We had about four inches of snow at the house last night; a very rare occurence in College Station, TX.  It stuck, but it wasn't really cold enough to affect roads and bridges, and it is just about all gone now.  Supposed to get up into the mid 50s today.

Remember the tin can; the MKT's central Texas branch...

Afternoon Diners,

Ulrich- I read the past posts. There's no reason to leave, Steven is just reminding us the rules before it goes to far.

I went to Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella play at the college yesterday. It was good. At least I didn't have to worry about talking animals. I was planning to buy a shirt but the sizes were little girls. The play DVD was 4 years old but had the same songs. I was thinking about it but I didn't.

We're about to get our first dose of winter.  Depending on which forecast one chooses to believe, it will be an inch or 7 inches.  It would be nice to know, but I wouldn't really believe anyone's forecast.

Changing the topic, as Steve requested  Ashland Va, Virtual Railfan

Those white dots are snow falling.  On one of those youtube webcams, some guy asked if it snowed at Yellowstone.  He said he had never seen snow.  Don't know where he lived but nothing is more peaceful than watching a heavy snow.

WW2 was popular in the 60's TV, but not the 50's as far as I remember. TV was just getting started then.  In the 50's it was the big screen for  Run Silent Run Deep, The Caine Mutiny, Mr Roberts, Bridge Over the River Kwai.

In the 60's Combat, McHale's Navy, 12 o'clock High (the movie was more dramatic and sobering than the TV series).  Most of all the actors from that time period (regardless of it was a war movie) were veterans as were many Nascar drivers.

But not John Wayne, who, according to Studds Turkel, was boo'd at USO shows in WW2.  He had a medical deferment.

I can't remember any Vietnam series.  There was a series on Iraq but I think it only lasted a year.

Any of the movies I mentioned are worth watching, as well as Wayne's Back to Bataan, The Longest Day, Wing and a Prayer, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo and All Quiet on the Western Front, a 1930 German film. I am 66 and all these and more war movies used to be on TV all the time.   No more. I can't remember the last time I saw Jimmy Cagney and the Caine Mutiny.

The thing you have to remember about any movie that claims to portray reality is that they are held to no standards.  The movies produced duting WW2 are clearly on the propaganda side of things.  Other movies about other time periods have other agendas.  It is Hollywood.

No Politics, No history, only a review of cinema history

Afternoon, everybody!

14 degrees and mostly cloudy. No wind so that's nice.

Seeing some new faces in the diner. That's nice. Seeing the old pharts is also nice! Ha ha!

Running trains while I refurbish some scenery. Seems like that is a never- ending task on a railroad of my size. I'm about 1/3 of the way around. My trees are mainly what needs touching up. Cheap hairspray and a new dusting of ground foam freshens them right up .A square foot of forest has between 15- 20 trees so it takes some time.

I see also that there are the usual debates and squabbles, too.

That does get old.

Went ladder- surfing at work on October 5th. Emergency room trip for stitches and x-ray. Doc was concerned when those came back and sent me for a CT scan. Compression fracture of the L-1 vertabra. Explained the massive back pain!

Better now.

That's all for now. SWMBO is pulling in the drive from town. Groceries will need putting away!

Snows basically gone now but built this guy earlier in one of the thicker patches... we had to move all eight snow balls that made him because he was in the sun now he's in the shade.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, Gary, Ed, Brent, Jan, Inch, Angelob, Terry, Galaxy and I will have a Beer please and give NSP and Rick a RBF. Leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Work Front Store was slow, but I wasn't with Nancy there again! She had me moving this and that, moving paintings on the walls so there would be yet more nail holes. Told her at one point "if we had a stiff wind blow throught the store it would be Whisling Dixie!" It was slow again and she left at 4:00 PM thank goodnes.

Rick is there by chances a name / sku for the Colbolt screwdriver set you posted about? Maybe prices range would help to cut down on the search.

Ed Enjoying the RDC and I love it! Is there a F botton for the lterior light's? They have gone out, more than likely a bulb. Passanger services is way up, running Santa Fe Valley Flyer, NYC RCD with the Might CB&Q Fast Freight!

Evening Diners,

Hallmark Collection Christmas ornaments has a new Lionel train PRR S2 Turbine but you have to buy the tender since it separated. One drawback is the locomotive number it wrong. #671 instead of 6200.

Steven- A nice snowman indeed. I never built a snowman when it snowed in the desert, not enough snow to build one.

Terry- Sorry about your injury.

Well here in Louisiana snow is in the utmost rarity I have lived here eight years and it has snowed only once before yesterday, we once had an ice storm with freezing rain but no snow... so that snowman could be considered my "first" legitimate snowman.

Like the snowman. I don't even know the last time I built one. (Has to have been grade school. (And no, I'm not telling how long ago that was. But it is not as long as I have been a model railroader!)

Hobby Front: Found that the 45 is being more of a challenge than I though. I think what I need to do is to find some brass parts (stanchions and N-B-W castings) for the needed parts. The plastic doesn't seem to want to glue properly.

On the other hand, the caboose project is proceeding nicely. The base of the project is a pair of Athearn cupola cabooses. The underframe is almost done. The only thing left is to glue the cross siting brake cylinder on. The roof is in progess. (Moving the hole 5 scale feet forward. The cupola will need to be made wider and the roofwalks will also need to be completely retweeked. The specific prototype is here: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/np/np11406bha.jpg. As I model NP/BN post-merger and this caboose was photographed here in Miles City, I decided to add a model to my collection. (As I have said multiple times, not that I need more rolling stock.)

Good afternoon Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

well, Tis the season, etc.  I haven't observed the winter solstice holidays for probably 40 years, but this time of year does conjur up certain and some rather fond memories of trains, baked goodies, lights, and music, especially baked goodies!  I sure don't miss it though.

I've been working as seasonal help for a major internet shopping company.  Working nights from 9-2.  i haven't done warehouse work for at least 35 years, and am discovering muscles that haven't been exercised this way in decades.  It is good to do some physical work, but I feel it.

i did receive my Jan issue of MR.  I like the content.  One comment, for what it's worth.  One of the things I really liked about Model Trains magazine was all of those "dollar" model structures, of whom E. L. Moore was a prime contributor.

hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Good afternoon from a snowy northern PA.

Flo - I will take one of those there RBF's that Ken keeps getting me. Thanks.

Ken - Good news/bad news... Kobalt has changed that kit. However, while checking around, I found a link to another brand, similar kit, just depends on how you feel about the big W store... I've tried to post said link, but the forum software is not cooperating with my tablet today... Check your PM's.

Ulrich - Hope you are peeking in every now and then.

Weather - Snowy and cold. But not anywhere close to the snow in Buffalo.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

I'm also watching some football, the eagles and rams right now. I normally don't seat long enough for the complete game.

After my post I realized after an hour after I wrote it that it was sunday. No mail comes on sunday but it actually did arrived. I guess they didn't want to wait until tomorrow.

My wife bought some snack cracker's she did not like so I gave them to Nancy and she loves them. So Nancy grab's a bag of clothes out of her SUV she was taking to Good Will and gives them to me for my wife to wear? Confused Best part? Some of the shirts where Marvins and then she explains to me "woman loves to wear mens shirts". Yea, right! Laugh

Angelob I have been seeing USPS trucks on Sundays for about a year now on my way to work. I was thinking they where it training and trying to learn there routes for delivery's? Guess it was two months ago the USPS delivred some Meds for me on Sunday from the VA? Never seen normal mail on Sunday.

Rick I will check the PM's Monday. I spent sometime on the Lowes site and found nothing.

Brent Have the BLI F7a in the frezzer, should I worry about it getting Frezzer Burn? Smile, Wink & Grin Will work if it in the next few days.

Ed Why do you replaces the QSI decoders in the BLI engines? Is it better sound, speed control or more F buttons? Other than the dang sleep function I really like the QSI decoders. Far as speed control my PCM Y6-b has Loksound and nothing comes close to it's speed control!

Trains are running Great and BBQ is done. Dinner

 Later, Ken

Seeing the same late day and weekend delivery around here, from the USPS,  so I asked the post master in our local USPS, and she told me that they get so much traffic handed off to them from UPS, Fedex, and others, including most Amazon orders, they are swamped.  I guess the USPS has worked out agreements with the private shippers, to be the local distributor.

Of course, she also had to tell about cutt-backs, staffing, etc., and how hard it was to keep up.

Evening all.

Ken, five minutes should do it, you just want the screws and thread to contract.  Leaving it in there is not a good idea. Let it dry out if you have left it in for a while. Sorry, I should have said just a few minutes. Be ready with the screwdriver the second it comes out.

There are few things I enjoy more than to come in to work on a Monday morning, fire up the Forums, and find out people have purposely ignored what I told them to do. No, I take it back, there are few things I HATE more than that.

Now I have to go back and delete a bunch of posts, and edit a bunch more.

Drop the topic of war, right now, or I get out the Admin Hammer. Clear enough this time?
