I am ten days from my second shot of Moderna. I have been living like a hermit for a year. I have been as careful as I could be, and this idiot just exposed me on purpose.

Yep, nothing like people not having much concern for others....  You and yours should be Ok, though.  Even if you should get the virus, unlikely as it would be, you would likely have a very mild case of it.  They are now saying it is rare for someone to come down with it two weeks after the first dose.  Hopefully your wife has also had the jab.

Hoping for the best possible outcome for you and yours....!

Good morning all. Chloe, rums all round, or other tipples of the Diners choice, please.

It’s the 25th of April here, and that means ANZAC Day. This is the commemoration of all those who have served in the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces, and as such Her-in-Doors and I were up earlier than normal to attend the local Dawn Parade at the Muruika Solders Cemetery, part of Ohinemutu Marae. Last year’s official ANZAC Day Commemorations were cancelled due to the Covid lockdown, so it was good to be able to attend once again. There was a pretty good attendance.

While this may be a generalisation, reading food labels, I tend to notice that US processed foods available here, seem to be heavy on added sugar. I known that sugar is regarded as a flavour enhancer, and a cheap additive to bulk up the food, but really!!?? I, personally reckon that extra sugar is more harmful than a lot of the unpronounceable additives!

Anyhow, in an example of irony, I’ll bid who to raise a glass of distilled sugar product to salute those who’ve served.

Bear, I'll raise a tot (or two) of Rum to the ANZAC forces. It did not get much worse than Gallipoi.

Kevin,

Congrats on the grandchild news, my Munchkin count is seven......

The oldest is in college, my youngest is 2.

Agreed, your neighbor is an ............

And I know you are very concerned about the virus, but my guess is you will be fine.

We are being careful here, the wife got her second shot back on the 11th, I get my second shot May 2nd.

But life is pretty normal around here and there is no real change in infection rates. We have been dining out, shopping, even went to one street festival in our town (it is a tourist town, we typically have one a week all summer). People here are being very respectful and careful.

Masks are required indoors in public places or in crowded outdoor settings, virtually everyone is compliant.

Wishing you the best with everything,

Sheldon

Good Afternoon,

A còol day here, doubt if it hit 50 F.

Robbie was at the vet yesterday for an ultrasound on his liver and a blood draw to check on a few other things. He isn't feeling well today and would only eat chicken/rice today, He even refused a dog treat so we know he isn't well. His bad leg seems to be bothering him too. Very worried here.

My wife is supposed to get a covid shot tomorrow but is worried about a side effect that is under reported by Pizer and that is Bell's Pallsy. With the way Robbie is I wouldn't be surprized if she cancels. Her anxiety is off the charts right now.

I still haven't adjusted the CVs on the new decoder. Can't get motivated. Robbie is sleeping on the sofa with me right now.

I didn't have lunch today. Odd for me. I guess an early supper is in order.

Good evening

ANZAC  sure looks like a meaningful event which I know that it is.  We should all Honor and Respect our people of service for everything that they do for us and those no longer with us.

Sounds like an early day Bear.  Getting up for the Parade at Dawn sounds like quite an event to be a part of every year.

The sugar thing yes.  Judy watches all that along with sodium, fats, cholesterol, and what ever else she watches because of her high blood pressure and plaque build-up on her left side.  No more reading labels as she already knows what to buy and not buy in the whole store.  Our meals have become a little more bland over here but we're getting better at substituting ingredients, erbs and spice for flavor and I guess we're healthier for it.

I have a problem with the sugar thing though. Night snacks to Oblivion.  I'm sure glad diabetes doesn't run in my family or I would be in big trouble.  I work on it and sometimes I'm good for quite a while.  But sometimes not so muchTongue Tied

I don't think I'll ever get too carried away because when I get too much sugar my joints in my arms feel like complete crap and I pay for it the next day.

Well I think that's enough of Healthcare Seminar 8-1-2 for tonightLaugh

You have a good evening Bear.  Oh wait a minute, I mean morning, ...That's right, you're starting Winter over there too.

PM Railfan
Just out of curiosity.... where does next month take us? Or did i miss that memo already?

Hi Douglas,

I believe that you are the first to ask the question. Do you have any suggestions?

IIRC, somebody suggested Newfoundland a few months ago (or am I imagining things?). The Newfoundland Railway was a narrow gauge railway that ran for 907 miles across the island from 1898 to 1988. There are some interesting stories related to the train, but there won't be the abundance of videos that David has provided us with over the past month in Scotland.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please speak up. You are not obligated to host the Diner if your location gets chosen.

Cheers!!

Dave

I was thinking that next month the Diner might take a ride on the Reading, in honor of our late friend Randy.

Glad to see Sheldon here.  The further south one goes, the less the mask compliance.  I am in VA and I would say it's 85%

My BIL was an antivaxer and now he is in the hospitat with covid and pneumonia.

The inside button that goes behind the bottom of the door handle has been missing for 8 months  The builder sent one of his guys, who we knowwell, he claimed the vaccine isn't FDA approved and he is not getting it.

I thought the world of Randy and I absolutely support a ride on the Reading.

Yes, the Reading and environs Yes

I have been enjoying a bunch of YouTube videos from the Bednar collection which covers all the Anthracite Roads. A few of those will be great to share.

It's that time of year again. The sign must be out at the top of the street "Drop Cats Off Here!"

This super friendly guy came around today —

 Feline-seven by Edmund, on Flickr

I had seen him around, just a glimpse here and there, over the past two weeks. Poor fella' was out in that nasty cold spell (the other night it was 23°F here) but we won't let him in the house until after he's been seen by the doc and had his disconnection notice.

 Feline-seven-a by Edmund, on Flickr

We're at the end of a cul-de-sac so the dumb humans must drive to the circle and open the car door. We were down to three cats, this guy will put us back up to seven. Never turned away a stray.

I hope Ken and the others are doing OK. Last time I talked to Ken he said he was having trouble with diverticulitis. I would hope that is treatable. He said he was going to stop by the Diner. If we don't hear anything by tomorrow I'll give him another call.

Still chilly and rainy here... off to the layout Big SmileYes

Cheers, Ed

I really hope that you are able to stay healthy. You had  your first dose of vaccine more than two weeks ago so the odds are that you are safe, but you are wise to take precautions.

No one can imagine how desperately I am ready to leave on a road trip. I will take every precaution I can to get out and see something. I sure hope the plans are not going to be messed up any further. I planned to end the trip on Memorial Day, now Memorial Day wll be the beginning.

I know you are very concerned about the virus, but my guess is you will be fine.  We are being careful here, the wife got her second shot back on the 11th, I get my second shot May 2nd.

I am sure hoping everything will be OK. I am sure I have been near carriers before, and our conversation was very brief. My wife and I had our first dose on the same day. Our second dose appointments are also synchronized.

I am in completely in favor of a ride on the Reading Railroad in a tribute to Randy.

The nursery called this morning and said they had another installation in North Cape Coral, and wanted to know if they could install my new Christmas Palms today, about a week early... HECK YEAH!

I bought two six foot tall triples.

The two guys worked extremely fast and had the trees installed in about an hour.

I am beginning to see signs on seasonal changes around the yard. The baby mangoes are on the tree, and the leaves are coming in on my Madagascar Deciduous Palm.

I put up about 20 more square feet of stone ledger panels today. Tomorrow I will be fitting in some small pieces.

Good Morning,

Ed, I have diverticulosis and had a flare up a few years ago which is diverticulitis. I wound up in hospital. It is scary when you have that bleeding. Anyway they did a colonoscopy and after a day and night I went home. You have to watch what you eat and keep 'regular'.  It can be serious if you have a tear. It is a life time condition. My mother had it and she lived to 97.

I wonder if my wife will get her shot tomorrow. Her appointment is for 9 am. It is in a large centre and she hates crowds. She is getting ready so that is a good sign.

Well time I got a little sleep.

Good morning

Rise and shine it's coffee time.

I got to sleep in today and woke up with a burst of ambition.  I'm grabbing my coffee and going right over to the table to start a new MR project before it fizzles.

I have a new strategy.  I laid out tools and materials on the table last night before I hit the rack.  Sometimes rounding up all the stuff to get something started is half the battle.

Good morning, diners.  Flo, please bring a full pot of coffee and leave it at the table.

There was lots of traffic on the Interstate.  Nothing like 80 mph bumper-to-bumper driving.  I won't stand any arguments from any of you -- I have the most beautiful and happy 5-month-old granddaughter in the history of the world.  I'm very glad she doesn't take after me.

Bear, I've read that the sugar was put into the food about the time everyone started demanding low-fat food.  Now health experts are warning that was a mistake.  The fat in the food was much healthier than the sugar.  I don't have to worry about it.  I eat enough bacon, sausage, and beef to consume enough fat for many people.  Strangely enough, I never gain weight.  I think it's genetics more than anything else.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Good morning .

I only had a few minutes available Firday morning to be on the computer. Frustating. I could not get into the MR forum. All other sites i accessed worked fine, but this one would not.

Friday was Shelley's birthday, and we left Friday afternoon to Nashville to celebrate. We had dinner at a very nice restaurant and stayed at a very good hotel.

I'll try to catch up with your posts.

Have a nice Sunday.

Monring, all just chekcing in, been busy with work and lawn mowing. Got the gas weedeater working again yesterday. It had a plugged up carb.

Congrats Kevin on coming grandchild.

I have not caught up on all the back posts, what was Randy's screen name?

Rick, as someone pointed out, if they stopped being friends because you stood up for something ( yourself) they I guess they were not really friends now were they?

Kevin, I would not worry too much about being exposed, if it was outside the less chance. I worked side by side with two coworkers that came down with it the days I was working with them. I never got it. I did isolate myself from the rest of the office for about a week each time.

I am not too concerned, I just don't want to be the guy that was so careful for more than a year just to get infected at home by an inconsiderate moron after having one shot.

It's not nasty, normal politics, but cats are a political issue here.  The problem is what to do with feral cats.  Both sides mean well.  One group wants to catch them and take them to shelters, and the other group wants to catch them, neuter them and release them.

Older feral cats typically don't make good pets.  Our Snowflake was a feral cat, but she was only a couple of months old when we got her so she's a fine, lovable little friend.  It took a while to get rid of all the parasites, but we don't let her out now (foxes) and she's fine.

Good Afternoon,

Well my wife went through with it and got the shot. She really struggled with the crowds but was talking to her psychologist while in line and he was able to help her. He really is a good fellow. She had to wait a half hour afterwards due to her wasp allergy. She got a severe head ache and they made her lie down with an ice pack and be checked by a paramedic before leaving.

We heard from the vet and Robbie has some kidney issues now besides the other stuff. Sad to say but his little body is giving out.

Ed,  when we had 2 Westies prowling the back yard we never saw a cat for 14 years. The female liked to lurk behind bushes and if a squirrel waan't in range she would just have a go at the male. She was really cute but could be ferocius. They would have gone for any cat. A Westie is small but very powerful. Like most terriers they have large teeth and powerful bite. I think little Pippa could have broken a cats leg or at least done serious damage.

A cool, cloudy day here. I have to collect a urine sample from Robbie. That is my task for the day. Poor little fellow sre isn't feeling well.

Thumbs UpThumbs Up  Was the headache due to nerves???  Glad she faced her fears and got vaccinated.

Very sad to hear about Randy!  He was a very knowlegable modeler and a great guy as well.  What happended to him?  Anyone know?

I'll be heading over to my sons house for dinner.  Porkchops he says!  A rather chilly, damp, and icky day here in the Finger Lakes Region today.  Will wait until tomorrow to run a 5k.  Been sluffing off a bit and need to get back on the stick!  Two Doctors appointments coming up this week (Gastroenterology [time for the old rotorouter exam again], and dermatologist as well).

Have a good one and stay safe out there!
