I would definately not call the forum "FLUFF" however there does seem to be an awful lot of "Snap, Crackel, & Pop" on the forum, tempered on occation with some "Puff" from the softer sex, and modified slightly with the occational "Buff" which is the way one might be on those sleepless nights, when nothing puts you to sleep faster than getting on the old black box and bringing up topics like this that just can't help but put you to sleep. "FLUFF" nawwwwww![:D]

And what would life be without Fluff?

No cotton candy
No soft cushy chairs
No soft pillows to lay me head down on
No sweet talking politicians
No billowing clouds
No cuddly Teddy Bears for kids to hold on to

Life is fluff from what stuff is made from!

As to the contents of this forum, Dave Kelly has hit the hammer with nails already driven. I like the Forum as it keeps me motivated and allows me to share with others, from other walks of life but with common interests, the things I enjoy.

We need more fluff in the world

Thanks for another great post

Would you agree that because this topic doesn't directly relate to model railroading, it is fluff? But, because it relates to how this forum is used, it therefore is not fluff?

I wouldn't call a lot of the off-topic or light-hearted stuff "fluff" exactly. Weighty things generally get lost at the bottom of "fluff." Here though, most weighty topics still seem to somehow rise to the top.

If it's fluff, it's probably not necessarily a bad thing.

Very good question. Yes, there is "fluff." But sometimes the "fluff" topics are fun. Kind of a way to socialize with others in the hobby. Usually the "fluff" topics are obvious in the thread title. I often times bypass these, but sometimes I go there just to see what others think about non MRR stuff. Of course, I think "fluff" is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure there's folks that think that DCC is "fluff" as they are totally DC types. Others might think that the UP licensing thing is fluff, others think that it is of extreme importance to the hobby. I like that fact that there are topics that cover the entire spectrum of both this hobby and life. It's kind of like hanging out in one's living room after an operating session. Some hobby stuff, some fluff. It's all fun.
If you ain't having fun, you're not doing it right and if you are having fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.

I'm not sure if it's fluff, but lately I haven't found many topics that I have wanted to read, let alone respond to. It runs in spurts, so do I. Right now my layout is more interesting and therefor getting more of my attention. Imagine that.[swg]

DeSchane......Never afraid to stir the pot[:D]

Without doubt there is some "fluff" here. But the overwhelming majority of the information is valuable. A large percentage is not valuable to me right now, but clearly it has value to someone, so in my view it makes it more than fluff. I particulary like the search functions on this site, as so often, what was not important to me at the time of posting, becomes very important later when I get to a particular project. I feel that there is a great community spirit within this forum, that is promoted by the ability to stray a little from topic. I suppose off topic stuff is "fluff", but it is so easy to ignore and pass over that it does not concern me in the least.

Is this forum just fluff? What do you think? Why do you think so?

I think Joe Fugate's posts are wonderful and certainly not fluff. Others have provided great information here, also. I am glad that so many new people have a place to go to ask questions and get answers to those questions. However, a certain amount of activity here is fluff or fluff related and I guess it is your right to post fluff, if that's what puts starch in your shorts.

Is this post fluff? Yes and no! Did I say "Thou shalt not fluff"? No. Will this post cause flaming to appear? Only time will tell.
