I just Googled Howard Fogg Christmas cards, and there are lots of images. Maybe check it out, and see if you can find what your looking for.

Apparently, the one I am looking for is very elusive — it is a Howard Fogg painting of a NYC J3 Hudson steam locomotive pulling the silver stainless steel streamlined light weight passenger cars of the name train, ‘James Whitcomb Riley’ in rural Indiana in the winter time.
It was a Christmas Card offered by Leanin Tree in the 1980s, and I don’t know if it is in any of his books of his paintings ?
I have dozens of books and calendars featuring Fogg paintings. I can't say that I recall "Indiana Winterset".

Can you give more recollections to go on, Steam or Diesel? The Streamlined Hudson? Alco PAs?
Howard Fogg was one prolific artist and he teamed up early with Ed Trumble of Leanin' Tree and did some seventy paintings exclusively for him.
More details may help track down the painting you're looking for.

The card / print image that I am searching for is that of a classic, black New York Central NON-Streamlined 4-6-4 Hudson steam locomotive, pulling a set of silver streamlined passenger cars, on a late winter afternoon, past a barn in rural Indiana. The focus of the print is on the black locomotive, and only one or two of the silver passenger cars may be visible. I have seen video of this black Hudson- led lightweight train (James Whitcomb Riley) on some of the New York Steam locomotive DVD’s and really want to see Fogg’s artistic rendition in color.

Deano, thank you for your interest ! I have exhausted all Google searches for this Howard Fogg card, including eBay in hopes that someone might have one for sale.
If you are able to find this card, you could simply take a photo of it with your cell phone and text or email it to me directly. I am just a train guy who is now kicking himself for not ordering that card from Leanin Tree when it was offerred !
Although there are many versions of the James Whitcomb Riley, the one in the late 1940’s / early to mid 1950’s captured my attention. Whereas other name trains of the day were led by shiny new diesels, the Big Four division of the NYC, maintained a fast passenger schedule using the veteran, non- streamed Hudson, while the passengers enjoyed the comfort of the newer streamlined passenger cars. For a few years it represented the best of both worlds.
I have an n-scale version of this train, with beautiful Rivarossi / Con Cor black J1 Hudsons pulling sleek Con Cor silver streamlined passenger cars.
I am also a huge American Flyer fan, and am starting to lay down the track for the around the room layout I am building. As a fellow Flyer and Fogg fan (kinda rolls off the tongue...lol ), you may like a project I am preparing. I have a duplicate vintage Flyer 4-6-2 Pacific, that was already repainted when I bought it, and I am going to build a diorama of Fogg’s Christmas card, “The Yankee Clipper” of the New Haven RR, passenger train. I have the locomotive, the green Flyer Passenger cars and the New Haven decals for the tender. I would like to have a 3D version of this, another one of my other favourite Fogg cards, and photograph the diorama afterwards and share it with other Model Railroader readers.
Our memories can sometimes fill in, or alter, details in our recollection. Is it possible the OP has a slightly altered memory from the real item? For example, was it really a red barn and not a red caboose on the next track? I found examples of the latter.
Anything is possible when it comes to memories... lol.
I am going to visit my local model train store today. They have many back issues of Model Railroader and I am going to browse through the advertiser’s index of any Sept. to Dec. issues they have from the 1970’s to see if I can locate the Leanin Tree Christmas Card advertisement that I remember.... stay tuned.
And of all the images I've looked at, I haven't found a steam engine pulling stainless streamline cars. There was one, but the loco looked maybe British?
Hopefully he'll find it, because now I want to see it.
It's on page 31 of the September 1980 issue of MR. 5044 INDIANA WINTERSET - New York Central's James Whitcomb Riley. And it is a barn in the background.

I forget which year it was but one of Model Railroaders photo competitions had someone make a 3D model based on (I think) the postcard you are talking about circa the late 1980's... it was a close representation which impressed the judges. I have moved and donated a lot of my old magazines to clubs.

Done ! Just bought that back issue from eBay. Now, getting back to my original dilemma.... finding a color image of that card....

I can honestly say that I've never seen a color rendition of this artwork, either. Many of the Fogg watercolors, and some oils, are very familiar sights. This one has certainly been elusive.

Sorry, apparently my memory failed me. I distinctly remember this card, as I said, because of the American Flyer connection, but it's been a couple of years since I did my annual Christmas "visit" with my collection of Train Cards and my memory obviously played a trick on me. (I should be used to the idea, since things that happened when I was five or six are as clear as day, yet I forget to do things even when I leave a note where I can't miss it!) I went through the NYC section and failed to find it, but I remembered that 3-4 years ago I got up to answer the phone, set the box on the couch too close to the edge, and had to spend the next hour or so getting the cards back in the box in some sort of order again. So, I went through, card by card, in case I accidentally put it in with another RR, but it's not there (after two complete runs through them).
However, since the train is a New York Central J-series Hudson pulling lightweight cars, the train is probably stainless steel, as I don't think they went to the grey w/white stripes theme until they dieselized--and then maybe not all cars. Maybe an NYC fan can tell us? Sorry.
