The staff here is very friendly and able to serve. There's Zoe, Chloe, Flo, Janie, and Brunhilda. They'll serve up plenty of virtual food with a smile and a friendly "See any nice trains today?"

Berea, Ohio stakes it's claim-to-fame in the deposits of sandstone in the area. It is known as the "Grindstone Capital Of The World" Quarrying began in the 1830s and many structures and roadway curbs were laid with Berea Sandstone.
The Big Four railroad depot was built with Berea Sandstone in 1876. Today it serves as a local eatery and public house. I remember seeing the building with the roof caving in and close to collapsing. Around 1980 a restoration program began and reversed the decay although no longer used as a railroad structure.

Berea is the point just west of Cleveland where the Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and St. Louis Railroad (The Big Four Route) crossed the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway.
Today it serves in a similar vein but the names of the principal players have changed to CSX and NS.

Jeffrey´s Trackside Diner was formerly Elliot´s Trackside Diner, but was renamed to honor our dear friend Jeffrey "Running Bear" Wimberly.
I hope everyone is doing well and is looking forward to the coming month. Lots to talk about here and I'm sure it will prove to be both interesting and rewarding.

It´s hard to believe that almost three years have passed since our friends Jeff left us. I still miss him!
No plans for the day, other than running down to the service center of my Internet provider to file a claim. For whatever reason, we have inteemittent connectivity issues and a loss of bandwidth by 1/3. I had to call their service line three times yesterday, but the problem remains. So I will show up at their place, all 6´5" and 230 lbs. of me, including my "fog horn" voice and tell them off!

Not much going on in my neck of the woods. I will be working on a DCC++ project for my self and the museum. Being that I am a tech tinkerer this is right up my alley.
I am not a sweet potato person. so i will just have a heap of hasbrowns.
Steven, Ed - caramelized sweet potatoes with marshmallow cream on top sounds, well, interesting, but I think I don´t even dare to give it a try.
Todaý lunch was filet of fish, fries and a side dish of some sort of salad. Great taste, completely unhealthy, but I don´t care any longer. Who wants to turn 100 years of age when 70 is not in sight?
The Internet problems continue, which means we are out of telephone and computers a couple of times during the day Add to that that my not so trusted smartphone, which I was given denies to work properly, which leaves us sans communication. Frightening! I am trying to revive my old cell phone, which is not so smart, but I remember it working!
Edit. The old cell phone is as dead as the Dodo, so I ordered a new phone. It will be just a phone, with big buttons and a big display, made for senior citizens, who don´t need a phone with an integrated movie camera, electric razor, stereo, refridgerator and who knows what!
Afternoon folks!
Yup! found the new place, I did..... Chloe, I think I will try a helping of the Carmelized Sweet potatoes with the Marshmallo creme that Steven brought in today. What, Just a cup of Decaf to wash it down with. I think the sweet potatos alone will do a number on my blood sugar which was already about 10 points above what I like to see in the morning already.... Good thing is my wieght is back down where it was before Thanksgiving feasting. Still want to lose about another 30 lbs. and hoping I can have about 15 of that disappear over the Winter.
Will be getting back to walking over at the fieldhouse next week as my outdoor work that has provided a bit of exercise is done for the next several months. Should have more time for some Model Railroading as well. I have several structures I want to get built (and judged) by Spring. Need to finish up the paperwork on the ones that have already gotten Merit Awards.
Now Ulrich, don't go getting the blood presure all out of whack and have a heart attack on us while yelling at the idiots out there.....
Gotta head out to Manchester, NY (next to Shortsville, NY where the biggest yard for the LV once was) to sign some paperwork for rechartering the Handicapped Boy Scout Troop I am commissioner for. BTW, The old roundhouse still stands more or less in Shortsville and has just gotten a major grant to preserve and restore it. Will be interesting to see how it works out. It has just been sitting there unused for for almost half a century now and is in very bad shape.

I see Ken mentioned me twice in his last beer dispersal paragraph, so now I will be drinking with two hands, THANKS, KEN!
I see we moved. I was lying on my deck lounger watching the action at Horseshoe curve through my eyelids and when I opened them to order a pina colada everyone was gone. You have to go farther than that to lose me. Dinner and drinks on me tonight as I need to drown my sorrows.
Opened the hatch to the crawlspace two days ago and there was a foot of water down there. Restoration and plumbers are on it, however, we lost everything that was not in Tupperware tubs. All my R/C planes and equipment and a ton of other stuff. The crawlspace is about 3000 sqft. That is a lot of water to get rid of. No Christmas lights this year. The restoration company removed everything and will sort it out and list everything and then we put a value on it. Insurence does not cover the plumbing cost, just damage, and contents and the restoration company. It could be an expensive fix. Once the water level is down they will send a camera along to find out what happened. I am glad we always have our three month cash in the bank backup on hand so the money part is in place.
Hope to learn a lot at our new location. Whoops! Didn't realize it was so late. Have to go get Daughter at school and take her to the horse for her lesson.

That stinks about the water issue. flooded stuff is always a mess.
Yeah I can concur with that statement. Back last August in 2016 we had what was deemed the "Great Flood of 2016" here in Louisiana... displaced many people who had to take up residence in hotels or friends houses that didn't flood. My house was spared but my "shed" or storage building was not with 6 inches of water coming in long enough to cause all the sheet rock and insulation to be torn out. But it was a blessing and curse because we discovered that the back half of the building was about to collapse due to rotting studs... we just finished that remediation project which too a while because of the extremely wet summer we had. But I am now quite experienced in reframing buildings without causing collapse. I would build about 4 tp 8 feet of wall studs top and bottom plate the jack it into place. Some of the club members are still not done working on their houses and the club itself is finally back in operating condition due to the water saturating everything from about 6 inches below the layout.
My sympathies go out to those affected by all the violent weather this year especially those affected by the likes of Harvey and such.
By the by, is the diner a dining car??? If so is it an observation too? Or is it a dome? If either I'll take a nice big cup of hot peppermint lavender tea on the observation platform thank you. (Just make sure I don't doze off and end up over the railing.

In my first apartment after college, I ended up with a flood in one bedroom. I don't remember if it was a bad window or what the issue was (that was many many moons ago). Not to go into the major issues that resulted, but I ended up with my F-unit getting a little wet and I had to redo some of the lettering as it existed at the time. (The shell has been changed at least once and the lettering has changed a couple of times. However, there are parts of that engine that were part of it at that time. As a result of playing with that engine and changing components, I have gotten pretty good at assembling and disassembling Athearn BB 4-axle units. Half or 15 of my 30 engines are Athearn BB 4-axle units.)

Previosly, it was called Elliot’s Trackside Diner. When Jeffrey passed away, three years ago , the Diner was renamed in his memory. Jeffrey was a resident of Louisiana as you are .

Work Front Got home late due to a late customer. They walked in at 7:50 and I close at 8:00 PM. I was not happy about it but did my job and got the deal and them out the door at 8:20 PM.
Train Front. Seems odd but a tralier car may have been causing the Mighty CB&Q F7's to derail? CB&Q's is a A-B-A lash up and the trailer car was the first car in the train? Either way I pulled it and the layout is running great!

Brent Sorry about the flooding. With growen up on a river I know about flooding! I lived in Carmel Ind on White River on 116th street. Most floods where a mer 14 feet over the banks. But a few winter's it was 20 feet and more.

Well fellas I'm heading to Deans trackside motel for the night I got my two hours of broom pushing in and that paid for my room. I finally got that tea I ordered I guess they had to go find it. Trying to clean up the woods in my backyard. After 20 years it's more woods than I want, and not very good wood at that, sumac trees, sticker vines and something that never has leaves but is like a 1/2" diameter trunk full of thorns. Took me 30 min to start the chainsaw, don't know if it was old gas, bad chainsaw or my bad shoulder. Once it got warmed up it ran well.
Went to the oncologist with my wife. Her particular breast cancer is going to require 6 treatments of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, followed by 12 more immunotherapy treatement and radiation. The treatments aren't going to start for 2 weeks and will be 3 weeks apart. That will take us into 2019! He says she has a >90% chance of survival, so that is better than we expected.
Ed I know you have a CMR turntable. Did I tell you guys this? I found one on ebay, mislabeled a CMT. After a couple auction cycles and lower prices, I got it for $202. A good price I think. Now I have to find a place for it.

The day started out bright and sunny, with Mother Nature being really pretty in her iced up look. That´s gone by now and we are back to the usual grey and wet of the time of the year. The "promised" snow didn´t come, but I am not unhappy `bout it!

Henry, I am more of the old school medicine type of guy, but I have heard that ginger does wonders. It may not substitute a more "conventional" treatment of cancer, but it could support the therapy. There is plenty of info in the web, a first reading can be found here.

So we are in Berea. Well it's a good place. We railfanned Berea this past summer for the 1st time. It wasn't as busy as I'm used to, but we did catch a couple of CSX. That was nice for a change as we usually only see Norfolk Southern. It's a nice safe place to railfan, but I was a little surprised that we were the only ones there. I would have thought we would see more locals. Maybe next time.
Took advantage of the nice weather this past week & got the rest of the Christmas lights, garland, etc. put up outside. Also got the Dicken's Village display finished. Now all the empty boxes need to be taken up to te attic. Maybe tomorrow after we come home from railfanning at our usual spot. We didn't go today as there was a craft show the wife wanted to go to this morning. Not my favorite thing to do as they are as bad as train shows with dumb people who stand in doorways or the middle of the aisles to chit chat, & then take offense if you say excuse me, but we would like to get through here. As you can tell, I'm not a prople person in crowded scenes.
Needed the plumber get me a replacement cartridge for the kitchen faucet this week. This is the 3rd time its needed replaced in 4 years. I couldn't find it locally or on the internet. A plumbing supply outfit near us had it, but wouldn't sell me one as I don't have an account there. Apparently they only deal with plumbers. Oh well, the plumber didn't charge me so I lucked out there.
Tried for 2 days to make an appointment for the wife with her optomologist. No luck, just heard the same message over & over that all lines were busy. So we drove about 25 miles to the office & made the appointment in about 3 minutes. I'll just do that from now on, it's less frustrating.
Got a ton of other things done around here this past week, so all in all, I'm happy. Other than railfanning tomorrow, I'm not doing anything else. Day of rest & all that. Hope you all have a nice weekend.
