That 4-8-8-4 was so huge that day

I had very few pictures I got to fit in the frame

Here's a good one though

You're better off to meet Bigfoot indoors then to meet him down by the tracks at dusk

Or better worse up in the woods closer to the Canadian Wilderness would be bad

The train song I heard first though was Night Train to Memphis

I'm partial to Rainy Night In Georgia by Brook Benton, closely followed by Roger Miller's King Of The Road.

Further to my concerns about having Covid-19, I think my doctor has figured out what is causing the congestion in my chest. He believes that it is related to one of the medications that I am taking. The medication is called Candesartan and it is used to control blood pressure. It has been around for years, and one of the known side effects is chest congestion and shortness of breath. My symptoms match the side effect profile perfectly. He has advised me to stop taking it, monitor my blood pressure (which is currently very good) and check back with him in three weeks.

What is a bit annoying is that I was on a different blood pressure medication called Olmesartan up until last January but there was a shortage so the pharmacy substituted the Candesartan. Olmesartan is a more modern version of Candesartan and doesn't have the side effects. For whatever reason, the pharmacy decided to keep me on the older medication instead of switching me back once the newer med became available again.Bang Head

There is actually a silver lining to this particular cloud. The doctor is hopeful that I won't have to take blood pressure medication at all since I am already on a very low dose. We will know in about three weeks. I was under a lot of stress at work when I had to start taking blood pressure meds years ago. I have very little stress these days so here's hoping.

I also have to give my doctor credit for his dedication to his patients. He is supposed to be on vacation until January 5th. I sent him an email late Monday night, Dec. 28th, expecting him to get back to me after the 5th. He called me at 9:30 am on Tuesday, Dec. 29th, from his home! Apparently he still makes 'house calls'Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughThumbs Up

Cheers!!

Remember train shows...

I have been going through all my photographs, and I found this one.

This is my haul home from the last train show I went to in Atlanta, Georgia.

I cannot wait for train shows again.

What about January ?   Where will the Diner visit ?  ... I think I heard an origanal idea suggested. Couple the Diner to a famous Name Train and post pictures along the route.  Who has thoughts and suggestions? Have a good day, everybody .

Hi Garry, this list on Wiki is - fairly comprehensive, if anyone a bit more familiar with USA Railroads than I am would like to have a go. Paul

The GF and I had lunch in a parlour car on the Cape Cod and Hyannis tourist railway.  We learned that car once served on the City of New Orleans, so I have a special attachment to that song and that train.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Louis Armstrong was a big part of New Orleans!  I have older family members that knew him

4014 traveled well out of Las Vegas Nevada where I have other family members as well

Isn't she a beautiful piece at work!

I'm beginning to think Louie Armstrong is the only artist who did not cover City of New OrleansWhistling

I really like Steve Goodman though because of course he wrote the perfect country song, but the train song I liked the most was Gordon Lightfoots' Canadian Railroad Trilogy. The train song I heard first though was Night Train to Memphis I think by Roy Acuff but that was long ago. I had a 45 and a toy record player and darn near wore both out.

Still packing up rolling stock and boxes of structure kits along with the other million items for the layout. I'll try to drop in for coffee tomorrow am. Cheers, J.R.

All good and a bit enjoyable

I may be extreme old school

My favorite New Orleans artist is Louis Armstrong and most everything he wrote

I love listening to covers of songs and I really like this cover for some reason.

OH YEAH!!!!!!!! Sang along with it a couple times!  Thanks!

When I'm working crew at the R&GV RR Museum, they let me end the day singin'.

"I'm a walking down the track, I got tears in my eyes. Tryin' to read a letter from my home.  If this train runs me right, I'll be home tomorrow night.  For I'm 500 miles from my home..... And I hate to hear that lonesome whistle blow...."

Makes sense to me Kevin as I've seen you been a busy guy with your house by your postsYes

I've always loved Gordon Lightfoot Brent!  Not familiar with that particular folk singer you just posted but does have a similarity.  I don't think I'm missing any of Godons music collection.  I cannot think of a better folk song guitarist and singer.

Brings back memories.  Woodenfrog Campground in the Kabatogama National Forest when I was young

Babe Hoffman a friend of mine used to go to his truck and pull out his guitar case with a 12-string acoustic guitar.  That man knew how to play it and sang in perfect time.  His music was beautiful

He would play and sing "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" of many songs he did.  His own version of a long guitar solo that he played in the middle of that song that I will always remember

Hi Brent, Yeah that is nice laid-back listening. Ray, are you able to advise me the Chord sequence in the run-down to "gone 500 miles when the day is done". That's the bit I never get right. I think he ends it on 'G'. I learned the song in 'C' and it possibly should be in 'G'. Maybe the selection of chords in 'C' don't lend themselves to it? I'd love to play this song, when the Folkclub eventually re-opens. Paul

Maybe Kevin has some extra time that could be appreciated and would be willing to host the Diner down in Florida for January??? Just a thought.  He's always been a rather good host with WPF.

I'll host the diner when I can do it right.

Way too busy with the house for the time being.

I'm not very familiar with Florida's Railroads which could make it rather interesting for me anyway.

New Orleans is good too as Judy was born and raised there.  Not very familiar with New Orleans Railroads either? Maybe a few multiple states of the South would be good

Good Afternoon,

A warm day here, about 20F.

I'm moving slow today as I pulled a muscle in my lower back yesterday. I did it putting on my socks in the morning. Guess I will have to start doing that sitting down rather than balancing on one leg like I usually do.

Think I figured out why the K5a was derailing. The last set of drivers was coming off and I think the weight of the train put just enough tension on to pull the drivers off cosidering how tight all 3 axles are on the curve. I really need 24" radius .

Very quiet day. My wife didn't sleep at all last night so she went back to bed at 8 a. m. Robbie is curled up beside me on the sofa downstairs. The TV is on as he likes it. I can see the bird feeders out the windows. Several house fnches have been here. There is enough light that I don't have any lights on even though it is cloudy. There is 15' of window which is unusual here for a basement. The house is mid-century modern.

Coffee time again. I'm drinking a blend called 454 horse power. It has a kick to it. I don't like thin namby, pamby coffee.

CN Charlie

Christmas Picture from my baby! I miss her so much!

She came to Orlando last Christmas for a get-together, but that was not happening this year.

Look at how cute this cat is.

Look at how angry this cat is. This was the cat we gave her for Christmas when she was 15.

Good morning from a dry West Coast might get a bit of snow later.

In 1971 I was at a Gordon Lightfoot concert with my sister and two guys came and sat next to me. My sister leaned over and said, "do you know who that is sitting next to you?" I was 14 at the time and she said, "That's Jack Nicholson and Art Garfunkle. I always wondered how those two ended up at a Gordon Lightfoot concert in Vancouver together. So last night Carnal Knowledge is on the tube when I walk into the bedroom and there are Jack and Art together on the screen. I went AH HA! I bet Carnel knowledge was filmed in Vancouver and that is how they ended up at the concert together. I went and checked and sure enough, it was filmed here in 1971. I always wondered about that as they were such different personalities, mystery solved.

I just got off the bike, what a sluggish ride, my body did not want to be there today. Will power always wins.

All the rest of our counter parts are coming at noon and being installed Friday and then the floor can go ahead. It will be nice to have the skins on finally and get all the crap back in the kitchen. Especially out of the trainroom.

As far as moving the diner goes we could Start in Montreal head South down the East Coast, across the U.S. Up the West Coast and across Canada back to Montreal by the end of the month. Every day a different State or Province with photos and RR info of said place contributed by all who wish to. The number of States and Provinces should ad up to about one a day depending on the route.

I do like the name train idea as well.

I did get a Rapido SW1200 for Christmas, but it is still in the box as I have been too busy to get it on the layout. Pics when I do.

All the best to all.

Brent

Thank you everyone for your comments on my posts.   I hope the films are enjoyed even if not to their taste.   I tried to  post film that is not normally shown generally.

I am not a 'Gricer'  (railway fanatic)  far from it.   I am interested in most forms of transport.  Cruise ships, road haulage, buses, trams, canal boats and model railways.
