Had a lamb doner kabab at the local German restaurant.  It was served in a tortilla with yogurt sauce and red onions.  Tasted great but I would have thought it was more a Greek dish prepared by a Hispanic.

Had a Weihenstephaner Festbier and a Dopelbach.  Both great.  Our waitress had a lion tattooed on the inside of her upper arm.  It was quite detailed.  I thought about asking her if I could take a photo for Br Lion, and thought she would never believe that I had a friend that was a monk, into lions.  I don't know if the wife would have approved either.

Had a haircut earlier today.  My barber, who passed away a couple years ago, was in business with his wife, who took care of the women.  The business took a hit when the husband passed away.

There are 2 new hairstylists/barbers, both women.  I gather they came from a shop that closed up.  One of them wore an apron with a picture of a blow dryer in sequins with a logo that was not appropriate for a family barber shop that does hair cuts on young boys.

I almost took a picture of that too, then I thought my wife would make me find a new barbershop.

Greetings from the Southern Command. we made a quick trip to Mississippi for the weekend. We had a slight delay on the way down someone sideswiped the Bridge over the Ohio river at Wickcliffe KY. ( two lane 1930's truss bridge) So traffic came to a halt.  Other then that , no issues. i will need to winterize the house this weekend as it is supposed to freeze here this next week.

Hope all is well with others, I will check in later.

Getting a big blow from the North starting overnight and through tomorrow. Went and topped up the gas supply for the generator so I don't miss the hockey game tomorrow and the wife came home with enough batteries from Costco for the whole country.Laugh Chainsaw started on the second pull, BRING IT ON! Nothin like the chainsaw symphony by all the neighbours that follows a wind storm.

Got the grass (leaves) cut today, two more times and I'll hit the John Deere top to bottom with the pressure washer before it hibernates.

I also finished all the lighting on the RH by adding two outside lights over the side doors. Tomorrow time permitting I'll weather the TT pit and put it in place so my Royal Hudsons can sleep inside.Laugh

Ed, sorry to hear about your sister, we are at that age, yep the one I could never imagine being at when I was a young kid. My sister gets upset if I even get a hangnail, she is six years my senior and I am all she has for family. I know my kids will look after her if I go first so there is some comfort there.

I knew our family went back to the 1790s in Manitoba, but now someone has traced it back to 1725 Virginia as to where some of them came ashore. I bet the natives were thinking there goes the neighbourhood that day.Laugh Many carried on to New Zealand and Australia as well. Many named Howard and Hayward and Harvey as well as my surname.

My Dental hygienist is actually a Dentist. She is a drop-dead gorgeous girl from China that was a Dentist there and moved here and became a hygienist. She may write her boards and get practising again, though she is doing so much travelling and loving it she doesn't like the commitment that comes with the title. We get along great and spend far too much time chatting. She asked me about all the war wounds in my mouth. Hockey stick... puck....skate blade...... She is very polite and always says the repair is very good.Laugh If I was still single I think I would have a new travelling companion.Whistling

I was listening to this Psychologist on the tube giving a lecture on rational thinking and got a laugh when she said, a guy makes a fictional movie where a big plastic fish goes around eating people causing millions around the world to stop swimming in the ocean. However, these same people pay no attention to the dire health warning on a package of cigarettes.Laugh I could go on with some of her other examples but you get the drift. When I talk about diving the Great Barrier Reef in Australia the first thing people ask is weren't you afraid of Great White Sharks? I then say are you afraid of lightening, why do you go outside?Hmm

Well, time to hit the hay, hopefully, the wind will hold off till morning so I get a good night.

All the best to all.

Good Morning!

I actually overslept! Well, not really. I woke up at 6am and just turnaround and slept for another 1 1/2 hrs. Quite unusual for someone struck by insomnia! Maybe just a sign that I should stay in bed for the day, as the weather is miserable. It´s going to get quite cold in the next days, withnnight time temps below freezing. We may wake up to see the land covered in snow pretty soon!

Let me translate that for my still mechanically working brain. You had a Turkish lamb döner in a German restaurant, served in a Mexican tortilla with a Armenian yoghurt sauce and the whole had a tang of Greek flavor to it, while it was most likely prepared by a Hispanic chef. The only German about that German restaurant appears to be the name, not to forget the beer! Weihenstephan is the place of choice for brewmasters to learn the trade. This small Bavarian town is famous for its beer and the local monastery.

I have yet to find out, what "Dopelbach" is. Could that be "Doppelbock" a strong and quite tasty beer? Doppelbock has nearly twice the alcohol content as regular beer and a dark color.

They usually serve it in 1 litre steins in Weihenstephan or Andechs Monastery. I was never able to finish one of those!

Have not seen a barber for at least 15 years - I do it myself with a haircutter and magnifying glasses Laugh

Gidday Chloe, if I was in a New Zealand Railways Refreshment Room, I would ask, could I have a ham sandwich with hot English mustard, a mince pie, a slice of fruit cake, and a cup of tea, please.

As explained in the following oral history dining cars were phased out in 1917, and replaced by Refreshment Rooms at certain stations, where the locomotives were either changed, or replenished with, depending on the locomotive, coal, oil and water.

The refreshment rooms were still open when I was using the Railway Road Services, though for economic reasons, I usually got a pie, and a bottle of lemonade, and of course a bus load of passengers, instead of 350+ off an express, was a far less stressful experience.

And just another video of modern stuff in the Bay of Plenty.

Good grief Mr. TF, I realise you enjoyed it, but what an example of similar but different! If that corned beef, potatoes and cabbage meal was placed in front of me, I’d send it back, my complaint being, except for the potatoes which look tasty, that it was overcooked! And what on earth was in the bowl?

Exactly my feelings about it! That dish looked to me as if someone had eaten it before Ick!! I prefer the German interpretation of it - potatoes, red beets, corned beef, all mushed and mixed, served with a fried egg, a cornichon and, if you like that, herring.

It´s called Labskaus.

There is a barbecue place in Brandon, Florida called First Choice Bar-B-Que, and they make a smoked corned beef brisket.

That is so delicious it could change your outlook on life.

Good morning ....

TF, Henry, Ulrich, and Kevin ...... You are talking about good food, Making me hingry and it's still early in the day.

Brent .... Your photo looks like it has a modern locomotive in the orignal Canadian Pacific paint scheme. What's the story with that? I did not know CP had any heritage units. Nice picture.

We are leaving tomorrow for a week in Arizona. So, I will not post here much until I get back.

How's it going Bear?

Cell phone pictures can be deceiving sometimes.  I can see what you're saying by the picture after I zoomed in on it.

The food was pretty good,  notice I didn't say excellent.  It depends on the luck of the draw and who the cook is that day, almost everywhere.  It was better last year.

I never send anything back for something else after knowing people in the food business that told me some things.  If you do send something back, there are a few things you don't want to know or do want to know depending on which way you look at itTongue Tied

If something is bad at a restaurant, I don't eat it, I don't pay for it and I don't ever go back.

The bowl is creamy horseradish sauce I've always enjoyed on prime rib and now I like it on almost all meat.  Ketchup and steak sauce are not my cup of tea.

Have a great day all.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, get the gang and I Beer please and Dirk his Blue Buffalo treat.

Work Front I had 3 customers today. One was my Be Back and he bought. Next was a Nancy and Jerry customer and for some reason he was not mad?Confused I had to change his order, he spent another $124.00 so no big deal. Last customer came in at 6:15 PM an they where great people to deal with. While they did not buy I think they will come back.

Nancy did call while I was with them, I let it ring. Called her back afterwards and she had something stupid to tell me. She call to tell me that The Igloo Mattress has Copper Magnet in it! Laugh That woman cannot remember anything right! It has copper threads in it.

Compter shopping. My head is starting to hurt.

Ed Hope to see you in the dinner again and best wishes.

Dave, How is your wife doing? Has she recovered from her fall?

Hi CN Charlie,

Thanks for asking. Dianne is making some progress but she is not out of the woods yet. On the plus side, all of her symptoms have diminished somewhat but they are not entirely gone. She still feels dizzy and light headed, and the vertigo still kicks in when she lies down, but nothing is as bad as it was at first. We actually managed to go out for breakfast on Friday morning and then we went for a very short colour tour to see the last of the leaves before they fall. The noise in the restaurant did tire her out. She has also started doing some basic cooking chores like chopping veggies. Simple tasks are recommended to train the brain to focus again. She is even watching a bit of tv with no undo side effects.

Still a ways to go. We are considering putting in a claim because the fall has totally messed up our lives. We are not normally people who would make a claim but this has turned out to be pretty serious.

Greetings all.

I've been thinking about you all. In the last couple months I moved home to family's home, and started working parttime so I can do an internship for school. This is my last semester, and I'll be looking forward to being done. It's been a hard two years. Now I just need to get a proper job.

About this time a year ago, I lost one of the cats who thought well of me, and adopted another. He is an orange and white shorthair like my last cars, and he's not quite 18-months now. Heis quite the cat. A smart one, and he knows it. My family adopted an orange and white kitten over the summer who knows she's cute and adorable, she's now about 4.5 months old. Very playful too.

Not much on the MR front these days, but I did weather some freight cars over the summer, and bought a BLI PRR L1 Mikado with some tax refund money last spring, as well as some PRR freight cars. One can never have to many trains haha.

Good thoughts and prayers to all who need them these days.

Hi, Folks —

cudaken
Ed Hope to see you in the dinner again and best wishes.

I haven't gone anywhere, Ken. Still keeping tabs on everyone here. Hope you're doing OK. I'd like to see that copper magnet that Nancy has Whistling

Bijou, my sister's cat that we have adopted, has started to get a little curious about her new surroundings. The other cats are kind of, ho-hum, here we go again.

As Henry predicted, the coroner did not make any certain determination, but "I see a little coronary disease so I'll make cause of death heart failure". No CSI stuff here.

Working with my other two sisters to see that Linda's final wishes are satisfied and that her estate is properly taken care of. My oldest sister is executor. Fortunately there is a will.

Kind of sad when I found a shoebox full of old greeting cards and photos, some of my first wife that passed away back in '86. Nice to know that Linda saved some of these keepsakes. Lots of notes from my dad and mom from years ago. Even some Victory Mail that my dad sent home during the War. Some of this I can pass on to my boys.

Dianne is making some progress but she is not out of the woods yet.

I wish you both well, Dave. My wife Dee Ann fell and hurt her knee about three weeks ago and she is just now getting back on her feet again. We seniors take a long time to heal!

Did you see any CCTV cameras around, Dave? You might not want to wait too long if there was any video recorded the day Dianne fell as that may help your case if you decide to pursuit it. Not an easy decision to start legal action but evidence can disappear if too much time passes.

Thank you again for the kind words and condolences.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe weekend,

Good Morning!

Saturday seems to become a strange day. The weather doesn´t really know which direction it will take, and when I got up there was a strange red light glowing on my WiFi router. It turned out that our VoIP phone was no longer registered with the provider, although correctly linked to the system. Fortunately, the ISP has a service shop in our immediate neighborhood, so I went there for help. They told me the phone service has a glitch and the phones are dead everywhere! They hope to be back in business during the day (they didn´t mention which day ...). So ne calls today, which may be a blessing!

Dave - Dianne and you remain in our thoughts and prayers!

Found an interesting video on Youtube. The short video shows exactly, what I saw when railfanning in my teenage days. Those days are long gone and even most of the Diesels and  the electric engines shown have been sent to the scrapper in the meantime.

Enjoy!

Happy times!

Good morning.  Cold and sunny this morning.

One of my teacher's husband died and the funeral is today.  My wife and I won't attend the funeral -- we're going to babysit the teacher's grandchildren during the funeral.  He is another casualty of the Vietnam War.  Like my older brother, dead from Agent Orange complications.

Some of you discussing restaurants reminded me.  Once or twice a year, the health department had unannounced inspections of our school lunch kitchen.  There was never an issue.  However, the inspector told us that school kitchens in general were the cleanest.  He said that restaurant kitchens were the absolute worst.  They were inspected several times a year, and they always had problems.

Hope everyone has a good day.  Dave, I'll pray that your wife continues her recovery.

Good Afternoon,

Up early today as we had to take Robbie in to the vet for the day. He is getting a test for Cushings Disease. Sure glad we bought pet insurance. It pays 60% which takes the sting out of those vet bills.

I'm a little tired as I have been hurrying this morning to get the main yard work done before the temp drops overnight. It is about 50F now. I got the fish out of the pond and into their winter quarters which is a laundry tub in the laundry. I pumped the water out of the pond and rinsed it a little to get some of the sediment out. I also cleaned out the soil from 30 or so pots I didn't finish last week. Now just to put away the rest of the lawn furniture and do some clean up. Oh just remembered I have to get on the roof and clean out the eavestrough or we might have problems in the spring.

I think I'll be tired tonight.

Well must get back at it.
