The Kiwiburger looks delicious! Thanks Bear! I think I'd have to attack that with a knife and fork, or maybe a chainsaw and a forklift!!
All of our restaurants are still restricted to take out only. They will be able to have people dine in starting next Tuesday. We will stick to take out but we still leave big tips as we have always done when dining in. The restaurant people work far too hard for long hours for not enough money so sharing our small assets is only fair.
Cheers!!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
gmpullmanKevin, you can scratch West Virginia off the list of states visited. The PRR "Panhandle" route we arrived in Pittsburgh on was named for the little jag of WV we passed through yesterday.
West Virginia has been shaded in.

That look like something I need to enjoy at some time. Wow... it looks delicious.

Today I took the protective covering off of the floor in the guest bedroom. The tile has been exposed for the first time in months.
Almost done.
The new display shelves look good, and they are perfectly sized for the display of prized model trains.
Tomorrow I will move everything out of the dining room into the guest bedroom, then I can finish the dining room walls and get another room done!

Living the dream.
Kevin,
The display shelves look great! When I built my office/workbench area years ago I incorporated a recessed area into the back wall for precisely the same purpose. Alas, I haven't finished it. Maybe some day.
Good morning all. The forecast for today is 9 degrees C. It is not. It is just on freezing.
Kevin. Great work done on the house.
Bear. That is some burger.
I shall run a few trains today and also make some more scenery.
Coffee time.

Good morning
I had a good time in St Cloud taping and mudding with my buddy Blaine in his brother's basement. It isn't like w**k working with him. The guy's a card and we're always laughing when we're together.
Years ago we always helped each other out on each others bigger projects, hours for hours. We always talked about starting an addition-remodeling business together called Clown Construction. We would sub out all the work so we didn't have to work anymore and come to the job site dressed like clowns for a couple hours for the kids to enjoy. You can charge an extra fee for that kind of service but we never did it. We don't work together too often anymore but when we do, periodically one of us yells out, Clown Construction!
The kitchen looks really nice Brent! I bet you're glad you finally have that beautiful Chow Pallas finished I am happy for you and I bet you're glad to be done with that on-going mess. Looks Great!
I'm happy to hear your doing better Dave. I wish you continued Improvement and hope that achilles tendon surgery goes well for you. You should look into that newer PRP treatment for your knees. It's a non-invasive alternative to surgery that worked very well for me. I can't say nothing but good about it. I've been battling terrible knee pain in my right surgical knee for years. After I had my PRP procedure I haven't had problems with pain anymore, except for when the weather changes abruptly. My mechanic is the one that told me about it as he had carpal tunnel and extreme pain in his wrist from twisting wrenches all his life. All I have to say is I'm glad he told me about it.
The display shelves look really nice Kevin. Great Job The weather man beat you to it this morning as he told us it's going to be a beautiful 75° in Florida today. Our high is -17 with a 30 below wind chill A Tropical Heatwave in the upper teens, lower 20s is predicted by next weekend Time to put a light flannel on and start enjoying outside again.
Thanks for the continued great job of hosting the Diner this month Ed Lots of pictures and videos to enjoy, Appreciated! The host with the most and I'm glad to be sitting on the end of my booth here
That sure looks like one heck of a tasty burger Bear! I'll take two as I've been known to be a Chowhound at times. Today is one of those days Thanks! .......P.S. Sure liked the Corsair and the guy on the donkey fixing it. That's my favorite plane of all times and are you sure that guy on the donkey wasn't from Pappy's Squadron?
I have to take Judy the w**k this morning and then I think I'm going to get back to my bridge project today.
With some talk of New Orleans and Mardi Gras, I had to post Frosty the Mardi Gras Snowman. Judy and I had fun making him some time ago.
We kept all our prized beads through the years. Not long after we made the Snowman we took our garbage bag of cheesy beads down to the Saint Paul, Saint Patrick's Day Parade. We threw them about to the people in the crowds. It's amazing how people go nuts over beads. We were treated like rock stars that day!
Have a great day gentlemen
TF
Good Morning All,
I'll have a regular and blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and a side of link sausage please Zoe. Trucks are all loaded and the last two leave today (West Palm starts Thursday). Got my Focus repaired and back on the road though I had to order a pair of rear tires for it as the previous broken sway bar link wiped them out which works not well on snow or wet. At least now I can take a breath.
Bear, that is the burger I remember in New Zealand! Admit it though it was a pic of the super deluxe version. We usually just got 1 egg, one slice of beet, no tomato, etc. Travis who is one of our drivers and the instigator of the trips to Oz and NZed is a committed carnivore and he would just take all the extra stuff off and eat just a hamburger and bun. He missed all the best stuff.
We are getting closer to a move I guess. Contracts are signed and we need to schedule a house inspection now. We only looked at the house the one time but I'm pretty sure it will go smoothly. Oddities include the house number is the same as our present one and both back up to playing fields. Additionally I grew up for the most part in Milford, Ct and the house is in New Milford. About 10 more minutes to w..k but at least 20 minutes closer to my oldest and his family. And it is what swmbo wants. The airport there is grass so I am thinking the Cessna won't be moving any time soon though this puts it 30 minutes away.
Good to see you improving Dave. i think the key to all this surgery stuff is to religiously do the rehab. Like Brent I kept active after my foot was crushed moving about in a "moon boot" and later after the MCL operation I did therapy on schedule and continued on my own long after the insurance quit.
Time to get in the back and start cleaning up the disaster from the last few days. Ciao, J.R.
Good Morning:
Here's a 1923 look at Horseshoe Curve where two fine ladies enjoy watching trains:
And, a few years later
Cheers, Ed
On the 1st video what was that building on the east end of Horseshoe Curve?
At 9:00 pm they were still showing reruns of old Nascar races, so I went to bed and missed the race. Fortunately I DVR's it.
My nephew in law has an instagram account ending in a number. Someone is using the same name a a number a few digits lower and using his cover photo as theirs and following his friends. Creepy

Mornin' Folks!
Little white thingies starting fall out of the sky here in the Finger Lakes Region! Weather guessers are saying we could get a little over a foot or so of "partly cloudy" in the next 24 hours (somewhere between 8 and 15"). I just got my ears lowered this morning. Barber says he looked it up and it was before Thanksgiving when I had it done last. My family and my Lady Friend were beginning to just shake their heads in disgust....
Gotta make an appointment to get my hearing aids adjusted again and cleaned. Hearing way too much distorted highs at the moment. Makes it hard to understand people who are moving their lips and I hear distortion....
Hope everyone can get out do some snowshoeing or something ike that. My 76 year old Lady Friend asked me last week if I had snowshoes.... She though that might be something fun we could do. RIGHT!!!!! I got rid of my old cross country skis a couple years back. hadn't used them in 20 years or so anyway.... Had no idea I might start dating a lady like the one I am dating now... LOL
Stay safe and warm out there, my friends!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Morning all from the soggy West Coast where two days of snow is getting washed away by rain.
We walked for hours with the dogs in the snow yesterday through the forest. The silence was deafening, pure heaven. I don't know how you people live armpit to armpit in suburbia but I could not go back to that, ever. We were starving when we got back and the boss made an incredible dinner.
My sister had a new knee a few weeks back after suffering longer than she should have. She kept putting it off as she was freaking out about the surgery and worried about the outcome. Right from the get-go out of the hospital she was motoring and lost the cane 5 days after the surgery. She feels so good being pain-free she is going ahead with the other knee. Another benefit of the new knee is she has returned to being much more active and is dropping the blubber like crazy.
I have had so many repair jobs done on so many broken and ripped things I don't even think about going in for the fix. Being able to return to plummeting down mountains at warp speed made me go right in to get things fixed. I remember being in rehab and the therapist said "see you next week", and the guy next to me asked why I only had to come in once a week and he had to come in three times a week. The therapist said to the guy, "because Brent does what we tell him to do at home and is making great progress, you obviously only workout when you come here". The therapist was quite frustrated with the guy.
TF, love the snowman. Thanks for the compliment on the kitchen, however, I am ripping up floors now. I have been hobbled on that front with both kids doing University from home as I need to be quiet with them doing online classes and labs where they participate and they have exams as well.
My son wrote for one of the big sports networks covering the Vancouver Canucks for a while last year. He had to quit as he already had two other jobs as well as full-time University. He was doing work for the UN/Canadian Government on the covid crises and could not even consider dropping that. They had even given him a staff of three to help once school started again just so he would stay on. Anyway, the sports network did the end of year audit and the kids articles were in the top three repeat reads and now they are begging him to come back and write for them again. He gets paid by how many reads his articles get and does very well. He may go back and write once a week (instead of daily) once he graduates.
Ray, snowshoeing is okay as I find it is just like hiking and I have done cross country skiing as well but find myself trying to rip on the down slopes as speed is my thing. That never ended well on cross country skis. Both are a really good workout though. A good day of outdoor activity and the adrenalin rush usually carries on after the sun goes down.
Best get at it.
Brent
"All of the world's problems are the result of the difference between how we think and how the world works."
Good morning, diners. Bacon, eggs, and lots of black coffee. I've had the same breakfast for years, and I never get tired of it.
Ray, you can have the white stuff. I'm sick of it here. I have never used cross country skis. It always looked like something I would like to try, but we went downhill skiing.
Henry, I hope your nephew can avoid the issues with Instagram. My daughter had her identity stolen 20 years ago, and she still has issues with it.
Ed, thanks for the neat Horseshoe Curve videos. I found it strange that the women would not wave at the train. When I stand watching trains, I still do what I did when I was five-years-old. I wave.
JR, I'm with your friend Travis. Bear, just give me the bun and the meat. The rest of the stuff can be discarded. JR, good luck with the house -- hope the inspection comes back with no issues.
TF, that snowman is great! I know your partner is from New Orleans like us -- they are having some broken trees this morning with the ice. In all the years we were there, it got icy one time. You wouldn't believe the car accidents. The TV stations tried to warn people to slow down, don't slam on your brakes, don't turn sharp corners, etc. It didn't matter. I know this would not be a time to live there -- Mardi Gras canceled? They can't do that! The most fun time of the year is just not being held.
NorthBrit David, it sounds like you are as tired of winter as we are. I think something you are suffering through is that your government is able to stop a lot of activity that we still carry on here. In my part of the country, restaurants, stores, etc., never really closed. As long as you followed rules, you could still go to places like that. About the only place that absolutely closed here was the movie theater. You must be tired of it.
Dave, continued wishes for your recovery. I'm glad the medicine is wearing off.
Kevin, I really like your display shelves. I like this forum so that I can get ideas for things I want. Those shelves are something I will work on for my layout room.
Brent, my wife also had knew surgery, she had both knees done at the same time. We were prepared for a long recovery, but within several days she was walking with help. She said it was the best thing she had done -- including marrying me.
Everyone including those I didn't name, I hope your day goes well.
Our state's Two Rivers State Park has some lodging you can rent in the UP cabooses, done up with bathrooms, beds, kitchens, etc.

I'm glad you liked the Snowman Brent, John We sure had fun making him that one time. Judy made me promise as soon as it starts to thaw outside that we make another one in a different theme. That gal never grew up, she always wants to make a snowman when the weather conditions are right
You ought to be proud of your kids Brent as I know you are. Loved the Spitfire climbing
I didn't know New Orleans got part of the ice storm too John. I knew Texas did as I seen the horrific crash on the news this morning. That was a shame
It would be fun to stay in that yellow caboose. I know without asking my better half, she would be into something like that.
I can't believe it's a half hour till Noon already after getting up at 5 this morning. Off to the modeling table Batman
Hi John. I am cheesed off with the weather. A few weeks of rain, then snow. Temperature below zero. Television presenters telling us to 'Stay at home & save the NHS,' whilst they go 'swanning of' to Antigua or Barbados etc. I could go on and on. One law for one. Those setting the laws doing the opposite.
Put the kettle on. A cup of tea is the order (by me).
After I have made the tea --
Salmon & Prawn Pie with Garlic Butter plus Sides.
Stay Safe Everyone.
NorthBritAfter I have made the tea -- Salmon & Prawn Pie with Garlic Butter plus Sides.
David, you should be happy you live far away from me. Everyday you mention what you're eating, and everyday, if I lived anywhere near you, I would be stopping by about supper time for a visit.
Salmon and prawn pie! I'd probably eat three or four helpings of that.
John Even if you lived next door, technically (Government Rule not family etc.) you wouldn't be allowed to visit. You would have to 'sneak in by the back door'. Don't say anything. I'll put a couple of plates of pie on your doorstep.
York1Brent, my wife also had knew surgery, she had both knees done at the same time.
John, the surgeon suggested my sister have both done at the same time but she was so chicken about getting the one done two would have been out of the question. Now she is really regretting not having both done at the same time.
TF, that spitfire pic was just taken last week. If I was a doe-dillionaire I would buy a spitfire in a heartbeat though I probably would kill myself doing crazy stuff. My flying instructor was a flying instructor in the Canadian Airforce and sometimes we would meet up with another instructor and his student and chase each other around the sky pretending to dogfight. I could get a little competitive and my instructor would reach over and tap on the airspeed indicator glass that would be indicating we were well up into the yellow approaching the red.
JR, Why won't you move the Cessna to a grass strip? We use to drop into some places that seemed not fit to walk on never mind land a plane. I like those communities where you can taxi your plane right up to the house.
Ed, was it you that put new trucks on the Rapido super continental line cars? If so did they help? I have spent a lot of time on my 13 and have all but one, maybe two running perfectly now. I think I will order some replacements from Rapido for those two as I hear they are a big improvement. If I get the ones wired for track power, do I need to put a resistor in line with the old lightbar? Also, does the switch still work so I can turn the lights off?
No work getting done today on the house so it is off to the trainroom, how will I survive.
BigDaddyOn the 1st video what was that building on the east end of Horseshoe Curve?
Good eye, Henry!
That was Kittanning Point Station. There was a rather elaborate coaling and watering operation here. I can only presume the depot was used for employees and sightseers'. The only remaining structure there is the "Watch Box" stone structure at the heel of the Curve itself.
Kittanning Point_PRR by Edmund, on Flickr
I have several references on the location and I'll try to find more information. There was at least one and possibly two short branch lines that came off the Curve near here. I seem to recall that in the early 1900s the outer track was dedicated soley to maintenance work. You can see two track men pushing a hand cart on that outer track in the video.
There was a freight station there, too:

Good Afternoon,
Still have the extreme cold warnings.
Brent, that photo looks like the Countess of Dufferin being delivered in Winnipeg, the first CP loco in western Canada. It is now in a museum in Winnipeg
Nothing new here. I'm still in exile in the basement, my wife is in her bedroom.
I was looking at a doodlebug on ebay but decided I didn't really need it. I guess I'm bored but in some ways I'm not looking forward to spring mainly due to my wife's anxieties. She is afraid we will get covid outside. I was hoping to get the vaccine by then but with supply delays I'll be lucky to get it by May.
Time for tea.
CN Charlie
Good evening
I did experiments for the trim on my bridges today. I screwed around for hours with no results good enough to post I think I learned some things about styrene solvent and finish contaminants in the area sucked into the adhesion field I think what I was doing may have looked good if I can figure out a way to get it to work. Well there's always tomorrow.
Outlaw boredom is going to set in here pretty quick too Charlie, after my two getaways.
By the way, Thanks for all the extreme fridged air you've been sending down my way You are quite the generous individual, always willing to share that Canadian Arcticness with me
That's too bad about your wife having anxiety like that. Judy gets like that sometimes too and I have to use my words to calm her down.
I'm sure you already told her but we have better odds winning the lottery than catching the covid outside. Unless the powers that be is trying some kind of crop dusting effort with those high flying planes to control the population problem, ...Kidding
You might not want to tell her yet but if she's still afraid to go outside in the spring, you could let her know about the air exchanger on the HVAC system. And the 6-inch vent that lets air into the house to equalize the negative air pressure caused by exhaust fans in your home all year anyway. That could be convincing enough incentive to get her outside to enjoy the nice weather when it finally gets here
Time for a spot of tea myself The kind soaked with the barley and hops
7:30 late dinner over over at David's house across the pond. Salmon and scallop stew I'm in! We'll have that good Scotsman Scotty from the Starship Enterprise Beam us over
Brent, We have the plane in Danbury as it is leased back to the flight school for training use so we likely couldn't move it anyway. I have nothing against grass fields but the person who owns it is despicable and I'd just as soon not contribute to his coffers.
Charlie, I don't think I'd follow TFs' advice. Sounds like you have enough to deal with already. When your wife comes back to earth you could suggest therapy but I doubt she would be open to that without accepting that she has the anxiety in the first place. Been there and it's a difficult situation with lots of risk. J.R.

Oh come on now JR. With all due respect presented here, I would have a hard time believing there's a person on Earth that doesn't have covid anxiety. I turn my head, close my eyes and hold my breath when I walk by someone at the grocery store for crying out loud
All in Good Humor my friend, ...All in good humor And I think that's what keeps us all going
I certainly wish you a smooth move when you find that new place you've been looking for. A new place to enjoy for the first time for you and your wife sure sounds exciting

Thanks Ed. I asked because the B&O had a hotel at Relay MD just next to the Thomas Viaduct

As crazy as you sound sometimes, (and that was a compliment from me, if you did not take it that way)... I hope you never find out you have a little more money than you thaught you did Brent. Sometimes I think you could, after a few of those real estate deals of yours. If you do, Don't buy a Spitfire!, ... We would like to keep you around here for a while
I hope the best for your sister with her knee surgeries I have gotten somewhat numb to knee surgerys since I had six done in my lifetime on my right knee. I toasted my ACL really bad once. The seventh surgery was not a consideration more recently as I chose a PRP procedure.
You need not fret you didn't get any work done today Brent. There's always tomorrow. Off to the layout Batman was a much better idea

Post Hog!
I hope Garry makes it home safely too MLC. I've always liked Garry!
The one nice thing since I downsized living in a condo now, is I don't have to shovel snow, mow the lawn or paint the trim anymore. But I have a long hallway carting the groceries in that sucks.
Sometimes I would, in a heartbeat, shovel snow in trade, to have that extra room to go to anymore. For a while it was nice to just come home with nothing to do and plop on the couch. Since the cold and the covid, I've been doing a lot of popping lately and believe it or not, would much rather be shoveling snow.
Sometimes I think I gave up my bad blessings without thinking I forgot about the good ones that came with them somewhere else
It's kinda weird how it snows when it's so sub-zero cold out at the same time. Usually that is not the case. I guess we are fed some rare ones this year.
Careful on that ice under the snow removing snow from the driveway MLC. I cracked ribs that way one time.
Well, I hope you don't get called into work tonight either
A Frosty Eveing Diners!
Flo, give the gang and I a and a slices of from my wife's cake. All so give Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.
Nasty Day at Work with Jerry the Weather was awfull and Jerry was driving me nuts! Kept asking me "Do you think I am making less mistakes?" Finally I broke down and told him "Jerry, you are making more mistakes now than when you first statred." I was kind as I could be, but I told him the truth.
He then asked "Do you think they want to replaces me?" Here I out right lied. Told him "Jerry, if they wanted to get rid of you, they would have all ready." All of us woud be doing the Snoopy Happy Dances when he is gone. He causes all of us a lot more work fixing his mistakes!
Ed Sue thanks you for her wishes. I hope to do something special for her this weekend.
Closed the store at 4:45 PM. Roads where nasty with a lot of snow. Luckly nothing had melted so I hit no ice.
Dirk Pip our American Eskimo and my wife. Wife wanted to put a towel on his back so when I walked him tonight for his poop so he would not get wet. Told me "He hates the snow!!" Yea, Right! Every snow drift he got to he buried his nose and eyes in it!
If Tuesday is anything like today, I am taking the day off.
Later Ken and Dirk say's "Me loves the snow drifts daddy, woof, woof!"
