Can I fix it? Yes, given the parts. My daughter and I were working on the track, because the Hogwarts was derailing. It was driving me nuts. Spent most of the day Sat and Sunday, filing rail joint and turnouts. My daughter said that I should throw it i the fire and paint a different engine to match. It had been stopping a slow speeds and needing a push start from the sky hook for a couple days. But finally it just stopped. I turned over and the problem was obvious. The center drive wheel had pooped out pushed against the linkageand gotten wedged. I was able to slide it back in, but it would not move. I took it apart. On the center drive wheel, the one that popped out, the plastic axel guide (or whatever you call it) had broken. I put it back together and set i on the track. Nothing. Just got hot. I'm thinking the derailing problem might have been that drive wheel wobbling.

Now back to fixing it. Yes. I probably can. I'll need to order some parts from Bachman. There are also some cosmetic problems though. Both grab rails have been broken through rough handling. There was some linkage damage from an early fall.

Then there is the question of adding DCC. Now that I've been inside (and I understand why people are cautious about pulling the linkage off) it no longer scares me. But I worry about investing $85 converting the Hogwarts to sound.

I'm going to contact Bachman about it anyway.

I spent the entire weekend ballasting my yard area! I have back ache and now realize one of the benefits of off layout staging yards that are not sceniced!

Aggro--Dang, man, those TREES! and the rest of the layout, too. I'm with Bo, you've got a great layout!

Dano--that's one BEAUTIFUL night-shot!
Right now the layout's down until I can get my hidden return loop un-hid and re-laid. After that's done (maybe by Tuesday) I can post some Sunday stuff. I ran a troop train as the last train on the route for a while--posted it on my web, but the pictures aren't that great. Oh well--I never SAID I was Ansel Adams, LOL!

What a great night shot! It looks like all the scene lighting is really coming from the streetlight. Excellent up close shot, too. [tup]

I wish I could do pictures like that. My hat's off to you. [bow]

Well, I got the bridge painted and installed which means for the first time in two weeks I was able to complete a lap on the outside main line. Used the airbru***o paint the final coat. Used enough paint to paint a wall.

The next picture is here because it is my first kitbash. I took a cheap bridge, cut it up with a Dremmel, made some cross struts with a piece of styrene plastice and created symetry where there was none.

With Hogwarts out of the picture we needed some functioning trains. So I got some Kadee #5 and outfitted some old time cars.

And last but not least, I killed the reason this whole MRR stuff got started for me:

I wish I could tell you, however, I have no idea! My approach to digital photography is to take a whole bunch of pictures and hope a few turnout. I use a two megapixel cannon elf. No flash, and I press a button that I believe is good for close up, maybe??? Also, today I put a GE reveal lightbulb in my shop light. Maybe someone that knows more about this can help me out.

scratch b rules, clean and vivid details. What type of building does the model follow? It doesn't appear to be a dispatcher's office, no telegraphy. Great detail even down to the trains.com poster (hee, hee) which reflects a good Yankee sense of humor. The pic. of your pet w/cap reminds me of some crusty old engineers back in the 1940's. Have a happy.

Railroading_Brit, the gas-electric peaked my curosity. Is it a kit-bashed Walthers, scratch-built or made by a model manufacturer in the U.K.? I built the Walthers G.E. in HO and bought an Aristo Craft in 'G' scale which needed a lot of cosmetic alterations. Frisco (U.S. R.R.) ran an awesome looking gas electric out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It sported a high arch roof, loaded with detail (exhaust stacks, huge blower fan, etc.). The air cooling intake vents were located in the center of the facing bulkhead (cab). Matt, I can't recall having seen a "Doodlebug" with front windscreens (windsheilds) across the entire front bulkhead (cab). Was this a common feature for some R.R. shops? Have a happy.

Passenger operations: A doodlebug ticks over in the platform next to the yard office, while an Erie-Built with commuter bilevels waits for the 'bug's crew to come back from the yard office and move it off to the refuelling track!

Need to finish in this shot: Backscene painting, "concrete" loading pad/platform in foreground, also paving between rails on this section and thin strip of concrete on the other side. Holding off further work until the room is reorganised though, when the layout will be in a semi-permanent location.
