Is it just me or is the magic fading a bit more every year of that excitement feeling that always used to separate a Friday or Saturday from the rest of the days? For some reason all the days are starting to feel the same any moreLaugh

Well....  Is yah retahhhhhed yet?  That usually cause's the syndrome I think!  For me, most everyday is now on a weekend.  By the time I sit down and eat my dinner (steak and butternut squash tonight) I will have completed my 5 miles for the day.  Don't like the running wearing a winter coat, but that is what will be going on for the next 4 or 5 months I guess.

Post Hog!

Nothing like this photo of 4014 on a Friday afternoon for your collection

Back in BlackStick out tongue

And the funny thing is I think those Square white things were on the fence and fit in the wheels perfectly at the time the photo was taken.  That's the only thing I can figure out with this photo because it wasn't planned that way as she was moving at a pretty good clipIndifferent

Told him to take my info out of his computer again.  he laughed and said, "I remember having this conversation with a few months back!" He told me he has once again taken my information out of their computer, but to let them know if GM puts it back in again!  I do like this dealership and if I was driving a car they sell would still be doing business there.  You gotta love technology!

My first wife died back in 1986. She gets at least three, sometimes five or more, pieces of mail each week. Some of it from the University of Cincinnati (?), which she never attended and several offering health screenings, retirement investment seminars and the like.

I never respond to these for fear that even that activity will spring-board into yet more mailings (like picking up the phone on a spam call — then they know they have a "hot" number). Once you're on somebody's database that information gets sold and distributed everywhere.

Somehow, there's a list out there that has me tagged as a veteran serviceman. I often get mail for offers to participate in programs or products aimed at military personnel. No idea how that happened. No sence trying to correct it as, I'm afraid it would open a Pandora's Box of yet more mailings, calls and eventually spam emails.

Let's have another look at those neat, Milwaukee Skytops!

Bridge Piers are interesting.

Yeah. It looks kinda like the original structure was a two-span bridge with a much deeper depth, maybe an undershot open truss, that was replaced with the four-span girder system. Interesting.

Afternoon folks!

Taking a few minutes to get warmed back up before I finish my 5k today.  Tis cold out there.  The high for the day is 39°F.  I ran the first half of the 5k wearing my winter coat....  Just did the Fall service on my car by myself as well.  yep!  Time to check the air pressure in the tires!  Such a lot needing to be done on the Tesla ya know!!  (LOL)  They were actually down a few lbs.  The car gave me an allert for one tire.  It was only 41lbs and they should be 45lbs cold.  All of them were down about the same.  They are now all where they should be.  I did get a wonderful ad from the Chevy Dealership where they would change the oil for only $19.99 (unless I wanted decent oil in it that is...).  I once again called the Manager at the dealership and explained to him my Tesla doesn't need an "oil change"!

Hope you are all having a good day and have a great "All Hallows Eve" tomorrow!

Good morning .

Ed .... Thanks for sharing the interesting video of River Rouge Plant .

John York1 ... The Henry Ford Museum is very interesting.

TF .... Glad you liked the photos.

Henry ..... The short video of the derailment looks scary for people on the highway.

Speaking of derailments, I recall one when GTW dropped a train from a bridge onto a Detroit freeway. It blocked all 8 lanes.

This photo shows GTW GP38's following a CV GP38. Bridge Piers are interesting. The photo was taken in the CV.

Good morning.

David, burger Friday sounds good.  I'll join you over here, but about five hours later than you.

This time of year, this is what dominates all the little towns in my area.  The grain elevators are full, waiting for the railroad's hopper cars.  The harvested grain is piled in huge hills, waiting to get into the elevators and bins.  Some of these piles will be around until spring.  It's a pretty impressive site, when you consider the size of the pile compared to the road grader in the picture.

I understand this is part of the Henry Ford museum in Michigan.  I've never been there, but it looks like a neat place to visit:

I hope everyone has a good day.  For those who are ill, I hope you have a restful peaceful day.

Good morning all.  I hope everyone is well.    I am still under the Doctor's orders to take things easy.

I put the new nameplates that (arrived yesterday)  on the respective locomotives

The signals that also arrived now means I can have the layout fully signalled.

It is 'burger Friday.'     Mushroom and goat's cheese with peashoots, salad and wedges is the dish tonight.  Sorry I cannot invite anyone round.  We are on lockdown.

Take Care everyone.

Talked to my brother tonight.  He don't call every week like I wish he would and I always enjoy our conversation when he does.

He says he is scrapping his Boise Cascade model built from scratch from satellite views.

I can understand that because the last time I was there I thought it looked great but he wasn't happy with it.

My brother is too much like me,  too much of a perfectionist from our marine sergeant dad.

I really wish he wasn't.

Greetings from the Southern Command. We came down to our Mississippi house to check on things and get away for a while. Drove in foggy mist from the tail end of the low pressure that dumped all the ice on Oklahoma and all the rain on us in KY.

It is supposed to be nice the rest of the time we are here .

Garry i liked the steel photos.

I want to go visit the U.P. one of these days and drive up to copper harbor just to say I did .

I notice US 41 goes from there to Miami FL. That would be a interesting trip.

I want to go to the Mackinac bridge as well. Someone invited me one year to the annual walk across, but I could not go.

Not much else to report.

Good Evening,

Hi TF, I've never posted pictures of Robbie or anything come to think of it. Robbie is  West Highland White Terrier.

John, I sympathize, my wife has an incredible amount of clothes stuffed in closets, storage bins, a rack in the laundry. When we have to move out of the house she has a huge job ahead.

Evening from Frosty Minnesota.  Soon to warm up soon with the second batch of Indian Summer.

Got scarce for a few days.  I'll tell you it's either feast or fathom.  No work for days on end and all of the sudden, there's plumbing problems all over the building.  I have special tools for reaching up under the sink but faucets from 1970 when the building was built need to be cut with a diamond bit and the pot metal nuts chiseled out.  When it comes to Plumbing I like brass and plastic!

A lot of catching up to do after two days.  I'm beginning to think the MR Forum is like 494 here in Bloomington MPLS.  It just never stops.  That's a good thingWink

First of all happy belated birthday to Henry.

The goldfinches Dave.  I used to see them a lot here but not as much all summer.  Although we did have a Northern Harrier hawk kind of swooping the area quite a little bit this year.

Charlie   Sorry to hear about Robbie.  You have posted pictures of him and I like your dog,  it's hard when they get older.  I will not own another dog as I have become more emotional as I've gotten older.  Since Magnum and Nellie passed.  I don't think I can outlive another dog and I like to pick up and go not to worry anymore.

Garry   Loved the Steamers and the trail of steam dissipating into the atmosphere.  Especially the one with the sunset behind it!  And the geese flying the opposite way of North.

Kevin  We were short on Blue Jays this year of what I usually see.  Those things suck the little Tweety's eggs.  They're very mean just as much as they are beautiful but that's kind of how nature rollsSad

Douglas  You commented on how your wife doesn't like to get rid of anything.  I can appreciate your pain after I just got rid of my storage of 7 yearsIndifferent

Brent  That eagle in your backyard looked like his left-wing was really messed up I gathered what you were talking about.  Hope he got the help he needed.  Back when I was a teenager and my parents took us to Canada fishing.  Subconsciously I think I was always looking for that Canadian Pacific beaver.  It wasn't until many years later I found one I really admired in International FallsWhistlingYes

John  Your countertops 2 weeks.  That's what every contractor since the history of man says.  Watch that old movie Money Pit with Tom HanksLaugh  Every contractor on that film says two weeksLaugh

Brent  Wishing the best for your sister's knee surgery on November 16thYes  You can take that as a well wish as I have had 7 on my right knee.  Love the Paddlewheel Steamers you and Ed posted.  I have some retrofitted diesel Pattle Wheels in Stillwater Mn. that I really like here.

Jimmy  I hope you're feeling better.  Sometimes when your young and keep running to the kitchen for something to eat every five minutes you're missing some kind of vitamin.  You may have hit the nail right on the head there!  Judging by some of your layout pictures I've seen lately you're doing okayStick out tongue  You will bounce back because you're youngYes

Garry   I really enjoyed the Copper Country Limited and the Michigan Big Steel pics!

Ed   The Hiawatha rear Dome observation carYes   I never seen the inside of that thing  but I always wondered.  Nice!

John   I like the big Rail Loader Ship.  Those things are cool!

Wow, ...That's what I get for skipping two days!  I do believe I got caught up thoughSmile, Wink & Grin

Have a great evening gentlemenWink

P.S.   I may edit a couple of pics later if I'm not too tired from the last couple of days of PlumbingConfusedSmile

While we are in Michigan, I can show photos of about 25 years ago from inside the steel mill in Ecorse, Mi next to Detroit River.

Thanks for those photos, Garry!

I've always been fascinated by Ford's River Rouge plant. What an amazing complex. All raw materials in >>> Ford automobiles out!

One of my GE co-w**kers was at the power plant the day of the big 1999 gas explosion. What a mess! They still use this example in training for lockout-tagout.

I hope everyone is doing fine today —

Cheers, Ed

Afternoon all. My division is holding a meeting next month, so my layout will be open for visitors. So, I've got to do a bit more of a push to get a few projects done before  11/15.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Good Morning,

Another cold day here, about 30F for a high. Supposedly it is going to hit 50 next week.

I agree, those Skytop cars are 'neat'. I saw one on the tail end of CP steam excursion in 2007. I had explored riding it from Thief River Falls to Winnipeg but there wasn't any way for me to go back there to retrieve my car. My wife doesn't drive. She did for a short time before we met but let her license lapse as she found driving too stressful.

Well I figured out the track and turnout I need to re-configure the harbour siding and get rid of that problem area. I just have to order the bits.

Another day with not much going on. My wife still has us on quatanteen from each other which means I live in the basement. Getting tired of this. I do try to be safe but it is never good enough.

Good morning, everyone.  Bacon, eggs, and black coffee.

My layout work is really slow.  I'm still working on the church I am building, but it is slow-going.  Hopefully I can finish it soon and move on to another project.

I found this picture on the Library of Congress page.  All it says is Detroit, 1905.  For some reason, I love these combinations of rail cars and ships:

I hope everyone has a healthy day today.

While we are in Michigan, I can show photos of about 25 years ago from inside the steel mill in Ecorse, Mi next to Detroit River. It was National Steel Company. Steel mills are big, dirty, ugly, and very dangerous. I still have the hard hat I used while I worked there.

Thanks to this Covid  outbreak I have been waiting for a couple of items for months now.

Then this morning 'Success'.   Some nameplates for three of my engines plus some signals arrived.   Time to be in the train room.  Big Smile

I am still waiting for one more item;  a steam crane.  I ordered that in February 2020.   There is still no word when it will be released; or the final price it will cost.  A case of just waiting.

Happy modeling.

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

Garry That photo made me feel cold! I do like winter, easier to get warm than cool.

Jimmy I as well hope you feel better.

Trying day at work. Had a call with Nancy and Marvin that got me hot. Angry Won't go into details, but I did what I was told to do. I told the coustmer what I was told to say and sat the delivery date. Then they changed there mind? It all workout in the end. At one point Nancy said "your a company man and work for me not the customer!" I replied " I work for the company and the customer!" She had no come back for that one.

Most viexing part of the day was changing out prices tags. Sounds easy, but it is not the way this company is ran.

Later, Ken and Dirk says I bite Nancy for you daddy! Woof, Woof!

Hello, Folks!

hon30critter
I am amazed that the paddle wheels didn't disintegrate when they were pounding through the ice!

I wonder if this is one of the design criteria between a "stern-wheeler" and a "side wheeler"? At least the stern wheeler will have the wheel following in the ship's own trough. [edit] I was incorrect in my assumption. Lansdowne is indeed a sidewheeler.

Thanks for the condolences for our cat, Dave. I hope your package arrives soon! I used two-day shipping and I guess this translates to "two week!".

Great Michigan photos, folks. Hope you're doing better, Garry. Sorry for your bout of health issues, Jimmy. I had a leg pain like that last year and went in for an ultrasound but they found nothing. Better safe than sorry.

I remember seeing the Lansdowne when she was moored in Erie, Pennsylvania, and the Milwaukee Skytops were still welded to her deck. If I recall she was towed to Buffalo for scrapping in 2009.

HERE is a look at what was left of the Skytop cars after arriving at the Milwaukee Road Heritage Center.

And this is what they originally looked like:
