The link which I provided is to a thread which has been going for almost ten years, but there was a similar thread which preceded it in another Forum.
Certainly, the Forums in which it's resided are better-suited to a long-running thread, as they have more categories, and less traffic to drive such things off the first page, but there's no reason why this  one couldn't have an imposed time limit, whether monthly or, perhaps, longer.
If you haven't looked at the link, I urge you to do so, if only to get a better idea of the concept.  I should also point out that it does appear to be moribund on occasions, but someone always comes along to revive it...admittedly, easier in that format.

The soo line was a subsidiary of Canadian Pacific. Unfortunately Soo Line disappeared. All transformed to Canadian Pacific. I know this is right.

I have a friend that worked for the Soo Line. He never changed who he worked for. He now works for Canadian Pacific. He never changed jobs..... So there you go

Wayne I can appreciate what you're saying and I say this with the upmost respect.

I think the reason there is a problem with this thread is the rules were made up as we went along.

For that reason I think some Forum members understand the rules one way and others interpret them a different way. I do believe that's where the confusion and conflict in this thread is coming from.

It's a shame because I think there's enough interest in this new thread.

The beautiful thing is everyone participated and tried to put this thing together as a group. With that said I would hate to see it fail out of confusion. I think this could still work if everyone understood things the same.

I don't know what you all think about this idea.

Steven Otte posted an example of a thread that was very similar to this thread. The thread was different than ours but illustrations were very user-friendly and very understandable.

Just a thought. Steven Otte has read this whole thread over and knows the gist of what we are trying to achieve here.

It is my thoughts as he is an editor, and a very good editor in my opinion. The man orchestrates words, that is what he does.

Maybe if willing he could put things into perspective for us. At that point everyone would understand things the same.

Just reaching out a little bit here. Happy friday night allWink

I think that at least part of the reason folks are having trouble with this concept is that they're using too lax of a match criteria:  harking back to Brent's silver CP boxcar, suitable matches could be something CP (freight car, loco, highway truck, etc.) or anything from another railroad with the same number, or simply another boxcar (when somebody's desperate to play but has limited photo resources).

Also, the match should usually refer to the subject of the photo, not incidental items, especially those in the background.

Naturally, those who participate can decide on their own interpretation of how the game should be played.

However, here's a link to a page near the current end of the thread to which I referred earlier.  Simply scroll through a page or two, to see how it's meant to work (at least for the version to which I first referred), and I think you'll see not only how well it works, but how simple it is, too.

Note how it goes from covered hoppers, to Conrail locomotives, to matching numbers, to roadnames, to locomotive styles, back to freight cars, then to locomotives again.

Good Grief, we seem to be making heavy weather of this!! It’s as painful as getting teeth pulled!!

There have been several reasonably good explanations of how this should work, so I’m not going to repeat them; also, idle chit chat and photos that can’t be viewed are as useless as…

Let’s just get with the programme Guys!!

The last photo in the actual sequence was trackfiddlers “silver CP boxcar” so here’s my follow up!!

I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.

Ed its not your bad, it's Athearns. I guess they figured the unit would be a "good enough" match to a SDP40F. So you're instinct wasn't wrong, the model is.

NWP SWP
Also my unit is a F/FP45 not a SDP40F, just to clarify

The Amtrak paint must have thrown me off. Only Santa Fe and Milwaukee had FP45s. I saw six axles and Amtrak paint.

You guys take the reins. I will be proud if something comes of this.

I'm not good at railroad prototypicality. I will research in spare time if any to be more fluent.

For now I will keep building bridges.

Ed, you are right, the connection between my pic and TFs pic is the paint color group, I hadn't have thought of that.

TF must've posted his picture right as I did mine or it didn't load in my browser, at least this thread is still rolling along.

Also my unit is a F/FP45 not a SDP40F, just to clarify, but if it's a cowl unit it'd be a connection in my opinion.

Well, I'll jump in here one more time and see if we can smooth the way for future contributions.

Track fiddler
I looked way back through the text for the last picture. Couldn't find it.

I based my photo on Brent's tunnel portal with steam and at least two CP cars in the train. I grabbed the Canadian Pacific connection.

TF, Sure a CP box car would qualify. The Budd dome is actually "silver" so that would be another connection.

Steven, there is an Amtrak F40PH on the other track in the photo BUT I believe you should be "connecting" to TF's photo of the CP box car so, in reality we're back to silver/aluminum/platinum mist paint rather than the Amtrak loco in my photo.

I see you mentioned that you hadn't seen TF's photo so that's OK.

So, here we are, the last photo is a kit-bashed SDP40F FP45 with a custom Spartan cab.

Rather than hog the thread I'll concede to the next contributor.

We're on a roll...

I'm having a Manhattan with Crown Royal Rye Wink

Good luck, Fellas. Glad you have a use for those BB Genesis locos, Steven YesCool

Alright I'll bite.

This has a connection to Eds picture of course.

I know it's not on a layout but I guy has to make do with what he's got.

PS Ed, two of those P42s you sent me are finally going to become a P42B cabless booster.

Edit.

I missed TFs CP box pic, so I guess the next pic should match his.

I looked way back through the text for the last picture. Couldn't find it. Way too much text.....I did have a scotch with Brent in the diner.  He came all the way down from Canada to have it with me.

I'm sure this is simple but it has to be spelled out a little better.

Canadian Pacific, so terriffic!

Well I look at it this way. We all tried but the thread didn't seem to work.

A tough few days at Sea Sir ! .... To my calculations six people were playing.  Half the people playing knew what the heck was going on.  The other three, not quite so much.  I fit into the not quite so much categoryTongue Tied..... as my Grandfather used to say.    "A half a horse a piece"

Maybe we should bring Mike Lehman into the thread. He could evaluate it all and put it all into perspective (The cleaner)  He could put the rules into layman termsWhistling......... That could workWink.... (an outside mediator)

If Mike is willing ? Big Smile.... We'll just have to wait and seeIndifferent

PS  I've been around here a little more than a year. I've always appreciated what Mike Lehman has to say.

I can really appreciate how he models his Railroad in the basement and then smart enough to get outside when it's nice in the summer and models in the backyard.

The man is like the birds that fly south for the winter.

I appreciate his opinionIdeaIdeaIdea...Wink
