This started as a response to a thread over in Layout Building.
.
It sounds like an interesting topic, so I am transplanting it to a new thread in General Discussion.
riogrande5761Welcome to MR forums where you can't get 4 out of 5 model railroaders to agree on many things
7j43k5 out of 5 model railroaders agree that trains are good (should we try for 6?). 5 out of 5 agree that not having trains is bad. 5 out of 5 agree that DCC can be VERY irritating. 4.98 out of 5 agree that painting decent looking clouds on a backdrop is impossible. They are all looking for that .02 guy. To make him an offer he can't refuse.

I think 5 out of 5 would agree that Testors #1260 Dullcoat is something that it is terrible to run out of.
Any additions to the list?

Five out of five Model Railroaders agree that applying multiple decal stripes or individual decal letters is the most trying and tedious task in modeling.

I'm not so sure about that one. I think four out of five love to ballast track and four out of five hate to ballast it. It depends on how much is left to do on the layout.
And five out of five propose that their DCC system is best. It's a Ford / Chevy thing.
And five out of five think this hobby is NOT so expensive (or this thread could be moved or locked).
And five out of five will admit they are glad this forum is available (despite the search engine).

I suspect you are talking about us old heads that has hands on experiance using brass track?
I still kinda miss the Atlas brass track with fiber ties. You could actually bury the ties like you see on some urban industrial leads that has seen decades of deferred maintence.

I am kind of in the middle, I do not hate to ballast, nor do I love it.
I think 5 out of 5 would agree that it was good Al Kalmbach was crazy enough to start a model railroading magazine in the middle of the Great Depression.

Oh, vey! What a fun topic. 5 out of 5 would also agree with the following:
- They learn something new on the forums;
- The forum search tool is somewhat clunky;
- They felt warm and gushy helping someone with trains;
- They spend too much time here;
- They have projects that they've put off for one (or more of the following reasons): too expensive, too time-consuming, changed mind;
- They were asked "why do you still play with choo-choos?"
- They have changed part (or all of their layout) after adding scenery
might be more interesting to list what 5 outa 5 modelers disagree on

I disagree! Kidding. I think that would be fun and interesting.
Should it be a new thread / would starting that here be "hijacking"?
5 out 5 agree that non MR people wonder why adults still play with “toy trains”.

4.75 out of 5 single male model railroaders know NOT to mention model railroading on the first meet-up with a lady you'd like to know better as there is a less than 5% chance that will end well, so go the preferred route of easing her into that knowledge over time.
4 out of 5 MRRs agree you dont take a ladyfriend to ANY train related activities, unless you're Nate at the MSMRC, he brought his girlfriend to an open house, now he's got no girlfriend...
1.5 MRRs will say MR isn't a good source of information, which I will be with the 3.5 yelling "you're dead wrong!"
5 out of 5 of us will disagree on at least 5 things.
5 out of 5 MRRs will agree we get strange looks when we say we play with little trains.
5 out of 5 MRRs will agree they get strange looks when they run off the road, jump out of their car and run to trackside phone (camera) in hand to photograph a train rolling through town.
5 out of 5 agree that the powers that be (parents, wife, significant other, ect...) dont understand why you're about to buy another locomotive or railcar, or why you want space for a layout.

Great post.
Lucky for me, the model railroading disease went dormant during my teens, then came back full blown during my thirties, after I met, courted, and finally married my wife. Moving into our first home triggered the relapse.
