Trains in your stocking?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, December 24, 2004 5:16 PM
How many of you [who celebrate Christmas] are expecting to find model trains among your cache of gifts?

I don't --- NOT because of any hostility to my hobby [my wife is VERY supportive], but rather because my family has learned that trying to buy trains for a late-stage MRR like myself is like buying clothes for a teenage girl - it probably won't be EXACTLY what I wanted. So this time of year is when my inventories of shirts, socks and underwear get replenished [:D] - I never bother buying such mundane things on my own time!

BTW, Merry Christmas!

Well, in the stocking, I might find a small train-related thing, but it's in the present boxes that I am hopeful...

I know I am getting a Bachmann Spectrum N scale 2-8-0 Consolidation Steam TrainMaster set for Christmas. That one will be under the tree. In my stocking, I don't know. My girlfriend gave me a Lionel 100th Anniversary Alarm Clock. I got Railroad Tycoon II Platnum from a coworker Jim. From the boss, Mr. Purkey, and another coworker, Tom, I got $60 in gift certificates to spend on trains. I got a glass train ornament from a Craftsman Art employee, Pauline. Tis a train Christmas for me!

I will be getting some...
I picked it out at the train show, and have been waiting since then to get it. Other than that, like you said, people can't ever pick exactly what you wanted. It won't be the right brand or paint scheme, even if it is the right idea.

I would have had the new 4-6-6-4 challenger from Athearn.....if only USPS had got their fingers out and shifted it over here a bit quicker! (Now it'll be sometime in the new year that I'll get it!)

THAT DOES IT, I'M GETTING A KEYBOARD WITH NO @$#^% TAB KEY! EVER!
NEXT CHRISTMAS! NO TAB KEY! THAT'S WHAT I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS, A COMPUTER KEYBOARD WITH NO ###$$*&TAB KEY!
Okay, now that I'm over that--what I want for Christmas isn't available until January or February, so I'll just get it myself. I'll just put up with the sweaters, the sweat-suits, the cute GET FUZZY calendars and all the love my family seems to be able to spread out 365-24/7. And come the month it's available, I'll just go down and get my own Christmas present--that BLI Santa Fe 2-10-2, that after all of the delays, had BETTER sound like I remember it when I was a kid--a Thompson sub-machine gun.

Oh, I can't stand the esc key. I've hit that and lost more than one post... a lot more than just one.

I once got a mini fake christmas tree for the layout. Now to somehow get tortoises or something else that can't be screwed up. lol

I ordered a P2K 2-8-8-2 earlier this year and am ancitipating it's arrival. I was able to dispose of some unwanted items on Ebay and raise the funds for it.

The big one is the BLI J1 PRR engine that will be a present for the year. Of course I am allowed a small amout to replenish my paints, supplies and a few kits. The absence of the train shows this year except Pine Bluff helped alot as that money was not spent. The next show will be in march and april so I probably will be told "Look, dont spend" he he.

Merry christmas all.

I got a badger 155 Anthem Air brush. Also refill leads for my Staedler Compass and an erasing shield. The last two seem irrelevent but for a good scale layout drawing they are essential. My father surprised me with four NYO&W Coffee cups. Really cool!!!
