My Understanding is that the reversing action is triggered by the end track sensing current flow across the wheels of a locomotive so if I put plastic wheels on the end trucks of the consist and put the motorized car in the center of a 3 car consist i should be able to add a few inches to each end of the track?

Maybe you should post there, because I don't understand your question.  General wisdom is that a reversing loop should be as long as your longest train.

There is a gap on either end of reversing section so can always add more track within those gaps to make it as long as you want (asssuming it fits in the space available).  Using plastic wheels on rolling stock, effectively makes your train shorter.  I don't think you can say the opposite, that it makes the reversing section longer.

Good morning ... Coffee and a dount, please.

Henry ... Prayers for your wife as she undergoes treatments for cancer. .. I can imagine it would be very expensive to straighten all passneger tracks to go continuously at 80 mph.

SteveO ... Yep... Easy to type ! ... Thanks for the pot roast. It'll be good for supper. I just had my donut.

Joe... I am not familiar with how the Bachmann reversing track works.

This photo shows progress with my corner project. I am about 95% done with a small area of scenery under bridges. I am ready to install the wood truss bridge and some track. This includes retaining walls and abutments. The wood bridge is actually a bit too short for this location, and I needed to trim off edges of abutments to clear the lower tracks.  .... The curved tracks at the lower level are three tracks with one of them moving closer to the middle track which will connect with a curved turnout just out of view in the picture. ... This is a cell phone photo.

I am going to hold off on the reversing track questions until I actually get the thing out of the box.

Think I had too much coffee this morning.

Saturday the grandkids descend on our house for nearly two weeks. There are six under the age of ten, including twin three-year-olds. They are really quite well behaved and are fun to have around. It does mean that I need to get the track clean and operational before they get here. What would time at "Old Dude's" place be like without trains and Jelly Bellys?

(Grandkids call me "Old Dude" by my choice. I wanted something different than "Grandpa" or "Papa." It is pretty great to be in a public setting have them call out at me, "Hey, Old Dude!" and watch all the elderly gentlemen look up.)

Hi Henry:

The question is not about a 'reverse loop'. He is asking how to extend a straight piece of track where the train is set up to go back and forth automatically. In other words, automatic direction change.

I do have a question about the track though maybe I should post it in the electronics forum.  My Understanding is that the reversing action is triggered by the   end track sensing current flow across the wheels of a locomotive so if I put plastic wheels on the end trucks of the consist and put the motorized car in the center of a 3 car consist i should be able to add a few inches to each end of the track?

Hi Joe:

Is this the track set:

https://www.walthers.com/e-z-track-r-reversing-system-nickel-silver-w-gray-roadbed-power-pack-auto-reversing-track-6-9-quot-straight-4-curved-2-bumpers

If so, it looks to me that you can simply add in more sections of E-Z Track.

Bachmann sponsors a forum on their website. You might want to post the question there too:

I have decided to stay away from the place accross the street from now on.

Ray, could you hint to the name of the place across the street? The only "other" place I stop in to occasionally sounds like a dog bark, ARF.

Evening Diners,

Steven O- I will try to watch the new movie. Sometime this week or next. No you're reviews weren't negative. I was watching other people's reviews on it.

Sorry to heard that Ulrich is done. We might see him again in a few more months, if we're lucky.

I was thinking on the track build of the Carolina Central. I didn't want to use 11" Kato track. I had 12-15" track a few #4 turnouts. It turned out I could use 12 and 15" curves perfectly. I don't have #6 turnouts so I don't have a idea if it will change or not.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, Ed, Gary, Inch, Angelob, Brent, Galaxy, Jan, UP 831 and I will have a Crown Royal with a Beer chaser. Give Rick, Steven and StevenO a RBF.

Ed Guess I am a real bad speller, I did not see the spelling error?

 Gary Looks Great!

Train Front Got the NYC RDS opened and lubed up the motor and trucks. Saved it's decoders CV's using decoder pro. Still some what loud but I am fine with that.

Ed, the interior light is on in the RDS but dim?  It was bright when I first started running it? Well no matter, I still enjoying it! Big Smile

Bachmann Sound Vaule F7's. I have them pulling the Mighty CBQ F7's fast freight. These suckers can pull! Two F7a's are pulling 32 cars like it is nothing. Now this is around 18" turns and up a grade. Best $100.00 engines I have ever bought! Yea, I like BLI F units better but these Bachmann are great!

 Later, Ken

Evening all! Flo (or whoever's handy), could I get a mint steamer given the weather and some apple pie. No ice cream please. Too cold.

Weather Front: Got the forecast wind and snow this afternoon. I haven't checked how much has decided to stick. It was quite slushy when I came home. I suspect it is going to be a bit slick in the morning when I go to work. I think "Tread Carefully" will be the moniker for the day. the weather is going to be quite chilly for lows Friday through Christmas (single digits). I managed to find a couple of nice fellow co-workers who have said that they would give me rides to work. (I don't like to walk when it is below 10 above.)

Hobby Front: When I was doing the beginnings of the yard for the car shop, I discovered that I need to install a small extension in order to get the 3 way switch in a place when I can install the untable machines that I want to use. (I forgot that when I built the L-shaped piece that I had a splice plate in it and that plate runs exactly where the turnout would have sat.) The extension will end up being 1 foot wide x 3 foot long which is just enough for the turnout to sit on and install the undertable machines. To that end, I stopped at one of the lumber yards on the way home from work. I needed a price for 1x4, which is what I use for framing. I was worried I would have a bunch of left over and I only knew about 8' and 16' lengths. This particular yard has 10' length which will work perfectly. The cost is very reasonable. They will also cut in half to make it easier for me to carry. (Two 3' pieces for the sides and 4 pieces 10 1/2" for the ends and supports placed 12" O.C. The top will be a piece of plywood that I can snag from the scrap that is sitting around the floor.) Won't happen until it gets warm again. Probably March or so. (Disadvantage of using unheated shop space. But I don't have to pay for the use of the space so beggars can't be choosers.)

The new model pickups showed up but still no car shop. (Delayed, maybe tomorrow.)

Ray, could you hint to the name of the place across the street? The only "other" place I stop in to occasionally sounds like a dog bark, ARF.

Ed, I'll pass on naming the site across the street.  there are some on here who do know the one I'm talking about, but I don't like to Dis other sites by name.  It doesn't sound like ARF though.  Generally if I don't like a conversation, I just stay out of it, but every once in a while I just need to stay out of a site for a while.  This one almost never has conversations that I get riled up from...  I did stay out of the one that got Ulrich upset and some others unhappy as well.

Been a busy day, here in the Finger Lakes for me!  Drove over to the Waterloo Outlet Mall this morning to get a couple gift cards for my Grandaughters at a Justice Store, cam home charged the car and had lunch.  Then set out to Canandaigua to drop off a pile of checks for the MLK Account at a bank there and then make a pilgrimage to the CHOCOLATE store.  Local hand made chocolate place.  Oh man!  One breath inside that place and I immediately gain 5 lbs.!   Got the sweet gifts I hand out to the shirt tail relatives over at my son's house for the Christmas gathering and present unwrapping festivities!  (Complete frenzie in that family....)

Then tonight I was at the last Boy Scout District Comittee meeting of the year and the last one that our current District Executive will be at.  He is being promoted to Senior DE and going to a different District in our council.

Have a few more gifts to wrap, but getting close to having everything under control, as they say.  Will be making my family recipe for Winter Squash to taking to both the gathering at my son's house and the one at my sister's house a couple days after that.  Old family recipe right out of Betty Crockers Cookbook....  Doctored up a bit though.

Hope all of you have a great night out out there!  and remember: "The reason why worry kills more people than work is that more people worry than work!" - Robert Frost

Funny. When I was a schoolkid, my red hair was much lighter, and there were those who thought it was funny to call me "Opie."

For your amusement and entertainment, a holiday favorite played on nothing but bike parts. Merry Christmas to the whole diner gang.

Very appropriate.

I know it's still 10 days to the end of the month but with Christmas it will be here before people know it: Wher are we going for the first month of the new year? (I have no good ideas.) As a result, I wil throw it out to the group.

Hobby Front: Finally got the car shop in the mail. (Only two days late, but I won't start that grumble.) Will start working with it when I get done with this post and watching Jeopardy!.

In other matters, Mom happened to be at work and gave me a ride home. As a result, I decided to get the piece of 1x4 that I had priced yesterday. (All truth, I was going to get it anyway, but Mom having the car helped somewhat in getting it home.) I will take the board out on Christmas just to get it out there. Not planning to built it. (Forecast to be too cold.)

Garry:  Wanted to compliment your modeling of the scene in general and also the modeling of those bridges.  Nice to see the two different textures of wood and steel right next to each other.  It adds interest to the scene.  Good work.  Now, those track crews need to get off break and get back to work.
