Dave - I still keep on seeing "ghosts" in my left eye, but that is supposed to be normal. My eye doc told me that this will eventually go away, but it´ll take a few weeks. I have a check up coming Wednesday to see, whether it´s healing nicely.
We will be going to Denmark on Thursday to take a look at the house. So far, it looks promising. I wrote a letter to the editor of a German language newspaper published in southern Denmark for the German minority, and it was published. I already received a feedback confirming the anti-German attitude of the real estate people.
Happy times!

Well, I think you understand why they have some issues. We can't change history. I hope things work out.
Hey Ulrich, you have the top of the page! What's for breakfast?!?
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
hon30critterWell, I think you understand why they have some issues.
No, I don´t! The war ended 75 years ago and it is long overdue, that bygones are left to be bygones. None of my family was involved in any atrocities, but was lucky to survve that time. My father was dispatched to one of those camps, because he publically claimed to be a democrat who does not need or want a Führer.
Guys, order whatever you like for breakfast - it´s on my tab!
Hi Ulrich,
Sorry to touch a nerve. Your family were obviously decent people.
Since breakfast is on you, I'll have three eggs over easy on rye toast with home fries and some of the bacon that was recently posted in the Diner. Add to that a large glass of apple juice and a decaf coffee with Baileys Irish Cream.
Cheers,
hon30critterSorry to touch a nerve.
You did, indeed! Frankly, I am sick and tired of being held accountable for something which happened 3 generations ago and none of my family was involved in.
Better to let this issue rest now - I may get way to explicit, if we continue.
Good morning, everyone. Another beautiful morning on the Great Plains. Of course, the 'beautiful' part will change by this afternoon when the temps are in the 90s and the dew point is over 70°.
We live surrounded by thousands of square miles of irrigated farmland. Once all the pivots start spraying water into the air, our humidity skyrockets. It's like old home time for us New Orleans expatriates.
I have no preference for the location of the July diner. I regret not hearing more from our favorite (only?) subway operator in North Dakota. I really hoped to see a lot of pictures. I know that his family is dealing with a lot of suffering right now. Hopefully, things will get better for him soon.
I've decided to act on one of my 2020 resolutions. This next month, I'm going to start learning how to use Arduino tech for the layout. I'm looking forward to it, but for some reason I've also been dragging my feet in getting started.
I hope everyone with health issues has some relief, and that everyone has a good day.

Jeepers!
I am trying to find my way through the Danish red tape of immigration. While EU citizens cannot be denied entry into Denmark, there is an awful lot of forms necessary to get the residence permit, much more than in my country. The funny thing is, they require an adress in Denmark which one cannot have until you get the permission to reside in Denmark! It´s like answering the question of what came first, the hen or the egg? The German minority organisation in Denmark offers consultancy and help in these issues, which I will make use of. It means a third and maybe a fourth trip to Denmark! I feel like taking a tent along and camp out somewhere in the sticks!
Good morning .
Since breaakfast is on Ulrich according to Dave, I'll have a cheese Danish with coffee, please.
Ulrich .... Best wishes regarding your move to Denmark. Perhaps some day you can tell us about Danish railroads. By the way, I have had all positive experiences with all Germans I have met. Good people in my opinion.
Dave ..... You asked about a location for July's Diner. Maybe Eastern Canada would be good. I really liked Nova Scotia when I was there.
John York 1 ..... I, too, had hoped we could see Lion's subway photos this month. HE had sad news in his family, and we understand that would stop him from postimg pictures. .
Everybody ...... Have a nice day.

Like everywhere else, we have decent people and not so decent people in this country. Those who travel usually belong to the former group. Like everywhere else, the number of people in the latter group appears to be growing.

Maybe you can use the address of your tent to speed the process along.

Not a bad idea
hon30critterSo, where do you want to go? Where were your best railroading experiences and memories? What's the place that you have always wanted to model?
Allow me to toss my hat in the ring —
Any thoughts on jolly ol' England?
I had suggested it some time ago but the idea seemed to fall on deaf ears. I believe there's lots to see there and many modelers as well. I've never been there but it would be on my "bucket list" If I were to ever cross the Atlantic for any reason.

Who can say that they wouldn't love to experience any of these locomotives, at speed!
I'd be willing to host if the powers that be were amenable.
Cheers, Ed
I'll second England as long as I can get a full English breakfast every day.
hon30critter While I'm at it, does anyone else want to start the July Diner? I'm beginning to feel like one of TF's post hogs.

That's because you are Dave!... Dave is a Post-hog!... Welcome to the club
P.S. I forgot to mention Dave, I think you always do such a great job with the the Diner thread. The host with the most
How's it going guys? I hope you are all doing well I've just been helping Judy and her niece with things. Busy, busy but creating some fun on the side to get her mind off things as well
Railroad front. Working on my bridge a bit. I started on the piers. It seems to be more figuring than doing sometimes but that's half the fun right?
KEVIN! Thank you for the beautiful gift for my friend Gary. I've been stopping by to admire those freight cars every time I walk by them. They are Amazing!!! I know Gary is going to be very pleased the next time I see him in the backyard at the club.
Thank you
TF
P.S. Again. I'm easy,... England sounds like a good place to go Ed, John. I always did want to go there mates
I'd support a trip across the Pond. Closing on four centuries since forebears emigrated from Horton in Somerset (one family wag said that made us out to be either heretics or criminals!). BUT if we go, we would have to ship the Chapel Car over. It's gotten a lot of use in June, perched there behind the diner. Would it be fully gauge compatible?
We'd have to have lots and lots of photos of restored English steam. Seems like I see most of it as backdrop to BBC and independent British period series. For that matter, they must have huge warehouses to store all the old vehicles that appear in the same flicks. Must be what retired and weekends-off guys do - honor heritage mechanically.
John
AttuvianWe'd have to have lots and lots of photos of restored English steam.
And..... Maybe a few of some "new" steam working the rails! I "own" a few nuts and bolts on this one!
I donated some $$$$ back when she was being built!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Good evening to all I was "in the neighborhood" so to speak so I thought that I would say "Hi!' to you fine people. I hope all is well and you stay that way.
TF: Glad to hear Gary's cars made it to you OK. I hope he enjoys them.
I went to the original Hattie B's Hot Chicken location in Nashville for lunch. It was amazing. We had to eat on the sidewalk, but it was so good.
We also went to the National Corvette Museum and then Train Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky today. Big surprise... there is an Ed Roth "Rat Fink" section in the Corvette museum. That was incredible. The E unit at Train Park was good to see.
Tomorrow I am going to the Kentucky Railroad Museum in Elizabethtown, then on to Ohio.

Living the dream.
Good evening ....
Kevin ..... Our train group here was planning a trip to Bowling Green and to the KY Ry Museum, but we suspended plans due to the virus. Too bad, we did not coordinate a get-together there. We are also thinking of including My Old Kentucky Dinner Train in Bardstown.
TF ..... Good to hear from you. Apaprently, you are doing your part helping the family through the ordeal.
Here is the Twin Cities Zephyr as it looked in the early 1940's.
Everybody .... Have a nice night .
Good Morning!
Boy, is it hot! We can hardly cool our apartment down! Today is going to be the hottest day of the season so far, with temperatures hitting 85F and aove. For some of you guys this may sound kind of cool, but for us not spoliled rotten by A/C, this is hot!
A visit to England is fine with me. We should include Wales and Scotland, though, as there are some fine railway lines to be visited there. The UK have a well established railway preservation scene, which are a boost to tourism in some remote regions. Mostly, the trains run along branch lines which fell victim to Dr. Beeching´s axe in the early 1960s. Dr. Beeching was the head of the British Railway Board, responsible for the butchering of British Railways. With the closure of those branchlines, thousands of steam engines were taken out of service and sold to the scrappers. Quite a few of them were sold to the Barry brothers, who never scrapped them, but stored them in what was to become famous as "Barry Yard", a treasure trough for steam engine aficionados in later years. Quite a few of the old junkers have been restored to their former glory - for us to enjoy these days!
We have had German neighbours for 32 years and they have been exceptional! Their gardens are beautiful and immaculately kept. They are polite and friendly in every way, and interesting to talk to. Unfortunately the father passed away recently but his son is maintaining the house and gardens just as well as his dad did. We are hoping the son will stay in the house after his mother passes away or goes into a seniors' home.
I think a trip to the British Isles would be excellent! Certainly no shortage of history and lots of modellers too.
I will leave the decision until the end of the month so please chime in if you have other suggestions.
Dave - you have my vote! I can contribute a few bits and bobs to this journey!
If you have a few spare moments today, enjoy this "toy train" video showing the Matheran Light Rlwy. in the Indian State of Maharshtra.

Good morning. It was already hot and humid at 6:00 a.m. for the trail walk. Lots of sweating.
Bowling Green, Kentucky, is a neat place to visit. In addition to the Corvette Museum, the GM Corvette factory has a great tour to see the sports car being built. Also, Mammoth Cave near Bowling Green is a neat national park to visit.
It's grass cutting time this morning before it gets too hot. I'm sitting in my rocking chair on the front porch. A nest of robin babies is squawking, and the mother is in the grass trying to find some food for them. They are noisy.
A group of men and I meet at 6:00 a.m. on Friday mornings for a study. The local restaurant finally opened again, so we can meet. It's a good time to get together and complain while we eat a big breakfast.
Have a great Friday today. For those of you working at jobs, save your money! Retirement means that every day is the beginning of the weekend.
Good morning ...... Coffee and a donut, please.
It is still June, and we are still in MN, ND, and SD.
The Chicago and Northwestern operated a train from Chicago that went through Wisconsin and Minnesota to western South Dakota. It was called the Dakopta 400.
Good morning
I had better have had my coffee by now already
Your suggestion sounds like a good one Dave It looks like Ed and Ulrich concur's. Hello Ed, Hi Ulrich, A field trip to Wales and Scotland while we are there,... Yes.
Hi Garry, Good to see you again and thank you for the black and white of the Twin Cities Zephyr of the 1940s. And your current post of Chicago and Northwestern,... Sweeeet!
Duluth Depot, Anyone know this one's Road name?
Here's a few more
This one certainly fits my request.
A few more History pics taken in Minnesota. Thanks everyone else I have not mentioned for your pictures and vids
Everyone have a great day today
Good Evening!
I don´t whether I should laugh or cry. In a nutshell - we will not go to see the house in Denmark next week. The house is just too small, and I don´t think I can live with a ceiling not much above 6 ft. from the floor. Adding to this, there is an airfield in a couple of hundreds yards from the house. While not directly visible, it is definitively within earshot.
We have also decided to drop the idea of moving to Denmark. I think I completely underestimated the amount of red tape involved with such a move! Add to that a certain risk coming from exchange rate issues! It´s not of much use following a dream which has a fair chance to turn out into a pipe dream or even a nightmare.
We are back to square one regarding our relocation!

The picture didn't turn out so well. The Bloomington switchers as I call them. I bumped into Progressive Rail while I was grocery shopping the other day.
I see these guys frequently making their deliveries. Most people are annoyed but I'm probably the only one in Bloomington that enjoys getting stopped at rail crossings when these guys are doing their job.
A better picture of Progressive Rail.
Hey you guys! Meet me here for lunch while we're still in Minnesota. I'll buy you a burger and a beer
