The diner is still in Kansas, so I guess we aren't flooded. Just having technical difficulties.
I'm also concerned about another poster from Florida...Brian..."Beiland" "RailandSail" ? He was building a multilevel layout in a shed.
Anybody have a way to find out if he's doing okay?

Absolutely!
Hardwoods we're always a tough backbreaking floor to install. They didnt look like much until the floor sander guys came in and finished them with the two coats of mopped on poly.
I always liked coming back to see how beautiful those floors turned out

Okay, good. If he's not in SW Florida, he's probably ok.
There's not many among us who can say they stayed home and weathered a Hurricane! After experiencing all that, he probably could use some humor before the electricity is restored.

Maple:
Back when GE was getting out of the tungsten wire business we had probably close to a hundred various benches and work tops all made from two-inch, solid rock maple. Some were twelve feet long! The company said we could take all we wanted and I wound up with maybe six or so. I made each of my sons a work bench,

And had a few left for nice benches and work tables around home.

BATMANEd, I can never see enough pics of your caboose. How long did it take to build? Is that paneling on the inside walls or individual boards?
Sorry I never got back to you on the interior, Brent. That is a Georgia Pacific beaded plywood panel. I looked into individual boards and they would have been 3/4" thick, a bit overkill plus being more than 5x the cost.

The outside was individual T&G boards but they were too prone to rotting so I replaced it with L-P "Smart Siding". The interior doors are individual boards as is the flooring.

Evenin' Folks!
Nice! Nice work Ed!!! I have one old workbench that was down cellar when I bought the house that is made of some very nice high quality Oak I believe.... It will stay down there when I leave the house in a few more years.
I spent a good part of today taking a walk with a very cute and fun lady my age. She loves to hike and so do I so our "dates" have been doing just that so far. I know a couple of you guys might enjoy the Text conversation we had later....
Pat, "9,000 steps so far."
Me, "Me too.... Interesting! Wonder how that happened?"
I am worried about my cousin and her husband who live in Fort Myers. Hoping they are still up North at the cottage they have here on Seneca Lake, but haven't talked to them this year.... I wonder if their Florida Property has survived. They live in one of those snobish "members only" neighborhoods down there in the winter.....
Catch you later.

OK folks....
I want to try something out on you folks and see what happens. I am the editor of out local NMRA Division newsltter and I have been asked to write a article for it based on a clinic I did many years ago on backdrops. So.....
Here are two photographs. One is from down cellar on the backdrop of my layout. The other is from a photo taken outside of the sky. Which is which?
Second one is sky.

I also hope he is OK. We'll certainly get word on it as soon as his power is up. Wonder how soon he'll be back at HD and what a zoo it will be for the next few weeks. Yikes - what a mess!

Hi folks,
Time to move the Diner. Who would like to do it, and where shall we go? I think we should probably avoid Florida.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
The Eye of the storm basically went over Kevin's house, So it may be a whie before he regains power. I hope all is ok , but it got nasty there it appears, lots of strom surge and high winds.

I had been experimenting on something similar a while back. I came across photo backgrounds for cheap. Most of these were something like 6 x 7 feet. I sliced one up into six foot strips by 71 inches.

I thought it looked pretty convincing. Cost was about a buck a foot

It is printed on a pretty durable material. I thought it was a little bold, color-wise so I toned it down with an overspray of light gray but never got around with putting any up.

I really have no suggestions. I will be happy with whatever state or province we end up in.

Judy had a tough week at work and hit the rack at about 7:30 tonight. She must be really tired as I've never seen her turn in that early.
She has tomorrow and Saturday off and has come up with something new to do every weekend since the beginning of Summer. Makes me wonder what she'll conjure up this weekend as well?

Maybe we should go up to Canada for the Fall. Before it gets too cold up there eh.
I don't think there's any Green Machines but I think BNSF runs around up there with CP & CN.
Who knows...could get our good friend CN Charlie back in action with us there

How about for October we post RR photos from anywhere with a Fall theme?
Re Ed's pic of the PC E8 above at Oscawanna...
The switch leads to track 6, which is the very north end of the Croton "West yard", which was freight. Most of it was auto parts for the GM assembly plant at Tarrytown.
Went in and out of that switch many times when working for Conrail in the 1980s. Oscawanna later became CP Osca for a while, then CP 36.
The E8 doesn't look all that bad, considering that others were worse!
That'll work Brent. Then ya get to see the leaves pop all over the place
I wouldn't be surprised if Charlie's leaves are popping in his neck of the woods up there already...
Hi Everyone,
Brunhilda, coffee with cream, please.
The leaves idea is interesting. I was thinking that since it's October, the fall foliage is gorgeous, what about railroads in New England and can include upstate New York Or wherever. Just a thought. On a personal note, I wish to thank everyone who contributed to our excursion into Kansas to learn about grain. It was all wonderful.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
I like the idea of a fall foliage tour! The colours are just starting to turn here in Ontario. We were in Sault St. Marie and Wawa last week and everything was still pretty green. We are going to do some driving tours in a couple of weeks. Hopefully the colours will be magnificent by then.
Jim, do you want to move the Diner? You did a great job getting us to Kansas in September!
Cheers!!
Fall foliage tour? There will be Mike Danneman photos galore!
Good morning Diners. Tea and toast please, Brunhilda.
It seems we are back up and running.
I hope Kevin is okay.
October theme. Anywhere or anything is fine by me. I like the idea of pictures of Fall/Autumn.
Rather busy at the moment. Try and call in later.

Stunning job on that floor! I know that was a lot of work restoring that diamond in the rough. One would have never known unless you told, there was two layers of inferior flooring burying that hidden treasure down below.
I agree, I couldn't tell which picture was the real sky from the one that Ray did. For those reasons I wouldn't guess.
Still waiting for sleepyhead to wake up so I know what I'm doing today
Kevin is missed, I wonder who's doing WPF. I would love to ante up but I know I could not be a good host as I'm going to be too busy this weekend
