Speaking of McDonalds, our local one had an evening where my school's teachers worked alongside the clerks, and part of the profits went to the school. It was fun for students and parents to see their teacher working there.
I worked in the drive-thru part. I'll tell you that the clerks put up with a lot of (***) from adults who should know better.
There were several times I wanted to throw the food into the faces of the people in the car and say, "I hope you choke on it!" But the clerks were all professional and apologized to people even though they hadn't done anything wrong, and said "thank you" to people who should have had something else (!) said to them.
That night made me forever tolerant and pleasant to fast food clerks. I had no idea what they went through.

Good Sunday Morning. No breakfast at the diner this morning, it's doughnut day!
Congratulations to everyone on the birth of grandchildren, or family members.
Don't know who said this, but it's true for me: "An hour with your grandchildren can make you feel young again. Anything longer than that, and you start to age quickly."
The word's "no problem" don't bother me nearly as much as no acknowledgement at all. I will say "thank you" to clerks at fast food restaurants, and they say nothing and do nothing; won't even nod their heads. I know the manager of our local McDonalds, and all of her clerks make a point of saying either "thank you" or "you're welcome" at the end of the transaction. You can tell a good manager by the employees.
It's off to church, and then a nice relaxing Sunday. Our church has several services, and I always go to the earliest. It's still dark when we go. My wife would rather go to one of the later services, but it's one of the things she does for me. Of course, I hear about it!
Good Morning!
It´s Sunday and I am running late. My body seems to get started to adapt to the coming winter season, as the days are getting shorter and shorter. We have lost over 3 1/2 hrs to the beginning of summer and we will lose another 4 hrs until the days will start to get longer again.
Got the first picture of the new family addition. Say hello to little Amon!
I had forgotten that the come that small at the time of delivery! Both mother and son are in good health now, after quite a few dramatic moments leading to a rushed Caesarean.
This is the secret of life!
As happy as I am right now, I am a little sad at the same time. Petra and I will never be grandparents, unless my son comes to his senses and finds the right girl to establish a family. I cannot hold my breath on that, though.
Happy times!

I'm merging with a good friend I've known for years and we're going to team up together.
We're really looking forward to it.

BATMAN The one that use to get me BUT NOT ANYMORE! was "no problem" instead of "you're welcome"
Still bugs me! I always respond by saying "You're welcome" just to drive the point home that they can't corrupt my proper polite grammar!!! I seriously doubt that most of them have ever noticed, and the ones that did probably thought that I didn't know how to speak the language!
I can't claim to having been immune to being influenced by the modern vernacular. I frequently begin my emails by saying "Hey....." or "Hi....." instead of "Hello", and I frequently end my messages by saying "Cheers!!" which is totally stolen from my New Zealand and Aussie friends.
Dare I say 'Cheers!!' to all my MRR friends?!? Nobody is going to stop me, so I guess I better get used to "No problem" as well.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
BigDaddy The bus driver said a duplex sold next to his home, in a bad neighborhood for $1.2 million CA.
I am not sure what you mean by "bad Neighbourhood" but there is no area of greater Vancouver I would not feel completely safe walking through any time of the day or night. The further you are from the ocean the cheaper real estate gets but they are completely safe and family-friendly.
We are rural and when it is hot out we leave all our sliding doors and windows open all night. Our Golden Retrievers may lick a border jumper to submission but that is about it.

Yep, The one that use to get me BUT NOT ANYMORE! was "no problem" instead of "you're welcome" being around so many kids coaching and stuff, I have grown use to it.
Good Evening,
Nice day here. We went birding at Assiniboine Park today with friends. Saw a few warblers and a great view of a bald eagle so it was a good outing.
Bear, I've read the Sharpe's Rifles books a few times. They are really well done. Have you seen the BBC starring Sean Bean? It follows the books quite closely and is well worth seeing.
Ken, good news about Dirk. He sounds like a great dog. I'll be dog sitting for 10 days starting friday for 2 keeshonds which I think are much like Dirk only black and grey. They weigh about the same.
Henry, sounds like you had a good trip. I agree about the use of 'like' by young people. It drives me nuts. I don't think it makes them sound very intelligent. The girls seem to be the worse.
Not much on the agenda tomorrow. I hope to get the car interior cleaned ready for that season when it is too cold to do such things.
Oops, just hit midnight so time to get to bed.

BigDaddyThe millennials, like they talk, like they have to, like use like several times in the same sentence, the last word of a sentence is spoken a half an octave higher than the rest of the words.
I listen to interviews on NPR quite often. It seems to me another verbal trend these days is to begin every sentence with "So".
Maybe it is just me getting old and crotchety.
I guess my parents couldn't understand why every other word I said was "cool".

So Long for now, Ed
We had to miss sunrise on the Victoria glacier so we could ride the bus from Lake Louise back to Banff, because of track work. The food, service, staff, hotels and baggage handling were excellent.
We did not stop in Revelstoke. The ride itself was a marathon, 14 hours for a 9 hour ride. We stopped 3 times around the Spiral tunnels and 3 times just outside Kamloop and another 10 times in between. There were long stretches where we traveled 20-30 mph and at one point we had to back down the tracks to tuck into a siding so a freight could pass.
Early on the train manager said he would inform us of the reason for any stoppages. That rarely happened and when it did, it was a freight train "somewhere" up ahead.
We saw a nice elk, a ewe bighorn sheep, bald eagles, osprey and vultures. Kamloop to Vancouver was less arduous, though there were times near the city where pedestrians were faster than we were. Our last day we had 26 cars and close to 900 passengers.
Vancouver real estate is absolutely insane. The bus driver said a duplex sold next to his home, in a bad neighborhood for $1.2 million CA. In North America a duplex is one of a pair of homes built under one roof.
The Japanese-Canadian women are absolutely gorgeous. There are a lot of Sihk tourist and drivers and they all have fantastic beards. Aussie tourists were everywhere. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi.
I didn't realize nose rings were still a thing, but they are. The millennials, like they talk, like they have to, like use like several times in the same sentence, the last word of a sentence is spoken a half an octave higher than the rest of the words.
Have to leave at 0 dark thirty to go to Baltimore via San Francisco.

I would like to have some of that Spanish rice now with you guys, I have the day off tomorrow.
The rice and some of those other entrees I've been seeing would be really good about right now because I'm hungry
Evening all, it was another perfect day on the West Coast.
We had a crowd in tonight and had cooked up a roast lamb and I am still licking my chops, it was so good. They have all departed (early tonight) everyone was tired.
We had a lot of friends at the National Dog Show in Nova Scotia that was cut short and the airlines did a great job getting them out ahead of schedule due to Dorian making an entrance. I am glad my wife didn't go as that would have been an expensive trip for nothing.
Just finishing off a bottle of red that I started a few hours ago, I am down 5 lbs and that is a good way to put some weight back on. I was pretty active this week and felt I was wasting away so I hopped on the scale and sure enough.
Congrats to Ulrich, Petra, and Richard on the additions to the family. My kids are 17 and 20 and still have University to get through, At 62 I doubt I will ever see Grandchildren.
Ken, glad to hear Dirk is now official. I had a lazy day today and that involved a lot of time with my old guy. I put a ramp up the two back stairs for him yesterday as he is really slowing down. He likes it for going down more than going up. He is sitting with his head in my lap as I type. Not sure he will make his next Birthday in December.
Bear, I really enjoy seeing the aircraft you work on, I wish I could take a few of them up for a spin (literally) My neighbour just retired from Air Canada and finished up by flying A340s to Japan and back offered to take me up anytime I felt like going for a spin. It has been a long time since I have gone for a joyride on my own and I would need to go back to flight school and learn all over again as so much has changed. That's for my next life. I have a long list ready that I didn't get done in this life, though I tried and certainly can't complain.
My wife and I had booked a diving trip to the Soloman Islands and Truck Lagoon but she went and got pregnant on me and we had to cancel. I am still looking for the guy. I also wanted to learn to fly a helicopter as I have a couple of friends that did that. Next time. At least I got to ride in quite a few. The trips through some of the West Coast Range were the best. Many trips in the front seat of one just like this or maybe even this very one. My one friend was a bit of a hot rodder the way we would rip up some of the canyons and/or the rugged coastline of the pacific. He actually had a crash while setting Hydro towers and broke both legs and many other bones. He was back at it just three years later though and never had another incident.
Time to patrol the back 40 with the dogs and have an early night.
We had our once a year lightning storm today. This was taken at Vancouver in 2013. Two rainbows and lightning.
All the best to all.
RideOnRoadAs of this morning I now have 7 grandkids, all from one son.

Living the dream.
Congratulations!! I hope they all grow up to be happy, healthy and successful, and that your are able to be an important part of their lives!
Dianne and I are a few years away from the grandkid situation. Our daughter-in-law will have her Chartered Accountant's designation in about a year. We expect that she will work for a year or two after that before getting into diaper changing! I just hope that I am around long enough to see them mature (and that I'm not wearing my own diapers at the time!).

Flo, give the gang and I a please and dog treats.
Been a nerve racking day. We our offically Dirks for ever home. Wife was biting at the bit to go pay for him? She was afraid they might change there mind if we where not there early? Really? We sign the paper work and paid for Dirk at a rescue event at Petco. My God I could not waite to get out of there with all of the barking. OK 90% of the barking was from a Beagle. That dog need a mute button.
Had Dirk Pip weight and he is 26.8 pounds. Guess the reason we thought he was bigger is because Sparkie was only 17 pounds when we got him. That and the fact I am getting older and weaker! I still have no problem picking him up but compaired to Sparkie at the end he is a ton. When Sparkie crossed the rainbow bridge he was down to only 11.8 pounds.
Dirk spent a hour and a half laying in my lap! He loves tummy rubes and being combed.
He still would not eat dry food and Sue bought a new kind, nope would not touch it. So today I broke down and bought 2 cans of Pedigree can food. Wife mixed it in with his dry food. He thought that was bowl licking good!
Sure he is thinking "Now I am getting them trained"!
Time to sit out side with Dirk and Sue so later none smoking Ken

Nothing to report, other than I have problems with my eyes again. I will see a doctor on this beginning of the week.

Good morning! No breakfast for me at the diner. I think I need to lay off food for a while.
Glad to hear the hurricane didn't cause any diner customers' homes to be damaged.
I'm taking it easy today -- still recovering. I have about 15 old "Monk" episodes on the DVR. This sounds like a good day to sit while I still wait to feel better. I finally got through every old Perry Mason episode. My wife thinks I'm nuts. (I'm beginning to believe she's right.)

I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.
MisterBeasleyHere in Delaware, the hurricane is receding, the wind is dying down and the rain will stop in a few hours. The water from the marsh reached the bottom of the deck steps, but the yard slopes steeply so I am not worried.
I am glad you hear that you are OK and weathered the storm safely.
Keep safe.

I don't mind those. I can now see the pictures, so whatever you did is working!
Anyone know why my posts show a little white square in front of each photo? I made the mistake of trying to edit the posts, and when I tried, even though I made no changes, the pictures disappeared and went to the little link like I had on my first attempt through my Prime account. Had to re-insert them. This is frustrating. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong....
