My dad used to drink that,  also Hamm's, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Old Style, the list goes on and on.  I think he brought home whatever was on sale because it changed all the time.  All that old school brew was good enough for him and it's good enough for me. Don't get me wrong,  I prefer a better Import or rich bodied IPA hands down but that watered down domestic stuff is a perfect all day sipping beer.  Nothing better for a Football day with your friends..... Nobody ever seems to get too jacked

My father was the same way.  If one six-pack was a penny cheaper than another, he bought it.

My doctor told me I could have two drinks per day.  Never more.  I have two cans of beer a day.  I'm not a connoisseur.  I like it ice cold.  Cheap beer tastes just as good to me as expensive.  Pair that up with a good burger, and I'm happy.

Hey John,  I liked this one.  I had to share it with you.

It was my favorite birthday card this year from my mother-in-law in Northern Wisconsin.

It was an unexpected 64 degrees outside today.  We went out walking to try out our new binoculars, gifts from Santa.

This has been quite a month for food.  We still have one more event on New Year's Eve, but the last couple of nights I've at least kept my blood sugar under control.

We have a new favorite beer, called Custard's Last Stand.  It is smooth and creamy and brewed with coconut.  Normally, I don't care for specialty beers, but this is special, kind of like a piece of coconut custard pie.  We love local craft brews and often find ourselves at breweries and brewpubs.  No typical American soda-pop beers for us.  The last Bud I had in my hand was poured down the drain so I could recycled the can.

A navy man and a marine walked into the latrine.  After they finished thier business the navy man noticed the marine did'nt wash his hands.  The navy man said to the marine.

In the navy they teached us to wash our hands before we leave the latrine.  The marine said to the navy man.

In the marines they teached us not to touch anything or pee on our hands.

Good morning, everyone.  The grandkids and dogs are all up early this morning.   One more day and things will get back to normal as they all head home.

It's been raining all night.  If it had been a few degrees colder, we would have been snowbound this morning.  It's going to get icy and snowy this afternoon as the temps drop.

TF, that's a funny card.  Your mother-in-law must know you pretty well!

Have a good Friday, everyone, especially if you have to work.

Good Morning All,

Quiet day. I'll just have a regular in a togo cup please ladies. Saturday in the shop making radiators for the Lotus 18. I take from Christmas to New Years to do my own projects and if I get this knocked out I can get on with the next project. we make the radiators from aluminum prefab cores we get and then form the end caps and weld it all up. The 18 has the water radiator and then an oil radiator below from the same size matrix so there is a bit of fab work to do first.

Hope you all had a good Christmas - we got all the kids save the youngest who is in California now over in the morning and then went to my oldests' in-laws later in the day so it went quickly. Waiting on my brother in law who is up from Virginia to stop by the shop on his rounds.  Catch y'all later,   J.R.

Good morning.

My plans with my Brother are postponed this morning.  The whole city is an ice rink up here.  Cars spun out and racked up everywhere.  Judy's work was called off till further notice.

My Bro. called and said running to McDonald's this morning was a mistake.  What normally would have took 5 minutes took him over an hour and he never made it to McDonald's before he got back home.

It's supposed to warm up and start raining again.  I'll just have to wait it out.  Maybe later.

If I was going to go out in all of that mush for food, McDonalds would be one of the very last establishments on my mind. For Breakyfaste I would head to the BAKERY. Donuts, and buns, and crumb cakes. That is what I would go out for, otherwise I would stay home and have eggs and French Toast.

 Morning Diners

Flo, big cup of Coffee for the gang and I and Dirk half a dog treat.

Ed Our Lowes, Bank and the Library are pet friendly so we take Dirk with us. I am starting to rethink that program. Way I hold his lead it is very unlikely he would get away from me. The handle fits over my elbow, then I wrap it two turns around my forarm and hold the lead with my hand.

I thinking about contacting Parnters For Pets, the resuce he came from and see what suggestions they may have.

No argument from me there Lion.  My Brother's only 42 and can still get away with eating that crap.

I never did like McDonald's breakfast (GARBAGE).  I must admit, very rarely, I may grab a Big Mac.

I don't agree with making businesses in general pet friendly.  Restaurants with outdoor seating are fine, but do people really need a dog with them when they go to the bank?  My girlfriend has a large dog, and knows enough to leave him home.  The dog can be very unruly, particularly in the presence of other dogs, and it's just better to find a dog-friendly beach or trail to take him out.

Of course, here in Delaware we have establishments where dogs are allowed (no on-site food preparation) but children are not (alcohol but not food being served.)

24 oz steak is too big for me to eat.  But if you are going to it, go big or go home

That was in Calgary so it's cheaper in US$

I echo George Carlin's sentiments on handwashing and using the bathroom.

I have a friend who travels with a mastiff as a service dog.  I'm sure he does it just to avoid the hassle/expense of boarding his dog, although he probably has to pack a suitcase full of dog food.  Flight Attendants are starting to push back on the zoo that is now allowed to fly on planes as not all these animals are well mannered.

It is out of control here in Florida. The grocery stores have stations to clean up animal droppings. That is completely disgusting. Sensibility needs to take over.

Hey Brent!

How was the Glenfiddich last night.  I have always heard how good of scotch this is and I do believe I got to try it once many years ago.

That top shelf aged Scotch was always a little Rich for my blood.  You are lucky to have friends that will buy you one of those.  I was going to ask you to sip slow while I ran to the airport last nightLaugh

Maybe if a special enough occasion arises some evening.  I know myself all too well though.  The name of an old Pink Floyd song sums it up for me.  "Careful with that axe Eugene" Laugh

Well it appears this morning's icy roads have melted pretty good from the rain.

I'm heading out to my Brother's to check out his layout.  He models DWP with the main focus on Boise Cascade where we grew upYes

Good Evening!

I am glad Christmas is over. The older I get, the less I develop that "Christmas Spirit", which the retail business tells me I should have so they can feast on my wallet. Christmas has become way too commercial for my taste and I bet that a lot of people do not even know these days what we actually celebrate on Christmas day.

Am I turning into a grinch? Maybe!

I know pet lovers will hate me for this but I don´t think that pets should be allowed in banks, shops and restaurants. There are lots and lots of people around who suffer from various allergies caused by pet hair. I am for one show a strong athma-like reaction to cats, which hinders me to be anywhere near a cat, although I quite like them.

So, out of consideration for other folks - leave your pet at home!

Happy times!

Good Morning,

Another warm sunny day here in the GWN. It will get up to about 25F today!

As far as dogs in public goes, I don't mind dogs as long as they are well trained. In France, small dogs are allowed in most restaurants and the ones we have seen are usually under the table or sitting beside the owners chairs and not a peep is heard or unruly behaviour. In fact some places don't allow children but pets are ok. I don't have much tolerance for unruly, noisy kids and not much respect for the parents.

Ken, sounds like Dirk is trying to take over as leader of the pack and feels he needs to protect you. You have to always be the leader. We have a lot of experience with terriers who can be quite pushy. Even when you go out the door, you go first as you are the leader, then give Dirk permission to follow. If he barks to be fed, wait and then you decide when that time is to be. When you walk him, don't let him lead, he should be beside you or just behind. This is just the 'pack' thing. I assume he is neutered. If not, getting that done will likely help.

Having said all that our dog loves all people but gets really aggresive with other dogs, especially large ones. He was trampled by a large dog in an obedience class when he was a pup and ever since then sees large dogs as a threat. We have tried to train him out of it but after 10 years he still reacts when he sees a large dog. He is small, but being a terrier he thinks he can beat anything on 4 legs. Luckily we can just pick him up if we have to avoid a situation.

Glad Christmas is over. I know that sounds a little like Scrooge but I just don't get the enjoyment out of it like I used to do. It is a family time and I don't have much of that left anymore, just one sister and I'm not close to her. I get along ok with her but I can't stand her 3 useless sons and my BIL isn't much better.

Think I will make some nice coffee, go downstairs and fire up the C Liner.

Way I hold his lead it is very unlikely he would get away from me.

My sister thought that, too. The dog pulled her off balance and she fell and broke both wrists. At our age it is pretty easy to get knocked off balance.

I took all my dogs to obedience school. Best thing I ever did. Two nights a week for about 6-8 weeks. Dogs learned to get along with others and it was a very rewarding experience. They were sponsored by one of the local community education groups.

Good Luck, Ed

What a sick world we live in! Yes, unruly and noisy kids are a pest and their parents should "feel" the responsibility they have, but a society that prefers pets over kids is just sick!

True, but when a bar-fight breaks out and kids get hurt by flying chairs and broken glass, the owner is going to have a pretty tough time renewing their liability insurance.

Actually, there have been several fisticuffs at the "family-friendly" restaurants in the news recently, too. There was a big melee at the Red Lobster a few weeks ago because something ran out at the salad bar!

Never underestimate the ability of fellow humans to mess up a good thing.

Hey Brent!  How was the Glenfiddich last night.  I have always heard how good of scotch this is and I do believe I got to try it once many years ago.

It was going down smooth as silk last night. Sat in the dark with the glow of the fireplace and Christmas tree and while looking at all the Christmas lights outside sipped Glenfiddich and played my guitars for a long time, life was/is perfect.

Got up this morning grabbed a cuppa and sat down with the guitars again, Gordon Lightfoot, Peter Paul and Mary, then John Denver lead the first two and a half hours and just as I was getting into Neal Young I broke a nail so I came into the kitchen for the clippers and file and here I am.

Being married to a Vet and having animals in our life including six Golden Retrievers, the wife and I think the animals in stores and restaurants thing is really getting carried away.

I think the best steak I ever had was on the big island Hawaii. The restaurant was right on the cattle ranch. I felt like I was in Alberta on a ranch as the grassland with the cattle grazing seemed a little out of place in Hawaii. The fact that we were also on the side of a volcano help to remind us a bit that we were in the Pacific.

Nail repaired, so with a refill on the coffee it is back to the axe(s)

Ed - with that argument you can compell families to stay at home at all times. In a bank, kids could be involved in a bank hold-up, same at the gas station, in a restaurant, a super market - just any place!

It is our obligation to make the world safe for our kids, but not pet friendly!

In the town of Punta Gorda, Florida, a few years back, the city was not going to renew the liquor license for a Family Restaurant because of all the fights there. The police were called out 8 times to break up drunken brawls in one year.

During that same time, they were only called to "Hawgz-N-Dawgz", the biker bar down the road once.

Wagyu beef tenderloin filet, in a proper steak house, will be $15.00 to $20.00 per ounce, and worth every penny.

Yes, age encroaches in many ways.  About 7 or 8 years ago, I started to notice that sausage and egg muffins didn't digest well, and sat like lead in my stomach for half the day.  The girlfriend won't go near any fast food place, but that's more dietary preference than physiology.

Ed, it wasn't a good morning for me to write on the forum!  With a house full, I have lost track not only of the time but of the day.  Have a happy Saturday.

It finally quit raining, so we got the grandkids to run around outside for a while.  It's in the 30s, but they didn't need coats.  Seven kids under the age of 10, and I'm trying to survive.  If it doesn't snow too much tomorrow, they will all head home.

You probably won't hear from me for a week or so -- I'll be sleeping.

Oh, no arguement from me, Ulrich.

We have four children and nine grandkids. I would make every sacrifice necessary to protect them.

There wouldn't be a need for age restriction rules if PARENTS would exercise their responsibility to protect their youngsters.

I'll bet there's a report of a car-jacking here at least once a month where the parent "just popped-in" to the store while leaving their vehicle running in the car park with children inside!

Still, there has to be rules. Go to a "kid friendly" amusement park and you'll find restrictions there, too.

You have to be THIS TALL

Happy New Year, everyone.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer  and Dirk half a dog treat.

Far as dog friendly store's? I as well don't think it is the best idea either. Guess I am trying to make it up To Spakie by using Dirk. After Sparkie went blind the only time he was in the car was to go to the vet. Sigh

Dirk does not have his Man Jewelry any longer.

Far as the leader of the pack? He is submissive with me, I walk by and he rolls onto his back. Only time he pulls is when he needs to pee or poop. After that he is either beside me or a little behinde.

To get him to catch up to me I start sing Army Cadence's. Left, your Left, your Left right Left. You had a good home but you Left, your right, you had a good home Left your right. Catches right up with me but no pulling! Big Smile

Time to walk the poop out of Dirk so later Ken

Hi Kevin,

I totally, totally agree, especially when the owner knows that the dog can be aggressive!!

There was an incident in a Home Depot store in Canada a few years ago where an employee bent over close to a small dog that was in the owner's arms. The dog bit the end of the employee's nose off, disfiguring her for life! After that, Home Depot Canada banned all dogs other than assistance dogs from coming into the stores.

At the Home Depot in Newmarket a few years ago a man came in with a German Shepard that was not on a leash. The dog wandered away from the owner and then panicked when it realized the owner wasn't close. The dog immediately became extremely aggressive. It was barking and snapping at everyone and running wild, to the point where it would not respond to the owner's commands. It was one of the scariest moments the staff had ever had. I'm glad I wasn't working that day. I would likely have tried to kill the dog, or the owner, or both!!!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

Animals, dogs in particular, are unpredictable. Our son's 1 1/2 year old Boston Terrier had been great with other dogs since he was a pup. However, last summer one of our relatives brought her Pomeranian to the house and the Boston Terrier went totally berserk and tried to attack the other dog. What really ticked me off was that neither my son nor his wife disciplined their dog. That made me mad. I nearly grabbed the dog to give him a spanking myself but I chickened out.Bang HeadAngry
