That sounds like a great day John, I wish I was doing that.

My grandson Xavier just had his first birthday days ago.  That kid is running around the house like a champion already.  I expected no less as his brothers are heavily into thier sports.  I guess he is not wasting any timeWink

House Remodel/Working Towards A Trainroom Update:

The inspector from the city came by Friday and approved/signed off on the Hurricane Windows installation. The HVAC people will be here tomorrow, and the landscape trees are also being installed tomorrow. The drywall finishers will be the day after.

The contractor that is installing the new front window and sliding doors will be here Tuesday 08/SEP/2020 to begin that work.

Finally things are moving!

Maybe 01/JAN/2021 will be day I start on my new layout!

It's good to hear the contractor you had on retainer finally decide to show up and get your hurricane windows in for you Kevin.  I remember you talking about that in frustration a while back.

Sounds like things are moving along for you now.  I bet you are excited about your new layout room,  I would be!

Let me know if you have the need for the custom HO double tunnel portals.

They're just sitting here taking up space.  Don't try to PM me though as nobody at MR is willing to help fix my messaging problem after 5 months and several phone calls.  I still cannot get my PM's here.

Thanks for the offer, but I am portal-heavy.

The track plan calls for two double portals, and I have five already!

I won't get involved with chiropractors. I just don't trust them.

HmmHmm A good chiropractor has been the only help for my back, though the Lion is right, they do like those repeat visits.

Easy, just stop going.

Just my My 2 Cents

I had a really good chiro-cracker for years.  I only went to him to be fixed when I really needed him and he got the job done.  This guy was not a quack but was good and knew what he was doing.  The consultation always took way longer than the adjustment because he cared.

Yep,  he always wanted me to come back for preventive maintenance and I just blew that off.  Can't blame them for trying as they have bills too.

I only needed that guys service once in a blue moon.  A lot of years passed from the last time I needed him.  I looked him up and found out he was retired.

I suffered through my dilemma and haven't been to another chiro-cracker since.

They definitely are not all the same but that is another story.

Good afternoon all from paradise where it is about 25c and perfect.

Good to see Lion tickling the keyboard once again, I was watching You-Tube videos about Assumption Abbey and spotted you a few times.Wink

I had a very frustrating week spending hours in the Law office and on the phone dealing with this Estate I am looking after. I think the worst is over as the developers were up to no good, once we reminded them we had a 4.3 million dollar deposit of theirs and I would walk with it, things got settled pretty quickly. I suggested they check with their lawyer to see if the course they were following was a prudent one.Laugh It is a good thing I am a zero stress guy but I still roll my eyes heavenward on a regular basis.Laugh

Dave, sorry your back is giving you so much grief. Inflammation is pain and pain is inflammation. Sugar/carbs cause inflammation. If you go on a low carb diet for one week, you will know if it is your diet that is a big, small or no part of the pain problem. If you feel better after a very low carb week, I'll point you to some information to make you feel even better. If I have a big piece of chocolate cake or bowl of ice cream I am on the pain train with my Arthritis. I was on Oxycocet and Tylenol for years until I started educating myself on nutrition and now I never need the stuff. Try low carb for one week and it may change your life, it did mine.

My old dog finally moved on last night after recovering from two strokes. His will to live was something and he just kept going despite his issues. He was starting to show signs of distress all of a sudden and so a Vet friend of the wifes came by with the required drugs and he was put down five feet from where he was born just short of his fifteenth birthday. He has hundreds of famous show kids all over the world and is the talk of the day on all the dog chat sites. After doing his thing for the wife in the show ring he always came home and would never leave my side. The house feels empty without him. The wife has a good supply of frozen semen from him, so it will be nice to get a son from him down the road.

The Canucks are on soon. They are having a tough go of it with the knights, however, if they get by them whoever they face next should be easier. Bought myself a bottle of Glenlivet to drown my sorrows from losing my dog and it may have to do double duty if the Canucks lose.Laugh

I left a HO scale FB group that I had enjoyed for quite a while. I don't know if it was just some trolls that signed up or what, but the hatred that was being spewed was something else. I'll just turn on the news if I want to see that. The other FB sites I visit have some pretty nice people hanging out on them so all is not lost.

Time to go run a train.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please. Set a side a dog treat for Brents pup when he gets to rainbow bridge and Dirk will have his now.

Mr B My GG1 is a BLI Pargon I. It has Kadee's all ready. Love this engine!

Got a lot done for me today.

1 Cut off the 12" maple tree limb that would have hug over my 68 Road Runner. I have been worried for years. Two things surprsied me. Lot of sap pourd out of it. All so a lot of Black Ant's? Surprise Never realy thought about ants eating out the inside of wood. Great, a new worry!

2 Cleared some small trees that was next to the backyard fenes. Looks like I need to spend around $300.00 in lumber for 30 1" X 6" X 16' boards. Plus about $40.00 for 2 gallons of Cabin Plank color paint. The boards I relaced 7 years ago and painted it with Bear (spell check) has held up well.

Wife bought me a Mexican Dinner from a resturant she loves tonight. I think it taste Ok. Best part is I will clean out the old Ash Pan Big Time Monday.

Later, Ken and Dirk says Woof, Woof!

Last week I had a tree removed that was just a little too close to the house for my comfort. Tree service arrived at 8:05 and they were gone by 8:45.  $650. ($975/hr) ! Whistling Nice work if you can get it!

I hope everyone is getting along well.

So Sorry about your friend Brent.

My last two dogs Nellie and Magnum were so hard to let go I just can't do it anymore.

I may have about 15 years left in me but I'm not going to get another dog and go through that anymore because I just can't.

Let's just keep supporting the Canucks nowYes

Chloe, please get me a nice cold brew and a bowl of pretzels.

Why did I wait so long to buy this tool?

I knocked out 50% of the thin set today in about 3 hours. Tomorrow I will level this half of the room and get ready to lay some tile!

Moving forward at good speed now!

Good evening . Still trying to catch up with everybody .

Where will we have the September Diner.

Brent..... Sorry to hear you lost your dog.

TF .... I, too, have problems the messaging in this forum. CN Charlie was able to reach me a few days ago in a thread we started months ago. Starting a new conversation is challenging. The tunnel portals look nice, but I do not need them.

Ed ..... I like the CZ dome observation car on your layout. Growing up on the CB&Q, I saw the CZ many times.

Here is Silver Horizon on display in Maricopa, AZ. ..... I took the photo a few years ago. Last year I saw it again, and it was being moved to make room for a highway bridge. Maricopa is on a UP main line, the former SP Sunset Route. I don't know why it is now in that location.

Over the past week, we had a great time with family members visiting here from Florida and from Michigan. Most of the time was activities on the lake. Boating, fishing, etc.

Everybody .... Have a nice night.

Hi Brent,

Our diet is not heavy on carbs. Most meals include a small piece of protein, a veggie and a salad. We rarely have dessert, although Dianne did make a peach pie last Friday because Ontario peaches are in season and they are great! (What peaches aren't?) I haven't identified a relationship between sugar consumption and subsequent pain. After I had some of the pie on Friday and Saturday I was fine. The really bad back pain occurred before the pie.

Most of my back pain is positional, i.e. when I am walking or standing or lifting something. Usually it goes away when I sit down, but occassionally I will get localized pain that just comes from nowhere and takes hours to go away. That's what I had a few days ago. It is gone now.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Sorry for the loss of your dog! I love dogs but I couldn't do one justice. Dianne would have to do all the walking and the work.

Looking good Kevin!

I asked myself why I waited so long to replace my radial arm saw blades. It's amazing how much easier life is with a good tool!

A brand new blade is always the key to a new job

I'm just glad I never had to chisel thinset with a hammer drill but that doesn't mean I'm too good for the jobYes

It just means a brand-new 2" chisel bit would be in order

Where will we have the September Diner.

Hi Garry,

I had suggested some place where the fall colours would be good, but it was wisely suggested that we do that in October when the the colours are at their prime. As an alternate for September, I suggested going to New Mexico, even though it is right next door to where we are now. My reasoning was that I came across a ton of New Mexico railroading when I was searching for Mexican railroads. There seems to be a lot going on there, both modern and historical.

Other suggestions are most welcome!

I'll volunteer to start the Diner wherever it ends up unless somebody else wants to, and I'll try not to fall asleep this time!EmbarrassedLaughLaugh

Brent, my thoughts are with you.  Both for the dog, and the canucks.

Kevin, I love having the right tool for the job.  When I replaced some flooring in our upstairs I had to undercut a few door frames and started doing so by hand.  I cut one side of one frame, then I bought an oscillating saw.  What a difference!  Still can't understand why I waited to get one.

Ed, I'm calling today for quotes to have 5 trees taken down.  Tongue Tied 4 big pines and a huge old elm tree that is falling apart on it's own.  Don't want that one coming down unplanned.  A tree service just dropped a huge old oak tree that was dying in my neighborhood this weekend.  Probably 100 years old.  Took them two full days.

Everyone, hope you have a good Monday!

Cheers,

Mike

I will vote for New Mexico for the diner.  Never been there, so that's a good enough excuse for me.

I love an excuse to get a new tool.  I won't buy one because I think I might need it some day, but when there's a job to be done, I will get a tool for it if I need one.

Good morning Zoe, I will just have a black coffee.

The landscapers are coming today to install 42 Areca Palms, a Coconut Palm, and a Southern Magnolia. Delivery and installation was only $150.00 additional cost, and that is 44 holes I do not have to dig... A BARGAIN!

I am driving to Tampa tomorrow. This will be the first shopping trip I have been on in months. My wife thinks that we will find the perfect bathroom mirror at IKEA, so I will see what she picks out for us.

New Mexico sounds good for the diner. I will have nothing to contribute. I have never been to New Mexico.

Everybody be safe today.

I am on the phone with the insurance claim department. Over the weekend we discovered that the condensation drain for the A/C unit in the attic is plugged. We figured it out when we saw a big bulge (actually two big bulges) in the paint in the ceiling. We poked a hole and water came gushing out. I have been told everything, except the A/C repair is covered. Wahoo!

Hey Chip, we too have been enjoying a respite from the heat, but certainly not from the humidity. This morning was a balmy 76 but the dew point was up in the mid-60s. It will be short lived--the forecast for Saturday is back up to 110.

Hmmmmmm.....  Makes me glad where I live they put Air Conditioning units outside the house...... Well, OK the part that creates condensation is in the basement as part of the furnace.

Nice day here in the Finger Lakes with the current temp at 69°F.  Very pleasant for my morning run.  Of course here we have 4 seasons....  Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road Repair.

For those of you that may be planning to do some hiking over the Labor Day Weekend, do take this Warning seriously....  We have had a few sightings of Black Bears right here in Geneva this year.  (just a couple young cubs moving through last Spring actually, but they are around!)

Brent, so sorry to hear of your dog having to be put down.  Sounds like he had a good home and a good life!

The A/C compressors are located on pads outside the house. We don't have basements here so the furnace/AC condensor coil and blower is in the attic. We have two AC units, one for each side of the house, and the furnace for the second unit is in the garage.
