There will likely be Americans on the BC roster who won't take kindly to mountain waters

I grew up at that swimming hole, it is just downstream from this lake where we would also swim and better yet play hockey till midnight when it froze over.

It's not that cold in the summer, however, a couple of my friends fell through the ice while playing hockey, it was a long walk home through the forest for them.Laugh

It would be hospitable to provide big water to the west for the boys from Vancouver!

Hmmmmmm... Sounds suspicious.Laugh

How about I just bring some along from the local swimming hole. Minus the dog hair of course.

Wouldn't worry about the dog hair, Brent.  It will wash downstream anyway.  Am concerned about the water temperature, though.  There will likely be Americans on the BC roster who won't take kindly to mountain waters - unless they're in their beer.  Laugh Laugh

The kid and I go to quite a few Canucks, Lions, and Whitecap games. BC Place holds 55000, small compared to some stadiums South of the border but it rocks nonetheless.

The kid gets tickets for free for all three teams most of the time as he has always been well connected. At the Canucks games we knew the previous owners of the team and always sat in their box, had a parking space three stalls from the elevator that took us right to the suite. All it took was a phone call saying we would like to come, talk about being spoiled.

Vancouver Canucks - Wikipedia

When Seattle is up playing the Whitecaps it is always the best time as half the fans are from Seattle.

Good morning from the Pacific Rim where it is cool and cloudy, perfect hiking weather.

It is very quiet here today with the last of the puppies gone. Time to start packing all the stuff away until next time. The wife only does a breeding every two or three years, it takes me that long to recover from the previous one.Laugh

I had my 15 year old daughter sit down and watch the original Top Gun with me last week.  She loved it!  We have yet to see the new one, but it's on our list.

I also sat down with my daughter and watched the first one as she was supposed to come with us, she really enjoyed it, however, she had more important things to take care of and didn't make it. That 36-year-old movie still stands up and still gives my 18" sub-woofers a workout.Laugh I love that Mustang Tom owns, talk about a hobby I can't afford. I better start a thread on how hard done by I am. A Mustang and Spitfire are two planes I would buy in a heartbeat. Chasing some of my friends around the sky in a Piper 181 was as close as I ever came to that kind of flying. It's kind of like watching a dog chasing a cat and they are both walking.Laugh At this stage of my life, I'll settle for MRR.Laugh

Now there's an idea who's time will never come: a game between the B.C. Lions and Detroit.  Having suffered long and hard since the days of Bobby Layne, Joe Schmidt, Jim Gibbons, Alex Karras, Night Train Lane, and Yale Lary, I'd put my dollars on the guys from Vancouver  (Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson did provide some relief along the way).  Forget the differences in the rules, that the guys from the West Coast would be bored, and that the Ford family would goober the arrangements somehow. Hey, we could have Brother Elias officiate and run the concession stands!

That would be a lot of fun, all those guys in the CFL play their hearts out as they are trying to get to the big bucks playing in the NFL. Just like junior hockey games can often be better than NHL games because of the effort put in by the players, the same holds true with football and our soccer team. It infuriates my son that we keep losing our best soccer players to the big money.

The wife just told me we are going somewhere to get something an hour and a half away.Indifferent Maybe I can get an hour on the guitar before we go.Whistling

All the best to all.

Good Morning Diners.  Flo, just hook the coffee pot up to me directly using an I/V please.

Sent my oldest off on a trip yesterday with her Spanish class.  We stayed up until about 11:30 Monday night, had to wake up at 3:00am to get her to the school on time, I managed to grab only a couple more hours of sleep later in the morning, then was up until I got my last text from her that they are all safe and sound and settled in at their destination at 1:15am today.  If I type something that makes no sense, blame it on sleep deprivation!

She has been living pretty high on the hog the last year.

Cute dog!  One of ours is a miniature pinscher that has heart disease and a collapsing trachea.  He's been a bit spoiled because of it as well.

Curious how she got involved with two sports teams from Michigan and one from Vancouver?  Not much geographic alignment there!

Another hot one here today.  Got a full slate of meetings at work, so at least I will be in air conditioning for most of the day.

Take care guys.

Kevin, I hope you can get a good night's sleep.  Last Christmas, my wife bought me an adjustable bed, with the foot end and the head end able to raise or lower.  It sure has helped me sleep better.  With your height, you probably need a specially-made bed.

Yeah, all that stuff hinges in the wrong spots for me.

Hopefully I will get some sleep tonight. I have been zombie-like all week.

Hi Brent, I'm glad to hear that Dee Ann(e?) is doing better. It sounds like she has a really good doctor.

Thanks, Dave, but Dee Annes not mine. LOL. I use a pseudonym for mine, I call her Meryl as she is Meryl Streep's doppelganger, though she is about fifteen years behind Meryl Streep in age so if you look at photos of Meryl Streep from about twenty years ago it is hard to tell them apart. She gets approached often by people asking if she is Meryl Streep, especially at the airport. Here is Meryl in Mama Mia, it could be my wife.

The wife lucked out as her neurologist specializes in sports medicine neurological injuries and works closely with the Canucks, Lions, and Whitecaps. She was coming to my wife for her Veterinary surgical expertise and they talked a lot about treating their patients so the wife went to her when she got hit with her neurological issues. She generally would never take on new patients.

Just can't get movin today.....So I won't.Laugh

Good morning from the West Coast.

It has been a while since I have dropped into the diner as it has been nuts around here. A belated thank you for the well wishes for my wife, she is doing better, and is mobile but not up to going on walks with the dogs. We had phoned the Neurologist who told her to come right into the office, once there she sent us right to the hospital and followed us over shortly after where she had a MRI and another type of specialized scan. She was then taken down to the O/R for a series of ultrasound-guided injections all over her body which has been repeated since over the last couple of weeks.

So I was on full puppy duty, the last two are going home today, a couple just flew in this morning to pick one up and will fly out this afternoon. They are here now and it takes a good two hours to do all the paperwork and get them on their way.

On top of everything else our crawlspace flooded as a pipe down the road got clogged, the city was here and had it fixed in under an hour which was good, but I have been drying the crawlspace out all week. Then I had major issues pop up with this Estate I am dealing with which took up a lot of time I did not have while dealing with the flood, taking the wife into Vancouver for her procedures, and looking after nine wild puppies. So here I sit too tired to move.Laugh

Mike, those black water sensors in RVs never work, it is easy to eyeball down the hole so I never worried about it either.

I really like eggs benny, however, I usually order Eggs Blackstone which has smoked salmon on it.Dinner

The kid and I managed to go see the new Top Gun movie on Saturday, it was really, really good. I needed the break.

I am enjoying the tour of Newfoundland, though I have not had time to look at the videos yet.

Dave, I am also really enjoying your plough build, it is like reading a really good magazine article that is really long.Laugh

Think I'll go make a big pigout lunch of Bacon & eggs that are covered in tomatoes, onions, and cheese. No bread, carbs bad. I am down a few pounds so I can go crazy.Laugh

All the best to all.

Brent

Charlie, I wanted to let you know my wife's latest bird battles.

She has fought the raccoons for months, and finally decided to do what you do by taking the food in each night.

However, last week she tried something someone suggested.  She bought some Slinky toys (the coiled toy) and hung them around the poles.  So far, the coons haven't found a way to climb the poles with the slinkys.

To be honest, I have a different solution, but she won't let me.

Good Morning,

Raining here and supposed to do so all day. Yesterday I went up on the roof and cleared some debris from the troughs. I also worked on the kitchen skylight that was leaking. So far so good. Glad I did that now. Our roof is fairly low and has a very slight pitch so getting up there is fairly easy even for someone like me that has vertigo.

John, Daisy is a cute dog. You never know with tumors. We had a female Westie, Pippa, who had bladder cancer but it went into remission for 4 years.  She was 16 1/2 when she passed quietly in her sleep.

It will be a quiet day here with all the rain. I have a new issue of Classic Trains to read. I polished off the July Model Railroader yesterday in a lawn chair on the patio. Most pleasant.

Hope Henry is making progress with his shoulder.

I wonder if Ken will ever come back.

Good morning, diners.  Chloe, I'll have bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.

It's another hot day outside -- a good day to work inside on the layout.  I'm beginning my tunnel construction on the new layout.  I had to unpack some double height container cars to make sure of clearances.

Kevin, I hope you can get a good night's sleep.  Last Christmas, my wife bought me an adjustable bed, with the foot end and the head end able to raise or lower.  It sure has helped me sleep better.  With your height, you probably need a specially-made bed.

Brent, I've always used canned food cans for weighting down the track.  I never thought about using the beer cans.  That's another good excuse to buy more beer when we go shopping later.

Dave, that's really interesting stuff you've posted about Newfoundland.  I had no idea they had such an interesting history.

Ed, that's a neat photo of the Union Station.  The mounted police out front must have been the early version of the TSA.

Lion, I thought you might have posted the dance photo because it might be a good meal for a lion.

Neat kiwi sculpture, Bear!

MisterBeasley, it's amazing how much entertainment an insect or small animal can be to a cat.  Years ago, we had a dog and a cat in the house.  One day when we came home, both of them were sitting in the basement, the cat on the ironing board and the dog on the floor, both staring up at the dryer vent.  We finally found out that a mouse had gotten into the vent.  The scratching noise kept both of the animals' attention for hours until I could get the vent cleaned out.

Mike, I'm glad to hear your camping trip went well.  You're lucky to have a nice camper to take out and enjoy.

Henry, we haven't heard from you in a while.  I hope your arm and shoulder continue to improve, even if it's in slow motion.  Check in to the diner if you get a chance.

Our Daisy the Dachshund seems to be slowing down a little.  It was a year ago we took her to the vet, and he told us she had a liver tumor and would die within days, or weeks at the most.  He even wondered if we wanted to leave her at the clinic to be put down.  We couldn't face that at the time, so we brought her home.  Here it is, a year later, and she continues to do well.  I think her time is getting closer, but we feel much better about her now.  She has been living pretty high on the hog the last year.

I hope everyone that I mentioned, and those that are reading I haven't mentioned, are doing well.

Well, Brother Lion, one of our ferocious predator cats took care of some cat business this morning.  Snowflake, who just turned 3, chased, captured, slew and ate her prey before breakfast.

Thanks, little girl.  That fly has been annoying us for days.

I see in the last video, Dave, that the Newfoundland Railway was again mentioned as one of the contributors to Newfoundland’s financial woes, exacerbated by the Great Depression. The depression was tough everywhere but Newfoundland appears have really struggled with all its fish in one basket.

I had to Google the significance of FlagDay, and see to my amazement that NZ has a flag day, though I’ve never heard of it before. Anyhow, to those in the US, have an enjoyable Flag Day.

This documentary that is about some of Newfoundland's history is about as far removed from railroading as is possible, but it is still very interesting. As always, click on the 'Watch on YouTube' icon in the lower left to see it:
