Evening all from a sunny and very warm Pacific Rim.

Had a bit of excietment yesterday a neighbour about 300m up the road discovered one of those killer asian monster wasp nest. Agriculture Canada was on the scene quickly to dispatch them all.

The wife has been cooking all afternoon and we got the motors running to deliver gourmet meals to several seniors tonight. They love getting these things as my wife is an incredible cook.

Have to lay off the Rum and Pepsi as the sugar content has got my pain level up, I should know that more than three days in a row and I pay the price.

Time to hit the road with the grub. Here is an ad with a train in it that has been on TV up here.

All the best to all.

Guess I'm getting to the geezer category.

Geezer category is when you go out in the morning with a mask over your face because everyone is concerned about the Carona virus and one of your walking partners says he remembers when Corona was a beer.

Then you say that's nothing.  I remember when Carona was a typewriter.

And then he says what's a typewriter?

Now you're officially a geezer.

I had high hope's as I learned my two Hobby stores are open up here for curbside pickup if you know what you want.

It looks like my local hobby shop, Victory Models and Trains in Fort Myers, is not going to re-open their physical store. I believe they will be web only from now on.

That stinks for me. I might as well just order from MB Klein.

On my bicycle ride this morning, I had a bug fly unabated into my mouth, straight to the back of my throat, where it stuck. I grabbed the water bottle to wash it down (just road protein, right?) but no, it stayed right there. Luckily a couple of strong throat clears moved it into my mouth so I could spit it out. At least it wasn't a murder hornet.

Afternoon folks!

Just about out the door to my podiatrist appt.  When I get there I have to ring the doorbell and wait until the door is opened.  At that point I will be told what to do.  may be brought in immediatly or may have to sit in the car for a while....

Good Afternoon,

Sunny and about 55F here today. No rain in the forecast which means we have had a very dry spring. Good thing in some ways as the ground was saturated before freeze-up and there was a worry about flooding if it rained a lot.  The soil here is clay so it absorbs moisture like a sponge.

Peanut butter and bannana sandwiches get my vote as a great one. Especially if the bread is toasted. I knew a fellow who took a hot dog bun, slathered in peanut butter, and then plunked a pealed bannana in it. Mind you the brand of peanut butter is important too. I like Kraft but I understand it isn't available in the U.S.

I've been busy cleaning up the yard. The front is largely done now. I raked the grass with a thatch rake I have. It is at least 40 years old and I haven't seen one in a store for many years. It works great with the just the weight of the rake needed to remove the dead grass.

I have another grocery pick up today. Just some meat from a local butcher shop. We now have a small grocery store in our basement. In the storage area we have a large shelf unit that is about 12 feet long with shelves 3 feet deep. One whole length is full and we are about have way done another shelf. At least it has forced us to clean out a lot of junk. We also have 2 fridges and a small freezer full. That doesn't include paper products that are stored in the sauna. The house had the sauna when we bought it but in 30 years it has only been used for storage.

I'm slowly coming out of the dog house. Hopefully I won't put myself into it again for a while. I know I will at some point. Just can't win.

Nothing new on the train front. I did run the K5a a few days ago. I want to get a few other brass engines but that will just have to wait. I want a CN Pacific and a CP Jubilee. There is a nice J4e Pacific on ebay right now and a shop in Vancouver has a Jubilee. Now that I know there is a fellow in town who is a brass expert and can also paint them, I want to expand my roster. He isn't very young and if he isn't available then what. Just realized he is only about 5 years older than me. Guess I'm getting to the geezer category.

Time to get going.

It is a tasty treat Mike, thanks for commenting.  I sould write a small snack book with all the contraptions I came up with through the yearsLaugh

I was really bummed out when Dairy Queen discontinued their marshmallow sauce up here.  My custom favorite malt was a regular portion of bananas a regular portion of marshmallow sauce and one squirt of caramelDinner

That malt is the bombYes  Your picture of chili dogs with cheese just sold me on lunch!  I never stop for lunch at work either, it just makes me nappy and gets me home later.

You take that peel off the banana, slice it and put it on the peanut butter side. Then sprinkle some pecans on the marshmallow side and squish it all together

Now that sounds tasty!  Might have to try that.

With lunch being a large cup of high quality H2O, I can't wait to get home to chili dogs tonight!

See ya fellas!

Mornin',

Well still morning here in the Finger Lakes!  Someone mentioned not eating bananas due to high sugar content...  I have one banana at lunch every day (usually).  Looked up the specifics on them...

"People with diabetes can use the glycemic index (GI) to consider the blood glucose impact of a food type. This ranking system gives an idea of the speed at which certain carbohydrates boost blood sugar. Bananas are low-GI. According to the international GI database, ripe bananas have a GI score of 51.

Low-GI foods have a score of 55 or less. People with diabetes can enjoy them as long as they carefully consider portion size."

They don't seem to negatively impact my sugar levels.  My morning blood sugar tests around 100 and my evening one is under 110 every day.  Sometimes even lower, but rarely higher.  I am much more concerned about white bread and other processed carbohydrates.  Those I have pretty much eliminated in my diet.

Have a busy day today.  Got out to run 1.5 miles in the neighborhood (the uphill portion is getting easier!), have a gent coming over to look at the topsoil I want to get rid of at 1pm, and then have a podiatrist appt. at 3pm.  Hopefully the drizzle will hold off long enough for me to get two more times around the neighborhood in before dark...

Have a good one and stay safe out there!

My oldest daughter loved peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches.

From the time she was 5 until about twelve, I must have made 10 per week for her.

When I was in college (University of Florida, class of 1987), my first dorm (Murphree Hall) was across 13th Street from a bagel shop.

13th street in Gainesville, You MUST have eaten at Leonardo's!

I graduated from Cape Coral High School in 1985, and was accepted to the University of Florida. I wanted to go back to Gainesville so badly.

We could have been there at the same time if things would have been just a little different!

Peanut butter and bananas? My brother used to eat that on sandwiches. I never saw the appeal.

My favorite "banana" sandwich is plantains and honey on toasted and buttered whole wheat. That is yummy!

Good morning, everyone.  Another beautiful spring morning.  Bacon, eggs, and coffee, please.

Another day to work outside.  Part of a poured concrete section on the side of the house has gradually sunk over the years.  It now slopes towards the house.  I'm breaking it out today and will put in a new concrete section.

I haven't worked on the layout for a while.  I guess it will wait until summer when it gets too hot to work outside comfortably.

Bananas Foster is a New Orleans original, created at the Vieux Carré Restaurant.  The Brennan family is still a big restaurant family in the city.  Bananas Foster is not a favorite of mine.  I'd rather have a second main course instead of dessert.

Peanut butter and bananas?  My brother used to eat that on sandwiches.  I never saw the appeal.

Have a good day, everyone.

Did someone say...

When I was in college (University of Florida, class of 1987), my first dorm (Murphree Hall) was across 13th Street from a bagel shop. I got into the habit of going there every morning for breakfast. Cinnamon raisin bagel with peanut butter, a banana, and a chocolate milk. I would dip the banana in the peanut butter bite by bite. Still do that for breakfast now and then. (Minus the chocolate milk.) So put me in the column of people voting for peanut butter and banana.

The thing I like about bananas is they are salvageable if they sit around to long.  Unlike other fruit they never go to waist in our house.  Judy even said when they start to turn black on the counter that is the best way for them to be anyway.

Then she throws them in the freezer until a day she has time to make banana bread.  My favorite!  One of the few things I still put butter on.  You have to have butter on thatDinner

No bannanas for me. I don't like them at all.

Since I was introduced to Plantains, I really do not like the Cloned Cavendish Banana as much anymore. Way too sweet and mushy.

Sometimes the local markets will have different varieties of locally grown bananas, and those can be very good.

I still love Banana Nut Muffins!

Howdy ....... TH Coffee and an original TH donut, please. No bannanas for me. I don't like them at all.

My copy of June MR arrived Monday. I already ready some of it.

I am pleased to see my friend in Michigan, Dan Lewis, had an article published pertaining to his N-scale Milwaukee Road layout. He explains how he built a very large trestle. It was good of the editors to caution readers to use safety glasses when Dan said he used a Dremel tool.

Steve O .... I like the interior of the industrial bulding you made for the MR&T layout.

Also, I saw MR reviewed the Rapido RS18. If I were modeling CN in the 1970's, I would get the Rapido RS18 with Tempo cars for it.

I like the GN layout, also.

Kevin, I miss working in my own garage since I downsized. I guess that's why I always go out to my buddy Erv's garage. I go out there one day almost every weekend.

My garage was for wargaming, almost every Friday night!

That came to an end in 2012 when I took a new position and had to travel all the time. I am looking forward to doing it again.

Now that the Mustang and the Layout Segment are gone, there is room for a wargaming table again.

TOP OF THE PAGE: I am just sitting here wishing I could walk to the Cuban Restaurant down the road for a Tostada and Cafe Con Leche for breakfast, but they are still closed.

Personally I like Bananas somewhere between Green all over and rock hard and Completely black on the outside and rotten on the inside.....  Kind of medium, I guess.

Not necessarily so in nature, Ray, as I found out. On one of my w**k stints in Fiji, there was a banana palm outside my room, with the top of the tree level with the balcony, and I had been following with interest the development of several bunches of bananas. I later found out that they were a variety of “Lady Finger Bananas” but at the time I was waiting for them to turn yellow, so I could sample them. Due to some late w**k nights, and to my annoyance, the bananas went from green to black in a couple of days, and so I thought I missed my opportunity for free ripe bananas.

A couple of weeks later the Chief Pilot invited me over to his house to have a weekend off, and his wife asked me if I would like caramelised bananas and ice cream for dessert, and if so, would I mind helping prepare them while she and her husband were preparing the main course. I didn’t mind but was slightly aghast when she gave me these black skinned Lady Finger bananas to peel. Expecting rotten bananas, I was surprised to find reasonably firm white flesh and on announcing my surprise, was told to try one.
This may sound stupid, but it was the most bananarest banana I’ve ever eaten, YUM!! I sadly explained how I had not touched the bananas outside my room cos they had gone black so quick, whereupon the Chief Pilots Wife laughed and said that it was only because I was used to artificially ripened bananas back home! Oh well, a lesson for next time, if there is a next time.Sigh

Bananas Foster is the only way to go.

I had Bananas Foster at a dinner at the Royal Canadian Military Institute in downtown Toronto. That was more than 50 years ago! I still remember it as one of the best desserts I have ever tasted!

My father, being retired military, was a member of the Institute. The occassion was a presentation about the Napoleonic Wars and it was fascinating.

I think the birding on Pelee is going to be difficult this year - no room to social distance. Do birders jostle back and forth and ruin each others pictures like bad train watchers?

Birding at Point Pelee will be impossible this year because all the parks are closed until further notice.

Birders are generally a pretty polite group of people. I have never seen a situation where people were trying to elbow each other out of the way. Usually what you get, in the Canadian manner, is permission to go first.

We put out the oriole and hummingbird food today. Of course, that means we are getting snow by the weekend!Bang HeadGrumpy

Tomorrow I will move all the stuff to the other side of the garage and start the second wall.

What fun.
