Is it just me?
Posted by SpaceMouse on Sunday, February 18, 2018 1:28 PM

Or is this a hobby where everything is two steps forward one step back?

When I look at it, things started going wonky when I caught the flu. But I've been working when I can, and progress is really slow. I figure I have until June 1, before I have 2 months of too hot to work on the layout.

Today I got a notice for Jury Duty.

It is NOT just you.  Though if you could arrange it to be, it would be appreciated by the rest of us.

Maybe we can get the NWP-SWP kid to do it. He's still young.

Howdy, the "kid" here, I'm missing the topic of this thread a little...

Please enlighten me...

Basically, we want you to take all our bad luck so we can skate through the hobby.

BTW check out my comment on your history post.

It seems everything I do in this hobby involves some sort of unforseen circumstance.

.

Frankly, I am glad it happens in the hobby and not in the house remodel! So far we have not hit any big surprises.

Just what you don't need.  Notified twice, only half a day in the court house, first they didn't want to milk my cows and do related chores, now I'm too creeky.

On the brighter side, maybe you'll be called to serve in an air conditioned court room during those two months.

Good luck,

Richard

Chip, I'm confused...

You got notified of jury duty on a Sunday?

Doesn't everybody?

My wife had some sort of potluck thingy and didn't get the mail yesterday. My daughter checked the box today and found it.

It's the desert. We do things different out here.

Chip ..

I have days when it is two steps backward and one step forward.

I have been on jury duty since mid-December.  So far no jury trials in our little county. Good thing. Our AZ trip begins in a few days.

What are the odds?  I got my jury duty notice yesterday.  It says to bring reading material because there can be very slow waiting times - as I know from prior experience.  So I am prepared; at yesterday's train show in Madison WI I scored an inexpensive copy of Jeff Wilson's book on freight car detailing.  Perfect! If I understand the Kalmbach website correctly they have let it go out of print but really it could be reissued today and still be totally useful and relevant.

Can you imagine being a Tagger and getting a jury of Model Railroaders?

For many of us that is true, except (how do I put it nicely) we aren't as vocal about it.

Well I guess I am not as civic minded as you all. I avoided it for many years as I had a Maryland ID card and those uded to no expire, ever. Mine finally fell apart and had to get a Calif. one and promply got a notice, didn't mind because my work at the time paid me to be there, got more over the years but the last one I got I was in the procces of moving out of county, return to sender. As to the topic at hand, luck can be what you make it but of course not always, but a lot of bad luck in model railroading is bad planning and inferior work, I relize not everone has the same skills but in things like tracklaying, being carefull will minimise the problems etc.

With any "luck," I'll get to the track laying part next week.  (pretend there is an emotocon for crossed fingers)

You mean is just us whiners that do. Please forgive my indulgence. Since I got this flu, whining is about all I can do well.

Space mouse - if the tracks don‘t get laided, there is always another day. It’s not a race and having the flu, in my book, excuses everything. Be well!

I read about bad luck and had to jump in b/c I've had my fair share on the 1st layout.  The good news is learning important lessons for the next one and enjoying successes whenever and however they arise.

Being sick is the worst but you could be stuck home with three young kids, like myself.  Wanna trade or babysit?
