Top of the page!  Well I'm saving YGW money so he can buy. Big Smile

YGW found this trimmer cord @ Amazon  https://www.amazon.com/DR-196601-Premium-Trimmer-Cord/dp/B06XTTK2ZR/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1495042017&sr=8-2&keywords=175+mil+trimmer+cord

Steve  Flame wars, that should have been an easy one.  He managed to alienate just about everyone in record time.  Maybe they removed his posts from that "other" forum, because I looked but didn't find any.  It was clear he was not missed by anyone.

. . .ROR - What ? Farmer ? Hunter ? What is rule 55 ? . . .

There are two types of salesmen, the hunter and the farmer. The farmer is the one that cultivates customer relationships and grows their install base. The hunter is the guy that is looking for new prospects, specializing in make cold calls, being a bit off a pest, and driving new leads. It takes a unique personality to be a hunter, and I ain't one.

As for the "Rule of 55," it is an IRS regulation that allows an individual to start to make penalty-free withdrawals from a 401(k) before they are 59 1/2. The requirements are that they were at least 55 when they retired and they are making withdrawals from the 401(k) of the employer from which they retired at age 55+.

Things are looking good for the new job. I have a second interview on Monday.

He walked away from it I don't think he has any injuries. If he did we didn't talk after that. The only thing that I know that has broken was the orange reflective light on the back.

The bike was still in working condition and he drove around. But recently I haven't heard it for a while.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I will have a slice of the cake Ulrich brought in....  Oh and a cup of decaf as well, please.

Have about an hour before I head out to start setting up things for the MLK Scholarship Dinner tonight.  I sure hope I remembered everything.  Have the laptop packed, camera, complete with extra batteries for the flash unit, all the certificates and the plaque for the president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges (and his wife), Programs and signs to be put up, and have my best black suit, blue shirt and my Coyote Necklace on.

The Coyote Necklace was a gift several years ago from my sister in Canandaigua.  She purchased it at a festival at Ganondagan (Seneca site) Festival from a couple who are friends of mine from teaching at our old Outdoor Ed Program.  She asked Tania, a Mohawk Person, what would be proper for me and she grinned and showed her the necklace.  The Totem of the Coyote is a bit of a paradox, but embodies being a comedian and a trickster, but one of great wisdom who will, if you learn from him, pass it on to others....  When I looked it up, I was quite honored that Tania knew who I am and that it has to do with teaching..... Howmus - ???I thought the NMRA met the same time across the country. Are you all on a different schedule ?

Nope!   Divisions and Regions all create their own program based on needs and ability to serve their members.  For instance, my Division generally will have four major Meets (programs) during the year.  For us that is usually a whole day of activities that include Clinics, Contests, and afternoon layouts to visit.  The Division to the East of us mostly has an evening program most months at a members layout.  That usually includes a clinic, model contest, and time with the members layout.  Very different MO.

My quote for the day (The coyote is here):

Steve:  What you are describing as thin oatmeal I would call gruel (sp)?  We were at a hotel in Indianapolis this weekend; hotel breakfast included good, thick oatmeal.  My wife and daughter eat the waffles; leaves more oatmeal for me.

Ken:  Glad your dog is doing better.  We put our Weim down exactly 6 months ago today, and I still miss him dearly.

Train front:  Nothing done because of travel.  We did drive through Dallas, and we were close to Discount Model Trains, but I couldn't think of anything I really needed.  We did get to eat at Campisis; one of the best Italian restaurants in the DFW area.

My son is now a Purdue graduate.  Civil engineering.  He is living in Fayetteville, AR, trying to get into grad school.  He is interning this summer with their civil engineering department as a research assistant; they will doing work in Oklahoma on a drinking water project.  Pay isn't great, but it will pay the bills.

My daughter heads to Savannah, GA on Friday, to begin a 10 week internship with a national construction company.  She is excited, but nervous.  I think she'll do just fine.  She will begin her last year of volleyball and school at WCU in August. How time flies.

Good Morning, Folks!

Still quite early and the night wasn´t so good. I woke up after a couple of hours, just like I usually do these days, thanks to the meds. Couldn´t go back to sleep, so I switched on my computer, only to find out it had died silenty on me. Windows7 cannot be persuaded to start anymore, no matter what trick I try. I guess it´s time to say "sayonara" to it and get a new on! Must be a cheap one as the money has to come out of the remnants of my MRR budget.

Petra´s computer will be next in line for replacement. Like mine, it´s a hand me down and is starting to make funny noises.

Herrinchoker - do you still have that file with that German text I sent you the other day? It would be great if you could sent it back to me. I had not yet made a safety copy of it and all that work will be lost with my old computer. Mental note - store vital data not only on the hard disc and copy it daily to your yet to be bought external drive!

No Ulrich´s Train Movie Theater today - we are closed for repairs!

Mr. B,

I had that happen too with an older monitor. Now I use a BP monitor made by a company called Omron. It was recommended by my GP and the readings from it match the GP's numbers very closely. The price wasn't much different from other brands.

Just a little aside on my BP. A few months ago I stopped drinking diet Coke. I was a bit of a junkie, i.e. multiple cans per day. Thanks to the meds my blood pressure was under control when I was pouring the stuff back by the gallon, but now that I have stopped the pop (soda to you guys in the US) my BP has dropped to the point where I get dizzy sometimes when I stand up. When I was at the blood donor clinic last week my BP was 104/59. My normal BP when I go to make a donation is usually quite high, almost to the point where they would kick me out if it was any higher. I will have to go back to the GP to get my meds adjusted. Mind you, I'm not complaining!

YGW It was sort of a low blood sugar attack. Yes my body thinks the blood surgar is low and for me it propley was. Sigh

VA Blood Test Results. Had my A1C test 3 months ago! Not a single letter or phone call! Bang Head 3 months later when I was due to have it tested again was when I learned the results?

A1C came in at a very high 8.1. Sigh I had fell in to the trap of eating what my wife buys and she does not want any more of. Plus I started buying sweats, becuse she wanted them but not all of them. I am changing my eating habits and getting a refresher corse from a dietician.

FRRYKid - I looked into buying one of the DR walk behinds but I found two problems. The most important one is the cost of the replacement string. Home Despot is supposed to carry it but they do not and the online stores wanted $90 ! for the string. Did you find string elsewhere cheaper ?

We haven't quite gotten to the point of needing new strings as of yet. A set of strings came with when it was purchased and we are still using that set. I will have to start doing some research.

Hobby Front: Got the caboose I was hoping to get (yet another Athearn Wide Vision in BN paint). It will be renumbered to become another caboose that I need. The reason I got it as cheap as I did is that it is missing brakewheels but I do have a set of brakewheels from a damaged caboose of mine that I will use. I also used the brake system parts from that caboose to fix another caboose. As of a result of getting the caboose at a better deal, I was able to also get another caboose that I would be needing. (A Bachmann cupola caboose that is needed to replicate a NE-12 Chicago, Bulington & Qunicy or "Q" waycar.) I will need to wait to get the decal sets that I need to complete both of them. I will need a "Q" decal set and I will need yet another BN decal set in order to get enough numbers to complete the BN caboose. (Not a major problem. I might buy a couple more as I plan on 3 more WV BN cabooses in addition to the one that I purchased today.)

Hello, Diners

Just stopping in before I head back to Drawing Room A to turn in. All the space was sold in the Roomettes so the Pullman Conductor let me occupy the Drawing Room for the same fare!

Oatmeal: I like mine thick and not too over-cooked. Lately I have enjoyed a dollop of Brer Rabbit Molasses in it! Yum... Only on cold, rainy days, though. I have tried the expensive steel-cut oatmeal and I don't much care for it. NO instant, either.

FOX: We have been visited by three fox lately. It is never good news here. 40 chickens and six ducks killed. Lord help me if they get any of the cats!

Steven: I appreciate all you do to keep the forum "Healthy, Wealthy and Wise" Your reply in that DCC thread was very diplomatic. I'm sure there are times when you walk away from the computer shaking your head in wonder Whistling

Ken: I hope you get your meds and BP squared away. Also, hoping for the best for Sparkie! Thanks for the BEVERAGE!

Cell Phone: I just dug out my old receipt to be sure. I have had T-Mobile pay-as-you-go since 2009. Using the SAME phone and battery! Last year I bought $25. worth of minutes and as a loyal customer they keep adding minutes. As long as I maintain my account, I'm a "legacy" customer, I can maintain my pricing and usage. No complaints here!

I haven't had much time for the forum as I volunteered to help my next-door neighbor with some excavating work for his back patio/pool area. Well, it has turned into a two-week, five or six hour a day w**k project Indifferent I'm looking forward to a rainy day so I can get some time off! I'm glad to be able to help out, though and they are great neighbors.

Train front: A few decoder installs on some older Kato and Life-Like Proto engines. Got the masking and painting done on the Post Office Annex.

I'm trying a new method of doing brick mortar. First I spray the surface with "wet water" then brush on very small amounts of thinned tan latex paint.

So far, I like the results. I tried a little "speckle" effect with the airbrush on the concrete parts, too. It is very subtle. It looks magnified in these photos.

I pray you all have a good day today.

Regards, Ed

Ulrich,

I have not recieved your post yet, as soon as I do I will send it back to you. Enjoyed the narrow gauge RR in Spain, the engine made in England in 1857, and still being used was interesting. Quite a difference in the yard conditions between Spain and other parts of Europe, as well as the rail lines. I noticed one engine was being fired on what apppeared to be square blocks of coal ? or perhaps peat ?

YGW,

My sister had a DR string trimmer, I used 250 pound test mono leaders that I had for tuna fishing, cut to length, worked as well. It is also made in heavier pound tests if the 250 is not strong enough. It comes in spools up to five miles long.

Porridge! YUK! I had my share of yukky, sticky, scummy, mushy porridge when I was a kid! Talk about being abused as a child!! No matter how much brown sugar, or molasses, or even maple syrup was applied they could never hide the reality of what was underneath! Of course it didn't help when you doddled over eating the stuff because it simply got even more yukky, sticky and scummy the longer it sat in the bowl. My Aunt Mary prided herself on how great her porridge was. I forgive her for that!

Ed, no disrespect eh! Each to his own, but if you want to feed me breakfast please make it eggs over easy on toast, or French Toast, or an omelet, or even just some fruit, but please - no porridge!Ick!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaugh

Oh, I agree, Dave, that there are MANY better choices for breakfast, but there are those occasions, maybe it was the Ralston Purina my mother fed me when I was a wee tyke, that the oatmeal plays a role in my memory bank. Certainly not a steady diet of the stuff!

Gidday Chloe, it’ just a quick hit and run for me, tonight.

One of my Grandfathers was Scots and was a big fan of porridge for breakfast, made form rolled oats, thick, with salt, none of this wimpy sweet stuff.

Had to have something thick enough to stick to your backbone which would keep you going for a day’s hard work, he reckoned!!

Cheers, the Bear.Smile

Good Afternoon!

Back on track, with a new computer, that is.

I now have to cope with the pitfalls of Win10, but I must have been doing something right, as I am connected to my home Wifi, have access to my emails, can write letters, but not yet print them.

There are a few more things I have to install to be back into business, but the main things are up and running again - what a relief!

I´ll keep the old computer to see whether my son will be able to save the data stored on it. I have a few backups tucked away somewhere, so all is not lost.

Janie, coffee please, and do we have a slice of that cake left - you know the one I brought along yesterday? Thank you.

Good Morning, Y'all:

You haven't heard form me {was I even missed?} because of the new j-o-b.

I am use to getting yup around 3 am, nad going to bed at 8 pm, Now I WORK 4-midnight and don't get to sleep until 1 am, but by 5 am, the cat, MOH, the shower noises or something wakes me. The first work week: ours runs wed-tues, I worked mon and tues, the second week I logged 40 hours, the third week I logged 40 hours, and now I am logging my 24 hours, about all I can handle. I work about every other day, with Sun-mon off in a row. I was getting very exhausted, but in the end here, am finally adjusting to my new schedule, I usually get a nap before work which helps. It is hard being disabled, carrrying a cane around adn doing some of the "chores" I have to do. Like collectring heavy wet towels from the pool area to the laundry room...nto bad for up to 4 towels, but more and I have to make a couple trips. Refilling soda "machine" is a chore as I can only carry 3 bottles at a time formthe stock room.

Overall, I am enjoying it, though some names that are hard to pronounce or spell, they just hand me their ID! We had a "famous" name appear the other day, and though we suspected it WASN't the famous person of the name, we were "betting" {more like hoping} it Was! But alas, it WASN'T, of course...who would use thier FAMOUS name when travellign incgnito, and our hotel is NOT the hotel *stars* are usually put up in in this town.

I enjoy the interaction with persons, and the comraderie of coworkers, though I mostly work alone. I still have yet to master teh art of the third party billing correctly {expedia, hotels.com, booking.com, etc} they are a pain in the tukkus! You have about 18 steps in 3 phases to do it to get it out of the thrid party's system adn into ours. ALSO; if you CHANGE yhour reservation, want to extend it, or add to it, or wnat a reciept for your stay, YOU MUST go through The third party again!!!! WE WON'T {CAn'T} do it...you have to HOPE we have rooms availabler if you wnat to esxtend your stay, adn you might havet o change rooms to add nights through 3rd party billing! BEST ADVICE; book DIRECTLY with or through the hotel's reservations booking site{s}! That goes for ANY htoel you wish to stay at. I cna't tell you the name of my hotel, verboten! I cna't "advertise it".

WEll, on the subject of OATMEAL: I like CHOCLATE OATMEAL!!! A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, Quaker instnat oatmeal had a chocolate flavor, but didn't make it long, and our area USED to be a "test market" area, we'd get products to try that no one elsewere got, it was discontinued, which is odd as it sold like HOTCAKES, {lol}! SO: if you wnat to try it: add 3 hershey's mini choco bars to your morning regular Quaker Old Fashioned Oats {I prefer has more "nutrional value" than the rolled "Quick oats", and only take 120 seconds to mirical wave} oatmeal, and sugar if you desire {or in my diabetic case, the sugar free choco bars and Stevia} adn microwave as usual. I AGREE,STEVEN: oatmeal should be thick adn "concrete-likey" NOT Thinly veiled "gruel" as noted!!!!!!!!!

Well, i have to call SS, so I'd best get to my {Voila!} choclate oatameal for breaking my fast! Dinner

MR B: sent you a PM!

Morning all

Another hot day ! Yuck - do not like summer and its humidity.

Garry - Glad you made it back safe !

Ulrich - Nice ! Glad you got a new computer !

JaBear - LOL ! Manly stuff only ! I bet John Wayne didnt eat sweet porridge or Oatmeal ! He probably ate Steak and eggs for breakfast with hot sauce !

Ed - Your mom fed you Purina dog food ? 40 chickens ! Thats not a killing that is a slaughter, time to get a gun or call animal control.

Dave - Hear hear - I agree NO PORRIDGE EITHER !

ken - That is a good thing changing teh way you eat. If it were not for MOH changing my eating habits I probably wouldnt be here !

Howmus 0 I didnt know that. Our division meets on a prescribed date 4 times a year. I thought was set by the NMRA. I do not see why they couldnt meet at other times. We follow the script you all follow, clinics/s[pecial speakers, model judging, layout visits.

Angel - That guy is lucky !!! He should be dead.

ROR - Oh It would seem to me that a sales person would need to be both. Good luck with the new prospect.

Herrinchoker - How did your sister like the DR Trimmer ? Wow five miles ? One will never run out of string with that much on hand !

Henry - : ) Thanks for saving money for me ! Those DR are expensive.

Ulrich - Nice ! Glad you got a new computer !

Well, actually not so nice. There is a tremendous hole in the piggy bank that I don´t know how to cover and I have spent hours to get a few vital thinks up and running. One should write down account names and passwords somewhere, shouldn´t one? Whistling

Slowly, real slowly I am getting a handle on that computer thing. It will still take some time to get fully functional again, but I will call it quits for the day and just relax.

Ulrich´s Train Movie Theater will be open to the paying public from tomorrow onwards!

Good Evening Diners,

Ulrich, I hear you on the new computer. The setup is quite the hassle. I got my last computer a year ago and hope I will not need another one for a long time.

Ed/GMPullman, that's awful to hear about your chickens. Possums were horrible towards my family's chickens growing up. A hav-a-hart trap helped.

On the home front. My dad and I drove down to North Carolina, Sunday to help his brother and sisters clean out my late granddad's home. It took most of the day to load furniture and I didn't get back home until after 1am.

On the hobby front...

BLI mailed the new tether for my T1 yesterday, and here's hoping I can finally get this locomotive going.

While out of town I went through the house I grew up in, and found some old MR materials I'd forgotten about, including some old trucks, and many neat parts that'll be good for junk yards, detailing scenes etc.

I'm looking at my spare room and thinking about a shelf layout of some kind. Thinking I will start this autumn when the weather gets cold, depending on the usual, time, finances, resources at hand etc., but I'd like to start on some kind of layout as I've wanted one for many years now.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, Ed, Jan and I will have a Beer please.

Felt worse today than in sometime. I am eating less to lower my A1C. Have no idea what my blood surgar was because of my wife!

SoapBox It is all about her! She laid claim to My Blood Glucose Montior sent to me by the VA. She wanted to keep it so she can test to see if she has low blood surgar. Her A1C has been fine. Mine on the other is out of control. Why, because I cannot test it! If I see the numbers I have a goal, with no numbers what the heck. Just got in a good fight with her and have laied claim to My Blood Glucose Montior so I stand a chances of feeling good again.

Train Front With me not doing any yard work I did some RIP work done. Oiled the Mighty CB&Q F7C but must have missed the needed points. Sounds like gears more than bearings. Will try cracking the trucks and lube them up. Did clear the Bessemer SD 7 that Ed sent. When using Decoder Pro I saw it had a DH121 decoder in it. The wrost Digitrax decoder they ever made! It now has a DH 123 in it and is very happy again! Big Smile

Did somebody say prime rib????? I'm in! It has been awhile since my last visit and I have been living on jailhouse food,Dinner however, Sheriff Otte has let me out on parole. I will try to behave myself from now on. Nine months was too long and the gruel was getting old, especially when I looked in and saw what the diner was serving.Laugh

I sure got a lot done on the layout being under house arrest. Got my turntable in and running, runs like a Swiss watch, had no issues at all getting it installed and it was easy to operate to boot.

I have kept in touch with a few from the forum through E-Mail and finally got around (after nine months) to asking Steve why I was banned. He told me and I agreed to behave.

MMMMMMDOGGY my prime rib is here and it comes with Yorkshire pudding. A bottle of Cabernet, please. That prison still just didn't do anything for my taste buds.

Well enough of being a layabout, it's time to head out on the Deere and get the grass cut for the weekend influx of visitors.

Take care all

Prime Rib served in the Diner?  Wow, I'll have a slice of medium-rare please with Yorkshire pudding of course, the way Mum and my Grandma made it too, not that hard, puffed stuff you get in most restaurants.

Seems as if it was a computer day for some of us. I finally installed new security software in our old laptop that is running on Vista. It seems to work just fine. I put in Avast after reading about what would work with Vista.

Not a lot new going on here. We will start some garden work this weekend as it is a long weekend here( Victoria Day) and so we like to stay home to avoid the crowds. It has been too cool to do much outide yet with a frost warning again tonight but the weekend promises to bring some warmer weather.

Nothing happening on the RR front. Haven't even run trains for several weeks.

Nice to see that Brent has been let out of jail.

Have really nice evening,

CN Charlie

Brent you better tell me what you did.  i think I get close to the edge at times.

Started some tomatos and cucumbers in peat pots, in no time at all they were 6" tall and 1mm in diameter so I have started again.

My 18 year old deck is starting to show rot at the rails.  My neighbor has a deck and fence business and he came by today.  He said he repairs/builds for the neighbors at the cost of materials.  Unbelievable!

As far as I know, I never ate oatmeal.  Never.  i grew up on Frosted Flakes, which for the International Crowd in sugar coated corn flakes.  It will probably be partly responsible for my type 2 diabetes.  On weekends we would have eggs or waffles or pancakes.  Sometimes something we called Mishmosh, which was said to be an invention of my Grandfather" soft boiled eggs, cottege cheese and bacon.  The combination of cold and hot, soft and crunch makes it really good.  If you don't like it you can always add more bacon.

My resin car spent a couple hours in the sonic cleaner with 90% alcohol.  The alcohol got in a seam that held the label that identifies the buttons.  It didn't destroy the label, but I can't use alcohol anymore unless I figure out what will seal the seam and not dissolve.

Good evening !

I thought the prime rib would get you chow hounds into the Diner !  Including Yorkshire pudding is a good idea Brent and Charlie.

Brent ... It is good to see you here. Nice of Steven to work with you and get everything resolved. Thanks to you too Brent for making the effort to be reinstated because I recall you have much to contribute to the forum.

Ed ... I read your post about the foxes and the chickens/ducks. Greedy foxes. We have neighbors with chickens and foxes are a problem with them too. They have a big outside dog to protect the barn.

Alvie .... We use Hav-A-Hart brand traps to get rid of the chipmunks. The critters are unharmed but just moved to another location.

Hey eeryone- been an interesting week.

First, moving has been more of a chore than I could imagine.  Thankfully I still had all my trains stored at the club, so that was one less thing I have to worry about.  But moving all my hardbacks- MY BACK!!!  But, at least I have a place, with space to build a small switching layout- plus I found some old particle board I can use for the base of the layout.  Moving a Marshal amp-not fun.  Moving a whole bunch of heavy stuff in 90 degree temps isn't fun either lol.

I was asked to do a presentation on the history of the Pittsburgh and West Virginia railway Company for my local historical society next week, so between moving stuff and work, I've been doing my finishing touches on that.

I noticed my iPad was starting to act weird, but didn't think anything of it.  Well, yesterday, the screen started peeling away from the rear.  I took it to my closest Apple store-South Hills- and turns out my battery has swelled.  But, since it was an iPad2 and new enough, they will give me a replacement one for free, in exchange for the swelled battery one.  3-5 days until it comes in.

Also today- On my way to said south hills apple store- I passed a jumper's landing spot.  They jumped off the Joe Montana Bridges, which are over 200ft off the ground.  It must have just happened when I passed, because the police cars were already on the scene, as well as an ambulance..but nothing else was there.  After I passed the scene, I saw like FOUR more units (EMT,rescue service, etc) heading for the scene.  Bad news there.   Very bad news indeed, and really dampened my day, getting a reminder of how fragile life is, and how some people just need help but can't get it for some reason, and see no way out but that way.  Thoughts for his family.

Well, I work all weekend most likely, so I'll check in again sporadically.  Hope everyone has a good evening.
