I received a book from my wife. Depot Days, by H. A. (Al) Stimson, from 1972. Apparently his father was an agent for the CN&W and NP in SD, then the author also worked for the RR. Apparently ending his career with FEC in Lake Worth. Should be interesting.

I'm just getting back into this after a 30+ year absence. I got a couple of Woodland Scenics "Learning Kits" to play with scenery techniques. (I selected them, I paid for them and I put them under the tree. However, the wife did point me to the hobby shop I never knew existed. I think the exact directions to the shop were "it's over by Linens and Things." I found it anyway.)

I ended up getting an Atlas 36' woodsided reefer, a couple of Weaver cars, a subscription to Classic Toy Trains, enough money to buy some pretty decent train stuff[:)].

Nothing in my stocking, but UPS dropped off a good load of flex track, some turnouts, and a new tech 4 260. Now maybe for my birthday on 1/6 I can order some more stuff.

Sorry, it doesn't. But the dummy will couple with the Kadee on the tender of the M-1, and you can have a Pennsy TRIPLE header! I did it, and it was almost too much for the old ticker, it looked so spectacular. And talk about NOISY!!!

Heh!

Lets just say that I'm not putting thought into MY gifts anymore, lol.

None of my gifts (from my parents anyway) are even "practical". I still got clothes and stuff from last Christmas that I haven't worn yet and I got even more this year. On top of that, I don't even have space for it.

I could go on but this is a train forum so...............

No trains in the stocking this year. But LOTS of books. Spent the last couple of days reading The PRR in Indiana. Very interesting.

For the last few years I have asked for trees. This year I got the universal gift card to go shopping and Hobby Lobby has their annual train sale the week after Christmas. I now have 134 new trees and other goodies for the new year to keep me busy. I also got 2 TCS decoders for my Amtrak E8 A/B. All in all a very good train Christmas.

Well, the 'wishlist' contained a barstool for the e/c/o/o (Engineer/Conductor/Owner/Operator) aka me,
a Dremmel, and GC's to my favorite LHS. Received was a 29" barstool, about 2 weeks early as CFO (wife) said it was too big to wrap and hide, a Dremmel AND Accessory Kit ( note that accessory kit not on 'wishlist), 1 $50 gc to my fav LHS, and a 3-in-1 Lexmark 5150M Printer/Copier/Scanner so I can make 'mock-up's'. I think the Jolly ole Elf was much too kind to me this year!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

I got a BLI E unit Wabash flavored. I purchased it off e-bay, wrapped it and secretly added it to the pile. At least I got something I wanted that way!

All of my stuff was gotten for myself, but heck, I was a good boy last year, wasn't I? [}:)] Mixed results, even so...

- Lionell Veranda Turbine- whoo boy! Problem is, it was DOA. LHS said 2-3 weeks before Lionel would replace/fix/whatever. [V]
- Digitrax Super Empire Builder- currently reading through the manual, but want to get the track on the portable layout laid/wired well before I dig in and install. Plus, need to get a more basic throttle (like UT1/UT2) for the 3-year-old co-engineer- even I'm a little intimidated by the included monster throttle. [:o)]
- Bachmann 2-6-2 Prairie- mostly for the co-engineer to enjoy watching connecting rods and valve gear running. Unfortunately, this was DOA as well [:O]- buzzes but won't move. Looks properly quartered, so I've got to decide between possibly voiding the warranty and digging inside to look for problems, or sending it back to Bachmann (got via mail order, unfortunately, so can't just take it back easily.)
- Atlas H16-44 w/ DCC- as mentioned, don't have the DCC hooked up yet, but this worked VERY nicely last night as the "First Train" on the new portable layout.

The family knows better than to try and guess what I want for the layout (though a gift certificate from the LHS is always appropriate). So I went last week and picked myself up a CF7 (love that funky look!) and several pieces of rolling stock...I played my own Santa Dude!

My daughter did pick me up Sam Posey's new book, though, "Playing With Trains".

My wife gave me a railroad-style pocket watch on a chain--I am always breaking the watchband on my El Cheapo wristwatches. And she scratchbuilt me a train-theme book bag to carry to books to graduate school. Has squares all over the outside with pictures of historic locomotives, and the inside lining is fabric printed with railroad tracks!

I received trains out the wazoo this year! The key to my success was well planned and supported by my significant other. I usually visit my main LHS 3 or 4 times a year. As I order things, they put them on a shelf for me and hold them until I get a chance to run down there (or in the case today - I really wanted to be one of the first to have something - see this post at: http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27202). So anyway, I let my orders pile up and made a very large purchase before Thanksgiving. I inventoried everything and then the wife took control of it all and 'hid' it all from me. Then as family members asked what should they get me for Christmas, she would show them the stash and let them buy them from her. They would take them home, wrap them, and them give them to me. I have one more family function to attend this weekend where I will receive more of my pre-selected goodies. After that, the wife will let me have what's did get purchased by the family. Even my in-laws think this is a great idea as they know they are getting me rolling stock or vehicles that I will actually use on my layout. The money the wofe collected all goes toward the credit card used to make the initial purchase. Life is great!!!
