Good Morning All,
Same deal here in Connecticut. Quiet and only a third of the traffic on the highway. All restaurants and bars closed and the local Stop and Shop will open an hour and a half early so we "over 60's" can shop before normal opening time. I will probably take advantage of that only because they normally do the major restocking then so I might find everything I need.
Didn't do much last night on the layout but did start to reroute the road into the yard so I can use the circuit board as a track crossing road (not sure what I'll do with the other end - I'll leave that for later). This is the first layer of dirt and rock.

Back to the shop. Ciao, J.R.
Yeah the neighborhood has been quiet around here as well, and it is a self thing not a curfew. They have closed the bars and restaurants but most have pick up service still.
Treet was a knock off of Spam made by Armor meats. I don't think I ever had Treet.
Stay safe all.
Good Morning!
I woke up and had a strange sensation. It was so unusually quiet outside, not a car on the road, no one to be seen. As if the world has come to a standstill!
Although not by law, we are effectively under a curfew, as there is hardly a place open we could go to. Train and mail services are drastically reduced. Petra went grocery shopping and the shelves are nearly empty. Dry goods, canned or frozen food as well as TP are not available. I can´t say we have plenty, but enough to keep us going for a week or so.
Stay safe!
Happy times!

I went outside on the back porch, and nursed a beer for about a half hour.
There was not any noise except for the buzz from the transformer and a few bugs outside for 20 minutes or so. Then I heard a lone Harley-Davidson off in the distance, and then quiet again.
I don't know why Covid-19 made everyone be so quiet, but it sure did.

Used corncobs can be re-used, after cleaning with a bleach solution and a stiff bristle brush, I would recommend rinsing at least once before using again.
Spam?? ever hear of Treet? No way could that be disguised as edible--That was the absolute last thing ever eaten on a fish boat. When we were reduced to eating that, the boat "headed to the Westard' with the bone in her teeth" no matter how much fuel and ice we had left.
Hoarding
In June of 1950 at the outbreak of the Korean War, my Mother hit the local PigglyWiggley, and HEB in Corpus Christi Texas, and cleaned out the sugar, flour, cocoa, bread yeast, lard, butter, and Crisco. Strong memories of what the family had just come through. Dad was impressed when he got home from the Navy Base that night. When he transferred to NAS Brunswick Me. in Nov. of 51 a fair amount of the leftovers came North as well.
Hooch/Food
No worries about either. Good for at least 8 months on the frozen stuff, and at least 5+ months for the smoked/dried fish/meats. At present working on another batch of silver rum. Fairly good idea as to what the fumes will do to any type of virus.
I believe I will refrain from licking any door knobs for awhile. Remember--single file, 3 yards between each man, keep moving, don't volunteer for anything, wash often, think it over first.
Hope all are staying in good health, prayers for those in need.

My wife and I have not left the house in three days now.
Mail that came today is quarantined in a box for four days.
Watching a lot of movies together on DVD. Not too bad really.
I made a huge pot of chili that should last us five days easily. Then I will thaw out a batch of Italian Sausage and make red sauce for pasta.
The neighborhood is very quiet. There has hardly been a bass-thumping drive-by in three days. No one is having loud parties. Usually on a Friday or Saturday you can hear a party in the distance outside... nothing.
Hardly any cars are driving by.
I could get used to this.
maxman Water Level Route I can't understand some of the stuff people are buying up. Neither can I. Just got back from the local ack-a-me and there is a limit of 5 on the purchase of Drano. What the heck are people hoarding that for?

When people run out of TP, they start using paper towels. When they run out of paper towels, they start using newspaper. It pretty much goes south in a hurry from there. Hence, Drano.
That's why the little old ladies elbowed their way into hoarding all the TP at Wally World and Target.
Happy days.
Robert

I follow someone who I went to school with for 12 years. I wasn't particularly close to her but I talked to her at our 25th reunion (25 years ago) and she said there were some classmates who wouldn't give her the time of day.
One of her friends posted and her middle name was unusual and the name of a former colleague and next door neighbor. I contacted her and her father was the twin brother of my neighbor. Her uncle was possibly one of the best surgeons in the world. That is no exageration. Every move was purposeful and exact and he was fast. Everyone of his collegues held him in awe.

We went out to a brewpub for dinner, only to discover they were closing at the end of the night.
We left a huge tip for our friends who work there. They don't know where their next paycheck is coming from.
The real crisis is not in the hospitals, not in the stock market, but right in front of us, where honest, hardworking Americans are already having trouble making ends meet.
If you can at least go to a semi-closed bar or restaurant in your neighborhood, do it for some takeout. They will appreciate your business more than ever, and will deserve it.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Lord I would hate to run out of Drano, but it's much more serious than that.
Pennsylvania has closed the state liquor stores. This is a Prohibition that no one wants. Tom Hanks is out of the hospital. We just hit bottom of the fear factor.

I've still got boxes of duct tape and Visqueen from the last stockpile
I'll be self-quarantining in the basement, thank you.

I've never been to a nudist colony
I'm very interested in the idea of it if the population is just female and me
I could definitely slide down the banister clothed or unclothed I have a cup from my hockey days for the knob on the end of the banister
York1 Well, we knew about catching it from someone coughing, or getting it from a doorknob or railing. The headline seems to say there's another way to get sick:

Since I don't live in a nudist colony I guess I'm safe.
But if I do happen to visit one I'll be sure not to slide down a bannister unclothed.

Could be the healthy over populated anthill eventually it chokes itself out Theory
Many years ago at the science museum I seen the growth chart of the world population and the exploding rate of growth. It basically said mother earth will not be able to sustain its inhabitants in the near future
I will put my tinfoil hat on just in case though

Steven OtteSo, what did I miss?
Someone threatened to put Spam on the diner menu, you are back not a moment too soon.
You timed your surgery just right, they are stopping elective surgery at some hospitals. The governor closed bars, restaurants, gyms and theaters. He wants to open 6000 hospital beds. Some are probably existing unused spaces in hospitals, but to get to 6000 would mean opening the now long shuttered state mental health hospitals.
I'll bet they are full of lead paint and asbestos. They certainly don't have supplies, ventilators, staff. The police departments use them for tactical training. I can't imagine this dragging out through July, expecially when it seem to be controlled in South Korea and China.
Good Afternoon All,
Well, now we are not going to Sebring the end of the month or Long Beach after that. Sebring is still on but all the drivers cancelled and anyway the folks here were getting nervous about going on planes even half empty ones to get there. We still have to get our trucks back from where we parked them in Fla but that at least is doable.
Good to Steven O. back and well. Good to hear the rest of you are doing well also. Nothing much to report here though we are getting one employee tested so we may all be quaranteened soon but right now none of us have symptoms. We have adequate work here to keep everyone going and enough space between people to satisfy the social distance thing. All the schools and public places are shut down now along with resturaunts and bars as well. We shall see.
Been picking away at the train station and platform on the layout and if I can transfer some pics I will do so.

The layer of civilization is a rather thin one, which wears off quickly in times of a crisis.

I can't understand some of the stuff people are buying up. The latest one I heard was people concerned about having milk for the long run have started buying up baby formula. Consequently, the parents of babies that need it, can't get it. Ridiculous!

Germany is now closed and it is expected to stay that way for the next three months. Airports are being closed down, public transport services are limited, churches, mosques, temples and other places of worship are closed, sports arenas are closed, schools and universities are closed - just about everything is closed. Restaurants can only stay open between 6am and 6pm and must allow for a distance of a minimum of 5 ft. between guests. we are more or less under a curfew, as there are no places for us to go to. I am sure that one day we will have overcome that dang virus, but with our economy being frozen solid for 3 months, we will end up in an economic crisis, which will dwarf the Great Depression of the 1930s.
Ouch!
