I am going to sit here in the corner and complain. Just ignore me.

I am so tired of the heat. The previous record for number of days where the high temperature in Phoenix was 110+ was set in 2011 -- 33 days. We clipped that mark on August 9th and, counting today (it is currently 114), have had an additional 10 days. The forecast shows three more days this week. This morning it cooled all the way down to 90 went I went out for my morning ride at 5:45.

I am so tired of the heat.

I feel your pain. I'm just up the I-17 from you. We're not quite as bad, but our AC unit's compressor went out in June. We decided to wait until spring to replace it. Not fun.

I'll take the side of TF.

Coming from New Orleans, I never thought I would enjoy northern weather.

However, I now prefer cold to hot.  Nothing is better to me than coming in from the snow and sitting in front of the fireplace, watching TV.

My brother wanted me to change our fireplace to gas, but I refused.  I love going out through the snow to the wood storage, bringing in wood, and stirring the fire.  The fireplace doesn't heat the house, but it sure makes the atmosphere great.

If I had to make a choice today, I would opt for the north woods over the southern beaches.  My daughters are all the other way.  Being raised in Louisiana, they are Southern through and through.

Richard and Chip, those temperatures are crazy. We had a high of 94 today and a low of 72. We also had a nice cool rain about 3:00 in the afternoon.

We usually only have 2-3 days a year with highs over 100, we never get over 110!

I'm with Track Fiddler.  I liked the cold of Massachusetts.  One night, I pitched a tent out where I worked, just to test my new sleeping bag.  It worked fine.  Zero degrees.

A couple of more weeks and the summer tourists will disappear.  The heat will go with them.

Hello, everyone —

York1
My brother wanted me to change our fireplace to gas, but I refused.  I love going out through the snow to the wood storage, bringing in wood, and stirring the fire.

Yes! I installed our freestanding airtight stove the first year I moved in here in 1984. It has been working every year since. I've been splitting and stacking firewood over the past few weeks. Our land here provides plenty of firewood, all our potable water, (and sewage treatment) much of our vegetables from the garden, plus years of enjoyment. We are so fortunate.

We have no plans to move to a milder climate. Our wood stove provides about 75% of our heating needs, and we keep it comfortable inside. Most years we light the stove in mid-November and it burns through mid- to late-April. Plus several stoves in the caboose, tractor barn, depot and garden shed. I sometimes burn coal in these just for the "aroma" Big Smile

I'm looking forward to another cool, crisp fall.

Cheers, Ed

I am looking forward to Winter.  It has been hot way too long up here in Minnesota and I can't even imagine your Southern States.

It seems I don't have a worry in the world anymore but the weather.  I don't like what's being dealt but I can deal with it.

Post hog

I found the picture of the sign I built with my dad at the resort over 40 years ago when it was brand new.  Since then my dad is no longer with us.

That's me although I do not have red hair is the aging of the photo.

Here is a current picture of it now with the weathering and patina after 40 some years.  I'm just glad it's still there.

It melted my heart that it's still there after all these years and I do like it looking old like me.

I have heard from the Lion! He is fine! Here is what he had to say:

I am here, well and fine. And thanks for checking in with me.

This past two weeks I have been up to my eyeballs in servers that do not work, and tow of these are my mail servers.

Beyond that I have just been busy with many things, and have not bothered to stop in, mostly because my web server is not working and I had no way to post photographs. I think that there is light at the end of the tunnel, but it just might be a locomotive. ewe never know!

I tried to get in today, but the forum wanted me to log in, and my log-in information seems to have left my computer. all gone!

I am not sure what I was using for an email address or a password. I tried to reset the password but the Kalmbach server does not have updated security certificates and so Firefox will not let me in to reset the password. You might let the webmaster know that modern browsers are locking him out.

Anyway, give my regards to everyone there, and I will try to check in to see what is happening, even if I cannot log in yet.

All my best, Elias

Dave

I just saw on the news that the Giant Ribald Tegu Lizard has been confirmed in South Carolina.

Sorry folks, that is one nasty non-native nuisance to deal with. They are already living in Florida and Georgia.

Good evening all, it was another perfect day in paradise with temps in the mid-twenties. Just enough Summer and just enough Winter to make things perfectly enjoyable. No bugs that make you stay indoors or require repellent.Smile

The painters are coming in the morning to wash the house and will start painting on Friday. Windows floors, kitchen will follow as we get to it over the coming months. The trouble with having so much going on, we are finding it hard to fit it in. It will get done though.

Sat down and had a long discussion with the kids yesterday as we need to get our will(s) updated. Both kids agreed that trust is the best way to go all things considered. This will offer them the best protection from so many things.

TF, love the sign, it reminded me of a fishing resort we went to for years on Kootenay Lake. It was built and run by a German family and was always in pristine condition and they were a wonderful host. I went back to check the place out when we were in the area some 40 years later. What a heartbreak, it was totally run down, I wish I had not stopped by.Sigh

I love woodburning fireplaces and was disappointed when I bought this place as it had gas fireplaces. I had wood at my old house and after a day at work out in the cold, it was nice to park myself in front of the crackle of wood burning.

The Canucks forgot to show up last night. History shows they rarely show up for the first game in a series though, so I hope they come to play tomorrow.

Speaking of camping out in the snow and cold, I took a two-week survival course in February in the mountains about a 100 miles North of Vancouver once. It was horrible. It was a pilot program offered by the school board and I volunteered thinking it was two weeks of getting out of school. We had limited food, a sleeping bag but no tent, just a piece of plastic to put around the bag. Worst experience of my life, but I learned a lot.

I am out of gas early tonight so will join the wife as she is always in bed by 2100hrs. She is soft and cuddly and the same size as she was when I married her. Meryl Streep never really caught my attention until I hooked up with and married a knock off. Then all of a sudden she was the most beautiful woman in the world.Laugh

All the best to all.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk a dog treat.

Kevin Up here in the North we do have wind chill as part of our weather guessing forcast.

Weather here was nasty today. Very sticky outside and it was only 82 degress when I got home. Only sat outside with Dirk for about 10 minutes, then I was done.

Lion Good to hear it was only computer problems from being on the site.

Best 2 things I have done after buying this house?

  1.Installed a widow A/C to the garage.

2 Added gas heat to the garage.

Ed Good talking to you tonight.

Later, Ken and Dirk says Woof, Woof.

Does anyone remember the name of Lion's Abbey?

I seem to recall it is this one:

It seems like LION'S photo hosting sites are down as well.

I think I will go to account settings and put my standard password in tha spot.

And then I will lode it in my password utility which is where I look for things that I did not finde.

Server of Broadway is still in hiding... It is a 'DNS  issue, and I will have to call my provider to see watt him can about it do!

Good morning, everyone, at least for the next 15 minutes.

Lion, it's great to hear from you again.  I'm headed to Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the near future, to do some hiking.  I'll honk on I-94 when I go by.

Thanks for the Budweiser, Kevin!  There are many who don't like that beer, and I remember Ulrich even saying it's not really beer.  I don't care.  It's my favorite, and nothing tastes better to me after a hot day than an ice cold Bud.

When the kids were little, I took them every Saturday morning to Tastee Donuts.  I decided that will be my next scratchbuild project on the layout -- a Tastee Donut shop.  Brings back great memories of me and the girls sitting at the counter eating donuts every week.

How about those cars!

Everyone must be busy with other things beside hanging around the diner? DinnerWhistling

Pleasant weather here the past few days, more rain is needed, though StormUmbrellaStorm

Yes, it was nice to have a chat with you, Ken. I looked at my JMRI last night and my version has a "Clear Unused Slots" button in the Loconet > Slot Monitor menu.

Did you give me a Broadway Limited virus? HmmDead I was running my new PRR Streamlined K4 and all of a sudden the decoder went haywire Crying

At least half my Paragon 3 decoders have gone belly-up. Where is BLI getting their electronics made. No QC! I have a message sent to service and awaiting their response.

There was a beautiful sunrise this morning, blood-red orb, but by the time I walked back to a clearing the sun had already risen too high for a good photo.

Glad to see the LION is back on the mane-lion Big Smile
