Good Morning, Folks!
Well, shiver me timbers! Top-'o-the page!
How about a round of Tin Roof Sundaes all around!
hot-tin-roof-sundaes by Edmund, on Flickr
hon30critter I've seen lots of pictures of wrecked trains but watching it actually happen is very sobering.
One powerful, massive force meets another powerful, massive force! Truly sobering as you say. Especially the sight of that tank car, sparks and all, heading right toward the cab!
I remember in the early 1980s a co-worker said his cousin was clearing some timber in western Pennsylvania and if I wanted any free firewood, come-and-get-it.
When I got to his site he had a working sawmill setup. The guys around said I should climb up that hill and take a look at what they were working on.
Once I got to the crest I could look across the valley and clearly see a path of mowed-down trees and timber that looked like a gargantuan back-hoe had scraped that valley and cut a trench about a mile long and maybe a hundred-yards wide.
Come to think of it, I recall posting this photo not long ago:

Congratulations Master Steven! Hats off to you!
Here's hoping we ALL have a great weekend. Thoughts and prayers to those not so well off —
Regards, Ed
Good morning everyone!
Later today is registration and then a tour of the high school, if I happen to see a few of my old video teachers I'll grab a selfie! I'm hoping to meet up with my friend she's from Louisiana too and graduating. After the tour all the seniors are going to be hanging out at the PCC activity center which has bowling, ice skating, a water park. (Now theres a conundrum a Christian college has a water park, but they are so conservative that they want guys and girls to wear T-shirts over their swimwear, even while in the water?! Don't they know that Tees get very clingy when wet? Whatever!)
Tomorrow at 1:50 PM Central Time, Abeka begins the live stream of the ceremony, I'll probably be one of the last to be called being that my last name is Zechnick KIDDING it's actually Ward like a hospital ward?! Here's a link to it for anyone who wants to watch!

Well I'll be back later if I have time!
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!

Good Evening!
I am back from a tiring, but successful day! Claus and I met at his place and we drove to the nearest DIY place to buy the plywood table top for my layout. Well, at least we tried. My local store didn´t have what I wanted, and the place close Claus´ home didn´t either. The next place we tried had it - and even considerably cheaper than the two we tried before. It took us all day to build the frame, round the corners of the table top, assemble the whole thing and give it a first coat of paint.
Now it´s at my place, ready to receive the second coat of paint on the surface, which I will do tomorrow, providing Petra lets me.
Pictures to follow tomorrow!
Happy times!

Good morning, it is a pleasant day on the West Coast. Warm and bright with a high OC.
Drove the kid into Vancouver at 0700hrs for his exam this morning. There was no rush hour traffic for some reason and thus we were an hour early. There was a McDonalds across the street so he went for breakfast and I went home. He is taking the bus back as far as he can get and I will pick him up.
Steven, I laughed at the bit about the kids having to cover up. Those people better never visit Tahiti, they will be in for a shock. I find it is the same people that get bent out of shape about scantily clad or topless women, have a fit if a woman chooses to wear a head or face covering. It is legal in British Columbia for women to go topless by the way.
Got four tickets for Deadpool2 tomorrow $81.00 for four at the IMAX. I want to see Solo as well and that will be it for movies at the theatre for a while. When the kids were younger I would load up the truck on a rainy Saturday and take them and a bunch of their friends to the movies. That would be an expensive afternoon but we had lots of fun.
Garry, hope you have a great trip and yes take pic's.
Ed, I'll pass on the Sundaes thanks, too many sit-ups in one of those. I had a sit-up competition with the kid when he got home. We always have competed in cycling or sit-ups or push-ups, it keeps me young. He cleans my chronometer every time though.
I think I will look into seeing if there are upgrades for my NCE system. The thread on the DCC command systems has got me wondering. Mine is ten years old. The only thing I would like an upgrade for would be on the recall stacking. I like to run three trains sometimes and it only recalls one so it is a bit of a pain that way.
Been thinking of Hawaii a lot because of the volcanoes. The wife and I are thinking of getting a place there, maybe on Kaui, it is a quick trip to get there. Once both kids are in University there is no reason to winter at home and they can join us at Christmas over there. Train stores may be an issue though.
Lots to do today so Pina Coladas on me. I'll be in for one of my own later.
All the best to all.
Brent

That's not an upgrade, you just have to change the recall to 3. p 58 of the powercab manual.

Evening diners,
Had orientation, saw my friend, she was with her sister, their family is not doing any of the school activities they're hanging at the beach. I know for sure that I WILL NOT be going to PCC (abekas partner college) they are attempting to control every aspect of the weekend, but ahh well. A little side note on the swim wear thing, I just learned this earlier, the Waterpark is open to just girls for a few hours and then just guys for a few more hours! They're a bit too over the top!

Afternoon Diners
Flo, I will pass on the Pina Colada (I do love them) and will have a instead.
Got some Model Railroading done. Got the programing track up and running again. Wires broke off the PR 3 and the rails them self. Saturday I will try to get the Bessmer SD 7 Thundering Tennis Balls engine going. Want to test with decoder pro first to make sure I installed the decoder right.
PRR Coach Wars, PRR 0 Cuda Ken 1! Got the sagging coupler pocket fixed on the new Bachmann 1736 coach. Had to change couples to #5 and gave it a run, not a single derail or uncoupling! It has made it around the layout 30 + times so I am calling that fixed. Next I need to paint the undercarrage. For some reason it is gray and the other coaches are black?
Next is to get the Centfaun going. That would give 7 Heavy Weight Pullmans rolling. That would be a good sizes train for my town of Kingsdown.
BATMANIt is legal in British Columbia for women to go topless by the way.
Brent That law should be repealed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When the kid gets into the goverment get him working on that!
Later, PRR Happy Ken

BATMAN Lots to do today so Pina Coladas on me. I'll be in for one of my own later.
I will take you up on that offer as long as it is a virgin. (As many of you know, I choose not to imbibe.)
Weather Front: The third weekend in May brings a major event to our town. There is a tradition that it always rains at least one day during the weekend. The tradition has been upheld again this year. I don't know how much we got, but it was enough to get everything quite wet. (Heavy enough that I was unable to use a piece of the power equipment at work. Working pallet stacks with a manual jack gets very tiring on the knees.)
Hobby Front: Finally got the two bottles of paint that I need for painting the NP caboose ordered. Had been too cold to do it previously. I don't order paint basically from October to April as it is too cold.
I also did the bidding on equipment that I really don't need thing again. This time it is a flatcar. If I get it, I get it. If I don't, I don't.
NWP SWPthey're hanging at the beach.
.
Sure sounds like the right thing to do to me! I love hanging at the beach, I go every chance I get.
I drove through Denton, GA again today. This time it was not raining, so I stopped to get a picture.
Denton! Denton! Rah-Rah-Rah!
Don't Dream It... Be It!
I tried to do my best "Brad Majors" pose, but it did not turn out the way I hoped.
I hope everyone is going to have a wonderful weekend. I have a great one planned.
Stay safe.

Living the dream.
Good Evening,
Finally a full day of RAIN!!! First in a month and it was a good soaker too.
Dave, sounds like you had a good time at Point Pelee. Chatham was part of my territory when I was a rep for Sunoco back in the early '70s. I had 6 accounts in that town so it meant an overnight stay. We had 52 species at our Birding and Breakfast on Wednesday which isn't bad for an hour and a half. We go out in groups of about 6-8 people with an experienced guide as a leader. We didn't go this morning as wet isn't part of my birding experience. Mind you it has been great in our backyard with many Orioles and even a Blackburnian Warbler yesterday.
I decided to buy a copy of Railway Modeller magazine for something different. I do enjoy it and marvel at the amount of model railroading that goes on in the UK. My copy of Classic Trains also arrived this week and CN Lines so I have been reading a lot. I guess it rubbed off as I ran trains for about an hour this evening. I did some road switching with the RS3 and made up a new train for the Light Mountain to haul.
I had my semi-annual glaucoma check this week and everything is ok. I asked the Doc if there was any sign of cataracts and he said yes but very slight so hopefully I can avoid that for some years yet.
Well tea and tellie time again,
CN Charlie
Good evening all.
Zoe - A RBF please. Thanks.
Ray - Congrats on the weight loss! Great progress.
Ken - Glad the new railcar is being cooperative for you.
Steven NWP - Congrats on the graduation. It is a bit odd how they have the water park rules, but then again, sometimes some rules need to be in place at those places.
Birds - Humming birds are back in my area, going through feeders here pretty quickly. We have one that will alert us when the feeder is empty - He hovers right in the window, looking into the house as if to say "Hello!!! - My food is all gone, where is the wait staff?!?"
W*^k - Will be getting moved into the print center in about a week.
The interesting experience this week, was that on Wednesday, I would have sworn that they were shooting a remake for the song "Convoy" on the interstate that morning. There was a bunch of tractor-trailers, all right together, which was a bit odd, and smack in the middle was a short bus... So, my first thought was, "and 11 long-haired friends of Jesus in a chartreuse micro-bus.... Convoy!"
Only issue was, not one Kenworth hauling logs in the mix.... And the bus was purple-ish/pink, not green chartreuse color.
But still...
I thought it was funny.
Trains- Layout progress is on hold some more, but a remodel is quickly upcoming, and that will allow significant progress to be made. Scheduled to begin in a couple weeks, and will take about 2-3 months to complete. Then, full on progress on the temporary layout will begin. (We are still possibly moving in a little over a year, so the layout will be made to be moved easily.)
Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

My Railroad rules:
1: It's my railroad, my rules.
2: It's for having fun and enjoyment.
3: Any objections, consult above rules.
Met some new friends, some Texans, some Peruvians, and some Puerto Ricans.
Rules are good, but everything in moderation!
Met a few of my video teachers, it's funny I know a lot about them but they have never even heard of me!
My friend seriously missed out on some big time fun! But she'd probably say the same about me!
Earlier I went to Bobes Hobby saw some books I liked I'm going back tomorrow evening to make an offer on them.
I right now the In The Street track is being switched, I can hear the horns and the Prime Movers but CAN'T SEE ANYTHING!
CONVOY! Yessir those friends of Jesus gonna save us, praise the Lord and Mr. Ford and follow that microbus! Alright Big Ben, what's your 20? Australia? Ain't nuthin' there but the Koala Bears!
I know those songs all too well!
I'll be checking my threads and I'll stop back by in a bit.
Good Morning!
It´s been a week since my old layout was hauled away, leaving a gap in my train/guest/laundry/office room that just begged to be filled again.
Well, yesterday was the big day! Claus and I built the table top to be hinged to the cabinet, brought it to my place and mounted it on the cabinet! A day of hard work for us, but a rewarding one!
The surface needs another coat of paint, but it´s not warm enogh today, to leave the windows open all day long. The acrylic paint I use has a pungent smell, non toxuc, though, just annoying and it zakes a few hours to disappear.
I already installed the cable duct this morning, which will hold all wiring. You just feed the wire into the duct, run it to where you want it and connect it to whatever you want to connect it to. When all the wiring is done and the wires are properly tagged, you just clip on a cover aand that´s it!
I am now all set to "let the games begin" and start construction of my new layout -- a 160cm by 70cm affair, a footprint most folks would demm unfit for a reasonable N scale layout, let alone an HO scale one!
Steven - this is your big day today - one of the important milestones in a life! Enjoy!
Western European countries are quite liberal, when it comes to dress codes in public, but that is changing rapidly these days under the influence of circumstances I won´t comment on.
Enjoy your day!
Everybody must be watching the wedding. How many are
The Rolls Royce was pretty cool, although not my color. Ridiculous tail on the end of the dress. I don't envy either of them living under a microscope for the rest of their lives but I hope they find happiness that his mother did not.
Yes it's the check valve that's leaking a long run of water back into the sump pump. After all these years I just figured out that's not normal. I found out there are quiet check valves too. Of course none of the home improvement stores stock those and the rain isn't stopping either.
BigDaddyEverybody must be watching the wedding.
Me not! (correct is "I don´t) I don´t "do" television for over a year now - not even the news!
Instead of sitting in front of the idiot box, I started work on my new layout!
"The Games have Begun!"
The first test run revealed a serious glitch in the track plan, which can be cured, though. I need to insert a short piece of track between the switch and the bridge to have sufficient clearance on the diverging track. Another piece will have to go in between the curve on the lower left side and the switch. The two pieces I need are already ordered!
Feels good to be back in business!
NWP SWPCONVOY! Yessir those friends of Jesus gonna save us, praise the Lord and Mr. Ford and follow that microbus! Alright Big Ben, what's your 20? Australia? Ain't nuthin' there but the Koala Bears! I know those songs all too well!
Um... not that well.
You put the "Suicide Jockey" in behind the microbus because he is hauling dynomite and he needs all the help he can get.
The CB Buddy's handle is "Pig Pen", not "Big Ben". That is one of the most mis-quoted parts of the song. You can even find the incorrect lyrics online.
What's your 20? It is OMAHA, not Australia. That is just one of the many hidden D-Day references in the song.
I would love to hear your interpretations of other commonly misquoted classic pop songs like Jet Airliner, Country Boys Can Survive, or Bad Moon Rising.
Rule one in this forum should be "Don't try to out-nerd the nerds".
Good morning from a dry but cool West Coast.
Henry thanks for setting me right on the NCE stacking issue. Quite a while back someone on a different forum told me I would have to upgrade to fix that and I never pursued it. Now I know why I mostly hang out on this forum.
Ed, you did indeed catch me out on the Sundae vs Pinacolada thing, so much so I decided not to make one last night. But then the wife made me one when I wasn't looking and brought it to me. It seems talking about Hawaii put her in the mood for one as well. Her Pina's are only a third in size to the ones I build, so I didn't feel too bad.
Ken, I said it is legal to go topless in B.C. as in they are allowed to. Don't see it too often on most beaches though. The point was made, the constitutional challenge won and so the tops went back on for the most part. I think a lot of men should be made to have tops on these days, they are obviously having too many Pina Coladas.
The kid is getting lots of messages and calls as people are seeing him in Deadpool2 so I guess he got some decent coverage in his scene.
Ulrich, I am following the new build with interest.
Well, best get going.
My wife watched it, and now I am hearing her play-by-play commentary on it... probably for the rest of the day.
HEY DINERS!
Kevin, I was referencing both songs Convoy and Around the World with the Rubber Duck!
I AM TYPING AS AN OFFICIAL DIPLOMA BEARING HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE!!!
Eveing Diners
Flo, give the gang and I a and Rick and Steven what they like.
Brent Never mind, but what to I have to do to move to BC?
Work Front Sure better than last Saturday but by normal standerds still sad with only $1133.00 in sales.
Big News on the PRR Coach Wars! The Centfaun lives! I have been running for about a hour and it is working fine. 7 Heavy Weight Pullman Cars looks just about right behinde a PRR M1a. But, 8 would look better!
Ed Do you still run PRR Pullmans?
Heney the so called tail on the back of the Dutches dress is call a Train. My self I like long trains. No, I did not watch the wedding but my wife did. Could not belivie she got up at 4:45 AM our time to watch it? Heck when I had to get up at 5:00 AM for work, I could not pry her out of bed!
Later, Ken
Hello, Folks...
It has been a little rainy around these parts so there's only one thing to do — trains!

Hey, Ken ol' buddy. I'd have to say 'yep, sure do'!

Brent, good choice on the 1/3rd size P-C! I wound up having a Mojito. Cool, minty, refreshing
I hope everyone is having a good weekend.
Windows 10 decided to have a longer update, which took over an hour to complete! Normally, that would have been a big nuisance for me, but today I made use of the extra time to conduct a few more tests and also to start test fitting the catenary.
The test revealed that I forgot to place the base plates under the bridge ends, which act as a kind of abutment while at the same time providing a slight vertical easement to the grade. Without those two plates, the cars kept uncoupling from the loco, with the base plates, all is just fine!
The catenary is quite easy to install - unlike the Sommerfeldt system I used for my Swiss layout and which finally made me give it up on it. The masts just clip on to the track and the stamped metal "wires" just clip into the wire hangers - that´s all! OK, the curves require some bending, but that´s also not a big job!
The good old Marklin system was designed for the average dad, who knows how to handel a small drill and a screwdriver. No soldering required, which suits me fine!
Here are a few pics taken early this morning:
Tinplate train sets are fun!
Now if you please excuse me - the Sunday morning train taking the worshippers to the morning Pentecost service is ready to leave the station!
Good morning (actually midday),
Starting to head home.
I tuned into the Horseshoe Curve Webcam last night and this morning, last night you could hear something riding the horn but couldn't see anything. This morning I saw an NS Executive train with four Fs on the lead and ABBA set.
Thanks for all the graduation congratulations guys!
NWP SWPI tuned into the Horseshoe Curve Webcam last night and this morning, last night you could hear something riding the horn but couldn't see anything.
The Preakness was almost the same thing. Local coverage started at 10 am and another excuse for women to wear ridiculous hats, but no trains on the their dresses, thanks Ken.
The sun is out today, Hallelujah.
Not so sure my check valve on the sump pump is leaking after all. I hear water flowing into the pit(?) while it is still pumping. Servicemaster, the flood and fire clean up people are making the rounds of my neighborhood.
I avoided reading Randy Rinker's thread on something about a photo in the latest MR. Now that I finished it, I can't find his thread. I feel the hand of cousin Vinnie. Can somebody let me in on the secret before he comes to work on Monday?
I am using Great Stuff spray foam to glue another 3/4" layer onto my foam layout. I need to carve a grade into it as well as a canyon and I was afraid a layer of gorilla glue would gum up the works. I did use some gorilla glue on a different layer and it seems to work really well, if you realize there will be some expansion.
