I've never met any of you, that I could probably meet you and talk like old friends over a beer or two

That's how it was whenTrack Fiddler visited me last summer. It was fun!

Terry

And I will visit you again my friend.

Good Times last Summer running your beautiful layout built by you.

I have to say it was impressive.  I had a great time.

I found the round house with perfect directions.

We are going to pick a bright sunny day weekend in the summertime after this spring.

I'm going to bring up the mach 1.

You will drive it and show me your beautiful Lake surroundings.

We will have some more running time on your beautiful layout too.

If you take their wealth away from them, you take their ability to help others in the way that they do.

Gee, all I said was I don't like to send stuff to people who already have enough.  I have no problem with those who have a large share and have several friends myself who are "Well Blessed".  I did not say I think they should lose their wealth, just that they already have enough....  I was refering more to the greed of some who never think they have enough and don't help others (there are many of those as well). At least that is what I intended.

I still don't like to give my $$$ to those who abuse their position and think they can treat others poorly.  That does not include all people who are wealthy!  I am very glad for a multimillionair heiress who sends me a check for the MLK Scholarship fund for $10,000 each year.  She likes to go by the name of Anonymous....  Good people come in all sizes, shapes, colors, and sizes of bank accounts.  Just like bad people.

I certainly did not intend to create a problem here at the site.  I suggest we end the subject so that Mr Otte won't have to do a lot of cleanup here on Monday!Sigh

Before we start throwing stones at rich people you better see where you fit in on this chart and be prepared for incoming projectiles.

Image result for world income chart

I know two billionaires, not good friends but if I ran into them in Tims we would likely sit and have coffee together. I just looked to see how much they are worth. The guy I met through working with disabled athletes and wounded warriors in sledge hockey is worth 7.4 billion and the other I met through work is worth 5.6 billion according to the internet and compares to other sources I have read. Both these guys have given 100s of millions to society over the years and the guy worth 5.6 billion is leaving everything to the betterment of society when he dies. They both live in very modest middle-class homes and drive Chevys.

I would have them in my home anytime and must admit I am somewhat offended by what you say about them. If you take their wealth away from them, you take their ability to help others in the way that they do. I know some pretty scummy poor people but would never call all poor people scummy.

Hello again.

It was a trying last day at wxxk.  My custom doors came in and I picked them up this morning.

This is an old house and the finished opening for the entry door height was an inch and a half too short.

I'm not real fond about cutting special order custom doors to make them fit..... Nervous Nellie.  Then after you cut the bottom of the door off you got to recore it.  The floor was out of level a 1/2 inch from one side of the jamb to the otherSadTongue Tied  Then you got to cut the jam lengths at different heights.  This isn't my first rodeo.  I got that done.

The height of the louvered bi-fold door opening was an inch too short too.  The top of the opening was a half inch out of square in 3 feet.  I dealt with that one too and made it workPirate

Ain't my first rodeo and won't be my last...... now I got two and a half weeks off!

I'm hanging up my Carpenter belt for a while and buying you guys a beerYesSmile, Wink & Grin

Ken,  I'm buying you two.  I know you appreciate that as I will.  I'll have two with you.

The carpenter's in the house.

Is your Deaconship mail order?? Over the years I have arrested several members of the clergy for some really rotten behaviour. And??

LOL, ah.... No!  I was elected to the Board at my church and served in active positions for 9 years (once a Deacon, always a Deacon).  I was "Moderator" (Person who leads the meetings) of the Board for 5 of those years.  In my denomination we are not considered "Clergy" but rather trained helpers.  We visit the sick, staff many functions, and can actually do services or take communion to shut ins or hospitalized members if/as needed.  There is a bit of training nessessary for the position.  I led worship quite often in various churches as the director of a youth musical group supported/sponsored by the Presbytery.

Hopefully my behavior is in line with both my church, my ethics, and the law!!!Whistling

But how does it help the poor to put down the rich?

Hi Brother Lion.....  I guess I take my lead from the old story of Dives and Lazarus.  Do know you are speaking with an ordained Deacon.... Whistling  Lets just say I know of some very rotten things done locally by a Billionaire near where I am.  I'll leave it at that.

Yahoo!!

I just got home from my last day at wxxk.  It feels really good that I'm off for two and a half weeks.

I always enjoy Winter Break.  Last year we went on a big road trip vacation touring the South.  This year we have a couple family gatherings so we're going on staycation.

I sure am looking forward to taking a break from hard labor and doing some relaxing craftsmanship for a change.  Time to dust off the Model Railroad and get at it againYes

Judy just handed me a Christmas card from a friend in Florida a few minutes ago.  It put a big smile on my faceSmile, Wink & Grin

I once was on a flight from London to Rotterdam, the aircraft being one of those smallish Avro RJ85s. Shortly after take off, the captain came through with an announcement asking for our understanding, that no food or drinks will be served during this particular flight. Yep! It was some ride! I was the only one onboard not sick!

I've only been sick on a plane a couple of times, but it wasn't the flight as much as the previous evening's festivities.

Once though, the flight was so rough I looked around and located the emergency exits.  We came in and aborted the landing, they temporarily closed the airport for weather, and we went somewhere else.  After an hour, the front went through and we flew to the correct airport.

I was on the clock all that time, and my beer at the intermediate destination was on the expense account.

My friend in Gilbert, AZ, called last night and told me about the railway museum there that had an open house. I think the museum is in Chandler. There are quite a few private cars parked there, and most of them were open to walk through. He was so excited, and said I MUST come there next year for the open house. It's sounds like that's really something to see.

The Arizona Railway Museum is a pretty amazing place. The next open house is scheduled for leap day (2/29) next year. Going during the open house is the best way to see the trains. It is open other days, but most of the trains are closed to the public.

I can't either, I just wish they (along with millenials) would look up from their phone once in a while, especially while driving.

.

I was surprised to find out how old the Millenials have grown. Some of them are knocking on the door of their 40s now. Generation Z is starting college.

People were upset, but I remarked that the next day they would be waiting on line for an hour at Disney to take another ride just like it.

.

And what fun they were having the next day!

.

They must have arrived at Walt Disney World early to only need to wait an hour in line!

I tend to care about those who are the ones who have little because of the others in this world....

As do I. And why should they not have more? Everyone should be well off in this country, and for the most part they are. But how does it help the poor to put down the rich?

Let the rich be rich, that does not hurt me at all.

Our monastery spends over $30,000 a year for the relief of the poor. Some directly and some to support other agencies.

Without the rich we would all be poor, and that helps nobody.

So she found a stolen named Winternacht Marzipan Stollen, a product of Germany.

That´s the one we had and it was absolutely d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s! Best In ever had, even beating the Christstollen from Dresden we had a few years ago, which cost us a fortune! The Aldi Stollen sold for the equivalent of $3,60.

Happy times!

Morning all, it is wet and windy today. Daughter got home yesterday and it was a rough crossing from Victoria, they would not let passengers go out on deck.

The Kid is almost home, TO THE BATMOBILE!

I can't bring myself to condemn kids' fads today, even though I don't necessarily like them.

I can't either, I just wish they (along with millenials) would look up from their phone once in a while, especially while driving. Indifferent

I used to classify stollen right up there with fruit cake, as they always seamed hard or dried out, no matter who's grandma made it.

That changed this week when the wife went to an Aldi grocery store.  We usually don't go there much, but she wanted a German made stolen.  So she found a stolen named Winternacht Marzipan Stollen, a product of Germany.

I have now acquired a love for stollen.  Whats hard to resist, is you pour a cup of coffee, and you immediately need a slice of stollen to go with it, no matter how many slices you've already had. Whistling

My train room is currently occupied by "Santa's Workshop", as I'm making a vanity, for our place up north, using reclaimed (barn) wood, along with a wood framed mirror on the medicine cabinet, and misc towel racks and sheving, all using the same wood, as a present to the wife.  Just about done, so I can clean up the mess and get back to trains!  Stick out tongue

Have a great weekend!

Mike.

York1 .... I have been to the AZ Railroad Museum in Chandler, and I like it.

Ed .... You posted interesting photos of the Maine narrow guage doodlebugs (or whatever they are).

We're busy getting ready for our trip to OH and MI. Leaving Sunday for a week.

Good morning.  It's cold out right now, but will warm up into the 40s today!

The forecast is warm, 40s, for Christmas, with no snow.  All the grandkids are upset.  They all come for several days for Christmas, and they don't get snow where they live.  They like to sled when we get a white Christmas.  We'll have to find something else to do this year.

Fads and styles are funny.  When I was in college, I and everyone of my male friends had long hair, actually past our shoulders.  Add to that bell bottom ragged jeans, leather items, etc., and we were the picture of 1960s flower people.

All that ended when we graduated and got real jobs.

I can't bring myself to condemn kids' fads today, even though I don't necessarily like them.  I just remember how I must have looked to my parents when I came home from school back then.

Have a good Friday, everyone!  I've only been reading the Diner posts for less than a year, but I hope you guys know how much I look forward each day to reading this forum.  It's seems funny, since I've never met any of you, that I could probably meet you and talk like old friends over a beer or two.  Modern communication technology!

Those are great rail car photos. We had the same issues with light rail further south in Ct. with the Budd cars as they would tend to go to ground at snow/ice packed crossings in winter and also frequently not trip crossing signals. Despite that they carried on to the end of the New Haven as they were much less expensive to run both for maintainence and crew costs.

I think herd instincts are still hard to break and if we weren't all a little addled life would be boring.     Ciao, J.R.

Look at me, Look at me. The starvation for attention.

I never followed any of those crazy fads, but then I didn´t have to. When you are my size and have my voice (at least prior to my heart attack), then you were noticed, once you had entered a room of any size and space.

I also never had the desire to be "one of the pack". "The pack" just flocked around me. Petra tells me I am the prototype of an alpha male and fulfill all characteristics associated with the zodiac sign "Leo".

Meeow!
