1950 circa Lionel Locomotive Needs Repairing
Posted by reasearchhound on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 6:14 PM

My wife was talking to one of her cousins today and he mentioned he has a Lionel locomotive from around 1950 in need of repair and wondered if I could recommend a place to send it to. I couldn't help him but told him I'd ask about it. He lives outside of Pittsburg though that likely doesn't matter much. If any of you have a recommendation it would be greatly appreciated.

I think you would do better finding an answer by going to the Classic Trains section of the forums, icon at the top of this age.

Good luck,

There are far few places.   They are very simple machines. not hard to fix at all.  getting parts on the other hand.    Nicholas smith in Broommall PA is one place.   I dont know much else about them because I fix my own postwar lionel. That is one place though.

Is there a local 3 rail group that puts on shows or swap meets or has a permanent layout?  Try to find out where those folks take their trains.  Locally in the Milwaukee WI area Summerfelds is known for selling and repairing Lionel and I know they do a national business, but I'd have to think there are many options closer to where you are.  These days it is perhaps less likely to be a hobby shop than a basement where someone has a well equipped workbench and supply of parts.
