I don't care about the house. It's all that green grass! I'm not used to seeing anything green for another month.

Water Level RouteHad a late night with my oldest daughter last night. She has herself wound tight as a drum with worries a 15 year old thinks are monumental.
I raised three daughters, and I have no great parenting advice.
However, I found the best parenting tool when they were stressed over school/friends/boys was the car.
I would toss them in, and drive to Orlando or Miami, anywhere three hours away will do the trick. Then we do something fun for a couple of hours, shop, mini-golf, or whatever. Then we drive home.
Somewhere along the way we start laughing, and all the problems seem to be less of a matter. This always seemed to fix the world for a while.
Then Taylor Swift wrote this song, and everytime I hear it I cry.
The second verse contains everything I know about raising girls.
I miss my girls so much.
Living the dream.

Another father of three girls here. Agreed!
We got through everything, and they are doing well.

A bit of background here
My family and extended family are loaded with medical professionals, me I have trouble spelling, but I know a lot of people in the med biz, my wife is an RN with over 30 years experience, so I am not blowing hot air here. A nurse has one of the most strong immune systems, they have been exposed to al most everything. So if the nurses start getting co ncerned then you need to pay attention. So what scares nurses? Not this Cronea Virus or h1n1 but bedbugs will bring out the hasmat suits in a New York Second. Unless you have respitory problems or in otherwise poor health you are probably ok. But if you get your jollies woring about the flu well have fun. FYI I almost never read this thread and even post even less, so dont expect any reply

If the nurses in your area have no concern with the Cronea [sic] virus but bedbugs are the hot button issue, please let us know your locale.

Well, good for you! I'm soooo happy for you! And thank you for stopping by and letting those of us that do post in here, know EXACTLY how you feel!

Work and Corona Virus Scare. This may just do the company in. In 3 days I only had $180.00 in sales? I think things are getting blowen up way out of proportions. I could be wrong, but my gut says no. It is something new so the messes are afraid of it! Remeber the Bird Flu, it was going to kill everyone! I blame the media qust for rattings!
I get the run on spary disinfectant, hand wipes and hand sanitizes. But a run on Toilet Paper? Does the Corona Virus cause the run's? While I perfer not to run out of T/P paper, I have soap and a shower so what is the big deal!
Tax refund I filed last Friday and today I saw a state income tax refund in my checking account? Dang that was fast!
Dirk Pip new trick. OK 3 days ago he was sick as a dog, hum seems fitting with him being a dog. He would not eat Sunday or Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday he will only eat if I am with him? Had food on the floor all day and would not touch it. I get home, walk him and sit by his food bowel, he will eat.
My wife call's Dirk, he comes to me? I have to tell him to go to Mommy, then he will go to her. Hum.
Later Ken and Dirk say's Woof, Woof.

York1I don't care about the house. It's all that green grass!
Ah yes, the great thing about living in Florida, green weeds all year round!
I used to have grass, then there was a bad draught in the early 2000s, and everyones lawns died.
Now we all have weeds.
Its good to touch the green green weeds of home.
I have a Madagascar Palm, and two Crape Myrtles in my front yard, specifically because even in Florida they will lose their leaves in the Winter time.
That is the only way I can keep track of seasons.
The Mohogany Trees are strange. They will drop all their leaves in about a week at the beginning of Summer, and immediately grow them all back with the most bright light green leaves you have ever seen. It looks plastic.
Maple Trees are evergreen down here, but they will not produce any syrup.
Good Morning All,
A regular to go please Zoe. I have drifted in and back out of the diner a few times last couple of days but been busy enough that I haven't stayed or posted.
Got my physical yesterday and sent my approved competition license paperwork in so that is done and dusted.
We have enough clusters of the flu around the area that we haven't seen any sanitizing stuff on the store shelves for a couple of weeks. I think if you are reasonably cautious you should be ok. The thing that freaks people out is the lack of real information and the prevalence of out and out false information. Some things seem over reactions but until we all understand more about the facts erring on the side of caution is ok to me. Travel outside the country seems to have been a trigger for most of the clusters of illness we have around here (all New England is urbanized and even the 'burbs are closeish). We shall see. In the meantime we can only trust that test kits and responses if needed are being planned properly. There is a happy medium I think between ignoring it all and blind panic. None of our race meetings have been cancelled or postponed yet so we shall see how this all goes. Have a good one. Ciao, J.R.

Good morning, everyone.
It's a beautiful morning outside. I was able to walk the trail, but I did have hooded coat and gloves on.
The robins are going nuts fighting and chasing each other -- establishing territory.
Still working on a grain elevator for the layout. Once it's done, I think I need to reorganize how I store things and how I work on things. I don't have much room (wife allows part of a guest bedroom for this), and I'm tripping over myself. When I started my first layout two years ago, I didn't realize that storage and work areas are just as important as the layout itself.
Don't lick any public handrails or kiss any coughing strangers in the stores.

I don´t intend to!
The world has gone nuts and crackers over the virus! I start to believe it´s a giant hoax!
Off to something more pleasant! Remember Dave Vollmer´s beautiful N scale PRR Juniata Division layout? Well, Dave has built a new layout since he retired from the US Air Force. It´s a very nice little HOn3 layout based on the RGS in Colorado!
My stuff!
Stay safe!
Happy times!

There are actually a few large billboards I drive by here advertising bedbug removal services.
I have no travel plans for a while and I'm glad.

Ed .... Thanks for sharing this video. It brings back memories. I worked for GTW RR as a business analyst in the 1970's and 1980's. We did a lot of work with GM Logistics. I recall seeing Cadillacs loaded into the containers shown at the Detroit assembly plant.
GTW served the following GM assembly plants: Oldsmobile in Lansing. Pontiac Motor Division in Pontiac. GMC Truck in Pontiac. Chevy Truck (small trucks) in Flint.
Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs were shipped on tri-levels. Chevy pickups and suburbans were shipped on bi-levels. GMC big trucks were shipped on saddleback flat cars.
As an analyst, I calculated costs associated with various prototype enclosed multi-level cars being proposed at the time. Southern Pacific favored the container cars in the video. I recall an experimental enclosed flat car that was tested to haul the GMC motor homes (Remember them?) produced in Pontiac. Southern Railway had an articulated, three section enclosed tri-level that was tested with Oldsmobile in Lansing. Several designs for end doors for enclosed multi-levels were tested. By the end of the 1970's, railroads and GM Logistics agreed on the type of enclosed multi-level which continues to be used to this day.
I recall all multilevels were assigned to specific assembly plants. Vehicles were shipped to the destination, and all empty multi-levels were returned to the assigned assembly plant. The result was a lot of wasteful empty railcar miles. I worked on a project with GTW and CN for two-way hauls between Lansing and a GM assembly plant near Tornoto. It saved money for the railroads and GM. Eventually, all railroads pooled the multi-level cars to reduce empty railcar miles. When a multi-level was unloaded at a destination, it would be sent to the nearest assemply plant to be reloaded.
Later, I was transferred out of Automotive Marketing for other work.
Information you probably don't need to know. LOL

I agree, Ulrich!
Garry, your experiences are very interesting, and great pictures, too. There are a lot of auto carrier cars coming through Nebraska on the UP.
Kevin, last night I noticed the same thing with the quote button on certain threads. You could not insert a quote. This morning, it's working fine again.
Good ol GM. they made Conrail raise all the bridges between Tarrytown and Albany to clear the tri level car carriers and then a year after the project was finished, they closed the Tarrytown, NY plant and left eveyone hanging.
Heartland Division CB&QEd .... Thanks for sharing this video. It brings back memories.
Glad you liked it, Garry. No one can deny the close ties the railroads had with North American auto manufacturers.
Looking at your photos of the Flint output made me long for my old GMC:

I wonder if two-tone paint will ever make a comeback? Remember when you could choose from dozens of interior colors, too? Today you get your choice of charcoal, charcoal, or graphite black.
GMTRacingGood ol GM. they made Conrail raise all the bridges between Tarrytown and Albany to clear the tri level car carriers
I recall back in the late NYC or early P-C days when a freight was re-routed somewhere near Toledo, Ohio, and a few auto racks with Cadillacs had the tops cut off due to low bridge. I'll have to do some digging for that one .
The crocuses have bloomed here despite cooler temperatures.

"All of the world's problems are the result of the difference between how we think and how the world works."
My favorite pick-up truck was the 1972 Cheyenne 350. Two tone, medium metallic blue and white. I had her when I worked the Docks in Voyagers National Park.
Now, I think I was the only one on the lake that never hit a deer or even came close. The truck got the muffler rust flu years before. It got pretty serious
You have to be careful about that in Minnesota ya know. There's lots of salt on da roads up dare. If you don't wash your undercarriage often, you could very well be infected too
Everyone knew when I was coming down da road, way before I got dare, even da moose and da deer got out of the way
The Bears usually cleared the dump when I got dare with da garbage run ya know
I love old school pickup trucks! The older the better applies as the oldest ones had the most character
Had puppies last night (C-section), only two. Needed five to break even so these two cost about $7000.00 a piece at this point. I get trains the wife gets puppies, I'll take the trains.
Water Level RouteGeez Kevin, thanks for the tear jerker! I've had the songs picked out for the Daddy-Daughter dance for when my girls get married for years now
My middle daughter and I danced to "Butterfly Kisses" at her wedding.
That was a bad choice and an absolute tear-jerker.

I am glad to hear it was not just me. It was strange, but it all seems working again now.
I always liked a good pup Brent. The pups look a bit young to be cute yet. I like the 3-4 week ones.
Mama golden retriever sure looks like a good ol dog. What's her name? She sure looks very happy and proud of her new pups.
Your wife's work is admirable. I'm sure you are proud of her as you should be.
For now let's get the Glenfiddich or the Glenlivet out and I'll toast one to the new pups and the lovely wife you have been blessed with. Just as I have been with my Judy
Cheers
Howdy ...
Looks like everything in the country is shutting down. Hopefully, this stops the spread of the virus. .... I pray none of you and nobody in your famlies is infected.
Brent .... Nice looking Mama Dog and Pups. Expensive, however.
Ed ... I like the GMC truck you had. I still have a Chevy truck purchased in 2002, and it never has any mechanical problems.
John / York1 .... Thanks for commenting about my Flint, MI pictures.
Everybody ..... Have a good night.

Evening all.
The Prime Minister has the dreaded virus, he is very fit so it is not slowing him down although he is in isolation.
All our retired Doctor and nurse friends are being asked to re-register for emergency service. Once the hospitals get overwhelmed it will be bad news for those in poor condition to begin with. I am glad I am fit, they said if you are obese and can't do a flight of stairs without losing your breath, that is not good. They had a fit 75-year-old on the tube and having the disease has not slowed him down at all.
My wife's vet hospitals always were prepared for national emergencies in case they had to start dealing with people instead of pets and they are ramping up now in case they can't get the infection curve under control. The phone has been ringing for the wife and even though she is a Vet her vast knowledge crosses the human/animal spectrum. She has been retired for ten years and the phone keeps ringing. UC Davis in California is often on the phone.
The wife owns the dog in the pic but it lives with someone else and it and the pups have left here to go back home. The pups were spoken for some three years ago as the breeding was planned that far back to an Australian dog. I am not into the dog thing at all but the wife is not into trains, so all is right with the universe.
Looks like we may get both kids back from university as they will likely close things down. I told my son in Ottawa to just get to the airport fast, buy a ticket and beat the rush as soon as the news pops. That is his plan, I wonder if he will use his credit card or mine? I gave both my kids credit cards when they were about 12 years old for just such emergencies. They would travel with their school to competitions and I always wanted them to be able to pay for a flight home if need be.
The Italian medical service is officially overwhelmed. Spain often is rated as having the best medical system in the world, it will be interesting to see how they do.
Kevin, how much they asking for that house across the street?
I am talking with my cousin who has been in Hawaii for the past ten weeks and told her to stay there and spend the end in paradise. She is trying to change her flight.
Her daughter is a senior virology Doctor in England and has not been home in days with this epidemic.
The old lady who's affairs I was looking after passed away yesterday at 98. She was quite well off as the sole survivor of her wealthy East Coast U.S. family. This market crash has cost her estate seven figures. I will delay as long as possible to liquidate her holdings as even a modest recovery means a lot of money for the beneficiary. I am unable to just pass on the assets due to circumstances. The closing of her house sale was two weeks away and now that is a real mess with her passing. Ten prime acres bought by a developer for a subdivision. With the economy going into recession the deal may fall through, though at this point he is happy to wait for the estate to be settled. He owns some 40 acres surrounding the property so it is an important piece of his plans.
I have a whole lot of work to do tomorrow on this so I think I'll hit the hay early tonight.
All the best to all.
Nice return toast Brent!
Never didn't get a clink to my glass...Now I didn't.
Much!
Sorry TF, I was talking to 5 different people all at the same time.
Cheers.
I will be stocking up on the GL soon as I have to go to Seattle to look after estate stuff.
