Further to my concerns about having Covid-19, I think my doctor has figured out what is causing the congestion in my chest. He believes that it is related to one of the medications that I am taking. The medication is called Candesartan and it is used to control blood pressure. It has been around for years, and one of the known side effects is chest congestion and shortness of breath. My symptoms match the side effect profile perfectly. He has advised me to stop taking it, monitor my blood pressure (which is currently very good) and check back with him in three weeks.

What is a bit annoying is that I was on a different blood pressure medication called Olmesartan up until last January but there was a shortage so the pharmacy substituted the Candesartan. Olmesartan is a more modern version of Candesartan and doesn't have the side effects. For whatever reason, the pharmacy decided to keep me on the older medication instead of switching me back once the newer med became available again.Bang Head

There is actually a silver lining to this particular cloud. The doctor is hopeful that I won't have to take blood pressure medication at all since I am already on a very low dose. We will know in about three weeks. I was under a lot of stress at work when I had to start taking blood pressure meds years ago. I have very little stress these days so here's hoping.

I also have to give my doctor credit for his dedication to his patients. He is supposed to be on vacation until January 5th. I sent him an email late Monday night, Dec. 28th, expecting him to get back to me after the 5th. He called me at 9:30 am on Tuesday, Dec. 29th, from his home! Apparently he still makes 'house calls'Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughThumbs Up

Cheers!!

The train song I heard first though was Night Train to Memphis

I'm partial to Rainy Night In Georgia by Brook Benton, closely followed by Roger Miller's King Of The Road.

That 4-8-8-4 was so huge that day

I had very few pictures I got to fit in the frame

Here's a good one though

You're better off to meet Bigfoot indoors then to meet him down by the tracks at dusk

Or better worse up in the woods closer to the Canadian Wilderness would be bad

Lazers
this list on Wiki is - fairly comprehensive, if anyone a bit more familiar with USA Railroads than I am would like to have a go. Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for that list. I had no idea how many named trains there were.

Perhaps we could prepare for the January Diner by nominating some trains for the Diner to join. I'll suggest the 'City of New Orleans' (surprise, surprise). Then maybe we can follow Brent's suggestion to do a circumnavigation of North America as we follow the trains.

Cheers!!

Closely followed by Roger Miller's King Of The Road.

Or... You can enjoy King Of The Road with a thick Scottish accent!

Randy Travis's King of the Road is mine then

I met him at the Minnesota State Fair and had conversation

I gave him a cigarette because he didn't have one and that's that.  I think he was trying to quit when I met him.  He told me about his nude dance in the street when he was drunk one night

Here's a good Bridge in the Ozark Mountains, Christmas Day 2019

There is water up there I found.  It was a little dry at the time though

Things will get better Kevin and we just all have to make it so!

It's funny how many concert performers Judy and I met through the years

We met Chrissie Hynde at the Old Saint Paul Saints baseball stadium

She was all pissy and bummed out

She came to the front of the stage when no one was around and Judy and I talked to her

I told her no matter how sad you are, don't you realize how good you have things here

All these people came here because they love you and your bad day is one of my best days.  You need to take another look around and see what you have here.  Chrissie Hynde bent over the stage and gave Judy and me a hug

She wasn't as big of a star as she was back in the day but I think we made her see things aren't so bad

I told her as long as you do that song "Brass in Pocket" you will be fine.  She was going to do that one anyway but it made her smile

I went to Van's Warped Tour every year for most of my adult life. It stopped a few years ago, and I miss it badly.

I was always willing to buy the bands dinner after the show, and let them crash at my house if they wanted. I live about halfway between Tampa and Miami, so it was convenient.

I met many bands at Van's long before they were famous. I guess the (band that became the) most famous guys I ever took to Waffle House after the show were Fallout Boy. That was a lot of fun. Bands when they are new, young, broke, and hungry are a lot more fun than when they are old and famous.

They were all great people and we never had a problem.

I have a hundred stories about good times at the Warped Tour shows, but these are really face-to-face stories.

'King of the Road' is one of my all time favourite songs. I have been singing it in my head since I was a little kid. Thanks for the interesting versions.

Hi, Railroads seem to inspire music and songs, and these two things in any form, unite people around the world. Here is another list: Railroad songs. Again it is amazing just how many there are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_train_songs

Hi Maxman, Kevin and Dave, when I was a very young kid in the 60's, the line, "3rd Boxcar, Midnight Train" - used to inspire me to want to go and see America. It conjured-up all sorts of imagination, partly because Boxcar was not in the UK Railway language and it added to the mystery. I love the Double-bass.

From my Pete Seeger's 'Teach yourself' book, I learned 'John Henry', in C & G - no idea of the actual melody.

TF, you and your wife got a hug from my Queen, my Goddess of Desire. Even to this day, the way Chrissie sings (after the solo) "Don't get me wr-o-ng", makes me go weak at the knees!

I'd better go and assemble my Pikestuff Loading Dock - just arrived in the mail today. Paul

Thank you David. One more day and you get a reprieve from duty. Coffee with milk to go please Zoe. I am shocked that the Greatful Dead never covered King of the Road. I always enjoyed Roger Miller - a drummer made good.

22F this morning but it didn't feel near as cold as yesterday morning.

Good morning

I guess there's a little bit left.  Had too much coffee already this morning and I'm zinging like one of those Hostess cupcake zingers of the 70's and wish I had one right now.  I doubt if they would taste the same as I remember though.  None of that stuff ever does

Judy got called into work this morning.  She didn't have to go but her boss is her childhood friend from school.   Kendra was stressed out and overwhelmed so Judy went in to help her for a few hours out of the goodness of her heart.  That's just how Judy rolls

Nothing much going on today and I'm a bit concerned as I gave a call to my brother thanking him for my Challenger again.  It's not like him not to answer my call.  The Challenger sat unused for 9 years as the new improved batch was manufactured in 2012

It was a little glitchy at slow speeds but I ran the thing back and forth on a 6-foot test track so many days on end.  It's starting to creep like a dream now that I have loosened up the cogs

That's just it!  The worst thing you can do with a piece of equipment with moving Parts is not to run it

Challenger is happy now and so am I.  I'm going to begin laying my track this afternoon

I wish I had a few of those flat cars to bring out long rails to the end of the line with some railroad ties and that Tichy crane car.  Bringing supplies out to the end of the line to supply the track laying crew would make it more funnerLaugh

I don't think you would see the detail of the railroad spikes in N-Scale but maybe the MalletsLaugh

Oh Come On

Enough time passes and eventually we'll all have an immunity to this crap

Believe me you and I have already been exposed to it in small bits and pieces

That's a good thing to build your immunity as long as you don't get exposed to a large dose of the virus

Keep being careful like you always have been doing

Wash your hands and don't touch your face has been around for thousands of years since the beginning of time as no one has invented that lately.  It's just always been a good idea

If you live in shame and tell your mind something bad will happen it will.  If you live in Pride and tell your mind it is strong it will

This is the New Norm and a positive way of thinking repels it

Be careful and live your life as that's all anyone of us can do

Keep up the faith Kids!

Since we are still in England, but about to embark on a Musical Mystery Tour of America: in the mid - late 1950's, Skiffle caught on in the UK and possibly the most well known artist was Lonnie Donegan. I always like Cumberland Gap because it mentioned Middlesborough (Middlesbrough - Cleveland, North Yorkshire spelling)

and Rock Island Line was another firm favourite with the British public

Lonnie was admired by many British musicians, including the Beatles when they were total unknowns. Paul

Good Afternoon,

We got about 5" of the white stuff last night but at least it isn't very cokd, about 20F.

My back is slowly getting better. At least I can stand straight today Thank goodness for Robaxacet.

My wife ordered some goodies, tea and biscuits from Paris on the 24th and they arrived here today via UPS. The parcel was inspected by Customs too. That certainly is good service.

Not feeling motivated today, heck I rarely do lately. If the province meets its vacination schedule I should get mine by the end of March. My wife will be lucky to get it by July. She is 9 years younger and I'm in the over 70 priority group.

Wife didn't sleep again last night so she isn't up yet.

Coffee time again. I've been up since 8.
