How about a little light-hearted entertainment from Buster Keaton?

Some of his best bits — and several railroad stunts to boot.

For those that believe we modelers try to pack too much track into a given area:

Look at all the different sized box cars! And tucked in behind the carload of planking is an old PRR R7 refrigerator car.

Afternoon.....

Awe, Man!!!  I looked at the picture that Steven put up this morning, went and weighed myself, and I am up 2 lbs.!!!!!   Guess I shouldn't have eaten the whole virtual Box, huh?

Got up late this morning and jusr can't seem to get moving today.  I am trying to continue cleaning out some "STUFF" in the basement to clear out space down there.  Found some old historical family records.  Journals from the family faerm going back to my Grandfather and such.  Have no idea who in the family might want them.  My son is the only one with children that might keep the history going here.  Maybe my cousins in Florida???  Found my Father's old Music texts from Ithaca College back around 1930.  Also some history booklets about local history in the Canandaigua area.  I have sent an email to a classmate of mine who is now County Historian to see if he knows who might want some things.

Have a great day out there!

The paint scheme on Garry’s photo of Louisville & Nashville Alco C420 #1358 represents the 5th major iteration of diesel liveries applied to road switchers by the railroad.  It is known as the HGY-5 (Hood Confederate Gray Yellow) or “simplified” scheme by the L&N cognoscenti and was the last pure L&N paint job before the Family Lines scheme.  Incidentally, #1358 was originally built for the Seaboard.

The photo below shows Alco C420 #1309 in a much earlier paint scheme: HGY-2.  Note the skinny yellow (with black outline) L&N logo placed at the end of the long hood, the yellow mask over the short hood and the red Scotchlite reflective heralds.  These paint treatments were gradually reduced or eliminated entirely as austerity measures took hold in the 1970s.

Good Afternoon,

A cool 0F right now but it is sunny.

Garry, if you Google 'CNR K5a Hudson' a link to the site of the Elgin County Museum comes up and there are some great pictures of a real K5a they have on display there. I've been on that engine when I visited the museum a few years ago. CN only had 5 Hudsons that were built in 1930 for passenger use. They were fast with 80" drivers but couldn't pull much so they decided to stick with Northerns. Apparently they often ran at over 100mph. They are a very clean looking loco with an attractive green and black colour scheme. The vanderbilt tender is unique as it is round the whole length. Most were slab sided at the coal bunker.

Nothing planned for today. I too was wondering what Bear is up to. Perhaps he is on holiday as it is summer there. For some strange reason I have an image in mind of Bear water skiing. After all he is unique in being a NZ bear.

Coffee time again,

CN Charlie

My 64th will be on 24th. Might be a good reason to pull the trigger on a PRR GG1.

Ken, you might want to give some extra consideration to the GG1 on your layout. I have five of them and with my gentle grades and 32" curves they are still a little fussy to get the pilot trucks to track well. Just my 2¢ but I'd hate to see you set yourself up for more frustration.

I hope everyone is doing well —

Happy birthday, Eric.  Thanks for the donut -- I'll take the one glazed donut you have there!

Cold and cloudy today.  Just like every day for the past three months.  My wife is getting sunlight deprivation personality.

I am going to do my income tax today.  Since retiring, income tax is now a simple process.  What used to take me several days now takes several minutes.

Then, onto the layout.  I love working on the railroad.

Nice picture Gary.  I had to look for more.  Lots of images on Google, and the historical society has lots of info.

So many times we drove through the state, on our way to NC, but the only stops we made was for gas, or maybe a meal at a Cracker Barrel.

Sure is beautiful country!

Good morning .

CN Charlie ..... I'd like to see a picture of your K5a, but I dont think you post phtos. Perhaps you can tell us more about it.

Brent .... Evidently, I missed your birthday. I hope it was good.

Bear ???? .... Where are you ?

L&N had its hwasquarters in Louisville and operated over hundreds of miles of track in KY and other states in the Southeast. This is a pair of Alco C-420's. It looks like a low budget paint scheme with basic lettering over the primer.

Good Afternoon!

The sky has cleared and we actually see some blue up there. Until a few hours ago, we had a torrential ra*infall, leaving the meadow behind our house flooded. I am afraid it won´t stay nice and bright for much longer, more bad weather is on its way to us.

I wonder where the Bear has been hiding out lately, ... I kinda miss that guy

The Bear seems to have gone into hibernation. In New Zealand, bears apparently hibernate in the summer! His last post was on January 4th.

mobilman44´s last post was on Nov.10th of last year, so he is MIA for quite some time now.

Happy times!

Kevin, I'm not sure if you can see the section on the right called Users Online, but there is a guy in there, named Toolengineer, that looks like your older brother. Laugh

Mike.

PS. Never mind, a few minutes after I posted this, his picture is gone.  Oh well, I guess you had to be there.

Good Morning All,

A regular to go please. Still cleaning in the train room. Remeasured the area where I want to install a paint booth and it should be able to be cut out of one 4 x 8 now.

TF - I've noticed JaBears been missing too. Is he posting elsewhere and just needed a break from the Diner I wonder?  Also I notice more issues flying back home after being away to the west. Funny that way. You'd think waking up later would be easier.

Back to the wiring harness.    Ciao, J.R.

Good morning.

Black coffee please.  Vacation is officially over today,  it's back to wxxk for me, ... Yuck!

We seem to have some sort of jet lag since we returned last week,  tired all the time.  6:00 am, our normal wake time was 4:00 am in Nevada which made for some long days down there.  You don't just switch your biological clock overnight I guess.  Now we've been hitting the rack early but waking up at 4:00 a.m. here.

We only had one drinking night down there so I can't blame it on that.  Oh well, I'll roll with the punches and wake up completely one of these daysLaugh

It felt good to get back to some modeling this weekend.  I'm going to try to keep it going a few nights this week.  It's aways rewarding to finish something.

Make it a great day everyoneSmile, Wink & Grin

Good Evening,

Henry, I knew I had seen the name, Blaze Star, before and sure enough she is posed with Fleischmann trains on the back cover of the March, 1959 issue of Model Trains. Must be an avid model railroader, who knew.

Ken, glad to hear Dirk is feeling better. On occasion we have had dogs contract a gastric issue and a little pepto seems to help as well as a chicken(white meat only) and rice diet for a few days.

Not much new here. My K5a is running quite well. Think I'll buy a display case to store it in as I doubt I'll run it much. Even my wife thinks it is a very nice looking loco.

Going to get the spark plugs changed in my car next week. It will cost me $300 for that job. They don't even stock the plugs at the dealership and have to order them in. I checked on line and they cost about $25 each and have a resistor on each plug. The youtube video on doing them shows that job is beyond my skill level, not to mention not having the tools. Lucky new ones are only needed every 68k miles. I used to change my own on an '88 Lebaron  and did a set or 2 on a 318 that was in a '81 Lebaron I once owned. Sure is a lot more complicated now.

Today my wife told Robbie to 'Show Daddy where the food is' as his bin in the kitchen was empty. He ran ahead of me into the room where we keep it and stood in front of the bag. Sometimes that dog is a little spooky.

I didn't watch the Super Bowl, absolutely no interest. Some people up here watch it but it isn't nearly as popular as the CFL final which is the Grey Cup. Canadian football is basically the same as in the U.S. except that the field is 110x65 yds, 12 player teams, and 3 downs which means the game is more passing and kicking. Also I think the ball is a little larger but as I'm not much of a fan I can't tell you much more.

Well soon time to hit the rack as TF would say.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and give Dirk half a dog treat.

Really not a lot to talk about. Work was slow and read 180 pages of a Edward Marson book.

Dirk seems a little better today. He did have a accident in the house (I am pretty sure he intended to, you got to go, you got to go!) Laugh Then he pooped 2 times in our front yard for my wife! Big Smile To be safe tonight I walked him a quarter mile, no poop.

Brent Happy B-Day what date is your brirthday? My 64th will be on 24th. Might be a good reason to pull the trigger on a PRR GG1.

Later Ken and Dirk say's Woof, Woof.

I saw Blaze Star, in person, former consort of Gov Earl Long.  That venue was different than a TV show broadcast between 6:30 and 10:00pm.  My opinion is it was not appropriate for the numerous minors who where watching with their parents.

It seems I am very much in the minority for people who liked the halftime show.

Well, like I said earlier, I have the TV sound off, even for the game, and it's not my kind of music anyway.  Far from it.

Never was.  That's not good or bad.  Just my choice.

We are ALL allowed to like or dislike, as we choose.

Turned out to be a busy day today.  I did score a Craftsman 4 drawer tool box, in excellent condition for $30, and spent some time with my son, so all is good.

I much would've rather watched the Berliner Phil or for that matter, a high school string quartet!

That, I would have watched and enjoyed as well.

I could've done without the halftime show.

The only halftime show of recent that I did not like was Coldplay, but then, I really dislike Coldplay, so I doubt there is any circumstance where I would enjoy them.

.

I am glad that Shakira got as much time as she did. I prefer her to Jennifer Lopez as a stage performer, but Jennifer Lopez is a solid actress.

Hi Everyone,

The Kansas City Chiefs won the super bowl in a really good game.  I really enjoyed it.  I also don't think we've seen the last of these two teams.
One comment: I could've done without the halftime show.  I much would've rather watched the Berliner Phil or for that matter, a high school string quartet!
Louisville:  I've been told by locals that they pronounce it Louavul (Lou'avul).  The accent on the Lou and avul kinda trails off To where it sounds like Luvul.

There is a place in Eeastern Kentucky called Cumberland Falls.  Not as dramatic as Niagara, but still, very beautiful.  Worth seeing.

Less is more,...more or less!

Well what do you know... It seems Butcher Holler is in Kentucky, that is where Loretta Lynn is from, and where she is singing about in Coal Miner's Daughter.

.

I thought for sure she was from Virginia.

.

There is a lot of talking in this version.

I'm not worried for me, my wife or my kids as we are all in good shape. We have four seniors in the family, three in their eighties and one 98 years old. I fear they may not do as well. The last flu outbreak we had my friend lost both parents within two weeks of each other. Being an only child with no other family it was really tough on him.

We all know how well we do when we get sick and this is just another flu as far as I am concerned, if I was still working I doubt I would even miss a day if I got sick.

BATMAN
It is chartering aircraft to return Canadians from China that are stranded there.

The German Government did that 2 days ago. We now have 12 reported cases in this country, 6 from one company having a manufacturing site in Wuhan. Currently, there are 17,493 identified cases, out of which are 17,308 cases in China, a further 126 cases in other Asian countries, 11 in the US, 4 in Canada and the rest mainly in Australia and other European countries. The increase in cases seems to slow down. 362 people have died so far, 361 in China and 1 in the Philippines.

I am not the least bit worried. We had an outbreak of influenza in southern Germany, which has killed already over 40 people, and there has not been any news coverage on that.

Good afternoon

La Grange, Kentucky is a good place to watch CSX trains with its track on Main Street. It is about 20 miles northeast of Louisville. I took this photo while eating at a very nice restaurant. #544 is a trailing unit of a freight train.

The following photos of La Grange are on the internet.

Good morning from a snowy West Coast, it is 2c with about 3cm of snow on the ground and they are saying we should get 20cm tomorrow.

The Canadian Government is taking this coronavirus more seriously as it spreads. It is chartering aircraft to return Canadians from China that are stranded there. They will be put into quarantine upon their return. 15% of all cases go to the critical stage, however, if you read the fine print it is smokers, asthmatics and people already in poor health that end up in the critical tent. Another reason to look after yourself. When the flu goes through a professional sports team they still get out and play even though they are unlikely to win.

Wearing a mask does not help in fending off the virus, though it will help you from spreading it if you are sick. Hand sanitizer has no effect on the coronavirus, however, washing with hot water and soap will greatly reduce the spread. When I was in Vegas, the people that walked out of the washrooms without washing was quite something. If ever there was a great place to spread disease it would be Las Vegas. Lots of people were wearing a mask while we were there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUrvVkVPXHM

It was my birthday while we were down in Vegas and I came home to a stack of birthday cards and bottles of wine and a few other goodies. I ended up with $525.00 in PWRS gift certificates from various people. Between Christmas and my birthday, I am close to a $1000.00 in the last month or so. I will probably end up with that much again by the end of the year. My mother-in-law bought me one and she said the nice lady at PWRS said no one else even comes close to getting as many gift certificates as Brent does.Laugh I will use them for a couple of Rapido ten wheelers and/or I am still looking to pick up a BLI Pacific.

Had the Super bowl on for a while, but we had a crowd in for dinner so didn't really watch it. Saw a bit of the halftime show, not my kind of entertainment but it didn't bother me. I am of the opinion people like all living things on the planet need to eat and breed for the species to survive, somewhere in history, rules needed to be implemented for the sole purpose of controlling the masses and anything to do with sex was one of those things targeted and people were programed and told what to think when they should have been taught how to think.

I really admire the athleticism you see in all sports but for the sole purpose of not wanting to spend my life in front of the idiot box, I just follow hockey.

Feeling a little off today so may wander into the train room and start that new kit I got out before we left, at least read the destructions.Laugh A walk in the snow for a few kms will be on the agenda no matter how crappy I feel.

They finally finished hammering on the house construction going on across the road. As this residence is nearing completion, I am not finding it any less ugly. It looks like they are getting ready to pour the driveway.

.

.

It is so beautiful outside today, this is just magnificent weather. It is in the high 70s, there is no humidity, and not a single cloud to be seen in the perfectly blue sky.

.

My two other cars do not seem to miss the Mustang at all.

.

.

Take care. I hope everyone is enjoying Superbowl Monday.

TOP OF THE PAGE! Today I am just drinking bottled spring water. Feel free to help yourselves. It is ice cold and refreshing. Just what you need on a day like this.
