Morning all.

ive a friend who knows a guy who sucessfully ran a current through his car to keep people from breaking into it. So it can be done  And what can be done with electricity is amazing, isn't it?

This is anxiety with the depression is gonna be the cause of a lot of grief for life, for me.  Ugh, the anxiety my doctor knows about, but since its work related, no medication for me there.  The depression I'm normally able to control

So I put in applications bout a couple weeks ago, and haven't heard anything from anyone...i think I'm gonna call them to see where I stand...or if I need to move on.   Hope not, because this one was a dream job.  It is packing and shipping, and perfect for me.  no customer interaction (after working retail you'd understand why this is wonderful), a raise, a STEADY WORK WEEK (once again, I don't do well with a flex schedule) and perks galore.  Yup, working Friday Saturday (today),Sunday and Monday for 7.55 is getting old and cutting into my model funds.

Hi Steven:

I'll be blunt. When someone pays you a compliment, like I did about your mechanical abilities, it would be polite to say "thank you". I have been doing my best to encourage you and to get you to focus. If you want me to shut up just say so.

Happy Hellmann´s Day!

We did quite a bit of traveling in the past couple of days, so I think it is OK to have a day of R&R today!

Here is what you can do - if you like:

  • Stroll along "Graben" - Vienna`s (expensive) shopping mile, but hang on tight to your wallet!
  • Enjoy a cup of the many different kinds of coffee served in a typical "gemütlich" Viennese coffee house, but don´t order any of those coffee-imposters you can buy at Starbuck´s. Remember to address the waiter as "Herr Anton" or "Herr Karl", just don´t call him "Waiter!"
  • Take a Fiacre ride
  • Take the streetcar line #38 to Grinzing and enjoy a nice lunch, served with local wine, at a "Heurigen"
  • Or you can simply do - nothing!

Have a great day!

Happy times!

I can just picture the radio, instrument panel and everything else going haywire!!!Laugh

I have a V-Twin engine waiting around if the ZTRs engine ever gives up the ghost, then again it might get put into that Mow Kart I mentionedMischief it has a 11hp? single cylinder valve-in-block engine, the V is a OHV 19HP? unit, problem is it currently resides in the Ariens riding mower AKA the organ donor, I steal parts all the time from it.

My ZTR fix was two bars off the deck of the Ariens (part of the deck lift) a 4 inch bolt with two brass bushings inside the 16g steel pipe, that bolted where the stock bracket went, I had to drill a new hole for the end that attaches to the deck though.

My Paw Paw (grandpa my moms mothers husband) was a boiler maker/welder his entire working life, my grandpaw (my mom's father) was a pipefitter, and my late grandpa (my dad's father) was a Con-Ed employee. Anyways I would like to one day learn welding (gas not electric) so I could expand my tinkering horizons.

Steven:

I admire your mechanical abilities! I used to do that sort of stuff when I was young and couldn't afford to pay someone to fix things for me. My MGB was a wonderment of mechanical invention. I got 360,000 miles out of it (yes, miles - before Pierre Trudeau) by patching and jury rigging. It still passed safety checks to its' dying day. Unfortunately my ingenuity was the cause of its' demise. I used wheel bearing grease to lubricate the starter motor. The thick grease prevented the starter from disengaging the flywheel with the result that the starter motor turned into a giant generator and fried every piece of wiring in the car!DunceBang HeadCrying It even melted the plastic sleeve on the throttle cable!Laugh

If you haven't noticed that setup is not OE or stock, those bars are from the deck of another mower.

Evening diners,

I defeated the lugnut! Mowers back in operation, just had to adjust the front setup so the deck didn't come loose.

I'll post the pictures when I can.

Here's how I rigged it up.

 Afternoon Diners!

Flo the gang and I will have a Beer please and give Rick and Steven what they want.

Day off was some what of a waste. Did a lot of running, 1 Honey Do and paid some bills.

New PRR Coach War. This new PRR Coach named Centfaun is going to take some major hacking if I am going to get it to work! Trucks is hitting the detailed frame (It has been hacked on before from the looks of it) and all so hitting the swing coupler box.

 Later, Ken

Everything and I mean everything, including my sneakers, is covered in yellow green Oak tree pollen.  It is also abnormally hot close to 90.

Managed to cut a tree down that was attached to a telephone wire with wisteria vines.  I was very afraid that I wouldn't be able to reach all the vines and bring down the wire.

My friend, who is addicted to modeling, built a Baltimore style truss bridge for me completely out of styrene.  No Central Valley girders, all custom built and it is magnificent.

Baltimore Truss

http://historicbridges.org/wisconsin/hurleyoverpass/main.jpg

His model actually looks better than the prototype

We are having communication issues.  I asked him to let me watch the build, he agreed, then emailed me it was done.  Sorry Steve, it would have been a good MR story.

I explained that the layout (module) needs to be moved in the next 2 years and he is insisting on attaching piers to the bridge a 3' section of flex track.

No track has been installed so I am going to hold off showing you guys pictures, but it is otherwise completely weathered.  I have a lot to do on the benchwork, add 2-3.5" of foam, decide how two main lines will join before the bridge and create a grade on the extra 3/4" pieces of foam to gain some vertical interest.

On the same module, I want to install an engine facility with roundhouse and turntable.  It's probably too much in too little space, but I need to get done what I can.  Life is not infinite.

Afternoon diners,

Tomorrow is Revenge of the Fifth.

Got the parts for the mower, well not the right parts but the "right" parts to get it running, and run it did, until the rear deck mount came off again and had to be rewelded, while we had the deck off I noticed the center spindle needed a new bearing and the blades looked like something ate them, so I swapped the blades for some used ones we had that were in better shape and went to replace the bearing, the bearing core WOULD NOT COME OFF! had to use the bench girder to get enough off to break it loose, put everything back together, went to bolt the drive pulley back, the nut went halfway on and seized! Tried for 5/10 minutes to break it loose, wouldn't come loose, couldn't tighten it further and it wasn't tight enough to just roll with it, I left it soaking in oil to try to loosen it up.

We're considering just buying a whole new deck to get it running, that's the source of all the trouble the cutting deck.

It's fun getting buzzed when they fly by your head!

That reminded me of something that happened last summer.

I was sweeping the floor of the garage and a hummingbird buzzed in and hovered right before my face. I admired it for a few moments, it buzzed back out but quickly returned, darting around the garage and "barnstorming" me.

This went on for the next few minutes and I couldn't figure out what this little guy was trying to tell me. Then I had a Idea moment. Right outside the garage wall is a feeder and I walked out to check it. Sure enough it was nearly empty.

The hummingbird was probably wondering if he was ever going to get his Dunce human properly trained.

Morning diners!

I'll take an apple fritter and some cold brew extra light and sweet.

Maybe I'll go back to that P2k kit I was working on, hopefully I get paid today and I'll go shopping for airbrushes, paint, and of course a few undecorated kits.

At the veterinary clinic getting one of the pooches up to date on vaccinations, later I gotta find a lawn equipment place to see if they have the parts for my paw paws zero turn. (It's 5 years old and stuff is really starting to break, one of the spindles had to be replaced, all the idler pulleys, the rear deck mounts came off had to be welded back on, the front deck pin snapped. Well we'll get it running in spite of all that.) After I track down the parts I gotta clean the pools and balance them. Some of the stuff I use is pretty caustic, ever time I go to the pool store for chemicals I come out smelling like the chemical cocktail that fills the store, it stays with you all day, at least I don't use Muriatic Acid to bring the PH down I use the granules.

Well it's now 10:15 AM Pacifica Watch Time!

Be back later!

Good morning folks

I'm pulling an all-nighter here to try to "re-align" my circadian clock. Pretty much all winter I would climb in the berth at about 6 AM and sleep to one or two PM, stay busy for a while then retire to the train room from about 9 PM to 5 AM.

I'll see if I can try to get out of this unhealthy habit.

We had our first hummingbird last night.

Wow, Dave, they must have skipped right over Ohio. I put my feeders up last week but haven't seen a Ruby throated Hummingbird yet. Our flock of Baltimore Orioles showed up last week and I have oranges and grape jelly out for them Big Smile

Of course, just a few nights ago the low was around 25°F(-4) around here.

I hope things get squared away for you too, Jimmy. Working on that neat bridge might help distract you from some of your troubles. I tell people that Model Railroading is my therapy (and it IS!)

How about a nice shot of a freshly painted Conrail SD50 to start the weekend off?

Good morning, everybody ...

I'll have coffee and a pecan roll, please.

Jimmy ... Keep your chin up. Overall, the job market should be favorable with the national unemployment rate at 3.9%. I'm not sure what sort of work you are seeking or what skills you have, but there are jobs out there. Also, don't hesitate to add to your education when you can to improve future opportunities. ... Regarding model railroading, I am currently installing decoders. After doing some of that, I have several projects on my very long to do list......

Good Morning!

W´ll be enjoying nice weather today, so we will be "on the road again" railroad that is, instead of spending our time in a stuffy museum. Let´s go west and take the Railjet to the city of Linz, the capital of the state of Upper Austria, situated on the Danube.

After a stroll through the "Altstadt" - the baroque downtown of Linz, we take the tram  up the Pöstlingberg. Until 2008, the Pöstlingberg Railway ran on 1,000mm track and used pre-WW II trolleys, but in that year, the line was re-gauged to 900mm and is now part of thge Linz streetcar system, with modern streetcars climbing up the hill.

Let´s go back in time a little and have a look at the good old days.

How much things have changed you can see in this video.

If we have just a bit of luck, we might be able to attend a concert in the church, which is famous for its organ.

For those who´d like a different kind of treat - take a look at this.

My favourite (next to Petra´s cheese cake and cherry crumble pie, that is)!

Enjoy!

Happy times!

Evening diners,

Henry I think I've got it now.

My favorite piece of classical would be either Beethovens Fifth or the Ride of the Valkyries.

Unless you prefer the modernized Fifth of Beethoven.

Did you know that Billy Joels This Night was taken from Beethovens Pathetique Sonatas Second Movement.

I'll be lurking in the corner for the rest of the night.

Good Evening,

As far as symphonies go my favourite is Beethoven's 7th.

Henry, I don't know what cataract replacement cost is here as it is covered under our health insurance. I do know that my MIL paid an extra $500 for more 'deluxe' lens. So far I have escaped that but I expect it won't be that long before I will be facing the same surgery. I do know that my eyesight isn't as good as it was. I still only need glasses for reading by my last test was 20/25 instead of the 20/15 it was 20 years ago. Oh well, not too bad for 70 I guess.

Tomorrow we will  be up early as in 5:15 so we can be out the door at 6:30 to attend another Birding and Breakfast at the local sanctuary. It is called Fort Whyte Nature Reserve and is actually just on the edge of the city. It was a clay quarry for the cement plant nearby but eventually it filled with water and Lafarge turned it over to the city for a nature reserve. There are still some tracks running through the bush with CPR stamped on them. It has been a very long time since they were used. There are even a couple of switches complete with switch stands. I'm surprised CP didn't pull up the rails.

Time for tea as we will have an early night.

I'm stoping by really quick, Henry, why wouldn't the crew turn the lead unit to run short hood? Either at their origination point or at the plant?

People were expecting the engines to run around to the far end of the train and go in the other direction.  Maybe the lead unit was defective in some way, as someone suggested.

Mentioning locations, I think I'm somewhere in the middle of our group. Mine is approximately 46° 24' 20.9628'' N x 105° 50' 20.1984'' W.

Hobby Front: Still waiting to get parts for both the wheel car and the new engine. New tap, in order to thread the coupler pad holes, should be here Monday. I will get some Loctite Plastics Bonding system to try to glue the wheelsets for the wheel car tomorrow. (The CA I tried didn't work.)
