Heartland Division CB&Q

Where is everybody else this morning ?

I'm here. I have to be here. Wink I might not be here tomorrow, though. Depending on what forecaster you believe, we're due for anywhere from 1" - 10" of the white stuff tomorrow. If it ends up on the upper end of that range, I just might have a 3-day weekend. Sad

Edit: Ooh, top of page 5. We've entered The Twilight Zone. Hot chocolate's on me.

No, not that Hot Chocolate! This one:

Though the first one's not bad. Big Smile

Mornin' folks!

Ah, yes.... Steven, there doesn't seem to be a way to get to page -1......  Hmmmmmm.  I guess that would be the next to the last page of last month's diner?  We are looking at sn*w tomorrow here in the Finger Lakes region of NYS also.  Only calling for 1" to 3"s so that should not be a problem.  Sun is out shining at the moment and I just saw some white stuff slide off the solar panels on the roof of my house.  Yep there goes another bunch!  Yes, that means the panels are getting enough energy to heat up and clear.  I probably should go out and use the roof rake and help them along a bit......

I just downloaded the form to sign up for the "Op 'till You Drop" weekend that the NMRA Division next door puts on every year.  The date is after most of my surgeries and other procedures so I guess I will plan on going agin this year.  Had a great time last year and got to operate on some world class layouts.  One of those layouts is owned by a gent who took "Best in Show" at the National NMRA Convention several years back!  His layout is one of the best of the best in the world!  Probably will ask to be at his layout again this year...

Have to take "Blackie" over to the vet for a blood test (Diabetes) today, then pick up an Rx at the pharmacy.  But, I think I may get a bit of Division work done for my NMRA Division.  We have to get moving on our Spring Meet.  May also get a few minutes to paint topsoil on some scenery areas I am working at the moment..

. . .there doesn't seem to be a way to get to page -1. . .

When we get to the infamous Page 5, the way to get to Page 4 is to click on the link to Page 3, then from there, click on the link to Page 4. (Mr. O: Any chance this will ever be fixed?)

It is 10c under blue skies here on the Left Coast of Canuck Land.

Need to try and get to the electronics store to pick up some resistors at some point. It is about a $14.00 drive, so will combine it with a Costco run as they are close to each other.

Gone back to hopping over the border to fill the truck as our fuel prices have jumped considerably. Ours go up and then the price in the U.S. goes up a few weeks later, then ours go down followed by the U.S. a few weeks later. It takes me 18 minutes round trip to save $45.00 on a fill.

Have to go to the school for parent teacher interviews today. I hate doing that, the teachers just say how great my daughter is doing and to carry on. She has a near perfect GPA as do most students there, however, I guess they have the meetings just to touch base. She goes to a hoity toity private school and being a blue collar kind of guy, I am really out of my element there. I was a solid "B" student, a real dummy compared to these kids.

#1 son is sick again. Universities must be a real germ fest. We have been talking a lot about his TV/Movie work. Apparently, they are making a Deadpool TV series this Summer, however, Amazon is doing a "Lord of the Rings" TV series. Amazon pays really well.  Deadpool would be a lot more fun as there is lots of physical activity involved with it, however, Lord Of The Rings will do a better job filling his wallet. At least he will be busy and have choices. Also, Lord of the rings probably means a lot more time in the makeup chair to turn him into something which is even more money. In the past, he has had people bringing him coffee and breakfast while they have turned him into things, not of our world.

imgbb is giving me grief today. It won't load photo's, so here is one from the other day. Day 37. Child molesting.

The wife has been pruning roses like crazy and I need to get the green bins to the curb and I need to order a load of topsoil to level out the lawn as it is almost seeding time, so best get at it. All of a sudden my train time has turned into garden time.Tongue TiedLaugh

All the best to all.

Add on edit: Just went to move the rose bits and noticed the Dafodils are coming up. Welcome to Spring everyone.Whistling

Afternoon Diners,

Brent- Those look like nice playful puppies.

Ed- You take really good pictures. I'm a little sad that the roundhouse is gone. Those railroad maintenance crew repairing track is fascinating.

Steven- Thanks for the hot chocolate (drink).

I find a new old stock Erie Railroad 1932 boxcar with the 1942 logo for $17 dollars. I also bought 2 narrow gauge boxcars for $81 and I saved $80 bucks.

Thank you, Angelo. Don't be sad, there will be a brand-spanking new roundhouse built on the existing foundations. Capital improvements for my little workers.

Afternoon All!

Snow, Snow, Snow! No, No, No! Yet more snow on top of what we already have. Of course, the other problem that results is Cold, Cold, Cold! Pretty much the entire state is under a winter storm warning:

Alert:
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM MST
FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerous travel conditions. Periods of heavy snow,
possibly mixed with freezing rain and sleet through late
afternoon. Heaviest snow expected this evening. Additional
snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches.

* WHERE...Portions of South Central and all of Southeast Montana.

* WHEN...Until 11 PM MST Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in
visibility at times. Cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero
will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed
skin.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions are occurring. If you must travel, keep an extra
flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency.
For the latest road conditions, call 5 1 1.
Additional graphics for this hazard can be found at

We seem to be having a typical La Niña winter: cold and wet!

Projects: Lots of them: Working on a GN boxcar purchased online. (Decal set ordered to rework a little.) The SW1200 needs a few more decals and the beacon replaced. The shell fell off the holder and the beacon top when to parts unknown. (Most likely Monday to finish the decals and the beacon parts have been ordered.) The SD40-2 is also on the active list again. (Front coupler should be here soon. Needed a 141 coupler and didn't have one on hand.) The NP caboose still needs windows, the ladder and brake wheel mounts drilled (they mount to the complete other side of the caboose), and the roof walks installed.

Walks in with a long face. Sigh

Flo, give the gang a Beer and Rick and Steven a Coke. Yes, leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Reason I ended my post yesterday so abroutlly? Seems my PCM Y6-b has threw  rod! Engine was running fine then stalled. Lights and sound was working but would not move or chuff. Hoping a decoder reset will get her going again but not holding my breath. If I am lucky it will just be decoder, but then again where would I find a Loksound 3.0 21 pin Y6-b decoder?

First thing I will try is a decoder reset. Next will be looking at the wiring from tender to engine to make sure it has not came lose. Then followed by pulling the engine shell to make sure the motor and siderods will move. I will all so try installing the PCM Big Boy 21 Pin Louksound decoder. After that I will be lost? Well I will also try it on DC.

Sure cannot complaiin any, I have well over 4000 hours of fun and worked her hard! Would not be surprised if she has ran 300 real miles in her life!

Blood Surgar Front. Seems that is coming under better controll. Eating more seafood has helped. I am down to a 14 day avg from 162 to 132.

 Later, Ken

Well, we share the same storm.  That streak that goes through Montana, the Dakota's and Minn., stretches right to me.

On this end, we are told 8" to 10".  Oh well, It's winter.  My LEDs from Evans have arrived, and I will be snowed in, working on some projects.

My next DCC install is a MRL SD40-2, #250.  Fitting that I used the chassie and drive from an Athearn SD40-2, with a shell decorated for the BN.  The real MRL 250 was BN 6377.

No complaining, northern California, Oregon and Washington are beautiful. Admit it, the real reason you don't move is that, a warmer climate will cut into your model railroading time and you are all addicts.

Good evening all.

Zoe - I see Ken got me a Coke, I will add a slice of apple pie to that, please. Thanks!

Ray (Howmus) - The way I look at it, page -1 is the last page of last month, and page 0 is the time the diner was "in transit" between our monthly locations. Smile, Wink & Grin

SteveO - I always wondered what it was like to be "in" "The Twilight Zone"... Guess we now know! It's just as odd as I expected.... With some very interesting hot chocolate..... Hence the reason I will take the Coke instead, although now I'm thinking I should request it be a Pepsi, just to be safe...

Zoe - Can I change to a Pepsi and a slice of apple pie? Thanks.....

Ken - Yep... I can relate to that one! Worst one was the customer looking for a "American Multi-meter" as opposed to a "Metric Multi-meter." (Yes, I asked him to explain what he meant by "American Multi-meter" and he said he wanted one that "reads in American measures, not Metric." Confused)

My immediate thought was "This guy is gonna hurt himself" shortly followed by "There is no way I'm selling this guy ANYTHING to do with electrical stuff." While I wanted to say "You need to hire a professional, as you are stupid enough to hurt yourself", what I did say was "I'm sorry, we don't carry those" and let him leave that way.

And I almost said that exact thing last night...

W*^k -

Last night I had a "gentleman" interrupt another customer, to tell me that "The price on (this item) is wrong." I asked him to explain, and he did, by saying that it can't be 30% off if it was only $90 cheaper than 3 weeks ago. My response was, "It is the correct price, as it is 30% off of MSRP. What you saw 3 weeks ago was not MSRP, but a sale price. I believe it was a 15-20% off sale that week, on selected items."

The "gentleman" then told me that I obviously can't do simple math, to which I very irritatedly answered I could, and proved it by telling him, based on quick math, the items MSRP is this price, as this price, minus 30%, is the exact price on that tag, and then explained it, step by step, to show the math equation. I then removed our 30% off sign and proved my point, as I had the MSRP to the penny. (He should not have said I can't do simple math!)

The "gentleman" then stated that this was just not right, as the advertisement said 30% off sale. I then said that the price is exactly that, 30% off. He then stated that it should be cheaper, and that if I didn't make it cheaper, he wasn't buying it, or anything else.

I told him that, in that case, I would not be selling him anything, and that he could have himself a good night, and went back to my other customer.

My other customer then, loudly, said, "Thank you!", and then, for the "gentleman's" benefit, loudly said "That snowblower right there, we were talking about before we were so rudely interrupted, I want to purchase it, right now."

The "gentleman" walked out in a huff. Laugh

I got the biggest kick out the whole exchange!

Weather - Snow. Snow. Snow.

Nothing else new...

Hope all are well, and all have a good night!

We don't get as much snow here in Bradford but I'm still going to have to get the snow blower out. It kills my back!

OK, so you are just trying to remind me of nice things to come. Well, over the years Dianne and I have planted hundreds of crocuses. I don't know why we keep trying. The rabbits eat every one of them in a day or so.

Thought I'd share one of the newest additions to my music library (new in the sense that I just started listening to it and it is one of the most recently recorded songs in my libraryLaugh)

I have to admit that I get sweet feelings of revenge on winter when I'm digging into the drifts with my snow blower! That is as long as I don't get any snow down my neck! That sort of ruins the mood.

For what it is worth, we have had an exceptionally warm (hot?) winter. Yesterday we topped out at 85F. That is way too warm for February. Hopefully it will temper before summer hits.

morning all. Hope every one is having a good day. Last day of vacation for me (tomorrow is, but, I have a wedding to attend).

Started A diet a couple weeks ago, and I think it's going well. I give myself one "cheat dat"  week...usually Sunday. But, I'm making changes. I've switched my lunch to yogurt and water, I'm eating  one portion per meal, and no eating at least two hours before I go to sleep. I'll wait until next month to weigh myself though.

So thid actually happened this morning,

Its small, but it's a start. Stephen king novels have two uses apparently  Entertainment and they weigh a ton together with all his hardbacks.

Well, a couple options showed up for a second job, and I'm investigating them.   Hope everyone has a good day

Top of the page.

Also, if you like that song, you'll probably like this one, which is one of my current favorites. I saw that they played it live on the ABC New Year's Eve special.

hey all. today was definitely a let down. The second job I had looked for....not hiring any longer.  That was a crushing moment for me. Guess it's back to looking for any options again, since 7.45 is not able to live off of.   plus  want out of retail so bad, as I am sure plenty here can sympathize with.

Good afternoon from the beautiful East side of the Pacific basin just above the forty-ninth.

Just got back from a looooong walk with the dogs. Not sure how many KMs we walked, but was a lot. There was a movie crew in the park at sun up, however, they were packed up and gone by the time we got there, so have no idea what was being shot. There must have been thirty trucks there earlier, all gone in short order.

My daughter has got a lot of music out and set up on the Grand and is currently playing Moonlight SinatraWhistling So here I sit listening, it may be a long post.Laugh She plays so beautifully. She really likes movie music and playing the music from lost is my favourite. I have my request in.

Jimmy, have you ever thought of a Government job? When I graduated High school a bunch of my friends were like me and were done with school. We still see each other, one is an air traffic controller and made $185,000.00 last year. The other started as a deckhand in the coast guard and is now a first officer on a smaller ship and he made $124,000.00 last year. I started working for the Feds right out of High school and looked at every job posting, in every department that came out every month and moved through a few different jobs. I came across this job in Government logistics that looked interesting and put in for it. I loved it and was allowed to work all the overtime I wanted. I could take my overtime as time off if I wanted and some years took three or four months off and traveled all over the place. If I worked 10 hours overtime on a Saturday and 10 hours overtime on a Sunday, both at double time that was a week off.  I would always do a 24 hour shift on Christmas day so the married guys could be home. That was triple time, so for working one 24 hour shift, I got nine days off. I would go for weeks without a day off sometimes and I often had days that were more than 24 hours long. Both the guys I mentioned above got into their jobs because I was the first one to get a job with the Feds and told them who was hiring and we all have had very comfortable lives.

I really enjoy the music video's that get posted here. It introduces you to lots of things you haven't heard before as well as blast from the past. Crooner Steve, I could not view yours, did your forget to pay the bill?Laugh

Had doggie friends over last night and they brought this huge spread of Vietnamese food over and we went through a few bottles of wine.Whistling They brought kids who did the driving home, so all was good. I often wonder who is weirder, dog people of train people.HmmLaugh I play with trains and the rest of the family runs around in circles with a dog in tow hoping to get a blue ribbon.Indifferent

Well, I think I will go airbrush all my light hats for the roundhouse. I have lots of green paint and every light that Canadian Pacific ever owned I think was green, so it should be easy. Looking at those tiny LEDs  I need to solder and not lose, I feel like I did when I did my first solo in an airplane or going off the high diving board for the first time. I like getting out of my comfort zone though, it gets easier each time. But then there was the time I was scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the small sharks that were inhabiting the area were larger than I had expected. By my third dive, I was comfortable again. Sort of.Laugh

Daughter has finished lost themes so, time to go turn on the compressor.

All the best to all.

I bought my daughter the music for Lost a few years ago and left it on the piano as a hint. She cranks the stereo now and plays along with these guys.
