It uses a 9volt battery for power. I drilled a small hole (1/4") in the top and inserted and adjusted a mini-toggle switch that barely sticks through the hole to turn it on. I wish they'd had a camera that had interfaced with a USB port when I got it, so I could have uploaded the videos with my PC instead of to a VCR.

Found a recent copy of my roster and updated it a bit. Maybe a year ago I had nearly 150 engines but I've paired things down and sold off some - partly to purge PTC equipped tunnel motors after back dating to 77-83 focus. I do plan to add a few more in the coming year and pare down a bit more.

Ok, on my layout the year is 1954, so an EMD GP or SD anything is pretty new, considering the GP7 was introduced in 1949 and GP/SD9 models had just been introduced in 1954.
My layout has a total roster of about 140 powered units, of them, GP and SD units are represented as follows:
ATLANTIC CENTRAL EMD GP7's - 8 units
ATLANTIC CENTRAL EMD SD9's - 2 units, freshly delivered from LaGrange.....
WESTERN MARYLAND EMD GP7's - 2 units
BALTIMORE & OHIO EMD GP7's - 2 units
The rest of the diesel fleet is mostly made up of ALCO FA's, PA's, RS-2's, S-1's and EMD F units, BL2's, E units.
About 60 of the 140 powered units are steam, about 10 are self propelled passenger equipment (RDC's, doodlebugs, unit trains), so that leaves about 70 diesels total, making GP and SD units represent about 20% of the diesel fleet. That is likely a typical percentage for my era.
However, should the opportunity present itself, I would consider adding a few more GP or SD units in any of the road names I model.

In my motive fleet I have:
The remainder is a mishmash of GE, Alco and EMD switchers and critters along with the obligatory F-Units.
Despite being an avid diesel fan I even have a USRA 0-6-0 with a Vanderbuilt tender, a Side Tank Porter 0-4-0 and a 0-4-0 "Mule", all converted to burn oil.

I really wish I had bought more of the GP15s when Walthers was selling them for $29.95. All I did was install directional constant lighting kits from Miniatronics and they turned out to be great runners; nice and quiet.
It's funny; when I lived in Phoenix, my roster leaned heavily towards Santa Fe. Santa Fe and the Southern Pacific were the main roads out there. Each had their own yards.
When I relocated to Missouri in 1999, I gravitated toward the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific. But, in observing motive power while railfanning, I'll spot locomotives from other railroads heading up trains. Most of my Geeps are used for switching duties, but sometimes, I'll head up a consist with them.

Depends. SP seemed to overwhelmingly favor 6 axle SD units over 4 axle GP's in northern California. Since my interests favor northern California SP power I have no SP/SSW GPs, but around 24 SP/SSW SD units.
The real D&RGW had 131 SD's and 194 GP's, if I counted correctly, so if one were to try to represent operations, that would factor into the model roster.
Right now I have about 31 D&RGW GP's and 28 D&RGW SD's so I probably need more GP's to have a good ratio. I'm hoping ScaleTrains or Athearn Genesis produce some GP30/35/40's to help out in that matter.
