Hello everyone and Happy New Year!!
Once again it is time to move the Diner to a new location and a new theme. The December Diner was very festive! Thanks to everyone who contributed. We had lots of Christmas trains, both real and modelled. Special thanks to David for all the layout videos and to Ed for all the posters.
As is our custom, we include a list of fallen modelers who have made great contributions to the hobby and the forums:
This month we are going to feature track side structures that are not stations or freight sheds, although there won't be any complaints if a few of those are thrown in.

Here is an old structure. The source (Pinterest) doesn't identify where it is but there appears to be a shortage of flat land based on the look of the foundation:

I was glad when 2020 ended, 2021 was also not good. It wasn't the unrestrained dumpster-fire that 2020 was, but still not a good year.
I really hope 2022 will be a good one.

Yesterday I baked some Cranberry and Sausage Rolls. They 'disappeared' faster than I could bake them. My Grandmother would have been furious. Eating hot pastry before it had a chance to cool.

Foggy and mid 40's here. New Years day also brings cleaning of the office which is just about a room with a desk and a path to it right now. Waiting on the remnants of the storm that has wreaked havoc out west to go through here. Lots of rain coming but not the massive snowfall they got in the Sierras and Rockies. I have friends out in the Front Range area - hope they made it through ok.
Little layout progress at home. Still rearranging and getting ready to do the stud walls so I can insulate and seal. New Anderson windows are nearly done and look good. The old slider and windows were top shelf but they did leak air quite well. I'm glad we subbed it out as the crew did a great job and even tidied up so well we can't see where they were.
Ok so the third has no railroad connection but you must admit it would make a great trackside structure.

New Years Day years ago meant a lot of food and college football games all day. Now, with NIL, the transfer portal, and the playoff games, for me the luster of college football is about over. I probably will watch no games today, and I really don't have any that I would look forward to seeing. Either I have changed, or college football has changed, or some of both.
This is along the BNSF line through my town. This is right next to the street, so it is easy to watch the coming and going of the junk.
I hope everyone has a good start to the new year.
I'm going back to watching the Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy TV!

His last post in the Diner was Nov 12th and it was announced on the 18th that he passed. He had been in the hospital and went home on oxygen.

Doggie - Unfortunately, like we knew it would, the cancer has cost me Dozer Doggie. My good buddie put up a valiant fight, but unfortunately, due to the aggressive nature of the tumor, he lost.

He would have turned 10 in Feb., we got him at just over 6 weeks old, in April 2012.
Layout room update - Happier news! A large portion of the benchwork was moved into place!
Hopefully soon I can have enough done to begin laying track for limited ops while the layout gets fully built.

My heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dozer Doggie, Ricky. I still reminisce over all my past four-legged friends.
Many of the PRR interlockings were electro-pneumatic operated thus relied on a good source of dry compressed air plus all the related reservoirs and piping. Here is AR (Allegheny Ridge) tower and the small brick structure in the foreground is the air compressor shed.

AR tower has been derelict for at least a dozen years. It was due for demolition last year but as far as I know it is still, barely, standing.

Sorry for your loss.
It has been 22 years since our Shepherd/Beagle cross, Jake, passed away and we still talk about him. The only Beagle traits that he showed were floppy ears, and he was a bit smaller than a purebred Shepherd.
Now we get to play doggie grandparents when our son's Boston Terrier, Murphy, visits every so often. We love it when he is with us but we only want him for a couple of days at a time. We are not active enough to keep him entertained for longer than that.

Ricky, so sorry to hear about Dozer. It is always tough to lose them. My wife and I are still not over losing Robbie last spring. Ed is right, you always remeber them. My Nazareth passed Dec.21/82 and I think of him often.
Well, I did run the Hudson for a bit but it is back in the display case. I decided the mighty Northern deserved to replace the C Liner as power on the Inter City Limited. It will take over on tomorrow's run.
Nothing new here. Still very cold. Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning that frostbite can occur in minutes. Frozen ears are no fun.
I pulled out a kit to build that should keep me busy for quite a while. It is a Branchline heavyweight sleeper kit I picked up a few years ago from Kleins. They were clearing them out for $13 each so I bought 2.

Sorry to hear about Dozer, Ricky. I lost three cats in a year, so I know the pain of losing a pet. They're like kids, they become part of the family.
I got my resin printer working after FIVE months of troubleshooting and replacing parts. I've got about two dozen figures printed and painted. I've also got about half a dozen 1950s vehicles for the club layout.
I operated on a friends layout yesterday with a GP38, I forgot how smooth an atlas can run.
I got a SD80mac in Conrail and the loksound decoder this week. I also got lumber at Lowe's this week(The price of plywood!)
I'm still trying my luck on dating sites, but there's nothing happening there at all. Pretty much my only option when all your friends are married and flat out refuse to introduce you to someone. Gotta love the low self confidence and shyness I am cursed with.
