Good morning ..... Coffee and a pecan roll please.

Another Amtrak crash is being reported. 2 fatalities. Numeorus injuries..... Head-on crash with CSX freight train in South Carolina.

Ricky .... I wish you the best with job hunting. Perhaps, a job with a long commute is better than no job at all. So it might be good to stay with this employer until you get what you want.

I added a Woodland Scenics roadside fruit stand to my 1900 era scene yesterday.

Happy Model Railroading

Morning Gang! (Its good to be back) Just a quick piece of that Danish you have back there, and a glass of milk, please. I am off to a Train Show in Indianapolis. It’s just GTE, so mostly commercialized stuff, but should be fun none the less. Let’s see. I think there’s something important tonight? Oh, that’s right, the funny commercials are supposed to be on! Wait, tha’s not right... Looks like I get to play Plumber too, the flush lever in my toilet just snapped in half. LOOKS easy enough, just unscrew the flush handle, unhook the chain, slip the new one in. 20 minke job, so I’ll be done next month. ;) Someone tell me again why I thought leaving the nest was a GOOD idea? Have a great day, folks!

Afternoon All!

Took the day off from work. (No it has nothing to do with the Big Game. Just needed to get away from work.) Turns out I picked a good day to do  it. Friday night we got hit with rain which froze and turned the entire town into a skating rink. Getting to work yesterday was interesting. I managed to end up on my back in a crosswalk. (Early enough there was no traffic. Didn't end up with any major problems. My neck was a little stiff at the end of the day.) Took me 40 minutes to get 2/3 of the way. A nice driver got me the rest of the way. Then later yesterday morning we got hit with snow. (The snow I think helps with traction a little but getting stuck also has happened.) It also brought COLD.

Working on the SW1200 some more. Gettting the beacon and the window and sunshade attached.(Want to get it done before the yard where it's going gets done.)

Also decided to work further on a boxcar project. Unfortunately, I broke a detail on one of the doors. I should have more doors here somewhere. But that project had been sitting for a bit so there's not rush.

Given the cold, I decided to get stuf to make dinner. I will be making Hawaiian Rigitoni. (Rigitoni with cubed ham, pineapple, bacon and Alfredo sauce.)

The rigitoni reminds me of a MASH quote:

Hawkeye (speaking about an artery graft): This looks like a piece of spagettini, we need rigatoni!
Kellye: Doctor, I am part Chinese and part Hawaiian. Can you put that in ethnic measurements I can understand?
Hawkeye: A small egg roll.
Kellye: That I understand.

Went back to Timonium and got the 4-6-0 for $79.  Now I can't find my foam craddle and the small phillips screw drivers.  It came with an uninstalled Lenz decoder that I was going to try out.

Track problem somewhere ahead of this stopped train @ Horseshoe.  It's been there almost 2 hours.  Snow doesn't capture well on the screen shot.  I'm told these are M88 tank recover vehicles.

Evening Diners,

The Eagles won the Super Bowl 52 which is a good thing. I can't stand another Patriots win, which a lot of people believe that their cheating and fixed.

I watched a nice marathon of Air Disasters on the Smithsonian channel. It's one of my favorite shows on tv.

Goodnight diners,

I was just typing a post and was nearly at the end when "Aw, snap" the Web page froze! I lost all the typing I did so here I go again!

Anyone else curious as to the cause of the rash of Amtrak incidents of late? Huh?

FRRYkid, I remember that M*A*S*H quote! anyone remember this quote from CBS's other war comedy?

Cpl. Langenscheidt: The mess sergeant would like to know what you and your guest would like for dinner.

Major Bonacelli: [speaks Italian] Antipasto, minestrone, pasta al dente.

[Langenscheidt nods]

Col. Wilhelm Klink: Langenscheidt! We will potato soup, boiled potatoes, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, and sauerbraten.

Cpl. Langenscheidt: Ja, Herr Kommandant.

[he leaves]

Col. Robert E. Hogan: [to Bonacelli] Bon appetit.

[Bonacelli looks nauseated]

Modeling (Eastern/RussianLaugh) front,

I have been doing a lot of on paper work for my railroad such as the details of its history, liveries, heralds, etc...

I have found another project for the NWP-SWP shops, an American double Garratt type Big Boy perhaps with four cylinders per "engine" two HP two LP, this is just another idea to file away as a future kit bash not an immediately planned project!

I am in the process of saving up for a decoder for the PA I have courtesy of Ed, details, paint, decals for the 40ft wood boxcar BB kit I have, decals and paint for the buildings I have, and of course the tools to take the shell of the dummy Amtrak P42 and use it to make one of the powered units a cabless booster unit and then decoders, paint, and decals for the set...

I stumbled upon a very funny meme of Sgt. Schultz acting as the old Dos Equis guy saying "I don't always know something... But when I do, I know nothing!" one of the funniest things I have ever heard! I might put that quote in my signature I don't know or I know nothing! Laugh

Some of it is the news media. The media act like the accidents are linked together somehow. They are not. Each resulted from different circumstances. .....

There is a very long thread in the Trains Magazine Forum on the topic of the CSX/Amtrak crash in South Carolina..... There is another thread there about the Amtrak train with Congressmen aboard that hit the truck in Virginia .... You can go to that forum for more conversations on the accidents if you want.

Henry .... I like your photo of the M88's on flat cars...

Ed ....... I like your photo of the steel mill cars.

You got out of town at a good time.  Chicago, and Southern WI. are getting more as I type.  3" to 5" through the night, another blast on Thursday, and a supposed biggy coming on Saturday.

After about 10 trys, yesterday, I deleted by signature stuff, so my post should "fit" in eveyones device now.  Yep, about 10 trys.  I'd go to settings, delete it all, save the page, it's all gone, log off, come back about an hour later, and it's all back.  I did that all day and finially it worked.  I thought I might have to wait for the office to open today, to get some help.

Sad day.  The Patriots lost to the Iggles (or, as my wife calls them, "that ¥&%¢¿&£ dog killer's team").  If Brandin Cooks hadn't gotten a concussion and if they had any defensive players who could tackle, they might've won.  Matt Patricia looked scared on the sidelines, as if he suddenly realized his defensive players would have difficulty with a Pop Warner team.  I personally have a problem with fans from a city where they riot at the drop of a hat, and booed Mike Schmidt, Julius Erving, and a host of others who played for the Ideahome[\i] team.

And then, there was the CSX-Amtrak wreck.  From the sound of it, it may have been caused by carelessness.  Just a tragedy.  Hopefully the politicians won't try to exploit the situation for their own benefit.  (Well, I can hope.)

One thing no one has said is, what was the number of the CSX AC4400 that was demolished in the wreck?  The trailing unit was # 36, which seemed fine from pics I saw online, but the lead unit understandably looks like it was run through a shredder down at Weitzman's scrap yard.  Hopefully it wasn't # 7, which has been a favorite of mine ever since I saw pics of it online.

I'm hanging in there, still dealing with Dad's passing.  Then, about three weeks ago, the police found my aunt lying on her living room floor dead.  It's a damn shame.  About the only good thing is, my brother took in her orphaned basset hound.  Between the baying dog and the clucking chickens and crowing boosters around his home, he may soon want to buy new noise-cancelling headphones!

Be well.

Hey all.  Been a bad day for me.  First day of vacation, but my mental health problems are really hitting today.  I guess the upcoming valentines garbage set me off today.  Then, the wood i got for free to build a module kept splitting when I was trying to drive a screw into it to make the frame.  Then the Amtrak wreck on sunday upset me to.  Just seeing the remains of the amtrak unit made me feel sick.  The whole cab was vaporized, as was the cab of the CSX unit.

Ugh, I hope tomorrow is a better day for me/

Oh btw, the units demolished were Amtrak 47 and CSX 13.

And what was with that goofy trick play, where Brady never really tried to catch the pass????  Come on.  A receiver should have been there. And his offensive line was terrible.

It's the Eagles first, cool. I had no skin in game, I'm a Packers fan. Smile, Wink & Grin

Really sorry about your Dad and your Aunt.

Jimmy, drill holes first!  The piece your running the screws though, needs to have a hole the same size as the shank of the screw, the upper part, where there are no threads, and if it's a flat head screw, you also need a counter sink bit, to make a place for the tapered screw head, and  the piece your screwing in to,  needs to have a pilot hole the size of the inner shank, that the screw threads are part of, not the overall size of the threads.

Have a great night everyone!

Mike.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang a round of Beer and RBF's and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Funny thing happen at work, they closed at 6:30 PM and forgot to call me? Whistling Forcast was for frezzing rain and I started to get some, but not a lot. Could wipe it off my windsheild with my hand. Was talking with Larry Morris at the Florsant Mo store around 6:30 PM and the store was as dead as mine. Told him I would call back before closing. Was engrossed in a Clive Cussler Inca Gold novel so time went fast.

Called Larry around 7:40 and no answer, seemed odd but could be in the restroom. Called again at 7:45 still no answer, now I am worried. Larry is 77 years old! Called his cell phone and he answard on the second ring. Asked him if he was on his way home? He laughed and said I am all ready home, didn't Paul call you? Seems the compay closed at 6:30 but they forgot to tell me! Bang Head Laugh

Uncle Bob Sorry to hear about your Farther and Ant's passing! Angel I am still haunted by my father passing on Dec 15 2017.

Train Front the Might CB&Q F7's are confussed! For some reason they are iding on a spur and have been replaced with Heavy Steam? Yep there mixed freight train is be pulled my the Real Might PCM Y6-B what all steam engines want to grow up to be! Best dang engine I have ever bought!

Ed I have 2 questions for you?

1 Off the top of your head do you know the CV to change Loksound 3.0 decoder sound levels? If not I will find it on line.

2 I am running the PCM Y6-B and the PRR M1-A and both have dual speakers and large tenders. M1-A has a QSI decoder and Y6-B is Loksound. Y6-B sound great, M1-A well hollow and weak?

It it all about just the decoder's? If so, I understand why you change them out!

 Later, Ken

Good evening all.

Zoe - A nice mug of hot cocoa please... Thanks

Super Bowl - Well, I'm happy. Anybody but the Patsies won. And with two controversial calls against them too... That is the definition of irony there folks!

Weather - Cold and snowing.

Erie Pa Snow Record - Oh so close...... Was not quite enough on Sunday... But the next two days will totally eclipse the record.

W*^k - Gee Mr. Customer, I'm sorry that you can't place this order online and save an extra 1/3 off the price with a non-existent coupon and still get the one in my store. No, Mr. Customer, I can not just over-ride the price by 1/3 for your non-existent coupon and still expect to have a job tomorrow. It is already sitting at 30% off, and your alledged coupon is for 30% off. So, you are getting that price without the alleged coupon that no one can seem to find. (Probably because it doesn't exist.)

The price is what it is, take it or leave it. (All the vultures are getting annoying...)

On our sale pricing - While all "sale prices" did get pulled, only about 1/3 of our product ever has a "sale price" on it, and it is only ever 15-20% tops. All items are now 30% or more off. So, while the "sale prices" were pulled, we did that to be able to load the register with 30% off everything.

Amtrak Crash - Sad. Hate that something so stupid can still occur. Nuff' said there here.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

While I'm still here...

Ken - QSI is always a bit quieter and flatter sounding than Lok-sound for whatever reason. On my diesels I have Lok-sound units that will flat out destroy the QSI equiped ones. (Even with a smaller speaker set in the Lok-sound ones!)

No time for me to be reading at w*^k right now, too many sales!

If we sold this much in a week that we have this weekend, even with the more than doubled monthly rent we could make it!

Kinda sad in a way.... Looking at it that way.

Goodnight folks,

Superbowl, eh I really am not it sports especially one where you become a millionaire by playing a game for a living... but hey this is America so to each their own!

Amtrak crash, not saying they're related but the influx of Amtrak incidents lately is frightening! Perhaps the media is a bit more reactive not having much to report?

Modeling front, no progress perhaps tomorrow!

I'll hang around a while if I'm needed!

PS: Mike, I learned to remove info from profile settings you must delete the info from its respective field and replace it with a space or multiple spaces... Jimmy, sorry to hear about your mental health troubles, I get anxiety attacks every now and again and they are no picnic!!! Hope you feel better!

Jimmy, you're not alone in not liking all the lovey-dovey stuff accompanying Valentine's Day. It can be rough. My suggestion is, change what the day means to you. Here at Kalmbach on Valentine's Day we're having a fund-raiser for a local homeless shelter, using the theme "This Valentine's Day, share the love." You might do the same thing. Volunteer at a homeless shelter, senior care center, or animal shelter if you can. If you can't, contribute. If you can't contribute, raise awareness and encourage others to volunteer and contribute. Everyone thinks of doing these things at Christmas and Thanksgiving, then the new year starts and everyone goes back to their lives. But the need is still there. And I find that focusing on helping people in need is the best way to forget about what might be missing in my life.

Here's the homeless shelter we're helping with our Kalmbach drive, in case anyone's feeling generous.

Hello!!   Hello?  Hmmmmm.  Guess Steven O locked the doors here when he came in this morning......

Steven Otte
Here's the homeless shelter we're helping with our Kalmbach drive,

Steven O, just want you and the others at Kalmbach to know you all just went up about 20 points in my respect!  I spent a couple hours in a meeting of the MLK Committee last night where we decided to raise the amount of our College Scholarships to $3,000 and spread it over 2 years for our recipients.  For many of these kids they are the first person ever to attend college in their families.  We have many, many success stories from these kids.  (One young lady who told us she had to physically fight her brother and her dad to go to college.  She came from a culture where girls are not supposed to do things like that.  Her task in life was supposed to be to have kids......  She ended up being head of the language dept. of a well known university after she finished and received her Doctorate in Language.)  You can imagine how we felt when we considered that she got to go to college because we as a commitee and her pastor intervened and got her to college.....  For so many people what they need is to have the doors opened to a better life.  Food and shelter have to come first!

Been finishing up my tax returns.  Have the Federal one finished and will start the state retune tomorrow possibly.  Forecast for these parts is a major winter storm to hit overnight.  The warning: " ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM WEDNESDAY TO 4 AM EST THURSDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Wednesday. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are expected. * WHERE...Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties. * WHEN...From 4 AM Wednesday to 4 AM EST Thursday. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Widespread accumulating snow will create dangerous travel conditions."

Quote for the day:  "I like these cold, gray winter days.  Days like these let you savor a bad mood." - Bill Watterson

Ray, we're looking at 5-8 here on the Broome-Tioga line.  Bet it'll be more.  Why?  Because it's gloomy outside, and it just feels like a big one, plus I'm sick, so that's the way it always goes.  SoapBox

Garry, from what was posted earlier, #13 is the unlucky CSX engine.  And now today an Acela had a coupler failure, allegedly at 125 MPH.  No one was harmed, but that has to be scary (to be understated)!

Uncle Bob .... Thanks for info about CSX 13.... Also, that sounds ;ike a scary ride on Acela.

Steve O ... It is nice to hear about your office helping homeless people.

Ray ... Your volunteer work is great, too.

Often, a good way for an unhappy person to make himslf happy is to volunteer and help other people become happy. We notice when we do volunteer work, it feels good. .... Of course, model railroading is also good for sanity breaks.

Uncle Bob sorry for your losses.

Ken master volume is CV 63 in a loksound select.  I don't understand where the numbered versions fit in with the Select, but I wouldn't imagine it would be some other CV.

Ice storm forecast for tomorrow's rush hour.  Fortunately I have no where to go.  In college I was driving to school after an ice storm.  The car slowly turned backwards and continued across the center line and over a small hill. It gently came to rest against the opposite curb, still facing backwards.  There is a guardian angel.

No news on the train front.  The national news is no good news either (speaking only of trains)

Evening All!

Looks like the groundhog was right! (Unfortunately) My neck of the woods is supposed to get another 8 - 12" from Thursday to Friday. Just what we need. We got a coating of ice Friday night. (Lots of slipping & sliding and breaking. Referring to people not cars.) A layer of snow on top of that Sunday and yesterday. (School was actually cancelled on Monday as a result.) Actually improved traction a little. And then this latest storm. Probably will hold off on getting the lumber I was thinking about. Not having to do with in town conditions, it has to do with the conditions on the ranch. Didn't go out to the ranch today due to Mom hadn't been plowed out yet and she has a low sitting car. (Too prone to getting stuck.) Most likely it will not improve with the already mentioned predicted snowfall. However, I will get the pieces that I can order via the Internet staring on Thursday.
