I would like to see more metra models out there! I like the fact that athearn made the F59PHIs that metra just bought from amtrack. Most of them still wear the surfliner paint with a mig METRA on the side. One was turned into a CNW herritage unit! I would also like to see more F40s in the new paint and MP36s. Id pay good money for a model of the MILW road herritage unit!

I’ll second the SP ¾ Dome Lounge car but in HO scale.

I’m afraid the SP ¾ Dome car won’t happen in either N or HO, the SP built their own and because there were only 7 built I don’t think they will be manufactured.   

 

 

 

I'll 3rd the SP 3/4 dome.  Those were used on the Amtrak San Francisco Zephyr as well, a passenger train I am modeling.

 

You will most likely need to kitbash a ¾ dome lounge car if you really want one.  I’ve kitbashed four ¾ dome cars, two Athearn 72’ after I made the mistake of making the first two 85’.  85’ is just too long for a small layout especially when the rest of my passenger cars are 72’.

Tangent Scale Models needs to produce the Reading Class GHrx class mill gondolas assigned to tie loading service at Muncy, PA, and painted bright yellow with green lettering (Herald King offered the correct decals for this car).  The car is already available from Tangent (BSC 52' riveted gondola).  They were part of a larger group of "rebuilt by RDG" (not sure anything was really changed) CNJ gondolas purchased secondhand in 1968 or so, by the Reading, and at least 33 cars were later assigned for tie service to Muncy, PA and were painted in the bright yellow and green.  All 33 car numbers are actually listed in a .pdf document on the Reading Co. hysterical society website.  There are also photos of the surviving yellow car on either that or the Conrail hysterical society website.  So literally everything that Tangent needs to make the car is readily available information (or could be verified from the actual survivor), and it is a popular paint scheme, previously done by Athearn and others, that will most definitely sell.  I for one do not understand why Tangent Scale Models, despite repeated contacts about this particular car, has not chosen to produce it, but they must have a reason.  They sold for Athearn and Con Cor as foobie cars, and sold pretty well, and Tangent actually already has the correct car with both wood and steel floor options.

One would think the bright yellow car with green lettering would sell better than the black car with white speed lettering, especially since the black Class GHh car was completely eliminated from the roster a couple years prior to Conrail.

 Otherwise, I'd like to see a 52' or 65' welded BSC gondola.  There are several Reading classes of them numbering many hundreds if not thousands of cars, and it appears other railroads had very similar cars.  Some of the former Reading class GHy 52' welded side gondolas lasted in revenue service well into the 2000's, even receiving NS paint, as well as CR paint.  Others were popular mow service cars (due to rugged construction) and received CR mow grey paint.  That's just one class of cars with plenty of paint options besides the original green with yellow lettering and top chord.  There were several other classes.

People say this sort of thing, but...Athearn just asked a King's ransom for the SD90MAC-H, that had less than 70 units built.

Seems like locomotives fall into four groups: they built 3 and canceled production; they were never broadly popular and built less than 150; one railroad liked them and there were about 300; and widely popular and there's 3,000 of them.

Probably something like it exists already, but I would like a hobby level miter saw which can handle something thicker than what the Micromark Mini-Miter or the Hercules Cut Off or other knock-offs can do (which seems to be 1 inch or less for most - I'd like a 4 in thickness). Full size miters like my Delta, even with a fine blade...not a pretty sight with plastics (I tested with a junk gondola, kept my fingers far away). I like the idea of nice, right angled cuts, and dremel just wanders a bit too much in my hands for that (and we won't even mention "snap saws").

Speaking of nice angled cuts, the NWSL True-Sander was a good idea...on paper. Maybe it has been improved in over 15 years, but I had one (briefly), used it a few times until the sanding block wore nasty grooves in the verticle sanding surface = why wasn't this edge made with (hard metal - no scorable aluminum) or maybe very hard non-scorable plastic. Yes, you'd have to pay some more up front, but it wouldn't suck.

I'm hoping BLI will complete the Brass Hybrid PRR 6-4-4-6.  They were putting it on the back burner since they were having a lot of trouble making it work on anything below a 36"(?) radius.  I actually did some tests using my Bowser T-1 and gave them a few suggestions on how it could work without compromising the detail too much.  Haven't heard back from them on that, but they were kind enough to let me view a couple shots of their 3D model at the time to see if I had some ideas, so they do seem to be open to suggestions from the modelers.

What I'd like to see is a bit more variety of HO scale vehicles that would be era appropriate for the 70s. I know there are the Oxford models and a few others but the models they have are a only a few of the prototypes from that era. (I did find a Pacer but it was quite expensive.)

An EMD SW1001 would be nice. There’s one on Shapeways, but from what I’ve seen shapeways models still have a grain to them and the material ages poorly/is brittle.

The one at Nelson BC painted in old CPR colours never even formed part of the CPR stable.

Plus, they look just like a real Trainmaster so if you really want a baby one you can just buy  a Trainmaster and say it's just a baby.

Sheldon, You're exactly right. With so many versions of those engines I listed they could have done some of the other desirable engines (and cars). As much as those are popular there are other popular engines that could have been produced. How about a B&O President P-7d or e, N&W M or M-2 4-8-0, Pennsy G5s, E6s, A5s or 2-8-0's, 4-6-0's that would benefit folks with smaller layouts?

I'd really like to see engines with smoking whistles, smoking dynamos, moving bells, opening water latches, smoking diesel exhaust, moving cab figures, rotating fan blades, depleting coal loads, flickering fireboxes, steam release smoke, (PRR & NYC) water scoop tender water splash, operating power reverse, operating uncoupling levers/auto opening couplers, etc.

Rather than producing a drivetrain that will actually last.

BLI to do the PRR M1, M1a, and M1b in both pre-war and postwar configurations with either the four or six axle tenders, and of course, with or without trainphone antenna array. With diecast boilers like their K4s and L1s models. I'd not mind seeing them do a variant of the K4s with the 130p75 tender that 1361 and others had. I did one using a BLI locomotive and Sunset tender.

Love to see a PRR H21 hopper. The Pennsy had loads of them and though the Bowser model is alright, I'd love it if someone did a model with seperate grab irons, brake lines and all, in loads of different numbers. Pennsy modelers would by them by the case.

Walthers to rerun their 1953 Broadway Limited set, and even do the 1948 rendition with gold leaf lettering.

Why would you want the articulated lorries to make noise? Unless they were moving, they would just be idling. Maybe the air unloader would cycle every fifteen minutes or so, and the air clutch on the fan could engage every once in a while.

 Pretty much every first gen diesel of the Reading ahs been made by someone - all the F units, RS3s, AS16, GP7, Baldwin switchers, Alco switchers - so I can obtain enough locos.

I do wish someone would do more original scheme cabooses, with more than the single road number Proto 2000 made, so I don't have to renumber them all myself.

And Red Caboose used to have nice regular flatcar kits - the newer RTR release of them they haven't done in Reading. 

Maybe an I-10 that's not the old junk Bachmann one - Bowser doesn't make the chassis repalcement any more, and those weren't exactly the best runners either. I could probably fudge it a bit and have one or two in helper service alongside the T1's. Just have to watch the road numbers and not have any that were rebuilt into the T1s. 

 Could use a rerun of the N Scale Architect's Reading Tower in HO - I need more than one tower on my layout. A watchman shanty for manned crossings, so I don't have to scratchbuild such a thing. And a station other than the old kit for Quakertown, which is somewhat unique.
