Was that top of the page?  It's awfully tuff to tell on a phone!

I'll go fetch some treats just in case.

How about some of those vanilla pudding wafer treats for everybody? Smile, Wink & Grin

Chloe, please bring me an eight ounce steak and bowl of brocolli for my lunch.

When I came home last night we were having a pretty serious bit of rain for the first time in quite a while.

The sprinklers were running. It seems my rain sensor is not working. I will need to figure out what the problem is tomorrow.

Good Morning,

Well the predicted winter storm arrived last night. Woke up to about 5" of the stuff and a few more are to come today. Wait, I thought it was spring, silly me. Had to shovel and sweep the path out back and the spots for the ground feeders. Did that at 7am otherwise the chickadees will start scolding. Demanding little creatures but how can you resist something that cute. Flying versions of Pippa, the female Westie we had.

I called the snow clearing outfit to arrange for the driveway to be cleared as it is past the contract time. They will do it Friday. Normally I would just wait for it to melt but have to take wife to get her crown fitted Sat. morning.

Sure is a lot of bird traffic out there as is normal when there is a storm, mostly finches, house and gold.

Guess I better go top up the feeders.

Good cold windy morning, diners.  Bacon, eggs, and coffee, please.

I finally have a day with nothing planned.  I can get more layout time in!  Tomorrow we will start out for a short time in Texas.  It's time to visit the grandchildren there.

In the 1950s, my grandfather in Washington was dying, and my mother and I rode the City of Portland from Nebraska to Tacoma, Washington.  I don't remember this view, but I know my mother let me spend a lot of time in the dome car.

Along the Columbia River:

Have a good day.

Good morning

We got back from our Staycation Monday evening.  Why does it always seem you need an extra day to recoup, from what was supposed to be a relaxing getawayLaugh

There wasn't any places with ideal weather to travel South, and we're not too keen on the idea of an air bus with recycled air, so we had decided to hotel hop in some Northern towns.

Found some more Carhartt wear at Cabela's, and Judy got some new spring clothes and shoes at Albertville.  It was fun.

On the audio-video equipment thing.  Certainly do remember the Monster System days, when the sound quality improved drastically from Dolby to DTS.

She was obliged with a home theater built in the basement with a double arch like she had seen in a magazine.  That woman was spoiled rotten back thenLaugh

That's back when the TVs were still thick.  Blu-ray came out not too many years later, but didn't see any reason to change out a whole library of DVD's, as the sound quality improvement over DTS, didn't seem to be extreme enough to me.

Went out to get the mail one day and the lights were rattling on the front of the house as the reflection in the windows where pulsatingLaugh  Don't seem to appreciate loud music like that anymoreWhistling

Hold on, fetching some scenery.

Have a great hump day gentlemenSmile

Good Morning Diners.  Janie, coffee and a nice big cinnamon roll please.

Had a couple rounds of thunderstorms come through last night that brought hail with them.  The first round sounded small, like pea sized (Middle of the night.  I wasn't getting up to look.).  The second round was bigger.  That I got up for.  It was definitely bigger, but not golf ball size.  Plump Lima bean maybe? Laugh Not sure what the term is, but was glad I wasn't out in it!

First high school soccer game of the season was brutal yesterday evening, but not necessarily because of the score.  They lost 4-1, but that wasn't the rough part.  It was about 45 degrees with sustained winds in the low 20's mph with gusts above 40 mph.  Not fun.  Even though my daughter can't play yet as she is still recovering from knee surgery, my wife wanted to go to show our support.  She was regretting that after about 15 minutes.  So was I!

Here's hoping for a good Wednesday for everyone!

When I think of railroad scenery I usually envisage tall mountains and curving tracks, but the vast prairies have a certain beauty too. I remember as a youth taking the Canadian across Canada. The prairies were anything but boring. I remember herds of antelope racing through the fields beside the train and the endless beautiful blue horizons:

Cheers!!

I think it would be kind of neat to have at least several cars with different variations of the Atlantic name.  I also know you are wanting to put in a rail ferry and the Navigation part of the name may fit.

Great points gentlemen. I will absolutely be using these.

Thank you.

I sometimes envy those of you with great sound systems and your extensive knowledge of musicians, but it just isn't for me. I don't know why.

Well back in to 70s I had a descent sound system. Actually stopped listening to music around 1974.

In the car, I do not turn it on. In my room/office I have two pair of Onn speakers, the cheapest ones they make, but mor recently I don't even use those, I just pipe the audio to my hearing aids. Keeps the Prior from telling me to turn it down. Very tinny sound but who cares it is not moosick.

I bought these nifty custom decals on eBay for the fictitious Atlantic Railway And Navigation Company.

I was excited to have these, but then I realized I already have two similarly named "Atlantic" freight cars with arched lettering.

I am not sure if I should add a third "Atlantic Roadname" with a similar lettering style to my Fleet Of Nonsense.

Mike, the cable brand isn't Monster, can't remember what but can look it up and advise later. The cable contains 4 wires so the power is connected seperately for the woofer and tweeter. The speakers have 4 terminals. The speakers are Mirage, not Paradigm. Had a senior moment.  The cable is the thicknest of dryer cable. About $600 worth and it is buried in the wall so goes with the house.

Just back frim a quick grocery run.

Ordered another loco display case. Rapido has them and the price is great for a very nice case, only 40 bucks.

Time for something, not sure what,

No worries John.  I go through bouts periodically where I don't listen to much except the occasional comedy on Radio Classics.  You're good!

I'm sorry to hear that Ray.

I prefer CDs to mp3 sound. The speaker cable was $15/foot in 1995.

Doesn't surprise me on prefering CDs.  The music isn't nearly as compressed on CD as it is on mp3, which means you get cleaner, clearer sound.  $15/ft?  Monster cable?

I really appreciate the humorous (and not so humorous) conversation.  Making a pleasant diversion from w*rk.  Today is not a good day again.  It's shaping up to be a really bad downer of a week.  This sucks.  Lunch is about over now, so I gotta split.  Thanks again everyone.  I love the diner most when it's busy!

Good Morning,

John, that photo looks like the terrain where I live. Mind you 90 miles east and you are getting into the Shield, rock and spruce trees for the next 1000 miles.

We like to listen to music. I have Mirage M series speakers biwired to an Arcam amp with high end interconnects to an Arcam CD player. I prefer CDs to mp3 sound. The speaker cable was $15/foot in 1995. The sound is great, a very wide soundstage which is good when listening to opera. We don't listen at high volume. The speakers are a bipolar design and if you sit on the sofa between them the sound seems like it is behind you in the wall.

Well, off to get some birdseed as the storm will hit tonight and looks like at least 5" of the stuff.

No judgment from me.  I don't listen to much music either.  Being deaf doesn't make much sound good anymore.....  That said I often have great major works from the past running through my brain.... WhistlingSigh

I used to listen to appropriate "choochaphonic" music.

I searched this term in both Google Dictionary and Urban Dictionary. No match.

Please help...

Before I downsized and moved to Delaware, I used to listen to appropriate "choochaphonic" music, mostly with cable TV's music channels, either with old rock when running Transition Era equipment or Big Band when running 30s stuff.  I have a dual-era layout.

I still have a CD player in my car, original equipment.  I don't drive enough to have anything more, and creating a music library on my phone simply isn't worth the trouble.

Good morning, everyone.  Flo, please get me bacon, eggs, and coffee.  Leave the coffee pot at the table.

I will be the outlier in the diner today.  I don't listen to music.  (I see everyone's judgmental stares at me from every table in the diner.)

In the late 60s-early 70s, as a college student and then single graduate, I had a great sound system and enough record albums to sink a ship.

Somewhere along the way, I quit listening.  My car radio switched to talk radio, and my first apartment was not lonely when I had the TV on.  That has continued to today.

I have a TV on the wall in the train room that is on 18 hours a day.  It is background noise for me -- the program is often not important.  Mostly the channel is Turner Classic Movies.  If the TV is not on, I feel like something is missing in my life.  I'm sure there is a medical term for my condition.

My wife does play music sometimes, but not often.  On the rare occasion when she wants music, it is Christian music played on a small portable CD player.

I sometimes envy those of you with great sound systems and your extensive knowledge of musicians, but it just isn't for me.  I don't know why.

Oh well, now that everyone is bored with a personal story, for me it's back to work on the layout.  Today I'm starting a new set of tracks leading to a transmodal yard (still to be built).  My TV is on -- a rerun of a 1988 Matlock show.  I'm not watching, but the background noise is comforting.

I hope everyone has a great Tuesday, especially those diners who still have to get their money the hard way -- by working.  I get my money the easy way -- the investment company and the government put money in my bank account each month and I don't have to work for it.  I like this much better than the way I used to do it.

This month will be difficult for me with photos.  Where I live, this is about as scenic as we get:

none of it would fit in the Colorado I was buying.  The money hasn't really made it's way to the Colorado's stereo yet and boy do I ever miss it.

My little red colorado has lived for 15 years with the stock AM/FM radio and two speakers.

This was OK, but now the FM stations have all cut their broadcast power, and it is impossible to pick up a station outside of town.

Only my 1966 Mercury had an aftermarket system. That has been gone for 30+ years.

Good Morning Diners.  Zoe, coffee and a danish please.

Bad day at w*rk yesterday.  Could easily continue today.  Here's hoping it doesn't.

SeeYou190
I am looking at a pair of Klipsch speakers with built in Atmos channels. They are only about half the width, and that will allow for less congestion on that wall. The new 5.1 in the master bedroom really impresses me. It has 4 small 2-way Polk Audio speakers and a Polk Audio center speaker.

Music to my ears Kevin.  (No pun intended)  I've used Polk Audio speakers in vehicles before and they are great.  Klipsch are supposed to be fantastic as well, so I'm sure you would be happy with them.  I'm running Boston Acoustics speakers in a 5.1 setup in my living room and they are fabulous speakers.  Too bad the company closed shop.  Car audio is where I got my love for high quality sound systems.  Not just window rattling bass either (although a proper system is capable of that), but true well balanced systems.  When I sold my last truck I left the Alpine deck, polk audio & boston acoustics speakers, and kicker subwoofer in it knowing none of it would fit in the Colorado I was buying.  The money hasn't really made it's way to the Colorado's stereo yet and boy do I ever miss it.  I don't spend nearly as much time in my vehicle now as I used to, so it may never.  That's depressing.
