Good morning Diners,
Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.
Yesterday was a double bonus day. I got the new Feb MR, and I also got my 2018 MRP in the mail. Does that qualify as a year end bonus?
Big Daddy: I have no idea what the meaning of the phrase is, but I've often wondered the same thing. How do they have the time and equipment to paint such an elaborate gang name on the side of a 50' railroad car? 'Tis a mystery.
Next month's diner going to Tehachapi? Great! I've not been there,...yet! Been through Cajon more times than I can count, but not Tehachapi. South Florida had been mentioned. Maybe for Feb? Dunno.
Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
I'm confused, we have two diners open at once. I can't handle that kind of change in the routine.
Never heard of a spliff or a blunt. Blunts are joints rolled in tobacco paper like a cigar. Spliff's are tobacco and marijuana. You get a nicotine buzz and the other buzz too. Of course we are only talking medical use in places where legal.
I hope to bring my wife home from the hospital today, after spending 5 days of dealing with a miriad of complications from chemotherapy. They are going to have to change her regime because of those complications.
Since she has been gone the dog has not gotten in our bed once.
Without commenting on the illegality of the act or the possible artistic value, (don't get me booted off the forum) how would someone manage to create this massive billboard? Ladder, scaffolds, cases of spray paint?

I set up the new diner at Tehachapi...
Take a look at the opening post tell me if it's good or not...
See you all tommorow at the loop but for now I'm in Miami for 2017 and the Billy Joel concert, and no I have not seen the lights go out on Broadway!

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Mornin' folks!
Zoe.... Glad you made it here today! I need another pot of hot Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee to warm me up!
'Tis, all of 5°F outside with a 10mph breeze, meaning the wind chill is around -9°F. I managed to bundle up and get the deck cleaned off with my little electric snow blowqer. The "breeze", of course means that some of the sn*w flies back into my face.... Knew there was something I liked about the beard I used to have.
I should be in church right now, but the city was kind enough to fill in the end of my driveway with about a foot and a half of white stuff. With the icy road that could be just enough to get the car stuck in if the snow plow picked up some ice chunks. So I will be cleaning out that anyway. Also they plowed about 3 foot out from my mailbox and left quite a bit of drift there as well. Guess I will be working on it from time to time this afternoon....
Tonight I should be over to my son's house to see the sillyness at Midnight....
Stay warm and safe!

I am so sore. This kitchen project is killing me!
.
We had a cold front go through, so it is feeling like winter time finally. The cool down has been nice.

Living the dream.
To those of you in retail, I hope your have plenty of spliffs (spelling??)
Actually Bear, the proper spelling is 'spiff', that is if you are talking about a monetary reward. It could be however that some employers are indeed handing out 'spliffs', a spliff being another term for a 'joint'. You know, cannabis, marijuana, funny cigarettes.... Heck, employee benefits come in all forms! Who knows?!?
Happy New Year to you and everybody on the forums!!!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Evenin' folks!
Janie, I could use a refill for my decaf please! Thanks!
Hey, JR, good to see! Been quite a while I think.... Sounds like you are as busy as ever......
Angelo, around here there has been a warning that the crooks are getting into gas pump card readers and stealing peoples info. I had that happen a couple years ago. I now only pay inside!!! I also check my CC account daily to make sure what I see is things I bought.....
Jimmy, just remember: "Love is an irresistable desire to be irresistably loved." - Robert Frost

Appears to be a problem with the formatting buttons here tonight. I had to use code to get Bold and Italic to work...
Have a Good one and stay warm out there if you are in the cold areas!
The diner in January will be a two heavyweight car train both will have a open air observation deck at the end of the car, an interior area, a elevated cupola, and an elevated balcony accessible from the cupola...
I'll open the new diner tommorow at noon that way you guys can wish everyone a happy new year and share a round of sparkling grape juice. (To some that may mean "wine")
Eveing Diners
Flo, give Ed, GTM, Gary, Inch, Jan, Brent, Jimmy, Angelob, Ray, Mr B, Galaxy and I a and give SteveO, Steven and Rick a Hot Apple Cider. Leave a Thermos outside for Ulrich.
Work Front It was a Good Slow Day. Yea, Nancy was there and we only had two customers all day. Good part? Nancy was with a couple when she got a phone call she wanted to take. That worked out great for me! They bought a good spiff Memonry Foam Mattress and I made a extra $110.00!
GTM Thank You and all the other diners for the condolences for the loss of Dad.
6 Degrees outside, perfect BBQ weather! Doing some Baby Back Rib's, Filet Mignon and Bacon Chesse Bugers. You know it is cold when you have to Microwave the BBQ sause so it will come out of the bottle!

I have watching the Weather Channel in the mornings before I go to work to see what the temperature looks like. THey have been doing #it'ssocold. One of the statements was something along those lines. Another one of those statements was it is so cold that their froze.

That's not a good advertisement for the business, at least IMHO.
Hobby Front: I received the mass order of straight track today. At first, I was a bit surprised at quite how much the box weighed: 3 lbs 7 oz! But considering there are 82 pieces in that box, that is not bad for weight. That gets the yard plan quite a bit further on track. ( Sorry about the pun!) Next order of business is to get the cork sheets ordered. (Found a seller on eBay that I can buy cork sheets big enough to cover both the 1'x3' expansion and a 5 pack that will give enough to cover the two doors for the railyard.) The other major pieces will be 9 turnouts, a crossover and a mess of terminal joiners.
I've got a Cab Forward fired up and waiting with an auxiliary tender in the yard ready to haul the diner to SoCal, the MOW crew had put a temporary stub track inside the loop and the diner will be spotted there... That's all for now.
Afternoon, everybody!
-6 and windy with a -38 wind chill. good day to be in the basement running trains!!
The more I run through the trains sequence, the more refined I'm getting it. Over the last year I 've probably added 100 cars so I had to add length and tracks in staging to accomodate the increased traffic.I also had to change around the order of trains because the yard at Spooner cloogged up REAL fast! LOL! I adjusted some grades to allow longer trains and added some 3 engine consists, so that also helped move cars over the line.
All in all, we've had a good year. Work has been steady. Wife and kids/grandkids are well and healthy. Except for the broken back I have a lot to be thankful for!
It's good to see some familiar names posting in here again!
I truly hope you all have a safe and happy New Year!!
That's about all for now. Back to trains!

Well, in order to deal with this week in a healthy way...I just bought stuff to do another Wheeling unit... I'm finally doing one of the old FURX units.
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Afternoon Diners,
I stayed out the internet yesterday. To download the game which ended at 10:30 at night.
I had to go to bank this morning. I was card hacked again, luckily they told me yesterday at 5 o'clock. Lucky may not be the word but I'm okay. It was good thing I didn't buy anything.
Let's hope the new card comes in before the rest of my pre orders, next year.
Still warm and toasty in the freezing negative temperatures.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
Hey all. Been a bad week here for me. Issues at work mostly, basically leading to me looking for other sources of legal income. The open house for today was canceled because of this stupid snowstorm. Plus women my age playing their games again. Hopefully 2018 has more positive than 2017 had. I'm really in need of a serious change in my life right about now.
Location- If I may suggest a location, how about western PA, especially along the Wheeling and Lake Erie. The east end has some beautiful scenery.
Good Afternoon All,
Thought I'd drop in for a quick coffee and a grilled cheese on rye. A balmy 16F with s..w here, a welcome change after a week of single digit temps. At least the wind didn't kick up. Still have the 6" or so of White Christmas on the ground so a little more is NBD. Hasd all 4 kids and both DILs over Christmas morning and have been in the shop though it's shut down all week. Making new wishbones and rebuilding all the other parts I knocked off the race car on the wall at Albert Park in March. Just hasn't been time to do much otherwise this last year. I'm not complaining mind you busy is much better than the alternative.
Layout is starting to show progress again as I pick away at it. Turntable is fitted and ready for wiring and the roundhouse is getting there Both Walthers kits- the 90' turntable and smaller roundhouse. I was able to squeeze the full 3 bays into the space available after trying three or four other mockups and a round house I have had from a train show long ago. It was good to get back into the basement after such a long time away. If I get real ambitious I'll figure out how to take pics and post them again. I haven't been on trainboard or photobucket for ages so I'm not sure if I even have accounts there anymore. What are the rest of you doing for pics now?
Ken, sorry to hear about your Dad. I lost mine over 20 years ago and still think of him every day.
Sorry to see Ulrich gone again but I'm happy to hear he's doing ok and that most of the rest of you are at least hanging in there. Wishing you all the best for a happy New Year. J.R.

Afternoon diners, on the road again today... Saw an old bus turned RV and guess what was in the back under the hood... a screamin' Jimmy or a Detroit Diesel two stroke!
Quick word of advice: DO NOT try to renew MR subscription online in the middle of the night. My mac lost the page just after I completed the name/address section. No big deal, just do it over again. I missed selecting the 2-year print only, and ended up ordering 3 years with archive and Video Plus. At my age and health status I'm nervous about being around for three more years, even the 2 year bit is a gamble. I emailed customer service and hopefully they can fix it for me.
Gary
Ok I'll take the responsibility!
Well be moving to the Loop right in the center on the hill to see all the action...
Good evening all.
Chloe - A hot cocoa please. Thanks.
Weather front - Snow and cold. Oh, and a "Lake effect snow warning" until 4:00AM (0400hrs) on Sunday. Erie expects another 12-20", snowbelts another 8-14" by Sunday. Poor Erie-ites that aren't used to more snow than me...
Erie record front - They have now surpassed by several inches the seasonal average, in just one month. Yep... That's some snow record alright. And it's growing. (Literally!)
W*^k - Busier today, which was good, but not enough to hit goal, or make up for a big fat 0 on Wednesday.
SWP Steven - I was going to say that you have to be able to haul the diner to its new locale by rail, and buy everyone's dinner tab for the last of this month plus the first of next, but instead, it's be responsible to open the month in the new location, (Florida, Arizona, Cajon, Tehachapi, San Bernadino suggested, maybe others I missed?) with the rules post and the RIP track. (Copy/Paste should work for those.) Any tips I missed guys?
Location for next month - While I've always wanted to go to Arizona for spring training, so maybe a rail town? (Or, settle for Pheonix, as they have some "non-rail" sites for our families to visit while we chat and watch trains. ) But, what about every railfan's dream come true - that Nevada line where you can be the engineer, of either a diesel, or steamer, whichever you prefer. (Or, dream big and go for running both!)
Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

Henery How is your wife doing?
Work Was Slow with only 3 people, and only one bought for a mear $55.00. I hate this time of year at work! Time to do the hated Year End Inventory! Main store has 20,000 sq feet to inventory and have 5 people to do the count. I have 10,600 sq feet and I do all of the inventory by my self!
Did not sleep well last night, so later.
Ken
What's the responsibilities of opening the diner?
Let’s See ... John Boy with -30 degrees. FRRY with -26. That’s cold.
Ray ... We are not in the Deep South and don’t have so many hot summer days. However, we normally have two hot months and two cold months In a year. In between months are generally good . It’s better than Michigan weather.
Jamuary ... is one of you willing to open the January Diner ?

Sounds good to me. Come Sunday, even the peguins are going to need coats. Fifteen below for the high. (Twenty-six below for the low.)
angelob6660 FRRYKid- Building a lego kit, can be interesting. I finished one a month ago it was a Star Wars Turbo Tank from the Clone Wars. It was fun assembling the vehicle. Thinking about the people who has to test and retest to build this kits before booklets.

The kit was missing a couple of minor pieces. Contacted Lego and the missing pieces are on order.
JaBear,
Thank you for that----have sent you some e-mail, was only to be one but on the way to the Forum--dunno what happened !
River nearly frozen up, a few open holes with the water showing. It has been 5-8 below zero at night, warms up to +6 in the day time, NW wind drops the wind chill down to 30-35 below. Dogs do not stay out for any length of time, long yellow streaks, and long brown ones in the snow.
We have had sea smoke the last few days coming off the water, daytime not so bad, but I remember fishing in weather like this at 0300, having to use the radar leaving my mooring, even with my flood, and spot lights on could not see past the stem of the boat, like flying in a cloud, at four miles per hour.
My neighbor pulled his boat, and float out on this morning tide, at 10'8", it was just enough to hit the end of the ways where he pulls out. He has been duck hunting through the cold weather, and has done quite well with black duck, mallards, and geese. I made it out once so far this year, have a few days left in the season, I probably will take Shelby and jump-shoot the marsh behind the house before all is done.
Wife was with her son over Christmas, he has had his final series of chemo and radiation, in two more weeks he will have another scan to see what the results are.
Trains continue to keep coming back, and staying on the track-----all is good.
Prayers for those in need--

Cloe, I could use a mug of hot chocolate to tide me over 'til dinner, Please and Thank You, Ma'am.
Heartland Division CB&QJohn Boy ... I don’t know how you endure your frigid location ...
Well, Garry, here in the Finger Lakes Region, temps in the single digits just means that we see fewer kids out walking around in shorts and short sleeved shirts. Some may have a baseball cap on though........ Last week on the coldest day I was at Water Street Cafe having breakfast and I looked out the window and saw a college kid run around the block three times.... Shorts, tee shirt, and no hat..... You guys down South are just wimps when the weather is nice (and cold)....... Frankly I could never live down South... Way too hot in the summertime! Besides, I have relatives down there. Try to stay well clear of most of them!!!
Just kidding (I think you know that).... I will be staying inside as much as possible until the temp. gets at least above 15°F. The Volt starts up and runs the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) at anything below 15°. Pain in the drain to only get 30 or so mpg around town. Much rather drive on the electrons from my roof.....

Time to get some w*rk done. Later!
My brother delivered the PS4 today so I would play Star Wars Battlefront II. I got a new tv just for the system. A small 22 inch. Nothing fancy, I was going to use an older one. In the end I didn't want to worry about more cables and adopters to convert.
Waiting for it finishing downloading in other 13 hours.
