Afternoon Diners,

Sorry I didn't watch the royal wedding either. Besides that more British tradition than American.

Ulrich- Nice setup on your layout.

I was researching again on the Milw Olympian Hiawatha train set. I saw an old brochure and some existing videos. Featuring 8-9 cars but I couldn't find information on the motive power between 1952-57 time frame other than the Erie built A-B diesels. I might get the car set next month but I'm not sure.

Top of page. I'll pay for the food and drinks.

Extra strong Italian Roast coffee in an APACHE RAILWAY mug, please.

Hope everyone is doing well these days. Really need to visit here more often.

Had Desarda hernia surgery recently (umbilical) and have just over 6 weeks left of no picking up anything over 10 lbs. The ol' farm here will be a weed fest by then. Oh well, needed to have it repaired.

Nothing new with the train layout to report on. I do want to remover the original (HO) Bachmann EZ track and replace it with Kato Unitrack, so it will be easier to hook into the expansion layout, which will be all Unitrack. When laying the initial Bachmann, I messed up on the ballast and in some places it has never been right since. Would rather replace it all at this stage. More on this in another post.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Evening Diner's.

No Canadian walleye fillet tonight. It was a new pizza place I've been hearing about. Sunday night delivery.

Oh it was good and there's enough left over for tomorrow night too, unless of course any of you Forum members would like to help yourself to a piece, feel free.

Hey everyone. I've got freshly baked sugar cookies from scratch.  feel free to help yourselves.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who lives Parmasean on their pizza.

It's been less than a wonderful week for me.  The woman I was talking to was talking to someone behind my back...ouch, right? Well, good thing about that is... I am still single so I still keep all my money and don't have to waste any of it on dating crap.  All the apps I put out were ignored, and one actually went to the son of an owner or an employee...... yeah.  So not only am I stumped at what else to apply for, I feel like crap.  Needless to say my depression and anxiety are hitting record levels lately, barely felt like doing any model projects this weekend.  Let's just hope I find something else to apply to, that pays more than 7.55 an hour and is full time.  It's litterally making me sick.

Club stuff: well, we finally started working on fixing our modules.  Story behind it, our modules were built before I was a member of the club, and I remember them being taken to a steam traction show in nearby Finleyville back in 1998-2002... yeah.  They're starting to show their age.   A few have frames built out of oak, so those are extremely heavy.  Well anyway, we even agreed to add a second meeting night to our schedules, so we get it done by August.  Wish us luck on this.  We also have projects going on at the club house, namely replacing and fixing switches in the yard.  We have a lot of older switches and some that have lost the ability to hold a path- they end up sitting inbetween both points and derail everything.  All part of model railroading.

Model projects- didn't do much-see above- but, I got the last box girder attached to the rest of the bridge, so that's something at least.  Won three bachman hoppers on ebay for 40 bucks- they normally go for 30 bucks each msrp.  I lost out on a sperry railcar, and a coil car.  I'll have to keep my eye out for more,

Other: Been working on improving "Sultans of Swing" on guitar, as well as some other material.  There's an open mic night this week at where I always play, so some new material would be a nice change of pace.  I still need to someday save up and buy a resonator, Dire straits stuff sounds so much better on a resonator guitar.

Hope all are well here.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Rick and Steven what they like!

Rob Great to see you in the dinner again! Hope you heal quickly.

Work / Reading Front. Only person that was in the store today was a woman that lost a Earring that we found. Did finshes another Clive Cussler Book so day was not a total lost!

Ed Nice PRR shots! Who made the Doodlebug? K-10 Model Trains has a used Bachmann PRR Doodlebug for $20.00. I have been tempted, but with it only being front wheel drive? Whistling

Where to buy Cheap HO People? I would like around 120 HO folks for the PRR coaches. That would be only around 17 people per coach. At $10.00 plus shipping for 6 that would mean it would cost around $200.00 for just the passangers? Plus I need to light the cars after that? Maybe I should swear off Passanger trains. Bang Head

 Later, Ken

Evening All!!

Hobby Front: Part 1 of the layout move occurred today. Small but important. Some of the loose (unboxed) freight cars were packed into totes. Dad's framing clamps have come with me into town with his permission. (I have been using them more than he has lately.) The sheets of cork also have come back into town as well. It will take quite a few trips to move everything to where it needs to go.

CNCharlie
Mind you it has been great in our backyard with many Orioles and even a Blackburnian Warbler yesterday.

Well done!

We have had some backyard luck since we got back from Pelee. Earlier in the week we had a male Indigo Bunting. It hung around for three days so we got lots of great views. The next to arrive was a Rose Breasted Grosbeak and it stayed around for several hours too. On Thursday we had a Baltimore Oriole which isn't all that unusual, but I put out a slice of an orange and lo and behold it came back! Haven't seen any of them since though.

Our regular birds are eating a ton of food. We have a nyger feeder that holds 12 cups or more. It is more than half empty every second day. Our sunflower seed feeder holds about 50 oz. and it is empty every second day. The vast majority of visitors are Goldfinches but there are often Pine Siskins, Purple and House Finches, plus the usual Cardinals, Jays and Chickadees. Lots of Ruby Throated Hummingbirds too.

These are cheap Model Power figures.  I bought a bunch and they fill in coaches and other interior spaces just fine.  Yes, they're unpainted, but you can sit down in front of the TV and watch your favorite sport while you paint them with cheap acrylics from a craft store.  Or, bring your paints and brushes to work.  You seem to have a lot of time to kill there.  You'd might as well get something useful done.

Only a couple of colors per figure are necessary.  Inside a coach, you can hardly tell that they are cheap hand-painted models and not expensive Preiser folks.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Still nice and sunny outside - great! The downside of it, it is too dry. The fire department is really busy putting out little wayside fires caused by stupid smokers!

Work on my lyout has to pause until those two little pieces of track arrive, so that gives me time to run a train or two! Those tinplate trains are a little noisy, but as long as Petra is not complaining, I am fine. It´s actually not the engines that make the noise, it´s those tinplate cars.

Ken - the passengers in your cars don´t have to be the detailed and accurately painted, extremely expensive Preiser figures. Cheap Chinese figures will do the job equally well! You´ll find plenty of offers for HO scale seated figures on Ebay - look here!

Have a great day!

Happy times!

Howdy, everybody .... Looks like everybody is busy. Glad you are.

We returned last night from our trip to Branson, MO.

Rob .... It is great to see you ! Sorry to hear youn eeded surgery, but wishing a speedy recovery to you.

Ulrich .... The Marklin trains look like fun.

.................

Here are some photos of the Ozark Zephyr operated by the Branson Scenic Railway. The train has an F7 on one end and a GP30 on the other.  There were about 7 or 8 stainless steel cars including three former CB&Q Budd dome cars. We rode on Silver Island which was a CB&Q dome coach, but now has dining tables and chairs instead of coach sets. .. Here are some photos of the train in Banson.

Good Evening!

I spent most of the day playing around with my new train set (I don´t dare to call it a layout) and also test-fitted the signals protecting the leads from the engine house. Crash! - Boom! - Bang! If I put the signals where I have planned them, the doors of the engine house won´t open properly. I need to get a few more short pieces of track and a good dose of goodwill to get that one going properly!

Lesson learned! Nothing ever gets built the way it was planned - not even a simple set track type train set!

Gary - I just love the F7 - for me the most iconic north American Diesel engine. Branson Scenic Railway´s livery looks nice, but the lettering is not real "railroad" like. It spoils the looks of the otherwise great livery, IMHO.

Rob - good to hear from you. Here is to a speedy recovery from your surgery!

I´ll be staying a little while right here at the RC, waiting for more of you guys to drop by!

Happy times!

They fixed the Chama webcam that faces the engine house and steam is running around the yard today.  I think I prefer it to the "modern" webcams

http://www.coloradonewmexicosteamtrain.org/camera-portal-horizontal.htm

I need to carve a grade in my newly laid foam and I am procrastinating.  Those foam particles go everywhere and end up sticking to the shop vac and hose via static electricity.

Sunny today, but rain tomorrow again.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, the gang and I will have a Beer but give Ed a Crown Royal. Give Rick and Steven what they would like.

Ed BowBowBowBow Thank You So Much for the Bessmer SD 7! I just got the Thundering Tennis Ball (Called Rolling Thunder by BLI) new replacement decoder installed and gave it a test run. I had installed the decoder a week ago but was afraid I might have did it wrong. Did not want to cook the new decoder.

1 New Horn is so much better than the orginal decoder horn.

2 Wheel Flange sound is much better. OK, I take that back! Grumpy Still sucks.

3 Thundering Tennies Balls? Yes  It sounds pretty good on my NHT SA-1 subwoofer! Have the volume real low so it is not over powering.

Gary How much did it cost to ride the Ozark Zephyr? Only reason I have ever thought about going to the Lake Of The Qzarks is to see the 1/3 scale Titanic.

 Later, Ken

Speaking of Ozark and Zephrs, the Ozark Mountain Railcar is selling a California Zephr Trainset.  We are talking a real train train set.

$1.8 mil.   Observation, dome car, sleeper car and a baggage car.  I would think a dining car would be more useful than a baggage car.

Good evening.

Ulrich.  ...  I think F7’s as well as F3’s were everywhere in North America .  I did not think much about the lettering on the engines, but it looks okay for 2018.  The lettering on the passenger cars was black Zephyr font , and says Branson Scenic Railway. I liked the GP30.

Ken .. it’s probably best you check the website for Branson Scenic Railway prices .  They run the dinner train only on Saturday evening . Other days it is a scenic ride without the big dinner, and that is less expensive. Our dinner train tickets were about $65 each, and I think the scenic ride without food is about $25.00.

Henry... I clicked on your Ozark link , and it wanted me to log in . I don’t have an account there.

Good Afternoon!

It´s past lunchtime, so I´ll just settle for some coffee and a slice of that apple pie, please!

Not much to do today, other than drilling a few holes into the table and threading the wires through them. The missing pieces of track should arrive within the next two days, which means train services remain suspended until then.

I won a set of three passenger cars from 1965 off Ebay - for a $ 12 incl. shipping. The auction ended at an unusual time, sso that must have been my luck!

With the exception of two semaphore signals, I think I now have all I need to complete the "train set".

Have a good one!

Sorry about the last link, I should have mentioned, you have to register.  They send an email once a week with deals on GP9's restroom signs, bits of passenger cars.  I find it ammusing that you can still buy stuff like that.

Shorpy's photos from glass negatives have incredible detail.  Here is a flatcar with a boiler.  Anyone recognize that builders plate?  It looks like a wolf to me.

Good morning !

Henry  .....The old photo from 1920 in your link is intersting. It has many details that would be good in a model. The wood shelter from the crane operator is remarkable.

Here are some photos I took on the trip. First is a very old Frisco caboose. It is between tracks but not on the track. Perhaps a big 0-5-0 placed it there. LOL

As we drove home Sunday, we followed a BNSF track east of Springfield which may be on the former Frisco line from Kansas City to Memphis. I saw an eastbound intermodal train lead by four orange BNSF locomotives, but I could not get a picture.

Later there was a westbound empty coal train sitting on a siding which apparently was waiting for the intermodal train. It had two orange units leading and one unit still in BN colors pushing from the rear.

I took the photos of the coal train from the passenger seat of the car as we were going 65 mph eastward on US 60.

Also, along the highway , we saw a redneck restaurant named "Stray Dog BBQ".... I think that would be a good name for a currently unnamed restaurant on my layout. I am also thinking I should have it net to a flea market. LOL

For a graduation or for just a long Memorial Day weekend?

I actually have a graduation to attend on Sunday. My oldest 1st cousin graduates. (My Uncle's younger daughter's only son.) I was actually granted the day off. (Not the norm for Memorial Day weekend where I work.)

Brother Otte, have you clicked on any of the "dating" ads that have been showing up at the top of the page?

I'm not one to be terribly concerned about the content of some of these, but I certainly would not brand them as appropriate for younger modelers.

Mostly, I'm concerned that the companies who dump these ads to our screens have fully vetted the content and can guarantee that the ads themselves, given their somewhat suggestive content, do not actually contain viral code.  I've seen similar trash trojans on other sites, and I'd hate to see our members exposed to malicious viruses.  I certainly would not recommend trying these sites, and I'm glad that my resident anti-virus is up to date.

Good evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Garry:  really liked the GP 30 picture.  They're my favorite diesel locomotives.  I agree that the lettering doesn't look too "railroady."  But then, I don't think it's supposed to.  However, it is eye catching.

Speaking of tunes, there's an old song that I always really liked, but hadn't heard since it was released 58 years ago.  Well, I found it on you tube.  Sounded just how I remembered it.  Bluesy piano, dreamy counterpoint from the strings, yeah! It was "Playboy's Theme" by the composer, Cy somebody.  His last name also began with a "C".  Released in 1960.  I'd post it, but if I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet, I don't think I'd have any luck with an audio-video file.  There's actually no video, just a picture of the record label.  Anyway, great to hear it again after all these years.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Cy Coleman, as below.  Doesn't ring a bell at all.  There are versions by Henry Mancini, which leads to the Peter Gunn theme and then that leads to the spaghetti western themes.  I wonder if Steven the younger knows about those?

I wasn't big on posting music, but everyone else was ok with it so here goes.
