Now THAT is a line fit for a LION.

LION did sea that lion, him liked it.

Him was never impressed with UP or ATSF. Just too ostentatious for the likes of a LION.

NPand GN were ok, The Burlington was fine as was CNW.

When I was managing the Hardware Dept at Sears in Peterborough, Ont. years ago, a customer brought in a chain saw that he had just purchased a couple of hours previously. The front handle had come loose! Dangerous situation. It turned out that the factory had used the wrong bolts on the handle for the whole production run. They were way too short and were barely gripping the motor casting.

Fortunately this saw was the first one sold from the batch and nobody was injured.  We were able to notify the other stores and get the problem fixed before catastrophy struck. Dodged that bullet! Didn't exactly leave us with a lot of confidence in the product though.

Lion, I'm in the same boat as SPSOT -- I can't see your pictures.  Even if I click on the little box, another page opens, but ........ nothing there.  I'll just take your word for it that it is funny, or sad, or interesting!

Lucky fans of big yellow things Sad

All the NP though to save was small stuff, everything from a 0-4-0 to a 4-6-2, but nothing bigger. None of the Z class, no Yellowstones or 4-6-6-4s Sad

SP&S has got number 700 (an NP design), but again no Z6s or Z8s.

I truly envy you fans of big yellow things Sad, plenty of big steam. 844 wasn’t even ever retired. Wish my favorite railroads where like yellow things!

I went to a train show today, but was very dissapointed.  It had only 3 operating layouts.  One was a small n-scale demo table, one was O gauge Thomas, and one was a decent sized rectangular O gauge layout with three loops, but just some carnival scenery.

The dealers were either O gauge or Hot Wheels.  All the HO stuff was junk with horn hooks.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Well, that was fun to watch.  The UP mainline comes about 45 miles north of my house, so I imagine sometime the Big Boy will be on the way to Omaha, and I'll get to see it in person.

Thanks for the heads up.  I have never watched that channel, and I thought they did a great job, especially the 360° camera.

Next I'll enjoy seeing some videos taken from the side and back a distance, to really get a good view of the size.

Way to go Ken.  Good going Kid.  You have this one nipped in the bud.

Went out to my buddy Erv's in Prior Lake this morning.  We went to the first day of Cars and Coffee.  What a mess.  Seems it was the Kentucky Derby opener at Canterbury Downs.  We were unhappy like a lot of other people diverted to the main casino.  A half hour later,  we got out, ... right where we came in.

People with nice cars were not happy.  I do not have to read the reviews tomorrow,  I already know what they're going to say.

No  Not a good first day of Cars and Coffee.  Cars and Coffee is over as far as I'm concerned. Won't be going again.

Maybe it's your aftershave, Ken? Great to talk to you tonight and I'm glad you are sticking with the program Yes Just keep thinking, one day at a time, you can get through it.

Factory Direct Trains still lists the T-1 Chessie as a preorder item. There may have been an older run, BLI does that a lot. I just got a "new" K4 with the l o n g tender.

I have two gas chainsaws. A Stihl 034 I bought back in 1986 and it still has the original spark plug. I took it in to a power equipment shop and asked the guy at the desk if they could "tune it up"? He says if it runs, don't worry about it. Bring it in when it won't start on the third pull.

My other saw is a nice compact Makita that GE gave me for my 20 or 25th anniversary. It is really a pleasure to run. Quiet, smooth and cuts like a beaver on steroids. For limbing I like to use a cordless Sawzall with a long "demolition" blade. Much safer when dealing with gnarly branches.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend,

Cheers, Ed

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  It is clear and cool this morning in flyover country.

Loved watching Big Boy yesterday.  I'm glad that kids are getting to see something that made such an impression on me when I was a kid.

Ed, I'm glad that I'm not the only one using a reciprocating saw to cut small branches.  It sure is easier than firing up the chain saw.

Well, it's off to church and then another Sunday afternoon for naps.

Have a great day, everyone.

Mornin' Folks, and a Happy Cinco De Mayo.

A history lesson from an old Music Teacher for you....

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.

I have to put a plastic bag on over my left hand and head to get a shower, then get some decent duds on and go to church...  Big meeting after the service ln finances and hopes for the future for the church.  We should be in fairly good shape, but....

Have a great day!

Your pictures were up earlier, Lion.  I seen'em.  Actually it was a screen shot of the ads Lion was getting at the top of the MR page.

TF  Look on Google Maps, at the lake, click on satellite view, you can see what appears to be a railroad grade,  in the area between the 2 lakes, next to Eagle Creek Ave.

A nice sunny Sunday!  The John Deere is running great, and now I have a few of the neighbors tractors to tune up for the year.  I'm kinda' the unofficial neighborhood lawn mower fix-it guy.  Indifferent  I don't mind.  The more people I get to stop using gas with ethanol in it, for their small engine stuff, the easier my job gets.

Ed, I do the same with a cordless "sawz-all".  The demo blades work great. The bigger the teeth, the better.  I take a little turpentine, or gas on a rag, and wipe the blade, to get the sap off.

Have a great Sunday!

Mike.

Ed .... Thnks for nice photos of the T-1 ....

Lion ... I hope you get your server working.

TF, John (York), and Mike : Good morning

We normally go to late Sunday morning church (11:00 CST). That way my Main Squeeze can sleep later.

I have a full calendar for two weeks starting today. So I won't be here much. Our trip to Utah begins Tuesday. I wish it was by train even if it was a yellow one. (UP fans: just kdding.). Instead it's Delta Airlines. Altogether there are six of us going.

Good Morning All,

Still doing light duty until tomorrow when the doc takes the dressing off. Hopefully the skin graft will have taken and I can get on with healing and rehab for the knee. Good news is they got all the cancerous tumors so I should be good to go.

I have snuck down to the layout a couple of times to do ballast for the service yard and surrounding tracks. I'm not sure whether I dislike track laying or ballasting more but both are necessary to have a decent layout. Usually I do all the scenicing first but with the yards, the ballast is the major feature and I can just add from there. I will probably try to final clean track and run a bit today to check the track for smooth running.

Ken - I am really impressed at your progress. Keep up the good work.

All for now, light duty or not I still have some chores to do.    Cheers, J.R.

Thought I bought 0.1" styrene in case.  Well in case is today and I don't have any.

Computer woes continue, trying to upload a picture I uploaded it twice.  Hit delete post and it deleted my MR album.  Fortunately not the pictures.  Does anyone know how to create a new album in Imgur?  Firefox is still not fixed though I did get some of my extensions fixed.

Good Morning,

A cool day here as in 40F with a strong north wind.  It isn't even sunny.

I did run a train yesterday! I had the 0-8-0 out with a short train of hoppers. Sure is a smooth running loco.

Did a little yard cleanup yesterday so at least the front yard is largely done.

Ken, congrats on stopping smoking. I'm sure it is isn't easy. I can't relate as I never smoked largely due to my Dad. He smoked cigars and that really put me off the whole idea. You can't imagine what it was like in the winter with the car windows up and the one speed fan of a Morris Oxford that had a heater designed for England.

We are slowly getting the trip photos downloaded. Once done I'll have to do a backup of all the files as there are thousands of photos on this computer and I've been very lazy about doing backup. I bought a hard drive for that purpose, just have to use it.

Big Daddy, great picture of the Blue Heron.  We have one that lives at a creek, several hundred yards from our house.  I am never able to get a picture of it, but it is a beautiful bird.

Garry, it's hard to do while traveling, but if possible I know we would love to see pictures of your trip.
