Good morning, diners.  Black coffee, please.

Dave, thanks for opening this month's diner.  You posted some neat pictures of track side buildings.

David, your ability to be such a good cook must have been learned at your grandmother's side.  I learned some cooking from my mother, but not the good stuff like you make.

Brent, pretty neat picture of the explosives shed.  It's amazing more people weren't killed when building the tunnels and rock cuts using dynamite in the 1800s.

JR, that Hobbiton Mill and dock looks like something from a Lord of the Rings movie.  I can't see my limited skills modeling something like that.

Rick, so sorry to hear about your dog.  It's amazing how attached we become to our dogs.

Ed, that Allegheny Ridge tower is a really neat structure!  I don't think we have anything like that around here.

TF, I think you can join some others with difficulty posting.  I use a laptop and I very seldom have any issues.  Not sure what the phone problems are.  It sounds like you and your wife had a good Christmas trip!

Charlie, I thought of you this morning as I went to church.  It was -10°F here, and I thought I was dying.  I had to remember you're 30° colder than us!  I don't think I'll be moving up closer to you at any time.

Jimmy, since this month's diner is a tour of trackside structure, have you printed any structures like that?  I'd love to see a photo or two!

WilmJunc, watching the NFL games today sounds like a good idea.  My Saints are playing the Panthers today -- maybe we can beat them.

It has been terribly hot here the last couple of weeks. We have also had (very unusual) thick fog and high humidity. This is not good at all. We are expected to get a break next week with temperatures only in the mid 70s, but back to the high 80s next weekend.

OK, Kevin, rub it in.  Here is what our morning looked like:

I decided to leave some of the backyard sidewalks unshoveled.  I made a path to the firewood, and that's about it.

For all of you whom I mentioned and everyone I didn't mention, have a good, safe, warm Sunday!

Good evening Diners.   Janie,  give everyone a piece of Christmas Cake and some Wensleydale Cheese on top.  Follow that with Yule Log and Cornish Blue Cheese.  Charge it to my account.

Stay Safe Everyone.

Keep it your side of 'the pond'.   It has rained every day  and night for nigh on six weeks.     Santa was not amused.

Good morning all:

It looks to be another cloudy day in the 40s here in MA.  Hopefully, I'll spend some time working on the layout and watching some NFL football today.

Rick, I'm sorry about the loss of what appears to be a nice Golden. I have always had Labs, but no matter the breed, it is so tough to lose them.

Good morning everyone. Two days in a row that I am up early... too early.

I am sore today. Not sure why, but I don't like it.

Sorry to hear the news about Dozer.

Good morning Diners.  A sunny day ahead.   A coffee please,  Brunhilda.  In fact leave the jug.  I'll hang around a little while.

Ricky.  Sorry to hear about  Dozer.   Before Dawn took bad we always had pets in the house  and is sad when they have to leave us.  Our thoughts & prayers to you and family.

A picture taken at Leamington Spa Station  2017.   The station opened in  1852 by the Great Western Railway (GWR).  The station remained in the hands of GWR until Nationalisation in 1948.   Note the GWR  ironwork supporting the seat.   The lamps for the lighting are GWR standard design.

Hey all.

Sorry to hear about Dozer, Ricky.  I lost three cats in a year, so I know the pain of losing a pet. They're like kids, they become part of the family.

I got my resin printer working after FIVE months of troubleshooting and replacing parts.  I've got about two dozen figures printed and painted. I've also got about half a dozen 1950s vehicles for the club layout.

I operated on a friends layout yesterday with a GP38, I forgot how smooth an atlas can run.

I got a SD80mac in Conrail and the loksound decoder this week. I also got lumber at Lowe's  this week(The price  of plywood!)

I'm still trying my luck on dating sites, but there's nothing happening there at all. Pretty much my only option when all your friends are married and flat out refuse to introduce you to someone. Gotta love the low self confidence and shyness I am cursed with.

Happy New Year!

I sure hope this one is better than the last but it isn't starting out well.

Ricky, so sorry to hear about Dozer. It is always tough to lose them. My wife and I are still not over losing Robbie last spring. Ed is right, you always remeber them. My Nazareth passed Dec.21/82 and I think of him often.

Well,  I did run the Hudson for a bit but it is back in the display case. I decided the mighty Northern deserved to replace the C Liner as power on the Inter City Limited. It will take over on tomorrow's run.

Nothing new here. Still very cold. Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning that frostbite can occur in minutes. Frozen ears are no fun.

I pulled out a kit to build that should keep me busy for quite a while. It is a Branchline heavyweight sleeper kit I picked up a few years ago from Kleins. They were clearing them out for $13 each so I bought 2.

Time for sleep,

CN Charlie

Unfortunately, like we knew it would, the cancer has cost me Dozer Doggie.

Hi Ricky,

Sorry for your loss.

It has been 22 years since our Shepherd/Beagle cross, Jake, passed away and we still talk about him. The only Beagle traits that he showed were floppy ears, and he was a bit smaller than a purebred Shepherd.

Now we get to play doggie grandparents when our son's Boston Terrier, Murphy, visits every so often. We love it when he is with us but we only want him for a couple of days at a time. We are not active enough to keep him entertained for longer than that.

My heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dozer Doggie, Ricky. I still reminisce over all my past four-legged friends.

Many of the PRR interlockings were electro-pneumatic operated thus relied on a good source of dry compressed air plus all the related reservoirs and piping. Here is AR (Allegheny Ridge) tower and the small brick structure in the foreground is the air compressor shed.

AR tower has been derelict for at least a dozen years. It was due for demolition last year but as far as I know it is still, barely, standing.

Good evening all.

Zoe - A round of RBF's for everyone. Thanks.

Ken - Good to see you pop in!

Fergie - Nice to see you popped in as well!

Doggie - Unfortunately, like we knew it would, the cancer has cost me Dozer Doggie. Crying My good buddie put up a valiant fight, but unfortunately, due to the aggressive nature of the tumor, he lost.

Dozer’s favorite toy. by Richard W, on Flickr

Strange without him here.

He would have turned 10 in Feb., we got him at just over 6 weeks old, in April 2012.

Layout room update - Happier news! A large portion of the benchwork was moved into place! Big Smile

Hopefully soon I can have enough done to begin laying track for limited ops while the layout gets fully built.

Hope all are well, best wishes to those not, and hope all enjoy the day!

Sad to see Garry passed, I never met him in person but he seemed like a great guy. When did pass?

His last post in the Diner was Nov 12th and it was announced on the 18th that he passed.  He had been in the hospital and went home on oxygen.

Thanks for starting out what looks to be an interesting theme for this month Dave.  Photo and 403 frustration started again reciently so I can't be much of a participant currently.

Happy New Year, diners!  I hope 2022 is a better year for most of us.

It's snowing hard right now.  By tonight we will have about 6 inches to go along with the -5° temperatures.

Welcome back to the diner, WilmJunc and Jimmy!  I hope you come back often in 2022.

New Years Day years ago meant a lot of food and college football games all day.  Now, with NIL, the transfer portal, and the playoff games, for me the luster of college football is about over.  I probably will watch no games today, and I really don't have any that I would look forward to seeing.  Either I have changed, or college football has changed, or some of both.

This is along the BNSF line through my town.  This is right next to the street, so it is easy to watch the coming and going of the junk.

I hope everyone has a good start to the new year.

I'm going back to watching the Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy TV!

Happy New Year All.

Foggy and mid 40's here. New Years day also brings cleaning of the office which is just about a room with a desk and a path to it right now. Waiting on the remnants of the storm that has wreaked havoc out west to go through here. Lots of rain coming but not the massive snowfall they got in the Sierras and Rockies. I have friends out in the Front Range area - hope they made it through ok.

Little layout progress at home. Still rearranging and getting ready to do the stud walls so I can insulate and seal. New Anderson windows are nearly done and look good. The old slider and windows were top shelf but they did leak air quite well. I'm glad we subbed it out as the crew did a great job and even tidied up so well we can't see where they were.

Dunedin Railroad signal shed

Wallhalla Gold Railroad train sheds

Hobbiton Mill and dock

Ok so the third has no railroad connection but you must admit it would make a great trackside structure.

All for now cleaning awaits me.     Ciao, J.R.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong but my photos don't post like they used to and I am following the instructions. Anyone have a clue?

Oh and welcome back Kevin.

That sounds delicious! I would have also eaten them before they were cool.

-Kevin

My Grandmother taught me all I know about baking  and cooking in general.  From when I was a lad of  four years of age she showed me how to bake bread and pastries.

Every Friday she would have a row of 12 breadcakes  in front of the fire.  There they would sit and rise as they warmed.  She would make a small breadcake 'just for me'.
"Can I have mine now, Grandma?"  when she took them away when ready.
"Now you know it has to cool,"  would be her reply.
A short while later.
"Has it cooled,  Grandma?"
"Not yet."
After few more requests  a small breadcake was placed before my eyes;  real butter soaking into the bread.

Happy days!!

As I am typing this, I have been asked to bake some more Cranberry & Sausage Rolls.    I guess  I shall be busy in the kitchen.  Yeah

Yesterday I baked some Cranberry and Sausage Rolls.   They 'disappeared'  faster than I could bake them.   My Grandmother would have been furious.  Eating hot pastry before it had  a chance to cool.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I was glad when 2020 ended, 2021 was also not good. It wasn't the unrestrained dumpster-fire that 2020 was, but still not a good year.

I really hope 2022 will be a good one.

Best wishes to all.

Here is an old structure. The source (Pinterest) doesn't identify where it is but there appears to be a shortage of flat land based on the look of the foundation:

Here is something a little more modern. Signal box maybe?

I'll bet you can't guess who's layout this is on:

Something is missing in this photo:

Cool building:

That's all for now.
