Rivarossi Big Boy Assistance?
Posted by Mantua Man on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 11:47 AM

Hello! I've aqquired a vintage 1969 Rivarossi 4-8-8-4 'Big Boy' locomotive. When I first recieved it I did a quick matinance job, and later sent it to a friend to be serviced. All he found was a warped drive train and a faulty O-ring that were both replaced. The cab motor was also replaced with a factory motor. Even after this the locomotive runs poorly on DC and i'm wanting to convert it to DCC. I've scanned over a lot of sites and they mostly say a Canon DN-22 Motor or a Faulhaber motor as a replacement. I went with the DN-22 but have not installed it yet. I'm wanting to first off know if I choose the right motor, and second off have some specifics on remotoring my locomotive as I am inexperienced, but well with the schematics of the locomotive. Any advice would help such as wieght modifications, gear ratios, housing modifications, anything. I will try to post pictures as I get information and go along with the remotor.

Thanks much!

Best of luck

Thanks! I've looked over this post a few times and they have some good motor reccomendations but little to no information of how they installed them. I will look into some of those CD motors as they say their good. I will also see if I can find any information regarding the instalation of them.
