No, but rather you spend money because you want an SDL39!

Sure, but loaded up and optioned-up anything figures into the price/benefit ratio.
I like options, but I still get a bit chapped when I also have to buy the fancy floor mats....at a profit margin to the producer no doubt....just to get the leather seats because only one choice is offered.

It's actually after my era. I tried that once, and I got an engine I hardly ever run. I honestly prefer my old Geeps. Every train gets a caboose, too.
The Sd39 was intended to replace the RS-3 on low- traffic, lighter guage lines. I would rather have an RS unit any day, to be honest.
No problem with others enjoying this engine. If you model the Milwaukee after 1970, go for it.

I think you mean SDL39, not SD39 (which was a heavy duty drag freight or hump locomotive). Also, I think they were built to replace A1A-A1A RSC2's, of which the MILW had 22 units.
My understanding is the brass version is a lot more expensive.
Gosh, when I see an item like this it makes me wish I modeled Rapid City back in the 70's. I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB at that time and loved watching the CNW and MILW trains roll into town. CNW had three lines into Rapid with the Chadron line running at least two trains into town daily with the Pierre line running one in every other day. There line to Colony, WY also sported two trains daily.
The Milwuakie, well, their line from Sioux Falls sported one train into town every other day and it was not uncommon to see an SDL on one of their trains. I shoulda carried my camera all the time cause every time an SDL showed up, I was cameraless.......
Then there was the Rapid City and Black Hills Western.....
