Let's stick with Before & After
I like this before and after stuff, even out of the context of model railroading, such as street scenes, etc.
Anyway, I see on my last post, the new supper brite daylight LED light that was right over me, gave my trees a blueish tint?
Carry on!

Rule 1: This is my railroad.
Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!

Check your white balance setting on your camera, Mike. I got your photo from PB and gave it a few quick adjustments in Photoshop:

Mainly I used the brightness controls to reduce the high-end, then used the color balance to bring the green level back up. Do you have a photo editing program?
Cheers, Ed
Wow Ed, that looks better! I don't have any editing software, and my camera is an older Cannon SD70I, I think. I'll have to see if it has white balance.
I've never done anything but point and shoot. A photographer, I'm NOT.
Thanks again,
Back to our regularly scheduled program!

To add a bit of history to that beautiful DD-1 model, here's some original DD-1 postcards, circa 1915-1920 from my private collection. The first shows the DD-1 on display at the Westinghouse exhibit for the 1915 San Francisco World's Fair.
This next view is of a DD-1 in Penn Station, NYC. This may have been the original color of the units at the time.
And here's a shot of a DD-1 exiting the tunnel connecting NJ with NY. Because the colors were added by hand to photo prints, re-photographed, and then the negative burned onto copper plates for lithograph printing, the color of the locomotive may not be the original.

Thanks, Russ. I enjoy doing research on old locomotives such as these. At least a DD1 has been preserved.
I'm looking forward to the Broadway Limited P5a to come along soon, too
I have browsed your post card collection. Very nice. I have a few, too:

"Before and after."
This P2K Burlington E7 locomotive was the subject of my most recent livery conversion to the NYC cigar band livery.
New York Central E7 #4034 is shown on its maiden run with a Mail and express train of mixed heavyweight and streamlined cars at the east end of the Black River Valley layout.
More before and after projects please.

mbinsewiI don't have any editing software,
You might take a look at Adobe Photoshop Elements which is a simplifird version of the full Photoshop program. You can do a lot of straightening, cropping, and adjucting color balance as well as reducing the size of large digital files to make them more internet friendly.
Also, the latest update to Windows 10 includes an upgraded photo editing program. There may be somethng useful there. I have not checked it out since I have Elements

Thanks George, I'll have to check out Elements. I did have the full Photoshop at one time, I just never used it as it seemed so overwheming.
Ed thats a great looking loco. And Russ, thanks for the history lesson.

Thanks for stopping by my vintage railroad postcard blog, Ed. I checked out your collection and I particularly like the ones from the Carriso and Royal Gorges. We have a few of the same cards, too! I also have the one of the Twin Zyphers passing each other and the DD-1 at Penn Station. Thanks for sharing them!
