There! Can you tell what mood I'm in?
Is anyone else having trouble posting pictures currently? I have been trying for a couple of hours to post an image and I can't get it to work properly.
FYI, I have read the instructions on how to post a photo several times and I think I am following the procedure. I made sure that the file format was jpeg. I can paste the URL into the 'Edit Image' drop down window. I have tried using both Flickr and Drop Box. No photo!
Just to add insult to injury, I managed somehow to get the 'Broken Image' icon to show up in the post, and when I right click on that I can open the image in a new tab or a new window. Don't ask me how I got the Broken Image icon to show up. I haven't a clue.
Thanks
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Hello, Dave
It seems to me that the whole internet is screwy lately, maybe the past two-weeks or so.

About half the time I try to upload or access a photo at Flickr the site is down and I get a Yahoo apology... we are trying to address the problem — we will be right back.
Most days the MB Klein, Modeltrainstuff site is V - E - R - Y slow. Taking a minute or more just to go from one page to another. Are the ISPs or servers fighting off cyber-hackers and viruses?
I hope it stabilizes soon. I have been dealing with Windows "critical updates" that leave my machines in disarray. Just today I had to deal with cleaning up two failed "updates" that left everything acting wonky. I had to go back a few days and use the recovery tools.
I did look at your plan uploaded to Dropbox and everything looked fine there.
So far my copy > paste works fine for Flickr.
Good Luck, Ed
Don't know what to say, here is a pic from the dreaded PB,
I have the $14. a year "no ad" thing from PB, we'll see if that changes, not sure when the renwal date is.

Hi Antonio:
Thanks for responding. Can you tell me what photo hosting site you are using?

Just hover your mouse over the image and the link will appear in your browsers url address bar:

Hi Ed:
Thanks for your help. I just tried to use imgur and I got the same result - no picture. That's three photo hosting sites that I can't post from. Could it be something in my settings? I haven't messed with any settings for a long time. I'm going to re-boot my computer (as opposed to re-booting my rear end) and see what happens.
Edit: I rebooted the computer and nothing has changed. Now I'm really frustrated!!!
hon30critterThanks for your help.
Help? Hardly...
Now, if you are trying to post the layout drawing, be sure it is in a .jpg format.
I've used several drawing programs and sometimes you have to use an "export" function in order to save the drawing as a "photo". Autocad is like this, it saves as a .dxf file not .jpg.
The Dropbox site usually only works if the "recipient" is also a registered Dropbox user. Anybody else gets a "please sign in" window.
These are just random thoughts...
Have you tried uploading the image to Flickr? (I thought you had a Flickr account?)
Hope you get it squared away. I share your frustration! I awoke to two computers acting all haywire. Took me an hour-and-a-half on each one to get things back to semi-normalness.
gmpullmanHave you tried uploading the image to Flickr? (I thought you had a Flickr account?)
Yes. I have tried Flickr, Drop Box and Imgur. Same results each time.

Dave,
Suggestion: Paste the photo's URL in your post so that everyone can see it and try it for themselves. That will tell you if it's a problem with your computer or the URL.

Hummm...
I hope it doesn't look like I'm trying to rub salt in your wound, Dave. I downloaded the image from Dropbox, uploaded it to Flickr, copy > pasted the link here and, well, the rest is history.
I don't understand what could be causing the glitch?
OK, here is the URL:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ll44gcephr16zl/Section%209A.jpg?dl=0
If I left click on it the link icon in the header highlights but nothing else happens. If I right click on it I get a drop box which allows me to open the link in a new tab or a new window.
Edit: OK, now I am really messed up! I just left clicked the above link and I immediately got the image. That wasn't happening before.
Thanks, Dave. Here is what I get if I:
Works for me?...Yes, it does. FYI: I'm using Windows 10 Home (Version 1709) with Firefox 58.0.

Go ahead Ed, rub all the salt you want! The process worked for you but it is not working for me. Microsoft has just done a bunch of updates on my computer. I'm thinking I'm going to do a restart to a previous date and see what happens then.
Tom:
Same answer as I just gave Ed. It seems to be working for you but it is not working for me. I'm going to back date my computer.
Of course now that everyone can see the plotting diagram, the next question is can anybody understand it?
One last thing... are you sure you are using the "BB Code" link when you copy from Flickr? Might sound elementary but sometimes it defaults back to email or embed when you want BB Code for posting in the M-R forum.
MR_Photo2 by Edmund, on Flickr
Maybe?
Good Luck again. I have had headaches with many of the stupid Windows updates lately.
With one of them I lost all the text in the drop down menus in my Adobe Photoshop and Premier Elements programs. It took me hours to patch up.
Microsoft pleaded innocent. "Could not have been anything WE did" but it was proven that it WAS!
gmpullmanOne last thing... are you sure you are using the "BB Code" link when you copy from Flickr? Might sound elementary but sometimes it defaults back to email or embed when you want BB Code.
Hi Ed,
Yes, I have copied the BB Code into the 'Edit Image' box several times and the results are still the same. If this continues I'm going to start using words that Steven Otte won't like!
Thanks again for your help.
The one thing I like about the method I use is that I don't get the extra Flickr info (i.e. IMG_6762_fix by Edmund, on Flickr) displayed at the bottom of the photo - like what's shown in Ed's earlier posts.
Don't use the "Insert/Edit image" icon.
Simply hit Crtl + V to paste the text of the link into your reply.
Go ahead... try it.
I'll be waiting.
If I do that, Ed, it just pastes the link with no photo...unless you were talking to Dave.
tstageIf I do that, Ed, it just pastes the link with no photo...unless you were talking to Dave.
Yeah, Tom. I was trying to catch Dave while he was still here. If he pastes the Flickr link into the MR "Insert/edit image" text box the link won't work.
hon30critterYes, I have copied the BB Code into the 'Edit Image' box several times and the results are still the same.
So, that might be his dilemma...
The way I've been linking to Flickr I'm keeping the ID code attached to the photo because, as far as I can see, it is Flickr's policy:
https://www.flickr.com/help/guidelines
Link back to Flickr when you post your Flickr content elsewhere.Flickr makes it possible to post content hosted on Flickr to other web sites. Pages on other web sites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr. This provides a way to get more information about the content and the photographer.
Just playing safe...
Cheers! Ed
Ed,
That's why I like to right click the actual photo itself, left-click Copy Image Location, then paste that into the Insert/Edit image Source text box. It always works for me - no matter what photo-hosting site I'm copying it from.

I'll give that a shot over at the "Forum Testing Grounds" Tom!
Thanks for the heads-up.
I'm still here. I'm trying to digest the last few minute's posts.
Edit: I've been up all night trying to solve this issue and I am too tired to go any further tonight. I'll try again tomorrow.
Thanks guys.
I saw your test in the testing forum and tried the same method using Flickr on your photo. It didn't work because Flickr has an automatic zoom feature when the photo is clicked on in Flickr and it doesn't give you the Copy Image Location option. The option from the Dropbox page that Dave posted did work though.

On my laptop, I hit the windows button and print screen. The screen dims for a split second. Then I hit control V and Voila...nuthin?? If you go to Paint, which is a standard Windows program, you can do the control V and save it as a jpg then upload it somewhere else like Imgur
