Well here is another effect of this stay at home thing... it is 2:30 AM, and I am up cooking meatloaf to last us the rest of the week!

That is not normal for me.

Very sad news about John Prine. I just saw him perform a few weeks ago in Tampa.

Meatloaf?  Boss made that one time about 40+ years ago.  Closest we came to divorce.  I hate that stuff.  A waste of good hamburger.

Maybe you've never had good meatloaf.  If you use crappy ground beaf, you may get a crappy meat loaf.  I discovered some years back that Black Angus ground beef makes a really good meat loaf!  Big Smile

In fact I used to make hamburger patties out of generic ground beef and they were not so good.  Then I got Black Angus ground beef and what a differnence!  Much better.

 I think so., Meatloaf is one of my favorite meals. I WISH it would last all week, but it disappears reather quickly around here. Especially good the next day cold. I used to always get sliced meatloaf at the deli and make sandwiches with it. I don't think I've met a meatloaf I didn't like (never met the singer - hopefully he's a nice guy).

Unfortunately, no meatloaf in the near future - GF went to the store yesterday for a few things, a small pack of burger meat was $15. Nope. 

 I have had meatloaf with Angus beef, but I find it just as good with plain ground beef. It's all in what you put in - and to me, the simpler the better. These crazy versions with as much 'extra' stuff as meat, I don't think I would like those.

 Damn, now I am hungry for meatloaf....

Meatloaf?  Not now, not ever, never.  It’s a consistency thing for me.  If I found myself with my arm trapped by 10 pounds of the stuff, I think I’d chew my arm off to escape.

Cold meatloaf sandwiches have always been a family-favorite in my household - especially growing up.  (I actually prefer it to hot meatloaf.)  Sliced thin and layered between two slices of good crusty bread with mayo and ketchup - Mmmmmm. Dinner  

A few years back my wife & I ran across a restaurant in western PA that actually had a cold meatloaf sandwich on the menu. Surprise  To this day that's the only eating establishment I have ever seen one offered.

Great!  Now I'm hankering for a meatloaf sandwich, Randy. Sad

Meat loaf fan here, too.  For leftovers, I used to cut it up and serve it over noodles, or make hot meat loaf sandwiches.  Diabetes rules those out.

I actually prefer fattier ground beef for burgers.  I always grill them outside, and the extra day melts out and gives a crispy outside, sort of like a well-marbled steak.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Don't like meetloaf but wife loves. Just got up a bit ago, surprised I slept at all as I slept alot yesterday which is not like me, 6hr and that is enough. Much be more bored than I thought. Laid more track yesterday and first thing on list is pull the pins on that and test. Last peice to go before I have a loop. This last peice will be hard as decisions about the bridge suports have to be made (I hate redoing stuff).

I agree.  After a few times of buying 90% or 93% ground beef, I went back to the 80% meat.  That extra fat makes the burger taste much better (to me).

We have mostly in the winter, you know the oven on, warming the kitchecn, comfort food, etc.  But I'll eat it anytime.

And the choice and qaulity of the beef is the #1 consideration.  Back when I was growing up, mom made a tight budget work by adding crushed saltines, to stretch the meat a little.

The local store/butcher market we shop at has the meat down to a science.  It's the best.  All top choice angus beef, just enough fat so it doesn't dry out.

My son makes a version with venison burger, and a bit of sausage with it.

Cold meatloaf sandwiches are great.  There are restuarants that have it on the menue.

Kevin, just how much meatloaf does it take to get you through a week?  I mean, everyday? meatloaf? Laugh

Judy makes a mean meatloaf.  Salteens, Lipton onion soup, shreaded cheddar and swiss cheese, erbs and spices and painted with ketchup shortly after it comes out of the ovenDinner

When this thread started two weeks ago, I figured that it would be locked and gone in a heartbeat. But, then, Steven Otte declared it, in effect, Diner II, a second designated off-topic thread. Now, I find myself on the outside looking in, so I have decided to join the fray. Laugh

How has this virus affected me? Well, I'm locked up in my house, no golf, no sports on TV, wife spends all day ordering groceries for pickup only to receive half of what she ordered while I watch CNN and AHC, work Sudokus, and work on my new layout. This in-house isolation is starting to cause me to dislike model railroading because what used to be a diversion has now become an essential activity. Oh well.

By the way, I love Meat Loaf.

I remember my mom saying that I should eat meatloaf because there were people in the old country going hungry.  Probably because they didn't like the stuff either.

Possibly we could leave meatloaf on our doorsteps.  Maybe that would poison the virus.

Cuzin Vinnie is going to take a dim view of the meatloaf discussion.  Ever since I actually made it for myself and realized how the grease settles in the bottom of the meatloaf, I stopped eating it. 

Kind of bummed today that the Maryland numbers went up a lot.  The Governor said 30% was due to old test results that just came back, but it's still a big jump. 

My neighbor is getting new siding and windows today.  Storm damage and they couldn't match the old siding.  The original Tyvek was installed with the seams facing upward and there were areas of no Tyvek.

We have the same cheap windows and I had to replace the piece that attaches the spring sash to the window yesterday.  Fortunately my neighbor had all the parts and tools.  Not a fun project with a bad rotator cuff.

Day 10 of house arrest for me.

Ah Meatloaf, I love meatloaf. Especially the one served at a high end restaurant here. It is made from really good beef and is delicious. Besides it isn't very expensive at lunch. They serve it with really creamy mashed potatoes and gravy. I'm sure my arteries love it. 

We are on day 8 of lockdown. My wife says we aren't going out until the food runs out so I estimate in about 2 months. She is really worried and now says social distancing isn't enough. We need to avoid the 'vortex' behind people outside, preferably about 50 feet. I guess we won't be going for walks even just around the neighbourhood. It is really becoming a strain. I'm basically living in the basement. 

Luckily we don't have a lot of cases in our province, only 4 new ones today.

Day 10 of house arrest for me.

The official start date in WI was March 24, so it's day 16 here.  About a week before the official word, some places were already beginning the shut down on their own.

Most (especially bars) waited until the official notice.  It will be interesting to see if some may never come back, but I read that there are relief packages for small businesses.

The podiatry practice the wife works for started slowing down the week of 3/16.  They usually had about 50 or more patients a day through the office, now it's down to 10 or less.  Wife is called back for work May 5.  We'll see.  She's a certified PA, and a state licensed nail tech., and primarily does routine cares.

I have made great strides in purging my office of outdated files and paperwork.  I actually have one empty file cabinet! 

The wife jokes (I think she's joking Confused) about me doing the same in the train room.  Laugh  Fat chance of that happening Mischief

Nah. I'm not that much of a stickler. I'm happy to let this become Diner II for the duration. The two things I will police vigilantly are discussion of coronavirus "facts"/treatments/numbers/government response, and violations of other Forum rules (like no politics, no attacking or ridiculing other members, etc.). Other than that, we're all good.

A proper meatloaf requires more than just ground beef as the meat portion, otherwise it's just beefloaf.

Meatloaf should consist of at least two types of meat - my mother made it with ground beef and ground pork, pulverized saltines, ketchup and a few other things.

Then she cooked it until it was about as dried out and hard as a brick, but that's another discussion.

But boy, do I miss her potato salad!
