Kevin, I remember those warnings living in New Orleans. There were so many warnings the hurricane was going to hit us, that after a while, many people began not to heed the warnings. Then Katrina showed everyone.

.

What gets forgotten about Katrina was that it hit Florida first. My house sustained substantial damage from Katrina.

.

Then when it hit New Orleans, all disaster relief left Florida, and we were on our own.

.

We were not prepared for the one-two punch.

.

Katrina was supposed to go to South Carolina, then it hooked West and decided to stay in Florida.

.

Another strange thing about Katrina was that it actually strengthened while going over Florida. For a while after the storm they were calling it the "Okeechobee Effect", but I have not heard this term since then.

Good morning.  Another beautiful morning for my walk.  The creek is out of its banks, so I could not make it past a bridge where the trail goes under the roadway.

Kevin, I remember those warnings living in New Orleans.  There were so many warnings the hurricane was going to hit us, that after a while, many people began not to heed the warnings.  Then Katrina showed everyone.

My day will be busy.  Our church is helping a poorer family change houses today.  I'm old enough I can get out of the heavy work, but I can carry light boxes.

Dogs!  Don't get me started.  Our dachshund Daisy somehow hurt her back, and she cannot go up or down steps.  That means we carry her outside, let her go, then carry her back into the house.  We treat her better than we treat people.  Of course, I'm the one doing it.  She stole my heart as a puppy six years ago, and she is the center of our lives in our empty-nest house.

Let the panic begin.

And a week from Friday it will be a direct hit on Baltimore, WJZ stay tuned at 11pm.

Ken  veterinary care isn't cheap.  Maybe you should start a gofundme page for the rescue of your American Eskimo.   I thought with a name like that it would look like a husky, instead it is an all white phu phu dog.

The only decent small dog in our neighborhood is a King Charles Spaniel.  The rest are undisciplined, spoiled yappy brats.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer and a Crown Royal chaser. Yep been one of those days.

Picked Up Sparkie on the way to work. Broke down a little when I got his ashes. He was such a sweet boy. Sigh

Maxman Yes Bulid a Bear uses the ashes as filler but probley not the way you think. Ashes are in a water tight bag. They start the stuffing with regular fiber then insert the bag with there ashes and then finish with nomral fiber.

Pop Corn the next Amerian Eskimo. We only get to visit with him Thursday. He has Kennel Cough so we cannot bring him home. Sort of disapointed and glad at the sametime. But he is beening held for us so if Sue can control him he is our dog! One thing I was surprised by is Partners For Pets do not Check For Worms? They told my wife they could not afford the test, makes me wonder how much that will cost?

I have 13 channels of crap on the TV to choose from.  Don't want to mix up MR with PF in a bowl and stir it together with a wooden spoon.

No I would not want to do that.

Well John, ..... to be honest with you, ... I always loved cutting the grass.

Judy never gets upset,  she's like a little angel, ... she only gets even.  You decide which way is betterTongue Tied

As far as Sports.  I hate to say it.  The Vikings track record is they always start great, continue great and then mess up in the end.  I had this conversation with Terry a few days ago.

I hope everything's been somewhat normal around here since I flew the coop.

I had to cut my grass, my wife is upset at me, and my favorite baseball team got killed again.

Everything's normal as far as I'm concerned.

$2 burger night at cowboys tonight.  It was good to see the boys.  I was pretty good.  I only had three beers and did not need to take the cab home tonight.

Hump day yeah!  I think from this day forward I will always go to Cowboys on $2 burger night.  Always good to see old friends and the socialization brightens up my midweekWink

Heartland Division CB&Q

Good afternoon ...

Kevin .... I just updated an old thread we had in PM's .... I hope you recieve it.

Ken .... You briefly answered about your interest in some day visiting my layout. Of Course, you and other regular Diner Patrons are welcome. Kevin said he might have time to visit when he is on a trip to Nashville.

MLC.... I can let you know if Kevin and I can firm up a time. Otherwise, feel free to come anyhow.

Currently, there are two model railroad layouts here at the lake. Other than mine, a friend of mine who is a retired IC RR locomotive Engineer has a very nice IC RR layout.

Garry,

I will keep an eye out , and if I get some time I may just barge in on ya!

Ken, Social Security works once set up, but contacting them on the phone is almost impossible.  They expect you to wait on hold for hours.  Use a cell phone and keep it with you at all times if you request a call back.

Write down your password when you set the account up, but expect to update it frequently because they force you to do that.

Good morning, everyone.  Bacon, eggs, and black coffee.  I love mornings.

The morning walk on the trail was sunny and cool.

Not much going on today.  Got the car fixed yesterday, got the prescriptions filled, got the lawn mowed, -- I've got a blank slate day today!

I'm willing to bet I can fill the day working on the layout.

I had all the time I needed to have a stress-free drive to Orlando today from Miami, so I took US Route 27 the entire way for some good rural scenery.

.

The day was beautiful. As I drove through Clewiston, the Sugar Cane harvesting has just begun for 2019.

.

.

The skies were gorgeous. I never had any rain on the trip where I was driving, but it was raining off in the distance all day.

I live right on a marsh, but I have not been bitten by a mosquito all summer.

With all the meds I take, though, my blood is probably toxic.

York1

Good morning.  I'm trying reverse psychology on myself this morning.  Instead of saying how much I hate mowing grass, I'm changing my attitude.  I have the privilege this morning of working on my lawn!  I enjoy it so much I wish I could cut grass every day.

We used to get "no-see-ums" at the Gulf coast beach.  If I remember, insect repellents did not stop them from biting.  I think I remember my wife used Johnson's baby lotion and it would stop them.

One of the strange things about living in New Orleans is that even though it was surrounded by swamps, I remember very few mosquitos.  Of course, we lived in Mid-City, miles from the nearest swamp.

After I enjoy cutting my grass this morning, I will have time to finish some minor things on my layout!

I need to enjoy cutting my grass, but it keeps raining. I will enjoy baling my hay.

I had no issues with Mosquitos in New Orleans when we were there in June.

In Houston they had gassed up a mosquito at Hobby Airport before they relaized it was no a plane.
