I godda tell you.  There was a little time leftover on my weekend Trek.

Judy and I were tired.  We were laying around and napping in the hotel room and watching American Pickers.  This extremely strange apparatus with four legs sticking out of it with mirrors came up.

They bought it.  Frank said this thing looks like it fell off a UFO in Area 51, how could we not buy it?

I asked Judy,  do you think that thing really fell off a UFO?

Judy said NO!   UFO guys don't have mirrors.   I laughed my ass off.

Frank Zappa was a little late on this one.

UFO guys don't have mirrors

BATMAN
If the IMS helps with the pain you need to behave yourself after the treatment. No wrestling with the wife.

I don't wrestle with my wife any more. I'd lose!

I have stopped the IMS treatments. The last time I had it my left hip, which is where the treatment was supposed to be giving me relief, cramped up so painfully that I had to tell the physiotherapist to stop. She agreed that the IMS wasn't working despite the relief that the first treatment had given me. I'm rather disappointed that it hasn't worked.

Oh well, chin up! Life is full of crap. I try not to roll in it!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I caught two in the same trap a few times Dinner

I've had a few that would stick a paw out and roll the trap so I usually put a heavy brick on top or stick a steel rod through the mesh to anchor it. One trap I have the door will slide open if it is turned upside-downDunce

What 'ya gonna do once you catch one, Ken? I don't know about Illinois but in Ohio it is illegal to release them in a different area.

My Broadway K4 came back today, finally, after the Post Office gave it a nice tour of the Midwest Indifferent

I ran all the smoke fluid out of it, then shut the darned thing off. The smokebox sure was hot! That smell is nasty to me, and I worked in basically a chemical factory. Non of that ever bothered me but the smell of that smoke fluid is awful Ick!

Got the paint job finished on this little guy Yes

TrainWorld called today. My BLI P5as are ready to ship. I'll have to collect some pop bottles and aluminum cans to pay off this month's train tab Whistling

Then the Royal Hudson just around the corner! I may have to sell one of the cats!

Larry, I hope you guys get a layout at your place, do you still have your stuff?

Yes,I still have my SCL,SCR,HR,Summerset Ry along with my Ohio Central GP7 two CR GP38-2s and two NS GP38s.. These engines are Atlas and P2K except the Huron River SW7 which is a BB. I have one United Santa Fe 2-8-0 that will be used from time to time. The 1953/54 steam idea faded into the sunset. I just couldn't give up my Summerset Ry and Slate Creek Rail.

The activity director will take the idea of a train layout to her boss at the next business meeting.

I'm currently adding KDs to the last two Atlas boxcars (CPAA and CR) I bought off e-Bay.

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go please Zoe. Still cleaning the hobby area. I have made good progress but I also need to sort and store stuff at the same time or I just move piles from one end to the other.

Busy day today - already got a bunch of Magnaflux testing done and now need to finish preps and load so we can leave for Hershey tomorrow.

Anyone heard from Ray lately? Has he gone quiet or did I miss his posts?

Good Morning Everyone!

Just landed in back the US yesterday evening after 20+ hours on airplanes and in airports! Slept a full 10 hours for the first time in two days, and I have yet to feel serious jet lag... yet...

Shortly I'm going to go pull some of my HO scale equipment out of storage that's been their for a year. Excited to take a look at that stuff! In the next few days I will have to take a trip to my LHS and pick up some train supplies for the summer (and the next year).

Have a good morning (or afternoon or evening or night) folks!

Regards, Isaac

Nope it is a guard rail. The train rides on two rails, and gets its power from the third rqil. One of the running rails (your choice... they swap sever times enroute) is used by the signal system, It has a single light weight bond between the rail sections. The other rail is the ground return and has heavy dual bonds between the rail sections.

The ground current returns from whichever side can accept it, ie the side with the heavy bonds.

The signal rails use a much lower voltage which can co-exhist with any other currents on the lime.

Lion,

That's why I aske. If you watch the video, the center rail has breaks in it and a bond bar or heavy cable between the breaks in the rail. I would have thought a guard rail would be more or less continuous.... Also by the time the wheel hits the single center rail, the car would be half off the platform. With the line elevated or on bridges, I thought a separate ground path would be prudent.    J.R.

That is looking quite good JR . I myself well we moved so I trashed the benchwork so I'm back to the drawing board as it were. Your just missing the overhead for the streetcars Wink

Rob .... I have been operating my streetcars without overhead wires. I'll be the first to tell you it does not look right. I have the poles and wires for installing the overhad. However, I hestitate because it would get in my way when cleaning the rails.

Good morning.  Beautiful morning in flyover country.

Flyover country -- when I was a kid, everyday at a little after 5:00 p.m., you could watch the contrails of the SAC bombers as they flew west from Omaha (Bellevue), with, we were told, nuclear weapons on board.  They don't do that anymore.

Speaking of SAC, if you are ever driving through Nebraska, it's worth the stop at Ashland, outside of Omaha, to see the Strategic Air Command museum.  It just a mile off I-80.

We have to travel a little today to say goodbye to a friend who is trading Nebraska winters for Phoenix winters.  She also is trading Nebraska summers for Phoenix summers.   Another place to stay when we travel!

Garry, I'm impressed with your city scenes.  I didn't even notice no wires, but I know how, when it is yours, things like that stand out.  When someone sees my N Scale layout, they see a railroad.  I see mistakes and things I haven't done.

Ken and Ed, I second Ed's comment.  I know that in Nebraska, it is illegal to move a captured raccoon.  You can kill it, but you can't move it more than 100 yards.

Does the diner serve beer?

Afternoon folks!

GMTRacing
Anyone heard from Ray lately? Has he gone quiet or did I miss his posts?

Oh, I've been sleeping in the back booth for the last couple days.  Been burning the candle at both ends so to speak.  Working on getting too many other things done around here.  Been busy cleaning out and filling the trash bin with junk I should have disposed of years ago.  I did manage to find some left over Oak trim and boards from some earlier remodeling that I hope the guy doing the current project will be able to use to complete the job.  He didn't show up yesterday and hasn't gotten here yet today.  He has a bunch of other jobs he is juggling at the moment, so I guess he'll be back when he gets here...

If I was to get in a wrestling match with the lady I am now talking too, I would be defeated in seconds I think...  She is a retired Physical Education teacher who IS in shape!!!  LOL  I am going out to lunch with her next Monday.  Wish me well, my friends!  She appears to like me!

Good Afternoon,

A beautiful warm, sunny day here.

The new water heater is being installed right now. Had to put in an electric as the chimney venting wouldn't pass current code so I would have had to put in a new chimney for a gas heater. Luckily we had a 220 line right there that was used for an electric baseboard heater that we disconnected when we installed the gas fireplace. We will also be set up for the replacement of the furnace to a high efficiency, the only type that now meets code here.

Ray, good luck with the lunch date.

Charlie,

When I moved back to Nebraska, the house we bought was all electric.  I was not thrilled, because I thought we needed a gas water heater and a gas furnace.

I have been pleasantly surprised.  The electric water heater gives us as much hot water as we want, even when all the kids and grandkids visit for Christmas.

It seems things happen in groups of three.  I don't know why that is, it just is.

So I'm sitting on my walk out that's on ground level after a long day of work.  I was just relaxing and reading what you guys had to say today.  I look up to reach for my happy hour beverage.  It kind of gave me a jolt when I saw the raccoon about three feet away from me, looking at me like he thought I was supposed to feed him.  I hissed and said get and he ran off.

It's the people on the second floor of the complex that throw bread and whatever else down feeding the critters and I really wish they would stop.

We had a crazy rabid squirrel last year.  This thing was crazed, we would go into the house when he was out.  He would come up to you like he wasn't afraid of anyting and paw at the sliding glass door.  I got really sick and tired of him.  My pellet gun found him one night.

Ed.....  You had the fork and the knife guy displayed right after the picture of the raccoon in the Trap.  Can you eat those things or were you just being funny?  I think you were just being funnyConfused  Something like that would be like Granny's roadkill stewLaugh

Those in line electric water heaters for hot water on demand are really something else these days.  I've never had one but I heard they work really well.  They aren't that big either.

Afternoon, everybody!

 Hot and muggy.

Today as my crew and I were setting trusses, 2 F-15's flew over. I'm guessing from the Duluth ANG.

"Merica!!

It was pretty awesome.  They are very fast. And VERY loud at speed. We heard them , then saw them. For less then 3 seconds. They turned south and I lost sight.Absoulutley amazing.

Evenin' Folks!

Charlie, John, and J.R. thanks for your kind words...  The lady and I have been talking on site, email and by phone for a month now.  I am very much looking forward to meeting her in person.  Both of us are way too busy with our lives at the moment, but we are both looking for ways to make some time for each other.  We shall see what happens!

I am absolutely zonked tonight.  Need about 10 hours of sleep to get caught up I think.  Not going to happen tonight as I will be on the phone (for probably an hour or more) and have to be at a meeting with some church people here in Geneva about the possibility of starting a couple new Scout units here tomorrow at 9am.  Did I mention that I am still way too busy.........?

Tomorrow the main driveway at my house will get sealed and the remodeler will be parking ikn the driveway on the side street to get in the house.  I am going to be so happy to get this part of the project done and moved back into my bedroom!  Of course, then I have to clean out everything from my office/dining room and put it somewhere so they can do some major remodeling in that room.  I will be moving the office out to the living room for the time being and probably have to store the dingroom table and chairs out on the back portch along with the hanging and other plants that I have in here.

And in the midst of all that I hope to start dating a certain lady, I hope fairly often....  Who knows.

Haven't had much of any time to work on the layout which supposedly will be on tour at the NER Region Convention next September (NMRA).  Summer has been booked!

Right.... I get the gist of that.  When I was in Nevada a month or so ago,  a couple of those Jets flew over.  By the time I heard them and looked up, I had to look ahead of what I heard, it was seconds until they disappeared into the horizon.

They fly over before a big football game at a slow speed by God.

What about those high altitude flying government planes that cut the sky.  You know the ones, the only ones that leave a trail.  My friend and I, Roofer Rod have had a few conversations about those ones while fishing, watching them go over and wondering what the heck they are doing.

Things that make you go hmmm.

Personally I don't have an appetite for anything gamey. Sure, some folks will eat opossum, squirrel and all sorts of rodent-like animals. Lots of Asians eat rats.

Remember the line from "O Brother Where Art Thou"? "Gopher, Everett?"

I cremate the animals I trap and when I have a raccoon on the "barbie" it sure smells like a tasty treat (once the hair burns off).

Well — you asked Whistling

I remember in the 1960s the jets would fly over populated areas at super-sonic speeds. The accompanying sonic BOOM would scare my mother and rattle the windows. I don't know when they quit doing that. Maybe it was a reminder for us citizens that our tax dollars were at work?

Ya Know,  I didn't even remember the Sonic Boom till now Ed.  I remember vacationing for the whole summer at my parent's cabin on Big Sandy Lake,  McGregor Minnesota.  Same thing, those high altitude government planes, the only ones that leave a trail.  The Sonic Booms.  Yes I remember that.

Oh Brother Where Art Thou.  One of my favorite movies cuz it's so retarded.  I can't believe George Clooney took part acting in this film.  But I do have to say I admire him for that because the film was my kind of humor.

We had a house near Eglin AFB in NW Florida for 14 years.  Daily we would get fly-overs of many types of aircraft. No sonic booms but plenty of afterburners.  We also experienced bombing runs over the reservation. About 15 years ago the AF detonated a huge explosive which shook houses and created a huge plume which could be seen for miles.

Despite the racket, it was comforting to see our armed forces maintaining their skills.

I know it sounds kind of funny but the Queen Ant just strolled across my stoop.  I let her stroll by, I, don't have the heart to kill her.  I wouldn't even think about it.  I don't know what she's doing out of her nest but she's just apparently enjoying her four days of summer just like I am.

What to do with a Raccoon after I catch it? Well that is giving some problems! I am 99% sure in ILL I can not catch and release a Rccoon. While I have a way to drown it or them just does not feel right to me. If I where to be killed I rather be shoot than drown, but that would mean buying a firearm. I have fired many weapons from 22 longs, 45's, 357 magnum's, 44 magnum's, M-16, M-60's and LAW Rounds so I am not afraid of them. I was ranked as a Expert on the 45, M-16, M-60 Machine Gun, Grenade Launcher and LAW Round when I was in the Army. Just don't want to spend the money, better places to spend the funds.

Ed Can I call you Thursday when I get home, say around 10:30 PM your time? I don't want to keep you and the MRS from your TV time. It is train related.
